Michael Jackson suffers massive heart attack, in critical condition; TMZ: Jackson dead

posted at 5:25 pm on June 25, 2009 by Allahpundit

He wasn’t breathing when the paramedics got there and he’s in “really bad shape” in the hospital according to a family member. Apart from feeling instinctive human sympathy for his suffering, I’m not sure how to react. He’s super famous — yet mostly famous at this point for being a walking freak show. He’s had a tough life psychologically — but might very well be a child molester. In a sense this is huge news, yet in another sense I’m not sure why anyone would much care these days. I’ve completely lost my news bearings!

Stand by for (hopefully happy) updates.

Update: A sentiment we can all hopefully agree upon: “Thriller” was a simply dynamite album.

Update: RIP.

Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon and paramedics were unable to revive him. We’re told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back.

Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince “Blanket” Michael Jackson II.

Let the overdose speculation begin.

Update: Writes Jim Treacher of Jacko’s and Farrah Fawcett’s demise, “How many more icons of my youth can we lose in one day? Stay strong, Hasselhoff. Stay strong.”

Update: As of 6:10 ET, TMZ’s still the one and only news outlet I know that’s reporting Jackson died. Then again, they were also the first to report that he’d had a heart attack so their sources presumably are solid. Even so, the LA Times claims Jackson’s in a coma. If TMZ jumped the gun, it’ll be a journalistic blunder for the ages.

Update: OK magazine is also reporting he died. Interesting how the celebrity gossip sites are way ahead of the legit news organizations.

Update: Sad confirmation from the LA Times that he is indeed dead. What a scoop by TMZ.

Update: Still the best video ever, but then a Romero fan would say that. Click the image to watch.

Update: Needless to say, this is going to be one interesting autopsy.

Update: I wonder which multimillionaire talking-head cable news anchor will be the first to complain that they have to cover this story, as if it’s beneath them.

I still think this will be drug overdose.

I am simply stunned that there are two people here who seem to be openly advocating sleeping with children. What the hell is wrong with the world?. Are there no longer any absolutes at all?

church on June 25, 2009 at 8:31 PM

I find nothing wrong with having a family bed. I referred to an adopted child (my own) and to a close friend’s child during a stressful situation. I was not advocating sexual activity, merely familial bonding (and in the latter case, the girl was terrified, and I barely woke up). Maybe it’s because I’m a mom, but I no longer think of sex when thinking of being in bed.

Shame on Fox News channel. Shep Smith and Uri Gellar and some Rona Barrett woman and insisting this will be a Princess Diana funeral. And now Geraldo Rivera!!! Did serious news die?

For those tired of Fox, there is a NCIS marathon on USA. Michael Jackson and Donny Osmond are both my age. One lived a train wreck of a life, beset by personal demons and a lot of emotional issues, and has died today. The other is a grandfather, having had a successful career of his own, and is headlining Las Vegas with his sister. What was the difference?
And I’m fixin’ (Southern expression) to get hitched on July 11th, starting a new chapter in my life. I know Who made the difference in my life. I’m sorry Michael’s ended up the way it did.

Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett brought so much joy and excitement to millions (if not billions) of us around the world for many years. I’ll always remember them for Thriller and Charlie’s Angels. Two of my all time favorite entertainers.

My sympathies to their families.

May Michael and Farrah both rest in peace at last.

Happens all the time because I’m logical and not emotional, I guess. LOL
But, Thank you. The responses to me are absolutely absurd.
Regardless of what they think of MJ.
Peace.

I’m not bothered because I was simply relaying a story of my niece and nephew, yes, SLEEPING in the bed with me…They live hours away and when they are here, they beg their aunt to sleep with me. We did so. For a few nights..until I got so bugged I couldn’t take in anymore, but for these people to assume that I’m wacked out like that is just absurd.
But! That’s the internet! Wackies everywhere!
And to JohnG…yeah, I thought of that, ‘projection’ line, but I figured I’d keep my mouth shut. These people are nuts. It’s like arguing with a drunk person. No rational. No concern. Just rants. Why bother?
I’ve no need to apologize for who I am or what I do.

Maybe the fact that you are on a fairly well read blog describing the ‘do’s and don’ts’ of sleeping with kids?

HELLO???

BigWyo on June 25, 2009 at 8:35 PM

In a way, so are you. You’re advocating, apparently, that children (not even one’s own, perhaps) should never be in the same bed as an adult. That’s a do/don’t of sleeping with kids, on a fairly read blog. I simply made an observation that blood alone does not make family, and that there might occasionally be a circumstance where things might not be so black and white. Oh, and defended bridgetown’s claim of being a woman.

OK, not to get too graphic here, but there are certain physical uhhmmm things that go on with men in the mornings that non-children should not risk being exposed to (even children is weird)… It is better to take precautions that this doesn’t happen. As to bridgetown’s posts, they were totally illogical… jumping between MJ and herself and then claiming (without justification) that she slept with non-related children…

That said, I would not feel comfortable with my children sleeping with anyone else aside from their parents (at a young age) unless the situation was quite drastic.

Thank you. I have to admit i’m a little shocked at so many people here who automatically equate an adult sleeping in the same bed with a younger family member as pedophilia. Did none of these people ever crawl into bed with their parents when they were kids?

I think it says a lot about how we came to the state of society today where men are scared to death to be around a child that’s not theirs even if it’s in public and broad daylight for fear of being accused of being a molestor.

When I first heard the news, I went to youtube and watched the Smooth Criminal video (before of course tuning into my daily dose of the Grateful Dead).

I think Smooth Criminal was his best work.

JohnGalt23 on June 25, 2009 at 8:46 PM

So let me get this straight. Because we know that Michael slept with children, he must have had sex with them. Um, my dad used to sleep with me at times, and there was nothing in that. At one time in my life (I guess I was burned out) at parties I would hang out with the kids instead of the adults talking about business. (I had no kids of my own) Kids live in the present moment, are spontaneous, and don’t doublethink.

Michael did not have a childhood like most of us. He had to be a breadwinner at a very young age. He might have been molesting kids, I don’t know. But those of you that are sure that he was, well, I think that says more about YOU than it does about Michael…

I followed each of those accusations as they happened, and there was more evidence that others wanted Michael’s money more than Michael was actually guilty of anything that the bookwriters and media horse (sp?) weren’t trying to create for their own profit.

Danzo on June 25, 2009 at 8:46 PM

Upstater85 on June 25, 2009 at 8:41 PM

You know, we’ve never had that problem, but I’ll admit – our circumstances are unique (my husband is military, and when he’s actually around, he gets up waaay before the rest of us). But I’ve found with young kids, if you don’t bring attention to it, they tend to not notice it.

And yeah, I wouldn’t invite kids into my bed that weren’t related to me – I spend most of my time trying to keep my own out of bed so I can sleep!

This thread turned really weird, and I’m starting to regret my second entrance. Upside – my daughter just lost her first tooth. :)

Well, actually, Anna did mention another child, but then she did go on to explain that it was a drastic situation. That’s plausible, but as I said, this should be handled with great discernment. Fortunately my brother doesn’t read this blog (I think). When we were quite young, we had to stay with good friends while my parents went on vacation. He did his normal “run to mom and dad’s bed” to find that mom and dad weren’t actually there (new couple). He didn’t realize this actually. They were gracious enough to “accommodate” him, none-the-less, I’m sure they were more than careful to ensure that no uncomfortable situations arose … and they encouraged him to sleep in his bed the next night.

What Michael Jackson did, is not. There is a big difference.

Esthier on June 25, 2009 at 8:44 PM

Call me Dr. Quack, but Michael always looked anorexic to me. I just doubt he was into drugs. I just think he was a little too obsessive about his food and too compulsive about germs and health to put dangerous drugs into his system.

Why do you compare a parent sleeping with their child to a celebrity sleeping with non family member children. That is apples and oranges.

As a parent, if I found out that my kids were sleeping with an adult during a sleepover, you are damn straight I would be pissed and the cops would be called. That is if I did not go over and beat the crap out of the person first. Then again, I always wondered what the hell was going through the parents minds, allowing them to sleep over at Jackson’s place.

Hey, that’s fine with me. People here just seem more volatile than on the Iran threads.

That’s plausible, but as I said, this should be handled with great discernment.

We agree there.

She could simply be trying to get people here to say something that will end up on O’Reilly…

Upstater85 on June 25, 2009 at 8:49 PM

Haha. You never know.

Esthier on June 25, 2009 at 8:55 PM

You know, we’ve never had that problem, but I’ll admit – our circumstances are unique (my husband is military, and when he’s actually around, he gets up waaay before the rest of us). But I’ve found with young kids, if you don’t bring attention to it, they tend to not notice it.

And yeah, I wouldn’t invite kids into my bed that weren’t related to me – I spend most of my time trying to keep my own out of bed so I can sleep!

This thread turned really weird, and I’m starting to regret my second entrance. Upside – my daughter just lost her first tooth. :)

Anna on June 25, 2009 at 8:46 PM

Yeah… it has turned weird. Perhaps we should have these conversations more often, but they aren’t very comfortable.

ooh don’t forget to leave a nickel (or I guess a dollar or ten nowadays) and a little note with some sparkles on it.

Miss Molly on June 25, 2009 at 8:53 PM

A nickel? No self respecting capitalist would settle for less than a five spot for a tooth, ten for a molar. Oh, and the glitter is a grand idea!

HornetSting on June 25, 2009 at 8:55 PM

The foolish are trapped by karma, while the wise are liberated through karma. Death is not a liberation in this case, but perhaps the trap of the fool. I am not certain if he committed the horrendous crimes of which he was accused, but where there is smoke, there usually is fire. If he did leave victims behind, perhaps now they can find some peace.

I still think this will be drug overdose.

Thunderstorm129 on June 25, 2009 at 8:35 PM

Does it really matter? Dead is dead and it isn’t like Michael Jackson weighed in one way or the other.

highhopes on June 25, 2009 at 8:57 PM

What a shame that he died as a muslim.

MaximusConfessor on June 25, 2009 at 8:57 PM

Blog commenters, being anonymous, can say whatever the hell they want, Blake. And of course, leave it to you to take a simple disagreement with no malice involved, one I had with another poster who had no problem simply disagreeing, to turn it into another slight against you.

Esthier on June 25, 2009 at 8:22 PM

Blog commenters are not anoymous, you idiot. You’re like Pavlov’s dog. I post and you try to challenge me. You are revealed to be a fool and then you whine. Piss off.

This is sad. All that money and he never seemed happy. I can remember when he was a cute little kid. A very talented little kid too.

Well, if I’m going to see nothing but MJ coverage for the next week, I might as well know what actually killed the man.

Thunderstorm129 on June 25, 2009 at 8:59 PM

Oh lord…now it’s Geraldo’s turn.

Thunderstorm129 on June 25, 2009 at 8:59 PM

I was the one trying not to get “graphic” ;)

Upstater85 on June 25, 2009 at 8:52 PM

Were you? :)

Is it criminal of me to say I liked the Alien Ant Farm cover of Smooth Criminal better than Jackson’s?

Emily M. on June 25, 2009 at 8:52 PM

I did too.

Anna on June 25, 2009 at 8:53 PM

I’ll third that, but then I was too young to know much about MJ when his best songs came out. To me, at that time, he was the guy who stared in a scary 3D movie, and the guy in the video game.

ET has a Pic of Jackson as they tried to save his life

TheBigOldDog on June 25, 2009 at 8:54 PM

Sorry but this crap is wrong and shame on you for broadcasting it. Death should come with some dignity no matter who you are or what you have done. Internet pics shouldn’t be part of the equation.

I meant to start….The discussion of sexual abuse of children…but you got the idea. It is the worst transgression against a child. I have no love for MJ, didn’t know him and this over dramafied hommage to this man is sick and sad. Just like our society is. Sick and sad.

HornetSting on June 25, 2009 at 9:04 PM

A sad day for MJ’s family and friends.

HornetSting on June 25, 2009 at 9:05 PM

The good Lord knows you had very little of it throughout your life.

SilverStar830 on June 25, 2009 at 8:42 PM

fpenza on June 25, 2009 at 9:05 PM

Well, I’m off for a bit to put my kids to bed – in their own beds (knock on wood). And then, I’m going to bang my head on the wall until I get Billie Jean off of continuous reply in my mind. Ugh.

Oh, and to scrounge up loose change for the deadbeat tooth fairy. It’s outrageous, the prices nowadays for a tooth! Have as much fun as can be expected in a Michael Jackson death thread.
