Open thread: Hey, who’s up for an hour-long infomercial on ObamaCare?

posted at 9:40 pm on June 24, 2009 by Allahpundit

10 p.m. ET on ABC. What better way to wind down from terror in Tehran and heart-ache in South Carolina than by watching Obama play pattycake with Gibson and Sawyer? The World News Tonight audience has already been duly informed that “the need is obvious” for health-care reform. Now it’s The One’s time to shine.

And he’d better shine awfully bright.

A majority of Americans see government action as critical to controlling runaway health-care costs, but there is broad public anxiety about the potential impact of reform legislation and conflicting views about the types of fixes being proposed on Capitol Hill, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

Most respondents are “very concerned” that health-care reform would lead to higher costs, lower quality, fewer choices, a bigger deficit, diminished insurance coverage and more government bureaucracy. About six in 10 are at least somewhat worried about all of these factors, underscoring the challenges for lawmakers as they attempt to restructure the nation’s $2.3 trillion health-care system…

Survey questions that equate the public option approach with the popular, patient-friendly Medicare system tend to get high approval, as do ones that emphasize the prospect of more choices. But when framed with an explicit counterargument, the idea receives a more tepid response. In the new Post-ABC poll, 62 percent support the general concept, but when respondents were told that meant some insurers would go out of business, support dropped sharply, to 37 percent.

Cato’s liveblogging it so check there frequently for libertarian-flavored fact-checking. We’ll have video later in the unlikely event that something important gets said. While you wait, be sure to read David Brooks’s piece yesterday about the Senate’s health-care bill. With even his most trusted RINO allies wavering, The One’s margin for error here is nil.

Liberals are twisted and have a bad habit of not thinking things through…they freak out over the government listening in on their phone calls but find no problems letting the government know every detail about their personal medical problems…

Sigh…

major healthcare reform.

Depends on what your definition of “reform” is…

To anyone who understands it, there can be no reform that doesn’t start with TORT REFORM… But as the Dems are bought and paid for by the trial bar, this will never happen… So let’s have a plan that gives lawyers a deeper pocket in the form of the tax payers pockets… Great F’n idea…

phreshone on June 24, 2009 at 11:13 PM

Shouldn’t someone be pointing out that he pushed his stimulus because when he ran the numbers, we had to spend billions or unemployment would go to 10%. This week, he acknowledged unemployment would be 10%.

Are we going to get Obamacare and then once we are knee deep into it, we get a “whoopsie” out of Obama?

This is such a sham.

And in case anyone missed the Obamamercial, I have a short recap here.

I can’t watch it. If I watch it, I will throw a book through my flat screen, destroying the television, and my blood pressure will be off the chart. This will cause me to call 911 and have an ambulance cart me off to the hospital, where I will wait for six hours to see a nurse practitioner that will tell me, after a two minute look see at me blood draw, numerous xrays, and tell me that I am fine and I should see my family doctor. Then, he will hand me a five hundred dollar bill for his services, which will cause me to pass out, another seven hours in the ER, waiting for the nurse practitioner to sew up the gash in my head. When I finally get home, my husband will be waiting, pull out the book from his destroyed television and bonk me over the head with it, thus causing me to have to call 911 to have the ambulance come and cart me off to the ER to have the nurse practitioner to sew up the other side of my head.
No, I can’t afford to watch this bullsh*t!

He has said repeatedly that he will bankrupt the coal industry, cause electricity cost to SKYROCKET, nationalize medical/health care, control banks and all financial institutions. He Obama is just delivering what he promised. What I realy want to know who voted for Obama.

OT: Monkey urinates on Zambian president

A monkey urinated on Zambian President Rupiah Banda as he spoke to reporters outside his State House offices on Wednesday.

“You have urinated on my jacket,” a startled Banda told the monkey, one of many that makes their home in the trees outside his offices.

“I will give this monkey for lunch to Mr Sata,” he joked, referring to opposition leader Michael Sata, who Banda defeated in last year’s elections.

Banda devoted much of his second news conference as president to reassuring Zambians over the dramatic economic slowdown resulting from plunging prices for copper, the country’s main export.

“Our growth prospects have diminished, such that the projected gross domestic product has now been revised downwards to 4.0 percent or below. This reduction has implications for the domestic revenues, with both cooperate and income taxes likely to reduce,” Banda said.

I want to hire this monkey…I have a “job” for him that should be right up his alley…

Sadly he does understand them because he is one of them. An narcissistic socio-facsit with a thirst for power. Willing to sell out and destroy their own country and people at any cost.

DLEW on June 24, 2009 at 11:41 PM

Ok, so apparently this guys reads my comments here. How many times have I told you all that this new Obamacare will result in TWO SEPARATE BUT “EQUAL” HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS.

…Dr. Orrin Devinsky, a neurologist and researcher at the New York University Langone Medical Center, said that elites often propose health care solutions that limit options for the general public, secure in the knowledge that if they or their loves ones get sick they will be able to afford the best care available, even if it’s not provided by insurance.

Devinsky asked the president pointedly if he would be willing to promise that he wouldn’t seek such extraordinary help for his wife or daughters if they became sick and the public plan he’s proposing limited the tests or treatment they can get.

The president refused to make such a pledge, though he allowed that if “it’s my family member, if it’s my wife, if it’s my children, if it’s my grandmother I always want them to get the very best care.”

A lot of people out here think this is supposed to be free. They expect to get a card, they can wave at the doctor and get free medicine. Those folks are not interested in some complicated bs program that they will have to sign up for and help pay for and actually support in anyway.

If it ain’t free, they don’t want it. I just don’t know if Obama can deliver on that.

Go to your local hospital tonight, cruise through the emergency room. One way or another we pay.

bazil9 on June 24, 2009 at 11:54 PM

I remember sitting in one for almost five hours before I got called upon.

Oh, but the illegals got served first.

blatantblue on June 24, 2009 at 11:56 PM

Between Health Care and Cap and Trade Obama is going to be President of a third world country- just like all the other African presidents of the world. Think about that.

bigtexmex on June 24, 2009 at 11:56 PM

‘The stars are aligned’.
The only thing aligned are a bunch of liberal Saul Alinsky types that are trying to ruin this country.
But come 2010, you’re going to be very sad, obama. Very sad. I have some KY if you need some, and hey, we have a monkey that can keep you company, president!

HornetSting on June 24, 2009 at 11:56 PM

I loved that non-answer on taxing health benefits. Baucus has made it clear that NO Union members will be subject to taxation of health benefits. Tada.

Yes, and for non- emergencies. It is their own private doc office and they know it.

bazil9 on June 24, 2009 at 11:58 PM

2010? It will way too late. When did Americans become so dumb that they fall for this stuff.

bigtexmex on June 24, 2009 at 11:58 PM

If it ain’t free, they don’t want it. I just don’t know if Obama can deliver on that.

Terrye on June 24, 2009 at 11:55 PM

True, he is blatantly lying when he is saying now that only those making $250,000 will have higher taxes. All the dem proposals have taxes that will affect everyone. He is never going to be able to sell that especially since most are already happy with their own plans.

msmveritas on June 25, 2009 at 12:00 AM

Don’t let it get to you like that.

They are not going to get what they want.

blatantblue on June 24, 2009 at 11:50 PM

I would love for you to be right, but I never thought they would take over banks or car companys either. I have to admit I`m very concerned about cap and trade that alone could further derail the economy.

TADA indeed.

bigtexmex:

I am not so sure about that. The government does not move on anything that quickly, just look at the socalled stimulus spending. This could be done away with.

Terrye on June 25, 2009 at 12:02 AM

Well yeah and since his support is based on lies and false promises, sooner or later he will have to put up or shut up.

Yes, they’ll get some of what they want, but not everything, friend!

Obarfy is Icarus in modern form.

The bar has been set too high for this man.

The left threw it’s wax wings and tried to have Obarfy shoot for the stars

But they will melt his wings and he’ll come crashing back down to Crete, just like Icarus.

People will get tired very soon, and if our side makes the right moves (which I doubt they will sometimes, with doofs like Mark Sanford and Ensign around), we can turn this f*cking boat around real soon.
