Kids…get out of the house and go catch lightning bugs. Go skin your knees and come home all dirty. Build a treehouse, ride your bicycle around the neighborhood or go shoot hoops down at the park.
You’ll be doing this stuff for the rest of your life…go out and play while you have the chance. It will never come again.

They call that Moshikai kid (wearing a cap) a prodigy? He could barely articulate his position. Does he have a degree from the University of Phoenix Online?

Most developmentalists agree with the idea of multiple intelligences — whereby we have a cognitive intelligence, social intelligence, moral intelligence, spiritual intelligence (well, this one isn’t so agreed on), etc.

The star kid is doomed to an abnormal adult life because his childhood is being spent pimping conservatism. He is already a charicature of himself, he needs a break. Tone it down, do less work. Study more, wait till high school at least. He’s obviously smart and interested… just gotta work on toning it down.

I tested in the genius range at his age, but Krohn is still sharper than I am now. I think if he was commenting here he would put all of us to shame (no offense). He’s just a kid, but I think he’s far better than just about any pro talking head and better than most pundits.
Seriously, do you think you could do better on air like that with no prompter. I know you think you could, but that’s what most people who suck think. He is a prodigy.

That was hysterical. I like that Jonathan Krone. He’s a pistol!
And that little lefty girl and that Moshe mess ought to be shipped out to one of those foreign countries they think is doing so much better than the US. Bon voyage, kids. Don’t rush back.
Well, 2 out of 3 of these kids will be destructive to our nation when they grow up. Yup … that’s the way to make the country better …

Krohn guest co-hosted with Mike Gallagher a month or so ago…he was on air the entire three hours. He actually did very well with the discussions and asking questions of the guests and answering questions from the caller. He even participated in the regular Friday interview of Chris Wallace.

deesine on June 22, 2009 at 11:50 PM
“Spiritual intelligence?” What a pants-load. Run very fast from anyone claiming to have unique spiritual guidance.
There are up to 9 recognized modalities of learning and expressed intellect. Spirituality is not one of them. However, personal/intrapersonal intelligence is considered. I guess spiritualit intellect could be construed as one’s personal intelligence as it relates to God.
The Race Card on June 23, 2009 at 12:00 AM
Only total fools accept this. All they are doing is calling everything “intelligence”, which is stupid. “Moral intelligence”? Don’t make me laugh.
But, if you like this, it’s easy to do. Take any talent or skill and call it “intelligence”. Voila! Someone has “color scheme intelligence” and someone else has “stupidity intelligence” (as someone with lots of stupidity would be categorized in this hair-brained scheme). And there are many with “terrorist intelligence” in the arab/persian/muslim world.
Sheesh.

chaucer55 on June 23, 2009 at 12:22 AM
Now … we want to be serious and scientific about this (BTW, Art has now been reclassified as Model Science … just sayin’).
Pornographic intelligence is a very crude description since it is really comprised of many more finely-tuned aptitudes. There is the Sexual Intelligence of the actors and the Picture Framing Intelligence of the cameramen and the Boom Holding Intelligence of the boom holders and the Janitorial Intelligence of those who clean up afterwards ….
progressoverpeace on June 23, 2009 at 12:22 AM
I think it’s great that there are kids taking an interest in politics at such a young age. Krohn seems like the kind of kid that stands up for what he believes, regardless of popular opinion. We need more leaders and less sheeple.
When Obama destroys this country were going to need an intelligent generation to repair all the damage.
Please God let them all be fiscal conservatives.
redridinghood on June 23, 2009 at 12:42 AM
You are correct, many scholars of development/psychology do not recognize spiritual intelligence.
I’m going with the work of writers like Fowler and Wilber who would include among those recognized developmental lines a spiritual one, describing an unfolding awareness of the absolute.
Some states of consciousness can be trained, and when this involves attention deployment — as many forms of contemplation and meditation do — then these trained states tend to unfold in a sequential fashion. And when they do so, they tend to follow the natural order of gross to subtle to causal to nondual states (see James, or Daniel P. Brown).
When states unfold in some sort of sequence (largely because they are trained), we can call them state-stages (contrasted to structure-stages).
As for these state-stages — which generically move from gross experience to subtle experience to causal experience to nondual — you can open virtually any manual of meditation or contemplation, East or West, and you will find a description of meditative or spiritual experiences unfolding in essentially that order, with quite specifically those general characteristics.
I can think immediately of St. Teresa’s interior castles; the extraordinary cartographies of St. John of the Cross; the meditative cartography of Buddhaghosha’s Visudhimagga; the cartographies of the Church Fathers — such as St. Gregory of Nyssa, Origen, St. Dionysius (whose “way of purification”, “way of illumination”, and “way of unification” is as short and succinct a summary as you will find: purify the gross body via discipline and still the gross mind via concentration; find subtle interior illumination; surrender even illumination in a prayer of quietude and divine ignorance; thereby the soul and God find union in Godhead, one with the radiant all).
deesine on June 23, 2009 at 12:46 AM
It’s not just a matter of intelligence. It’s also a matter of learning to think for yourself. Conservatives do this out of necessity, because they at some point have to go against the accepted thinking they are exposed to in school. Until you reach that point of deciding that something you were taught is actually wrong, you tend as children to accept whatever your teachers tell you.
Every case where the other two children gave non-conservative answers, they were exactly the sort of answers children are usually encouraged to believe in school. Of course we should go to school longer if we want to compete against other nations! Of course Bush destroyed our economy and Obama is just trying to fix it!
But there’s hope. Eventually, these children will run up against a contrary opinion that can’t immediately be dismissed with the predigested pablum they’ve been spoon-fed, and they’ll think through an issue for themselves. Once you realize that not everything you were told in school is correct, you can start really learning.

Krohn needs to roll his shirt sleeves up, then he’ll appear both animated and down in the trenches!
Rusty Shackleford on June 23, 2009 at 12:58 AM
Hey, we got time here, right?
Ever noticed how unevenly developed virtually all of us are? Some are highly developed in, say, logical thinking, but poorly developed in emotional feelings. Some people have highly advanced cognitive development (they’re very smart) but poor moral development (they’re mean and ruthless). Some people excel in emotional intelligence, but they can’t add 2 plus 2.
Howard Gardner made this concept fairly well known using the idea of multiple intelligences. Human beings have a variety of intelligences, such as cognitive, emotional, musical, kinesthetic, and so on.
These can, and are, called developmental lines because the overwhelming amount of data shows growth and development — they unfold in progressive stages.
This explanation, however widespread, may be hair-brained. What’s your model: people just…develop…some fast…others slow?
deesine on June 23, 2009 at 1:11 AM
While I may agree with the 14 year old, hard to say that it is fair that he beat a couple of 11 year olds. Being a father with an 11 year old, debate is not my kid’s strong suit! She does a bang up job, but I still get that uhhh….never thought of that before!

Intelligence is highly overrated. In fact, my impression is that it correlates slightly negative with goodness, or at best no correlation. No data, of course, just an impression formed over the years. Extreme intelligence, like a really bright light, can be useful, but mostly irritating.
bagoh20 on June 23, 2009 at 2:00 AM
Intelligence can be measured in numerous ways. Many books have been written about this very subject.
I find it difficult to argue against intelligence in general. I do question what has been modernly and commonly considered intelligence.
Exhibit A: Our current president
Vanbasten on June 23, 2009 at 2:19 AM

American Elephant on June 23, 2009 at 2:40 AM
You can’t just call any talent or skill, “intelligence”. That is an abuse of the language, and not a very smart thing – as would seem appropriate. Especially, concerning those outrageously subjective areas, such as your examples of “moral development” or “emotional feelings” (which are just emotions, BTW), it is beyond disingenuous to throw the tag “intelligence” on it. The whole point of this “multiple intelligences” junk of Gardner’s was to allow people, who are not intelligent, call themselves “intelligent”.
This is the classic theoretical use of affirmative action. Frankly, I am offended by those who would abuse our language, and our good nature, by even proposing such drivel. It is an attack on the English language, itself, the same way they try to destroy all meaning in law. I don’t like it.
Intelligence is the very specific ability to consciously understand, manipulate, or create logical, formal systems. That’s it. There are different facets to that, but within those limits. Idiot savants are not “intelligent”, in their processes are not available to their consciousnesses. Painters are not “intelligent” because they can reproduce or create scenes. Basketball players are not “intelligent” because their brain can calculate the accurate speed and trajectory of the ball to score. They do not have conscious access to those calculations, or even how they are done.
You truly dishonor the language with such a smearing of the word, “intelligence”, until it has no meaning left in it, and therefore, no one has to worry about feeling bad because of not having it.
