Obamateurism of the Day
posted at 8:05 am on June 25, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Bring back TOTUS! President Obama proved that he can commit an Obamateurism regardless of whether he uses the TelePrompter or not during his latest press conference. In pushing for adoption of his “clean energy” policies, Obama called carbon a “contaminant” in his opening statement:
These incentives will finally make clean energy the profitable kind of energy. And that will lead to the development of new technologies that lead to new industries that could create millions of new jobs in America — jobs that can’t be shipped overseas.
At a time of great fiscal challenges, this legislation is paid for by the polluters who currently emit the dangerous carbon emissions that contaminate the water we drink and pollute the air that we breathe. It also provides assistance to businesses and communities as they make the gradual transition to clean energy technologies.
The argument — such as it is — is that carbon emissions warm the Earth, not “contaminate the water we drink and pollute the air we breathe”. People have been breathing carbon since at least a little while before Obama was born … like since the dawn of man. It’s lethal, of course — it’ll kill you in 150 years, if you don’t stop breathing before then.
Fortunately, Obama has a plan to keep you from breathing long before that, but we’ll talk about ObamaCare later. (thanks to Scott and Lorellico for the tip)

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
Illustrations by Chris Muir of Day by Day. Be sure to read the adventures of Sam, Zed, Damon, and Jan every day!

That darn CO2, so dangerous to our lives at 0.004% of the atmosphere.

Ed, the argument is, that since CO2 is a pollutant and we exhale CO2, each one of us needs to be taxed according to the level of pollution that we produce.

It’s obvious that, despite Maureen Dowd’s gushing of Bam’s “Spock-like coolness,” that Obama is no Trekkie. If he was he’d know that he too is just another Carbon-based Life Form on a Class-M planet.

That pesky CO2…
But, even more, Obama seems to be missing the bigger picture….the evident dangers…and with established facts, not specious conjecture or feelings…or AlGore,
Hydrogen Dioxide is killing our children. Hydrogen Dioxide is the second-leading cause of death among children under the age of 15.
Children under five and adolescents between the ages of 15-24 have the highest hydrogen dioxide related death rates.
An estimated 5,000 children ages 14 and under are hospitalized due to Hydrogen Dioxide related incidents each year; 15 percent die in the hospital and as many as 20 percent suffer severe, permanent neurological disability.
The U.S. Government has known about the dangers of hydrogen dioxide for many years. However lawmakers refuse to address this desperate situation. Hydrogen Dioxide needs to be outlawed now.
So, Mr. President…what say you?

The amateur part is saying that government incentives make something profitable.
This is like saying that electric and hydrogen cars don’t cause pollution.
Its all about if you include the entire big picture in your evaluation (your tax $, and the power source for the batteries or making the H2), or only the part you wish to make look good (the tax-enabled profit possible or the lack or pollution at the tailpipe).

On the surface, yes. But it emphasizes two insidious M.O.’s of this administration and enviro-libs in general:
1. “global warming” is more scare tactic than science.
2. Obama’s speechwriters are a bunch of twenty-something morons who have been trained to regurgitate Dem talking points and wouldn’t know research if it bit them on the nose.

It’s obvious that Obama and all of his advisors skipped science classes. So did most of the Congress and the electorate. OOOOOOppps, I fogot about that great science wizard, Al Gore. Trying to paint “carbon” as some kind of toxic contaminant is part of the strategy to pass cap and trade, IMO. This isn’t the first time I’ve heard someone talking about the need to reduce emissions refer to carbon as if it were a pollutant. It’s usually more subtle than Obama was this time, but it’s definitely going on.

But all life on earth is built upon carbon…so what is he proposing?
Are the Obamateurs really space invaders trying to replace earth’s carbon life with silicon life forms?
landlines on June 25, 2009 at 9:51 AM
Translation: “Since people are carbon based life forms, this tax will naturally be passed on to every single human being in this country for everything they do.
It is people that pollute the water we drink and air we breathe. By “we” I mean all of us anointed rulers who are sick and tired of putting up with our lessers doing whatever they want with “their” lives. This chaotic mess must be controlled.
This is our world and you just live in it. You must pay rent to us. Any attempt to climb the ladder toward our perch will cost you dearly.”

…and, since nobody on earth controls the sun, it doesn’t make any difference how many countries screw up their economies in a futile attempt to affect the climate.
Man cannot individually or collectively affect climate, and his attempts to do so are Quixotic, puny, and totally insignificant in the grand galactic scheme of things. Simultaneous explosion of all the nuclear bombs ever made would not matter: the sun swamps such a puny display of power by many orders of magnitude in a fraction of every second.
Washington should sit back and relax and enjoy climate changes. They should think of climate change as just a huge galactic change of seasons….which it is.
Climate will change: our job is to ADAPT.

No. Your lungs operate on the basis of a feedback loop containing C02 sensors. No CO2, no breathing. It’s as simple as that. To understand, try holding your breath.
So the real question is how to genetically engineer human beings who don’t produce CO2? Dead fetuses, anyone?
unclesmrgol on June 25, 2009 at 12:49 PM
If CO2 is banned as a pollutant, can I breathe on my plants, trees and grass in order to keep them alive? Will I have to wear a Carbon Meter/Cash Register on my back?
What about sports and sex? All that heavy breathing can’t be good for the environment. And don’t even get me started on the farting problem. Banning Mexican food would be a good start.
It’s probably best if we all just sit at home in the dark until The One calls us to serve Him. He’ll know what to do, right?
