I followed your link. I can understand that if this was Obama’s plan A, he really needs to come up with plan B after this past week.

I will say, however, that I have my doubts that Iran would ever, even a few years ago, have accepted many of the requirements of any “grand bargain” with us. Particularly troublesome would be allowing Israel to exist and de-fanging Hezbollah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad.

It appears from the piece you linked that Condoleeza Rice was in favor of and made some trial movement toward this “bargain,” but it seems that Tehran was pretty uninterested. Simplistically perhaps, I think the Iranian mullahs just really want, as a first step, Israel GONE.

I am taking the liberty of reposting your link, in case anyone else wants to check it out. It was a fascinating read – long and detailed.

I can only dispute your claim with the following. He pandered to everyone before the US elections. He was not the most powerfull man in the free world when he was a candidate. He is now. Thus, his actions are now representative (Obama Doctrine) of the American foreign relations. What say you now?

Does this mean, now, that all the Muslims from Iran who have moved into England and are using a great deal of social services there, are now going to go back home?

It’d sure be nice if they did.

Most of the Iranians in Britain are middle and upper class professionals. Same with US. They are probably contributing to pensions rather than draining the national treasure.

The key in all this is Rafsanjani IMO, and it is not looking good. At least not from what we are seeing currently. Khamenei is in a fight for his life though. Plus, I think he cannot put the toothpaste back in the tube even if he remains in power. He will be governing from a much weaker position, and another rebellion could finally put an end to this guy.

I keep envisioning President Skateboard with his head in one of those cutout holes where people throw pies at your head. Khamenei has a lifetime supply of rhubarb pies to toss!

Watching this Administration is like watching a new comedy channel, but sometimes their act is not so funny.

This message sent by Obama to suit and support his Cairo speech by reestablishing of cordial relations with Iran is quite the “tell”. For me now this clearly makes Obama’s behavior where he said that he did not want “meddle” consistant with his remarks but he has already displayed his hand to Iran regime before the elections.
