Video: Obama’s testy press conference

posted at 9:17 pm on June 23, 2009 by Allahpundit

A nifty compilation from TPM, although the only moment that rises to true snottiness, I think, is his high-handed reminder that he’s the president in response to the question about McCain. Don’t get mad just because you had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the podium to denounce shooting unarmed women in the heart, champ.

In his defense, he has a right to be testy: His agenda’s collapsing. Exit question via Jim Treacher: How is it that Obama was a genius yesterday for not condemning Iranian brutality and tomorrow he’ll be heralded as a genius for condemning it today? I guess he’s just super-keen on timing, huh?

Tapper and Stossel are no match for Obama’s bullshitting abilities.

pirateoftheperineum on June 24, 2009 at 12:24 AM

Ah yes, Obama doesn’t understand the concept of having to run a SUCCESSFUL business in health care.

He doesn’t understand that when he says he’ll be ‘competing’, that means that if it COSTS a lot of money (since it won’t make a profit), he’ll just take the deficit from the taxpayers.

Is Obama going to allow the insurance companies to take money from the taxpayers too? That’s the only way it would be true ‘competition’. The free market does work. . . but only if you let bad models fail. If you prop up bad models and force them to succeed (like GM), then you will always run a business in a deficit. You will never find the necessary efficiencies. Charging the taxpayer shouldn’t be available for a ‘competitive’ market.

Bottom line, a public plan won’t work.

He cannot chain smoke because he is 95% cured.
Is that like being 95% pregnant? Maybe he does not inhale.
It’s just more evidence of his pesky problem with math. The TOTUS and the calculator on his Blackberry keep betraying him.

The press should give their messiah a “high-handed reminder he is president” when they ask him about his lousy economy.

BTW He’s a misogynist, so he can’t smoke Newports. He smokes Camels. They remind him of Cairo.

HellCat on June 24, 2009 at 12:30 AM

Let’s all chip in and buy him 12,987 cartons of unfiltered.

And he IS the President.
Remember, Nixon used to use that line…

TexasJew on June 24, 2009 at 12:44 AM

my favorite thing about this video is how it got through Obama’s bloviating. It cut his sentences down to the substantive parts.

bombos on June 24, 2009 at 1:18 AM

It didn’t actually cut much, other than the mind-numbing pauses between his attempts to make sense.

Loved the “spock like answers” comment.

cannonball on June 24, 2009 at 1:24 AM

Is this press conference a sign that the honeymoon is over?

cannonball on June 24, 2009 at 1:25 AM

“You all are on a 24 hour news cycle, I’m not”

What…the…FAAAA? I guess he forgot to add: “because I’ve got ice cream to eat, burgers to eat, skateboarders to entertain, golf to play…..”

Jeeebus H. Key..ryst…. I guess Her Thighness was right…he has no interest in answering the phone at 3:00 am.

Great, a President that doesn’t get constant briefings about a crisis. Lovely.

Fed45 on June 24, 2009 at 1:31 AM

Oh, boy, this guy is as slick as snot through a goose.

He obfuscates, and deliberately convolutes the question to such a level that nobody can figure out what he just said. That bit about “logic” was rich, Tapper rightly called him on it, but the Master Manipulator holds the strings, and blithely whisked him away.

There needs to be a conservative “Sam Donaldson” out there that will not let this fish off the hook. He can be rattled, but you have to know his m.o. and be ready to pounce when he starts.

Joe Pyne on June 24, 2009 at 1:32 AM

Did he cut out all the “um’s” and “uh’s,” lol?

nickj116 on June 24, 2009 at 1:47 AM

Sooooo, Obama is saying that private insurance companies, who must make a profit to stay in business, can effectively compete with the government, which doesn’t have to make a profit and pays it’s workers with OUR money?????

That has to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.
Anybody here want to compete with a company that doesn’t have to make a profit and has a never-ending source of money? Yeah, I think I already know the answer to that one.

He is very thin skinned. He has never really been pushed during the process because of the color of his skin. If the questions ever get tough, accusatory and confrontational like say, a typical Bush news conference, this guy is going to go ballistic. Watch. I can see it coming.

TheBigOldDog on June 24, 2009 at 2:57 AM

Sooner or later he’s going to go around the bend. The question is, will it be like James Cagney in ‘Mister Roberts’, or, will it be more along the lines of Humphrey Bogart in ‘The Caine Mutiny’? Either way, it won’t be pretty.

I’m guessing the strawberries are going to go missing.

trigon on June 24, 2009 at 3:25 AM

He has never really been pushed during the process because of the color of his skin.

TheBigOldDog on June 24, 2009 at 2:57 AM

Yup. Unfortunately, they will never get past his skin. There will never be a real press conference asking him tough questions because the press slugs would rather die than be seen beating up a black man over a job he was never qualified to be even close to. That would be tantamount to declaring affirmative action to have been a miserable failure that has led to the destruction of our nation, and that just won’t happen. We’ve already seen how far they are willing to twist reason to try and support his absolutely insane babblings. It won’t stop. The neo-Pravda press can’t stop.

A nation of cowards … about to be dragged down the abyss by an affirmative action retard and his America-hating junta. They’ll burn it all down to protect their illusory world, just like that other Hussein, who dumped 40,000,000 barrels of oil into the gulf and lit just about every oil well in Kuwait on fire – all as he was being allowed to retreat in one of the most humiliating military defeats in all of history. That is the situation we are in with respect to the press, the left, and our federal government. Only the future history books will record the truth of the insanity that has gripped, and will likely kill, America.

Some, some real journalists can read polls, now they may begin to smell blood. The testy and snotty only go so far and when your ratings are in the tank it is time to drag out the snarfy katie and her ilk.The marketing guys will demand that the pack attack to get joe sixpax back.
If some of the media turn on zero the rest of the pack will move in.Meantime keep praying that zero’s handlers keep him fluffed up so he still thinks he has his clothes on.

Col.John Wm. Reed on June 24, 2009 at 7:13 AM

I wish Jake Tapper would have thrown his shoe at Dumbo.

jimmy2shoes on June 24, 2009 at 7:14 AM

You know I disagree with everything the man says and does, but with 15 more years experience in Washington he could have been an effective liberal president.

McCain circa 2000 versus Obama circa 2016 would have made a pretty good 2008 race.

I’m interested to see if the “if you like it you can keep it” walkback story has legs. If I didn’t have 3 proposals due this week I’d do a mashup of all his campaign video on this point. He must have used that line 100 times, so it was no slipup in phrasing. He either didn’t understand what his plan meant or he understood perfectly and hoped no one else did.

DrSteve on June 24, 2009 at 7:55 AM

Col.John Wm. Reed on June 24, 2009

It’s a nice thought, but I don’t think I can agree with you on this. The state-run media is so heavily invested in “teh One” that they would have to deny their core belief structure to turn on him. He represents everything they hold dear even if he is a slimey, incompetent POS. He is their slimey, incompetent POS. As for “real” journalists, how many of those are in evidence; two, three?
I will be very happy if you are proven correct but my expectation of the media is so low it’s just hard to imagine the outcome you envision.

SKYFOX on June 24, 2009 at 8:07 AM

He’s not on a 24 hour news cycle? So does that mean that if at 3 am North Korea launches a nuke at us he will say “Hey, I’m not on a news cycle right now leave me alone until 7 am”?

Secondly, of course a public insurance plan will break the insurance companies. It’ll break me personally! Not only will I get to pay for my health insurance but, my neighbors as well. What a jerk.

He has no right to be testy. Management 101… you take the land, you get the indians.

There’s a certain poetic justice when the former bomb thrower finds himself in the glare of the klieg lights fending off the assaults he would have taken pleasure in delivering just a few short months ago.

July 4 Atlanta Tea Party Cancelled

IrishEi on June 23, 2009 at 10:35 PM
So now all conservative event organizers need to check the political affiliation of those it deals with.

Wonderful.

csdeven on June 24, 2009 at 12:21 AM

Not completely cancelled…the one that was planned in Gwinnett is joining with Cobb.

http://www.atlantateaparty.net/

Dooley stated, “The most important thing to do at this point is to stay on message, so we are joining forces with the Cobb for a large metro-area Tea Party on Friday, July 3rd, at 6 PM. The event is at Jim Miller Park at 2245 Callaway Road in Marietta. For information on the event, contact Cobb organizer Ben Mihalski at 770-726-7188, or visit http://www.cobbteaparty.com/ .”

If you are not in the Metro Atlanta area, then please attend a Tea party near you. For more information, please visit http://www.teapartypatriots.org/

Thompson added, “The Atlanta Tea Party has a great team and is already planning for the July 17th Tea Party Patriots Protests at Congressional offices all across Georgia over nationalized healthcare. We will work hard to make sure our voices are heard and our message is clear.”

What’s that crap argument about how, if private insurance is so great, government insurance would put them out of business? If you put a FREE GOVERNMENT DONUTS shop next to a Dunkin’ Donuts, Dunkin’ is going to go out of business, no matter how bad the gub’mint donuts or how good the Dunkin’ donuts are.
The point of his federal healthcare is to put government in control of another aspect of people’s lives, which is the goal of any socialist dictator.

We were just in Italy and needed some medical attention. I asked the doc about how we were able to get seen so fast. We were in a private hospital. It wasn’t all that expensive. However, he said that it would take six months to be seen for the same thing in the public healthcare system even though the situation was serious.

If obama shoves his communist healthcare down our throats, then lots of people will end up dying.

The only people who will have decent health care will be the democratic party apparatchics and their friends like Billy Bomber Ayers
