Open thread: Hey, who’s up for an hour-long infomercial on ObamaCare?

10 p.m. ET on ABC. What better way to wind down from terror in Tehran and heart-ache in South Carolina than by watching Obama play pattycake with Gibson and Sawyer? The World News Tonight audience has already been duly informed that “the need is obvious” for health-care reform. Now it’s The One’s time to shine.

And he’d better shine awfully bright.

A majority of Americans see government action as critical to controlling runaway health-care costs, but there is broad public anxiety about the potential impact of reform legislation and conflicting views about the types of fixes being proposed on Capitol Hill, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

Most respondents are “very concerned” that health-care reform would lead to higher costs, lower quality, fewer choices, a bigger deficit, diminished insurance coverage and more government bureaucracy. About six in 10 are at least somewhat worried about all of these factors, underscoring the challenges for lawmakers as they attempt to restructure the nation’s $2.3 trillion health-care system…

Survey questions that equate the public option approach with the popular, patient-friendly Medicare system tend to get high approval, as do ones that emphasize the prospect of more choices. But when framed with an explicit counterargument, the idea receives a more tepid response. In the new Post-ABC poll, 62 percent support the general concept, but when respondents were told that meant some insurers would go out of business, support dropped sharply, to 37 percent.

Cato’s liveblogging it so check there frequently for libertarian-flavored fact-checking. We’ll have video later in the unlikely event that something important gets said. While you wait, be sure to read David Brooks’s piece yesterday about the Senate’s health-care bill. With even his most trusted RINO allies wavering, The One’s margin for error here is nil.

I cancelled cable last year when I foresaw Barry becoming President and appearing on TV to bullshaite us every 10 days. And where I live, rabbit ears get you snow with sound.

In other words, I’ll pass.

fiatboomer on June 24, 2009 at 9:45 PM

I’m eager to see the viewership numbers tomorrow. (Not that I expect them to reflect anything like accuracy…) It’s on at 10 p.m. on a work night, Iran and Mark Sanford have already stolen a lot of The One’s thunder, and people have already seen so much of the jug-eared fool, they might just decide to watch “UFC Fight Night” instead.

Sometimes it feels like the whole world’s against us.

What the devil do the folks in the press think they’re good for, if it’s not at least pretending to offer some sort of moderately objective analysis of events of the world?

For a little bit, I had considered a career as a journalist… I honestly don’t know how these people can look at themselves in the mirror, and call themselves journalists, when all they do is lick liberal scrotum 24/7.

The only community college in Indiana. I have two responsibilities. I teach microbiology for health science students (nurses, surgical techs, rad techs, respiratory techs), and I am a faculty member in the biotechnology program. We prepare students to obtain employment at biotechnology/pharmaceutical/research companies in our 2 year program. To graduate, students must complete a 2 month internship which usually leads to full-time employment (with benefits). My specialty (Piled Higher and Deeper) is genetics and molecular biology. I’m one of four in our department. We all share the teaching responsibilities for the curriculum. There are 3 regular Americans in our group, but unfortunately, our boss is an Obamaton that thinks single-payer is the way to go. Oy. Sad thing…….his wife is a physician (internist) who believes the same way.

76% Say Government Likely To Waste Stimulus Money
Wednesday, June 24, 2009

Seventy-six percent (76%) of Americans say it is at least somewhat likely that a large amount of money in the $787-billion economic stimulus plan will be wasted due to inadequate government oversight.

massrighty on June 24, 2009 at 10:03 PM

My boss’s wife complains that it is the insurance companies that are the problem. She claims that 50 cents of every dollar she earns is wasted on processing and dealing with insurance companies. She thinks that without insurances (aka single-payer) the costs will go down. I tried to explain to my Obamaton boss that no matter what there will be a limited pool of money to pay for everyone’s health care and it will ultimately lead to rationing. He already claims that we have socialized medicine and everyone is paying for it through the multitude of taxes and fees the gubmint collects so we might as well go all of the way towards single-payer.

The sad thing is I just do not trust Barack Obama. I don’t think this is about health care at all, it is about gaining and keeping power. The Democrats want to make more Americans more dependent on the state because they think it will help them get and keep power. How they manage that and what the long term results of it are…really do not matter to them.

That is what I think. And I wonder how many other people out there think the same thing.
