Obama’s economy?

Barack Obama has managed to ride out his first five months in office by blaming his predecessor for the economic tribulations he “inherited”, but new polling shows that excuse running out of steam. Although a majority still give George Bush more blame than Obama, those numbers have fallen quickly as Obama’s stimulus spending fails to stop runaway unemployment, according to Rasmussen:
While most U.S. voters still blame the Bush Administration for the nation’s economic problems, a growing number are inclined to blame President Barack Obama.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 39% of voters now say the country’s economic problems are caused more by the policies Obama has put in place. That’s a 12-point jump from a month ago.
Fifty-four percent (54%) still say the country’s economic woes are due to the recession Obama inherited from President Bush. That figure is down eight points from 62% from early June.
That’s a 20-point shift, a significant movement in just two weeks. The biggest factor may be the unemployment report in early June that showed joblessness rising much faster than Obama’s team had predicted, even without a $787 billion stimulus bill. If so, then we can expect a major shift when unemployment crosses the double-digit threshold, as even Obama predicts it will this year. We can call that the expiration date for blaming Bush, and the moment when the economy becomes Obama’s fault, as his expensive and expansive policies fail to arrest the economic decline.
The crosstabs, as always, show some interesting motion. Majorities of both whites and blacks blame Bush, but a majority of “Others” (primarily Asians and Hispanics) blame Obama, 54%-43%. Independents split on the question, 48%-46%, leaning towards blaming Obama, a big problem if that moves towards a majority. Democrats and Republicans have predictable splits, as do conservatives and liberals, but the most interesting split comes in the Political Class demographics. Without leaners, a plurality of self-described “mainstream” people blame Obama, while 100% of the self-professed political class blame Bush.
Nor does it look good for the future of Obama’s economic policy. This question had less to do with the current crisis and more to do with Obama’s policies for reversing it. A large majority believes they know better than Obama about economic issues, 60%-30%. That holds true in almost every demographic category, with a few notable exceptions. Blacks trust Obama more than themselves, 72%-21%, and liberals by 54%-30%, but Democrats can’t even get a majority for that position, 48%-37%. Independents trust themselves more than Obama by a whopping 76%-19%, almost identical to Republicans. A majority of higher-income workers (between $60-100K) blame Obama; the under-$20K demographic, which one could expect to be loyal to Obama, trust themselves more than Obama’s economic leadership, 49%-39%.
Obama only has a few weeks at most to keep using the “inherited from my predecessor” defense, if that. The next joblessness report comes out in early July, and it will probably spell an end to that defense, as well as support for Obamanomics in general.
Update (AP): If it’s not Obama’s economy yet, it will be soon.

Many economist say it is already well beyond 9.4% and is rather at 11-12%. I believe them.
As the car dealerships close, each business around them will also fail. We have yet to reap those numbers because they are still struggling, and not totally out of business just yet. And then there are the states who are going to have trouble meeting their budgets. We have not met the halfway fallout mark just yet.
The scariest part of all this is the emerging two class system. Unions are going to trump everything, and those not in a union are going to suffer mightily under the taxes on things from health care to job benefits like work issued cell phones.
After all the economic tsunamis hit, what worries me is how are we going to fund candidates in the upcoming elections? Think about it. What better way to make sure the GOP, or Conservatives stay out of power other than to take away their incomes, or tax them to death. Many have said it is clear this President’s economic stance is making sure the Democrat Party will stay in power for the ages. What he is doing is not engineered to help America, or the poor. It was created, and is being implemented with a singular purpose of erasing the entire middle class. All that follows is sheer gravy for those in DNC who champion Fascism over Americanism.

no one gets it, the “stimulus” money isn’t even projected to be spent until 2010 so that the demoncrats can fix some stuff and and fun their elections.
He didn’t need to read it because he knew it was crafted more as a re-election coffer stimulus than any sort of economy fix.
Sheeple is all we really are until we start paying attention to the DETAILS
screwauger on June 22, 2009 at 7:07 PM
Uhm, try and pay attention.
The Dems, with complete absolute control over both houses have physically locked out Repubs from participation in the drafting of any legislation dealing with the economy.
As the boondoggles keep popping up we now know why.
Obama has “owned” this economy since he took office.
I can’t for the life of me figure out why, Obama a US Senator for 4 years, was allowed to use the “I inherited this” excuse from day 1.
Carter could have claimed the “I inherited this” excuse, as he was a Governor not part of the Federal Government when he took office.
Same with Reagan and Clinton, they were Governors, not part of the Federal Government when he took office.
Bush 41 could not use this excuse because as VP, he WAS part of the Federal Government when he took office. Also note, as VP, Bush 41 had less power over the economy than ANY Senator.
Bush 43 could have claimed the “I inherited this” excuse, as he was a Governor not part of the Federal Government when he took office.
Does anyone know if he did?
Obama has no right to use the “I inherited this” excuse because he helped create what he now claims to have inherited!
Has any president ever whined as much as Obama?

If they wait too long the money won’t do the job. It won’t be enough to turn it around. However, they will have already done the damage just borrowing the money.

Actually I think the Republicans have done a pretty good job of resisting Obama’s agenda. They have hung together better than I thought they would. And they have not hesitated to make an issue of Obama’s desire to spend America into a third world country.
They are after all a minority right now and there are limits to what they can do.

What time do the triple moons rise on your world?
Del Dolemonte on June 22, 2009 at 7:22 PM
There are limits, yes, but they could do a lot. They could start by doing things that make the news. They could raise a big stink about Obama violating the constitution. They could raise a big stink about Obama breaking contract law, and breaking the law firing IGs.
The threats to do anything about it might be hollow, but if they yell loud enough, the MSM would HAVE to cover it. It will make the general public aware of just how corrupt Obama is. That would be the start of turning public opinion against him, and the votes in Congress would follow.

I think you sub conscientiously made a play on words :p.
Hence the “O”ppression
FontanaConservative on June 22, 2009 at 8:01 PM
You are so right! Bush’s timidity in answering his critics, and his failure to place blame squarely where it belonged: with the Chris Dodd/Barney Frank Fannie Mae/ACORN crowd allowed the Dems and the MSM to hoodwink a very gullible group of “undecideds” into voting for DuhWon.
Hopefully, future Republican leadership learned this painful lesson well. If NetZero’s vision goes unchallenged, it will undoubtedly put an end to America as we knew it. Hopefully, our own form of hopenchange will not be brought to bear too late.

I hate to mention this, but Paulson (a democrat, by the way)was Chuck U Schumer’s buddy whom was recommended by said Schumer after Snow quit.
Now, W. was, and still is my buddy. He did an above average job with the country overall, but appointing said Paulson, a democrat, was just plain, ahhhhhh, wrong.
I rank that mistake right up there with letting that besotted pig Tedward Kennedy write the education bill.
W. unfortunately wasn’t Reagan but his successes far outnumber his failures.
Go back to Canadia, Mr. Drywall.
Hey, why don’t you blog on Canada Free Press and see if they tolerate you any better?

Like I said elsewhere, I think it’s time to start talking secession.
I saw on TV that 12% of people in Vermont are talking secession, and that’s one of the most liberal states in the union.

very sad commentary indeed! Only thing I can say is the leftist/statist have done a great job of instilling dependency in the black culture. But sadly they are to blind to see.

The problem with this country is that there are very few TRUE CONSERVATIVES left. We all know that the DUMS are nothing but tax and spend idiots who keep repeating the same failed policies and hope for a different result. The Repulican party right now is so blinded that common sense escapes them. We a a nation are so deep in debt to China because the massive importation of GARBAGE (consumer goods) from them. Sadly it goes beyond consumer goods. Many US defense contractors closed up factories in the USA and bought critical parts from China to build weapons systems for our military to defend us. How many critical failures have happened in years past ? We will never know because both parties will CYA and take the attitude of “To Hell With The Rest Of The Country”. Personally I have been taking steps to avoid buying this garbage from China and other countries as much as possible. Thats just my $.08 (inflation)

Look at the picture. O has both hands firmly gripping the wheel for a serious left turn. B is just hanging on for the ride. Is this simile or metaphor?
Blacksmith8 on June 24, 2009 at 6:22 AM
Slightly OT, I was just over at the HuffPo blog. They had 270 comments about the Maryland women’s group equating Obama to Hitler.
For the article from the Financial Times about why the O’s financial plans won’t work, there were only three comments, none of which had any meat to them.
I hate moderated blogs, or at least ones that are moderated for PC rather than just for ad hominem attacks.
At least the HA folks (except lgm)sometimes provide serious information and dialogue.
