State Dep’t: Iranian diplomats still welcome to celebrate July 4th with U.S.; Update: Video added

Via Weasel Zippers, a gesture of solidarity per our two nations’ shared interest in life, liberty, and shooting women in the heart on the street, I guess.
Not even a disinvitation to the barbecue on America’s birthday as punishment for killing protesters, huh, Barry? Absolutely the lowest moment of his presidency thus far.
President Barack Obama’s administration said earlier this month it would invite Iran to US embassy barbecues for the national holiday for the first time since the two nations severed relations following the 1979 Islamic revolution.
“There’s no thought to rescinding the invitations to Iranian diplomats,” State Department spokesman Ian Kelly told reporters.
“We have made a strategic decision to engage on a number of fronts with Iran,” Kelly said. “We tried many years of isolation, and we’re pursuing a different path now.”
Below you’ll find a new clip of The One’s hot-dog buddies in action. No idea when or where it was taken, but it doesn’t matter. The official death toll over the weekend was 17; assuming this was recorded on Saturday and considering that we’ve got yet another corpse caught on film here, how likely does that number seem to you? Strong content warning, needless to say.
A HuffPo blogger astutely describes the regime’s strategy now as “Tiananmen in slow motion,” aimed at strangling the protests with periodic scattered violence to avoid the media clusterfark of a grand massacre. Mousavi’s countermove is keeping people out of the streets with tomorrow’s planned national strike, which an ABC analyst in Tehran says will be big shakes if it comes off. Assuming it does — and the same analyst says activity is already sparse at Tehran’s bazaars — the next eruption could/should come on Wednesday, when the Guardian Council announces the results of its sham probe into the sham election results. Contain your surprise at learning that preliminary findings have indicated no fraud.
Something to ponder while you watch. If the revolution stalls now and heats up again, say, in two years, how will a nuclear-armed Khamenei respond to the prospect of being toppled from power? That is to say, even if you believe the mullahs can be trusted to act rationally under normal circumstances, can they also be trusted to act rationally under abnormal circumstances? Exit quotation: “[T]he Iranians are missing two words from Obama: ‘I condemn.’”
Update: RCP has video of the State Department presser. Biiiiig smile.

Obama has not only given a wink and a nudge to the Islamists to crack down on the protesters, not even the ruling body more then half hearted warning, Obama still invites him to a party to celebrate that which the Islamists crushed.
I’d take Bush back in a heartbeat over this guy, hell Carter learnt something at the end of his term.

horrible video…
I think it is necessary to remind naysayers that this is a truly serious situation. Perhaps a video of this graphic nature is what is needed to capture the attention of our desensitized public? After all, we’ve seen worse on CSI, ER, etc.
What will it take for Obama to actually speak words of support instead of releasing a statement? My prayers to all of the injured and dead.

Yes, the State Department is that stupid. What will be their reaction to the July 4th celebrations when the Tea Parties start winding up? How does the State Department expalain them? How does Obama explain them? I’ve never heard of a newly elected President whose own citizens have taken to the streets many times in the past 6 months. They think he is a loser already. How does an invite to July 4th celebrations help him? Aren’t the North Koreans going to launch missiles on the 4th?
It might be the day that the whole country discovers that Obama and the State Dept. are hopelessly stupid.

I joked about this last Friday, when it came out that Britain was the new #1 enemy of Iran — Obama would call that an “improvement” over Bush (nothing like currying favors with murderous misogynistic terror-supporting repressive Islamist dictators) — but it’s no joke.
Paul Begala actually had the (I’m missing a pg-rated term) to say just that.
Sometimes I want to vomit. Really.

Once again, I’m embarrassed and ashamed to have this man as the leader of our country. What next, invite the mullahs to a round of golf? Treat them to an ice cream? He’s making a mockery of the office. John McCain makes a eulogy. The president has only silence. Pathetic.

More likely, they’ll get the Chicken Cordon Bleu that the Gitmo prisoners eat, and out of deference, quiet time will be taken for prayers, and the Iranians will be able to bathe their feet in the Reflecting Pool, and Michelle will be wearing the newest, most fashionable sleeveless burqa.

I wonder if all US embassies will be ordered to have their TV’s switched off, and covered up, just in case some friendly Iranian diplomats pop in to celebrate the 4th and possibly get offended by news coverage of Iran’s crackdown?
We don’t want to offend them … lest they kill lots of protesters, and it would all be legitimate and the US’ fault … and then The Precedent will have to embark on another Traitor Tour to apologize profusely for our offending the decent muslims running Iran …

How embarrassing for this great nation, to fall so far in such a short time because of one douchebag.
Bishop on June 22, 2009 at 6:44 PM
In light of the inevitable, but pale comparisons to the slaughter in Tiananmen Square by the communist maggots who run China, I have to ask an inconvenient question:
If you are the mullahs, and you look at that brutal repression with the knowledge that the Chinese government has suffered nothing adverse from the U.S. as a result of slaughtering 2,300 of their own people, then it must be awfully tempting to flip off their critics and ask them to come back after they straighten out China.
Here in the land of conservatism, it’s very easy to critique our terrorist-enabling State Department and our cowardly President, but didn’t Bush take a forgive-and-forget position vis a vis the Chicoms?
I am not playing the Devil’s Advocate, here. The Devil can GFH, and his little dog Ahmedinejad, too. But when I see these videos, all I can think of is Tiananmen.

Unless it is a pork BBQ, forget it.
Friend and foe alike are taking measure of Mr Obama. The forces of goodness are incrementally becoming more timid in the face of evil and savage men.
Rest assured, our acting president will strike a strong, defiant pose and read reheated outrage prepared by the script writers before going on a stroll for ice cream.
The president diminishes himself and his office every day, resulting in a more dangerous and unpredictable world.
But if the White House insists on extending the invitation, one can only hope the Iranians attend the fanfare and protests follow.
