Kind of what another Fred (Thompson) said about this. Talked about how if you want to do the midlife crisis thing, do it in private life rather than public, and “on your own time and on your own dime.” Acknowledged that neither he nor anyone else has lived a flawless life, but this kind of mess hurts everyone- you, your family, and the causes you advocate.
I dunno. I feel kind of sorry for Elizabeth Edwards myself. I don’t like her politics or her husband, but she has had to face a lot of tragedy in her life. Plus, she is married to John Edwards.
The truth is love can make people stupid. Happens every day.
Rush is right about Mark Sanford, there’s some sort of psychology issue there where he wanted to be caught. He couldn’t possibly have thought he wouldn’t be.

She milked it and keeps milking it. She’s as bad as Hillary with a smile to cover her cynicism up.
Wish we had room on the boat for ya’ll but we do noooot”
Hahahaha! That woman has class. Didn’t get all bent out of shape like they wanted her to. They tried, they tried to get her to be upset for the camera. But she didn’t bite.
Actually when I said she had a tragic life I was thinking about her dead child and her cancer. Just because I don’t like the woman’s politics, does not mean I think she is without human feelings. Dead children are not something I would wish on my worse enemy.

Never even went there. I was talking more about the affair. You’d have to agree that she’s milking this situation.
Well, I went there when I said I had sympathy for her. I have no idea if she is milking the situation or not. I can not read her mind. I think the way people jump on this kind of thing is sort of tacky myself.
My reaction I guess is the same as everyone else’s: “Wow” and “She’s holding up well.” Good for her!
Though I will say if she’s concerned about her marriage only for the sake of the kids and the institution itself, the marriage is over. I don’t fault her one bit, but she should face up to the fact that they can’t continue like this. And if Mark can’t handle that fact, too bad for him — he already made his choice.

Look, she comes out with a book, does the Oprah interview, yada, yada, and never comes across like Sanford did. My skepticism is bouncing off the roof. Hey, she (and Hillary and Spitzer’s wife) is free to be cynical, but that doesn’t mean that they should be knighted for “sticking with their man,” when there were very clear motives…
I’ll say, but what the hell is wrong with the men?
Lookin for a few good men and all I cane see is eunichs( most of them), perverts (Sanfords, Craigs), and Dem lovers, (McCain, Graham).
Where’s the real men with the brass to call a spade a spade and B.S., Bull Shi.
We need someone to fight, fight, fight and I ain’t a talkin about McCain hes’ more over than Sanford in my book!
Thompson good, Romney kinda quite, Rudy disappeared, Huckabee Creepy, Joe the Plumber maybe thats’ the guy!
Actually, I am serious. She worked on Wall St., she managed her husband’s political campaigns, almost made him a White House contender. She has political smarts n political talent and as this clip shows, she has both character n charisma. If she’s opposed to amnesty that’d make her better than Grahamnesty instantly. Primary Lindsey and send her to the senate instead.
Lol Glenn, reading the Sanford love letters with “You Sexy Thing” playing in the background.
V15J on June 25, 2009 at 10:50 PM
You know I saw Glenn do that and didn’t like it. I thought it was classless when Olbermann did and even more classless for Glenn to do it, only because he has standards and Olbermann does not. There are kids involved and I just think making those e-mails public is right nor mocking them where his wife and kids can be exposed to it.

promachus on June 25, 2009 at 10:59 PM
Well, if I lived in that state, I’d seriously consider voting for her.
I don’t remember the Edwards woman saying she wanted to be knighted. So she wrote a book. Who cares?
Many years ago when I was home nursing my sick father my husband had a fling. The woman got pregnant. I could not have children. Imagine what it was like to not only find out your husband was unfaithful, but to find out the other woman was having the child you could not have.
So, I acted like I did not care. I did not give any of the gossiping, snickering, nosey, sanctimonious and oh so well meaning people any reason to feel sorry for me. I am sure that a lot of them thought I was cold about it, or unfeeling, but what was going on inside me was none of their business.
So I don’t judge in these kinds of situation, because there is a lot you never know.
After reading the emails in The State, Jenny realized this was nothing more than puppy love that can’t hold a candle to a 20 year mostly stable marriage. (Having the mistress on another continent is also a plus) Gov. Sanford will come to realize that too and maybe this family can mend.
The women of the party are going to have to take over. The men have proven themselves incapable of practicing what they preach. So we should start elevating the smart and visionary women in the pary.
Primary Lindsey and send her to the senate instead.
Dude, you all too harsh on Lindsey. Seriously, right now I can’t think of another GOP Senator who is more well-spoken than Graham. Just because he doesn’t agree with conservatives 100 percent doesn’t mean he is not doing a good job.

And I don’t mind you not judging. My point is, that she has officially been knighted a hero amongst the left… Why? I don’t know. All I know is that she didn’t handle herself like Sanford.

Come on, supposedly Obama is a great Orator… Doesn’t mean he’s doing a good job.
Why Graham would want to distance himself from classical liberal beliefs is beyond me.
If she “took him back” she would have to be a door mat.
Who would want a door mat?
Joe Bloggs on June 25, 2009 at 11:00 PM
Are you kidding me? I’ve got a feeling if she takes him back he better sleep with one eye open.
I have a feeling it would be like “if I even think you are screwing around again you will wake up tied to the bed and when I’m done with ya it will never ever work again git it dumbass?”
Maybe they have decided to support her for the same reasons that so many conservatives want to support Sanford’s wife. They think she is one of theirs and they are sorry about the problems she has faced. I don’t think that everything should always be about politics, but too often it comes down to that.
And I don’t mind you not judging. My point is, that she has officially been knighted a hero amongst the left… Why? I don’t know. All I know is that she didn’t handle herself like Sanford.
Sanford is a breath of fresh air.
Upstater85 on June 25, 2009 at 11:05 PM
I always thought Elizabeth Edwards was fake. She is no more than an enabler, willing to keep her mouth shut so long as it furthered her husband’s political career which in turn would elevate her status. No different than Hillary & Bill. Buy on get one free.
I don’t know Graham was all over Obama about the stimulus spending and Iran. He might not always be exactly what you want, but there are times when he really does rise to the occasion.
Hell hath no fury….
TN Mom on June 25, 2009 at 11:06 PM
Don’t I know it. I once commented negatively on my wife’s outfit, next thing I know she is rummaging around in the gun safe downstairs and telling me I will have a one minute headstart. The paramedics were super, they got my heart started again and patched the hole.
Great clip, this woman is very special to be able to keep her dignity in such a marvelous way. She is right, his career is HIS problem right now, not hers. Her priorities are correct, & firmly in place. You go girl!
I agree. Childish and asinine of Beck to do that. Why further embarrass Jenny Sanford and her children? Beck has some kind of enjoyment out of this. Sick.
I read Alec Baldwin on HuffPo say leave Sanford and his family alone. When Alec Baldwin has more class than you Glenn Beck, that’s pathetic.
Maybe they have decided to support her for the same reasons that so many conservatives want to support Sanford’s wife. They think she is one of theirs and they are sorry about the problems she has faced. I don’t think that everything should always be about politics, but too often it comes down to that.
Terrye on June 25, 2009 at 11:08 PM
Perhaps, but you have to give Mrs. Sanford credit for not being so political about it. Just look at the images of Vitter and wife announcing his affair… Stick by your man doesn’t mean stick by your man’s career.
I don’t know Graham was all over Obama about the stimulus spending and Iran. He might not always be exactly what you want, but there are times when he really does rise to the occasion.
Terrye on June 25, 2009 at 11:10 PM
I can’t admire Joe Lieberman for certain things. This doesn’t mean I’m a fan or would vote for him.
Not a doormat, a strong woman who has a long history and children with a man she loves, but who has hurt them.
She’s apparently been very clear- told him to leave, not to contact the kids, and if he wants to reconcile she will. Sounds like she’s putting the cards on the table and calling his bluff. “Do you want her, or us? You’re not getting both, so choose wisely.”

Sanford is a breath of fresh air.

She has a level of sophistication that is so fitting with her beauty.

Perhaps, but you have to give Mrs. Sanford credit for not being so political about it. Just look at the images of Vitter and wife announcing his affair… Stick by your man doesn’t mean stick by your man’s career.
