It’s come to this: Media scolded for absurd Bush-bashing by … Obama

Yeah. The guy who got elected as the anti-Bush before adopting much — but not all — of Dubya’s foreign policy has to rein in Harry Smith for claiming that Bush described The One as “treacherous.” Which part of Bush’s criticism did you mean, Harry? The bit where he said he believes in the free market? Or the part where he said he opposes socialized medicine? I suppose any criticism of statism nowadays counts as an accusation of high treason against the left.

So ludicrous is this that Obama can’t keep a straight face in correcting him. Good work, CBS.

It fits the ‘change’ and neutral narrative that they have given him. Once elected, he now is above criticizing Bush (or at least once criticism doesn’t have political power it used to because people are unemployed and Bush is nowhere near power.)

I think it shows class that Obama defended Dubya. But of course most of you will somehow still use this to attack him. ODS at its best!

And I can’t believe the 7/4 parties are still on with the Iranians when they can’t possibly understand what 7/4 was about after beating their citizens.

ThackerAgency on June 22, 2009 at 8:23 PM

WAPO spins for the One

When it comes to Dick Cheney, he and I have a deep disagreement about what’s required to keep the American people safe,” Obama told CBS’s Harry Smith. “And I think that disagreement has been amply aired and certainly he has the right to voice his opinions.”

Obama’s confidence — simplify the above quote and you get “We won, you lost” — is rooted in scads of polling data that shows an American public broadly supportive of him and roundly dismissive of Cheney.

The new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll paints this contrast starkly. Six in ten Americans view Obama in a favorable light while just 29 percent regarded him unfavorably. Cheney, on the other hand, was seen favorably by just 26 percent of the NBC/WSJ sample while 48 percent viewed him unfavorably.

As long as the Obama White House can cast the choice before the American people as one centered on personalities — Obama vs. Cheney, Obama vs. Bush, Obama vs. Palin — they will win.

Harry Smith for claiming that Bush described The One as “treacherous.”

Bush doesn’t have enough of a killer instinct to say anything like this, and the word Smith was really looking for was “treasonous”, which The Precedent clearly is.

So, now The Precedent even has straw men being offered up to him by the neo-Pravda media, as if the idiot messiah wasn’t good enough at creating them, himself.

How many people are going to research GWB’s comments? How many are going to listen to the little snippet and base their opinion on that?

When The One comes out a states he bashed GWB unfairly & GWB’s policies, especially the ones adopted by The One, were worthwhile and GWB is owed a large debt of gratitude than I’ll acknowledge The One’s class…..until then NO F’IN WAY!

Whenever dcwvu comments on a video, I know I can go back and watch it, and it will be the opposite of whatever smack dcwvu is talking. This was no exception.

The idiot interviewing Obama said Bush and Cheney accused Obama of treason. That was absurd, and maybe a fraction of the Democrat base is that stupid. Then to appear reasonable and mature, Obama laughed and chalked it up to policy and the best of intentions, emphasizing that he is right and the Bush administration is wrong.

It was, of course, patent BS, but it was also one of the softball, accommodating interviews Obama excels at with his faithful lapdog media propping him up. This was clearly the case in this clip.

The bit where he said he believes in the free market?

Yes as evidenced by the government bailouts and giving a democrat the position of Secretary of Treasury and the assigning him unprecedented powers. That’s just two examples off the top of my head.

Or the part where he said he opposes socialized medicine?

Yes as evidenced by his prescription drug plan the biggest government intervention in medicine since medicare.

And by reappointing Greenspan he was complicit in the housing bubble as well. Don’t go painting Bush as a free-marketeer, he wasn’t, he was a compassionate conservative, which is just a version of socialism, just slower. He didn’t even have the courage of his convictions to defend the one thing he did okay and that was the war on terror.

I think it shows class that Obama defended Dubya. But of course most of you will somehow still use this to attack him. ODS at its best!

dcwvu on June 22, 2009 at 8:22 PM

Easy for him to throw a scrap to people every now and then when just about every policy speech consists of strawman characterizations of his opposition. Let’s not forget what his campaign did with John McCain on immigration and health insurance.

aikidoka on June 22, 2009 at 9:20 PM

I guess thats what they call tough love. But still love for their attention nonetheless.

FontanaConservative on June 22, 2009 at 9:21 PM

Never thought I’d say this, but Obama displayed a little bit of honor there.

guntotinglibertarian on June 22, 2009 at 8:57 PM

It is hard to attribute honor for this to a man who has Bush-bashed from the moment he stepped into office. His incessant “Bush did it don’t blame me” rhetoric and now this, shows he knows how to talk out of both sides of his mouth fluently. No honor for him from me until his actions match his words. I’m not holding my breath either.

Miss Molly on June 22, 2009 at 9:23 PM

Man, are CBS, NBC, and ABC falling all over themselves trying to kiss this guys butt?

kam582 on June 22, 2009 at 8:33 PM

Yes, they are practicing mouth to butt resuscitation because Barry’s poll numbers are cratering.

Rejoice Barry’s Poll numbers are cratering. The thin custard veneer
(spelling courtesy of wikipedia) has encrusted itself and is finally flaking away. Underneath is a Marxist.

Geochelone on June 22, 2009 at 9:26 PM

It’s nice to see Obama climbing up the ladder of “worst president ever” even while he chastises Harry the horrific.

Rovin on June 22, 2009 at 9:26 PM

What do you do if you’re Harry Smith?

You’re visually anonymous, despite decades on national television, due to your complete lack of distinction, brains or talent. And the man whom you’ve been holding up as a God just laughed at you in your stupidity, out loud and on camera, and then called you a liar.

Bad day.

Jaibones on June 22, 2009 at 9:29 PM

Btw, bdswvu – your lack of self-awareness has become the narrative of your time here.

Jaibones on June 22, 2009 at 9:30 PM

Gotta say the man deserves some credit there. He could’ve sat there and just accepted Smith’s characterization but didn’t; it was so ridiculous even the serial Bush-basher laughed. I’d hope CBS would be embarrassed, but they have no shame.

Obama already has coins out – and they are as fake as he is.

Hahaha

And to think people were scared that the Paulians were minting their own gold coins. At least they were worth something

Upstater85 on June 22, 2009 at 8:34 PM

.

It is pretty sad; my wife works part time at a fabric store. One of the products they have now is ‘Obama fleece’ – so you can make your Obama; blankets, throws, pillows, sweatshirts, etc. How sad for America is that.

Dasher on June 22, 2009 at 9:38 PM

Harry is a communist. Next thing you know, Barry will be wanting to appear on FOX News to get away from the crazies!

Griz on June 22, 2009 at 9:38 PM

The hypocrisy of today’s “media” fawning over the President’s every action, (or lack of action) reeks of bias. Where were the stories of George W. on Father’s Day? Where was the national coverage of Laura Bush on Mother’s Day? Does this love affair the media is projecting come with a taxpayer funded bailout as these networks financial woes continue to plummet? While the mainstream media ignores record unemployment figures, a crippling national debt brought on by an uncontrolled government spending spree, and the rising unrest as the world’s dictators raise their ugly heads, our “journalist” insist on producing this Camelot-like adoration over a President that has done little to secure our financial stability while planning to spend trillions more of unfunded debt. The liberals screamed when the Patriot Act was passed to protect this nation from further attack. They made the false claim that our individual liberties were being invaded, (while no evidence of intrusion emerged). Today, no one seems to see the government policies being passed where the federal government will own every aspect of our lives, (an unelected Czar for every program). Instead, we get a media that is neither objective or impartial to a national debate on the direction the Democratic Party is taking this country. This is a dangerous path when our media simply echos and imatates any course of policy by embracing it, endorsing it, and praising it without providing objectivity. While I will not question Mr. Obama’s credentials for being a great father, it’s the media’s integrity and total lack of impartiality that threatens their own existance. Let them reap what they sow.

Rovin on June 22, 2009 at 9:39 PM

Defense of Bush? Nope. A smug attempt to seem gracious. Nothing more.

Obo didn’t defend Bush, he laughed at the absurdity of the comment. This isn’t class; if you want to see class you shouldn’t be watching Demorats.

dcwvu on June 22, 2009 at 8:22 PM

LOL. He didn’t defend Bush. He was protecting himself from an accusation from a respected party that he was engaged in treachery. If Bush ever truly said such a thing, Barry would wet his pants.

dcwvu on June 22, 2009 at 8:22 PM

You are correct in stating that Obama showed class, although EVERYTHING has been this absurd, I don’t understand why he started now. You are wrong that thinking people will attack him for it. It is CBS, with the douche eagerly nodding his head, that deserves the shelling in this case. I’m sure the vast majority here will get it right.

Speedwagon82 on June 22, 2009 at 10:17 PM

Credit where it is due. He was right to reject that characterization.

I’ve always said that Obama is a good and sincere man; it’s his policies that I can’t stand.
