Oh my: David Obey and Maxine Waters in shoving match on House floor?

posted at 9:53 pm on June 25, 2009 by Allahpundit

In an alternate universe, Obey’s a Republican and this is page-one fodder for days as proof of what violent racist misogynists all conservatives are.

What a special “Special Comment” that would have been. Alas for poor Olbermann, this is blue on blue.

The incident stemmed from Rep. Obey’s refusal to fund an earmark that Rep. Waters requested, sources told FOX…

Obey tried to walk away from Waters, but she continued to browbeat the Appropriations Committee Chairman and followed him around the House floor, according to reports. “She was in his face,” a source said.Other media reported that the altercation evolved into a “shoving match.” Those reports could not be confirmed. Ellis Brachman, a spokesman for Obey said that Waters “accosted” his boss and “made a scene.” Attempts to reach Waters for comment were unsuccessful.

More from The Hill:

“You’re out of line,” Waters shot while walking down toward the well.

“You’re out of line,” Obey shot back before turning and walking away.

But then Obey stopped, turned back toward Waters, and shouted; “I’m not going to approve that earmark!”

Obey turned away, but Waters went to go huddle with members of the Congressional Black Caucus. She could be over heard telling them; “He touched me first.”…

A Waters aide said that Obey had pushed her.

Waters is an idiot but Obey’s irascible jackassery seems to be getting worse the past few years, from an infamous tirade directed at Dennis Kucinich to now allegedly shoving women colleagues. What’s his damage?

I think that’s a show on VH1. If it isn’t, it should be.

What’s his damage?

Hopefully retirement. That f*ker has been in Congress since the 1960s! Poster boy for term limits.

If there was video, he’d be packing his bags. It would be fun to hear the libs rationalize his behavior: “it’s just a push, so what.”

Anyone know the earmark? Something to ACORN to shove a thumb in the eye of Michelle Bachman?

from The Hill:

Waters and Obey have had an ongoing dispute about an earmark for a public school employment training center in Los Angeles that was named after Waters when she was a state representative.

Obey rejected that earmark as violating policies against so-called “monuments to me.” Waters revised her request to go to the school district’s whole adult employment training program, so the district could decide whether the money would go to the school named after Waters.

Thursday was the committee markup of the spending bill that would include the earmark, and Obey let it be known that the earmark would be denied.

Liberal Dilemma

Sapwolf on June 26, 2009 at 1:05 AM

The Congressional Black Caucus is a Racist Hate Group and needs to be disbanded immediately. Earmarks are usually large enough to be considered Grand Theft. They need to go away as well. Any member of Congress that votes on any bill before they have read it needs to go away. Anyone that Legislates for Personal gain should get an old fashioned public hanging regardless of party affiliation. Lobbying should be declared a Federal Felony. I’m just so tired of all of this business.

Lets just vote all of the incumbents out in 2010 and start over.

old trooper2 on June 26, 2009 at 1:57 AM

She huddled with members of the black caucus is the most chilling phrase in that story. Apparently Jim Crowe is alive and well only in Congress he’s black.

I realize that is the point of this story but how long do we have to tolerate racism in this country. I am so sick of hearing about how nothing has changed in this country. Things have changed … for the worst.

But if we have to have caucuses, let’s at least give them good names…

Spouse Cheater’s Caucus
We don’t pay taxes Caucus
We need $1 Trillion for our half-baked plan Caucus

We hate white men (and some white women, too) Caucus

Well, you get the idea…

Blame it on the crazy lady

Witnesses, speaking on condition of anonymity, said it appeared that Waters pushed or shoved Obey.

The two veteran Democrats — each pugnacious and 71 years old — began shouting, with the L.A.-area congresswoman following Obey around the chamber, reportedly suggesting he channel the vocational money through a local school district.

At some point, they collided, witnesses say, with one Obey ally claiming the lean Waters “tried to shove” the stout Obey.

William Amos on June 26, 2009 at 6:15 AM

Democrat Congressional decorum:

(cue warbling harmonica intro)

Awnt Estha/ Mad Maxine :
You ain’t nothin’ but a fish-eyed fool

Fred Sanford / Obey:
How would you like one across yo lip?

Awnt Estha / Mad Maxine : Watch it sucka!

Fred Sanford / Obey: I can’t watch nothing.

Awnt Estha / Mad Maxine: And why not?

Fred Sanford / Obey: You too ugly.

(cue warbling harmonica outro)

viking01 on June 26, 2009 at 6:40 AM

There are more than a few choice Yiddish words to describe the character of Maxine Waters but decorum prohibits me from using them. I’d also be tagged as a racist– but I would be 110% accurate.

She is an absolutely abhorrent human being and an utter disgrace to Congress. No mean feat since that institution is an utter disgrace all by itself.

Feh!

J.J. Sefton on June 26, 2009 at 6:57 AM

There was a time when duelling was not unknown to the House… the country has been going downhill ever since that was taken off the table. You learned civility very quickly in those days. Now we are too civilized to control our passions.

This almost starting to sound like a ‘he touched me!’ moment between 5-year old siblings. Mama Nana wanted children to be at the top of things in the House, so this is what we get from that agenda.

Maxine Waters is the most arrogant, self serving person I have ever been in contact with.
She would show up at an annual pancake breakfast (a big deal every year with all the leaders in L.A. attending) in South Central L.A. Her and Mayor Bradley…Mayor Bradley a gentleman, gracious very warm (although hated his politics), Waters mean arrogant, barking orders, cutting in line, just absolutely obnoxious…a stereotype of the arrogant, pushy, uneducated black women with a chip on their shoulder.
She reeked hate and disgust…but her hate was aimed at anything white, and her supporters love her, adore her, hateful spiteful people.
