Fox News “news coverage” of Jackson’s death includes full-length music videos without news

posted at 9:00 pm on June 25, 2009 by Allahpundit

If I hadn’t seen the clip myself, I wouldn’t have believed Ace’s post. The most charitable spin I can put on this is that Shep might have needed to sneak a bathroom break. Although even then, three minutes of commercials would have been more dignified.

It’s going to be a long, long week, kids. And if you think the media coverage is maudlin and insufferable now, just wait. This is the calm before the storm.

Update: Like I said in the other thread, this is going to be one interesting autopsy.

Rumor has it the Jackson family has asked Perez Hilton and Barney Frank to give the funeral eulogy.

Sorry, what community?

Well, maybe when he was a young black man. But then he turned into an old white woman and everyone got pretty confused.

RadClown on June 26, 2009 at 8:08 AM

One other point wrt Fox’s coverage… Fox’s audience is conservative and conservatives generally don’t like “entertainers” who grab their crotch, sing highly suggestive lyrics, and might have molested children. We’re funny that way. In other words,Fox completely misjudged their loyal audience tonight with all the crap they shoved at us. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find that tonight their ratings tanked. I know I kept away for the most part and watched other programming.

Are you kidding everyone is talking about Michael Jackson. Fox is not conservative. It is fair and balanced. It certainly has conservative pundits in Oreilly and Hanitty but the rest like Beck (Libertarian) are not. AIM, Twitter, Facebook, Myspace all when down or were slow because of it. I bet the ratings were up last night. I never watch other programming. TV is horrible entertainment. I read a book or play cards.

Walter Cronkite was a big lefty and Commie sympathizer.

Amazing. America is celebrating the “king of pop” who turned into a pedophile and got away with his crime because of his antics and celebrity.

It’s really sick that nothing of importance is on TV News and instead every channel is supporting this moron.

I was sure that Shep was going to break down and cry….
Good riddance!!

build the wall on June 26, 2009 at 8:21 AM

I turned the tv off and read a book. I have NO interest in fawning idiotic television coverage of a nut-case pedophile. Talent? He wiggled and sang a video or two 40 years ago. Good riddance to bad rubbish. THIS event yesterday is FINALLY something he can’t buy his way out of.

bradley11 on June 26, 2009 at 8:22 AM

I guess I have to agree. Coverage of the death of a “man” that allegedly attacked children is a nice break from Lord High Obama destroying this country.

Jeff from WI on June 26, 2009 at 7:54 AM

I was most impressed by the South Carolina Governenr crying because he was caught with his “mistress”. The image that sets for our young people is even better than Billy Clintoon and Monica. This is what happens when a “conservative” is caught red handed. Then those who were praising him yesterday suddenly discover he is a no good louse. He is unfaithful to his wife. He has disgraced our republican party. He HAS done things as dispicable as you allege Michael Jackson did. Maybe more so since Sanford’s misdeeds are admitted facts now. Yes, there are allegations against MJ. There was a trial that acquitted him but still they are only allegations which you repeat like you know some facts the rest or us don’t. Gov Mark Sanford is a true sleeze if I ever saw one. MJ is unfortunately a freakshow and has been for years but that doesn’t convict him of what you accuse him of.

rogue780 on June 26, 2009 at 8:16 AM

What healthcare debate. The Dems have it locked up. Our healthcare is being nationalized and you will all lose your provate coverange then thev goverment will deny you treatment because you are too fat, or old, or bald, or caucasian or black, or yellow, or red. Where there is a will there is a way. That way is congress and apparently the time is now. What debate is necessary when the outcome is assured. Truthfully I watch this stuff on CSPAN and I am appaled at our republican representatives being so timid. They have already given in and are not even going to negotiate or try to firce the issue. It is too bad.

kanda on June 26, 2009 at 8:29 AM

I saw this yesterday…its all dreck. He was an entertainer, period. If Fox thinks this is what we want to see whats that say? I switched over to the military channel as CNN was doing a Jackson wall to wall as well.

Oh and folks, if you think this is insufferable, just wait till Ole Ted Kennedy shuffles off the mortal coil, we will have a week of this offal.

Meanwhile we have cap and trade coming to a vote, Iran, and healthcare etc…..

I wonder if this is some desperate attempt by Fox to reach out to a younger, and maybe more urban, audience?

A lot of people will switch to Fox assuming that the racist bastards among the Conservative class won’t care about Michael Jackson, or that we’ll be hanging him in effigy as a pedophile.

I will not tune to Fox until this garbage leaves the screen and they’ve regained their heads, if ever. Just disgusting, especially with revolution in Iran, Crap n Tax and Obamascare on the table. Michael Jackson was, by all accounts, a very nice introvert who became a twisted pervert. He went where he chose and did what he wanted with his life. He was a very great performer, talented as a dancing singer though limited to a monotonously self indulging timbre. His songs’ boring repetitions became painfully obvious when American Idol featured his work via the talented 2009 contestants. Though he sparked the stage, he directed the beautiful music of Motown towards devolution into rap. To a very large extent, what a shame to have pilfered away the essence of cultural “beauty” while simultaneously corrupting contemporary male puberty.

I would note that Farrah Fawcett the supposed Hollywood “bimbo” accomplished more for good with her life than he with his. Both sex symbol celebrities were very private individuals, yet valued human relationships from polar perspectives in the personal “giving” in life, and in death.

I had one of those great generational moments standing on line for coffee this morning: Two twenty-somethings were watching the coverage on the tube in the doughnut store when one says to the other with a straight face, “Do you think he colored his skin?”.

I remember the day Elvis died – not that I was that big a fan – but I happened to be working in a record store that day and never forgot the steady stream of people that began filing in that afternoon all through the evening to buy his records. We had to call the warehouse for a special shipment of “everything you got”.

Someone (young) asked me if Jackson was as popular as Elvis.
I think he meant as much as Elvis did to a certain generation and, believe it or not, he sold more records.

I think it’s an interesting comparison because they were both musical acts who relied on extra-musical circumstances:
Elvis’ records were influential at a time when radio was the medium for pop music. But without Ed Sullivan and the films, TV specials, would he have reached as many or been as influential? Jackson’s career began at a point when radio was still a big deal yet music on TV was becoming more and more influential until it eventually overtook radio. And Jackson for me will always personify music video when that form was new.

And let’s face it, what would strip clubs have been in the early 80′s without “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough”?

sanguine4 on June 26, 2009 at 2:17 PM

According to a report on The Times website last week, police in Great Britain are discovering that their investigations into Muslim terrorism are leading them into the depraved world of child sexual exploitation. The reverse is also occurring with child protection officers encountering people who are “preparing to carry out terrorist acts.”

…At one time, the link between the two deviant behaviours was considered so strong that security officials considered establishing an anti-terrorism project involving child welfare experts, but never followed through because Scotland Yard’s hands were too full with other terrorist investigations.

…“This is an important development,” said Labor MP Andrew Dinsmore. “We have to do more than just police work. It needs child protection, criminological and psychological work. It could become a very important weapon in the fight against terrorism.”

Even the Taliban, which executed homosexuals when it ruled Afghanistan, could not eradicate the sexploitation of boys, even in its own ranks. Among the 30 commands it issued to its fighters, Rule No. 19 forbid them from taking young boys without facial hair into their barracks. After the Taliban regime fell, a Fox news report indicated pederasty in Afghanistan returned to its previous place as an accepted social norm.

Sexual exploitation of boys in Muslim countries also has a long history. The Asia Times columnist, Spengler (an anonymous pseudonym), wrote in his column, Sufism, Sodomy and Satan, that, in the High Middle Ages, Sufism, Islam’s mystic branch, “is the only case in which a mainstream current of a major world religion preached pederasty as a path to spiritual enlightenment.”

Cheating on your wife does not compare to diddling little kids. Period.

For the sake of argument I agree with the your statement above. However you make the unproven allegation that Michael Jackson was “diddling little kids”. That is where you run afoul of all logic.

Whether he actually did it or not is irrelevant

The above is where your argument falls apart. There is no way you can expect any rational and reasonable person to agree with your blanket statement that his actual guilt or innocence is irrelevant. You are totally off base with this statement.

because one, there was more than one allegation, and two, his lifestyle certainly more than suggested that it was possible. A grown man does not let children who are not his sleep with him in a bed or give them ‘Jesus Juice’.

The above is the strawman argument that the Michael Jackson haters (and I believe you are one) cling to. In one case he was found innocent and in the other the parents were able to get a reported multimillion dollar settlement. Let me ask you this. If it were your child involved would you have settled for any amout of money? I can tell you truthfully I would not have accepted any monetary offer. I would have stuck with it until he rotted in jail or in hell. Did it happen? I can’t say. I can say it was never proven to the standard required by our laws. If you believe in our American justice system you must accept that he is innocent until proven guilty. To do anything less is to make a mockery of our values and beliefs.

Mark Sanford fell in love with another woman and handled the situation poorly. Is he a sleazebag for the way he handled it? Yes.

That is your opinion. My opinion differs slightly. I say he is a sleezebag for having the affair in the first place. How he is handling it makes him an arrogant fool. His wife’s money is gone and he will lose his political career. That is the sad truth. Love him all you want.

Does it compare to anything Jackson may or may not have done? Not by any sane persons standards.

Again aother strawman. You keep indicating that “Jackson may or may not have done” something. What is that supposed to mean? There are better ways to get your point across other than to let us know you would convict an innocent man based purely on allegations even though a jury in one case found him not guilty and the second case never went to trial.

This man not only had questionable behavior regarding children,

The above we agree on. It was questionable but it does not automatically make him guilty of child molestation as you allege.

there is also the fact that life lessons he leaves behind are you never have to pay your bills (at least 400million! in debt)

And we all know that he has hundereds of millions of dollars in collateral that secured those loans. My guess is the true value of that collateral will exceed what he owes and them some. You are only making assumtions because you hate him so. I think you are probably jealous of him too.

and that if you don’t like yourself, you can just get surgery after surgery until you look like a freak.

Maybe that is true, maybe not. What makes you his judge for what he has ever thought or did?

There comes a time when each of us has to consider where we stand on certain issues. We can be rational or emotional. I see your position as an emotional outburst. Similar to the temper tantrum of a child. Michael jackson shared that with you. I think the little 6 year old never had the chance to grow up. You can like him or dispise him. He was simply a person in the final analysis. He was a man who rose from poverty to a life of priviledge. He has done many good things that are never mentioned here. He was a huge supporter of our armed forces. He gave more to charity than almost any celebrity. All the while not seeking publicity for himself, only for his cause. Now he is dead.

You are one of a few who think you are God and can judge another human being. Well you aren’t and you can’t. If Michael Jackson did those things he is paying for it now. If he did not I am certain that he is with the lord. That is as it should be.

Now, tell me… I have the Fox News app on my Blackberry. The thing is going off every 5 minutes it seems with this garbage. And, why is the fact that MJ’s autopsy results not due for another 6-8 weeks “breaking news”?. Somebody call me when it’s over. Considering disabling the app for a while.

Given the stupidity in the amount of press regarding MJ, perhaps Fox should bid on doing the autopsy live on TV

This is only a shock to people who think the phrase “Fox News” is not a contradiction in terms—to me, it’s just different schlock for a different audience. Turn off your TV, pick up a newspaper, and skip the articles that don’t matter.

Fox is not conservative. It is fair and balanced.

I remember reading not too long ago that Rupert Murdoch doesn’t even bother defending Fox as fair and balanced anymore. However, I will defend them in their tribute to MJ…
like it or not, he was a Legend and played a major role in music history. The media did the same thing when Elvis passed. Stop your incessant whining(about everything actually) and turn off the TV if you don’t like it. *shrug*

Interesting ratings numbers out for the day MJ died, they’re listed on Drudge. Fox usually has more viewers than the other networks combined, but look at this:

CABLE NEWS RACE
JUNE 25, 2009

CNN 8PM 4,046,000
CNN 7PM 3,916,000
CNN 9PM 3,913,000
CNN 10PM 3,681,000
FOXNEWS 8PM 3,423,000
FOXNEWS 7PM 3,379,000
CNN 6PM 3,098,000
FOXNEWS 9 PM 2,872,000
FOXNEWS 6PM 2,816,000
FOXNEWS 10PM 2,266,000
MSNBC 8PM 1,916,000
MSNBC 9M 1,540,000

I was one of those people who turned it off. Bet they’re meeting in the conference rooms at Fox already, saying, “Man, did we blow it!” Broke their records for beating all of the others. Heh.

However you make the unproven allegation that Michael Jackson was “diddling little kids”. That is where you run afoul of all logic.

No, what you are arguing is that he was not convicted in a criminal court of law. That is not the same as not proven. It was proven. The only ones who continue to deny it are those who are Jackson sycophants or should not be allowed to have access to children.

If it were your child involved would you have settled for any amout of money? I can tell you truthfully I would not have accepted any monetary offer.

That’s because you are a horrible parent if indeed you do have children. One, you would allow your children to consort with a child molestor, Two, you would force your child to get up in a packed courtroom, with cameras and reporters from around the world and discuss the most intimate and embarassing and repulsive sexual details. A parent who loved his child would not make their child go through this. You, otoh, would make your kid suicidal.

If you believe in our American justice system you must accept that he is innocent until proven guilty. To do anything less is to make a mockery of our values and beliefs.

Uh, no. If I am in a court of law and sitting as a juror in an ongoing case, then I must agree to the legal fiction that everyone is innocent until proven guilty. Otherwise, no.

Again aother strawman. You keep indicating that “Jackson may or may not have done” something. What is that supposed to mean?

I’ll be unequivocal about it: Jackson is a pedophile and molested young boys.

You are one of a few who think you are God and can judge another human being. Well you aren’t and you can’t.

I don’t claim be God but I do have the ability to judge other human beings. You, otoh, lack the logic and honesty to do so.

If Michael Jackson did those things he is paying for it now. If he did not I am certain that he is with the lord. That is as it should be.

Bull.

Your other illogical tirades bores me, so I’ll skip it.

Blake on June 27, 2009 at 5:02 PM

It should have been Joe Jackson(the father)to die instead of Michael. All his kids would have secretly been relieved.

It isn’t everyday I run into someone who doesn’t know me yet can judge my parenting skills. your insults are laughable. I dare say you actually admit if your child were raped you would let the accused go free rather than have your child testify. That is sick and twisted logic. There are ways to protect children in the courtroom. You simply have no idea about what you are talking about. Had you considered the real world instead of the fantasyland you live in you would know that.

Enough of this guy . . . he was a perverted, drug addicted, pedophile song and dance man. The time and effort spent on this story by the mainstream media vividly reflects the sickness that has overtaken this poor Republic.
