He could have gotten away with it. He should have released a proposal for a massive government-run single-payer program first. Then everything would be groovy.

Funny thing is, Democrat Bill Clinton used a middle east crisis to divert attention from a sex scandal,

while Democrats of the Obama age use a sex scandal to divert attention from a middle east crisis.

You’ve evolved, libs!

The self-deception of the Democrat Party is stunning.

Good. Now I don't have to keep reading comments about what a strong GOP candidate Sanford's going to be in 2012.

He seems to have been a good governor and I like his stand against taking stimulus money for what good that did, but personally I don't think he'd be a whole lot better than Huckabee, and I'm not sold on Romney yet...he reeks of 'government-based solutions' to me.

Can you imagine if he won the Republican primary and this came out?

I like the way you think. Although I sympathize with Sanford, I am looking for more from a possible challenger to Obama in 2012. It will get ugly. Someone needs to bring their A game.

The tragic irony here is that Sanford seems like a man who hasn't gotten laid in a long time. I think he had marital problems, though spending Father's Day with a whore and lying to his staff was a pretty stupid move. She should have come to him when he wouldn't be missed. I think he committed ritual hari kari, or maybe thought he couldn't get a divorce if he wanted a shot at national politics, so he imploded.

It is neither hypocritical nor self-destructive for Republicans to expel him from public office: in fact, it is an act of self-preservation. If Republicans are not willing to demand of their representatives adherence to such a vital principle, then who will trust the Republicans to uphold ANY principle, and who would vote for them?

I agree with you both. I think Sanford's Presser, while seemingly crazy and rambling was actually a man speaking honestly and from the heart. Someone who is hurt, immensely disappointed in and upset with himself and his personal weaknesses, truly remorseful and in pain.

Nuclear, I agree with you as well. Republicans/Conservatives are putting *themselves* in a box by imposing their own standards of morality at all costs on everyone else, thus inviting the name-calls of hypocrites or liars if someone falls, as humans are wont to do.

When I want piously perfect and meeting all "moral" standards, I'll look to a pastor. What I want from a political LEADER is someone who is ethical (there is a difference between ethics and morals) and who will further the agenda that is best for this Country.

And this whole incident. . . how people here have handled it, not how the Governor has handled it. . . is precisely why I will never become a part of the Republican party.

The Republican party is full of a bunch of losers.

HAHAHAHAHA! I hate to hear anyone has such limited thinking.

And this whole incident. . . how people here have handled it, not how the Governor has handled it. . . is precisely why I will never become a part of the Republican party.

The Republican party is full of a bunch of losers.

I'm laughing to myself trying to figure out how many fools wouldn't still be alive if you were in Nuclear's group 3. Not too many I hope.

Anyway, I have no doubt that this affair will be painful for all involved--I don't need to think twice about that. I also believe that Gov. Sanford acted on weakness rather than malice. However, in matters of Free Will, I think to act out of weakness is every bit as wrong as acting out of malice. I'm not talking about degrees of sin, but rather real world consequences.

So yes, belief in punishment in the after life and pain of guilt can prevent a fall into vice. However, for group 2 these deterrents can all to often, whenever convenient, be placed in a state of suspended animation until such time as the truth comes out. Only then is it time to start talking about God,Guilt, and Forgiveness. Again, not real indicative of an "authentic character."

As far as those in group 3 having, by virtue of their rejection of our value system, the green light to rape, pillage, plunder, and party down like a barbarian, well, all I can say about that is that I'm no convinced that everyone who rejects our values is a murderous raper and pillager. I don't think that's the case.

Having watched the entire press conference, and having talked with Mark Sanford three times on his campaigns thru SC, I am again convinced of this man's basic integrity. His rambling presser was an honest, humble man acknowledging his humiliating failure to live up to his beliefs.

He admitted infidelity and having gone to meet the woman 3 times. To many Christians and even the law, infidelity doesn't have to be physical, so by calling his relationship 'infidelity' he may have admitted to more wrongdoing than other leaders [including Presidents] while having done less.

Obviously, his priorities now should be to serve the citizens of SC while re-earning the trust of his family. But if Sanford is successful in those I personally would have no problem supporting him for Prez. The David Lettermans of the world--or his fans--don't influence my vote in any way.

I'm sure you could, but I think Jesus would get bored.
