Why, I beg your pardon. Please forgive me. I can’t believe how insensitive I’ve become to the plight of these illegal, but wonderful people, stealing, er I mean long term borrowing, our tax dollars.

The ONLY solution is a temporary worker program. No citizenship. Study the one that Canada uses. It works VERY well. The only problem is that you have to actually ENFORCE existing law. If you find an illegal, you deport them. The temporary worker program gives farmers employees that they need, gives workers (who want to make money for their families) work and money, and it gives law enforcement a tool to enforce the law.

We already have that system, it is called the H-2A visa. It allows an unlimited number of seasonal workers to come to the United States for agriculture. A lot of employers won’t use it b/c they can get illegal aliens for cheaper.

Plus, the Red Card system has a major flaw that is not being addressed. It wants private contractors in foreign countries to do all of the necessary background checks for persons wanting to come to the United States. Fraud already runs rampant in our immigration system when the federal government does the background checks. What will happen with a company operating in a foreign country starts doing these checks? We tried having a private contractor do background checks for immigration applications before–it was Citizenship USA, and it resulted in background checks either not being done, or not being done properly.

The manufacturers, processors, and construction companies that hire illegal aliens do not hire them b/c they cannot find anyone else, they hire them b/c they cannot find anyone else willing to take such low wages and work in such terrible conditions. Proposing something like Red Card gives credit to the myth that these employers cannot find workers. Furthermore, Red Card will not solve that problem. The companies will still hire illegal aliens because they will likely work cheaper than the Red Card workers. When it comes down to it, the scenario doesn’t change–what fixes the illegal immigration issue is taking the federal laws seriously that have been passed by Congress and signed by the President.

I agree 100%. They bit off waaaay more than they can chew and are going to need to spit something out to get anything done. Although I like the idea of Obama gridlock. It’s puts off his socialist policies until we can get some checks and balances in place in Congress. If enough Americans pull their heads out of their asses and learn some basic governmental principles, that is.
