That apparently didn’t sink in at Fox News, which reported the development as Britain “bailing” on Iran, as reported by Telegraph journalist Toby Harnden. In the first place, the embassy staff will remain in place, which means Britain isn’t “bailing” at all. Removal of non-essential personnel during large-scale unrest is standard operating procedure for diplomatic services, and assigning that even a hint of cowardice — which “bailing seems to imply — is grossly unfair.

This is why I like you guys so much, Ed. You’re willing to take either side of the aisle to task when it’s necessary. Your post on Sotamayor’s supposed link to the sub-prime crisis is another example of that.

The EU has been impressive in Iran and has been willing to speak up against the Iranian gov’t unlike Barry. We should really commend our friends in Old and New Europe for their efforts. If Dinner Jacket and Khamenei win, which sadly seems likely, the EU should take tough steps against Iran including pulling all staff out of their embassies, refusing to accept the current gov’t as legitimate, and placing tough sanctions on Iran (including travel sanctions against President Crazy and upper ranking Iranian officials). As a punishment for stealing elections and brutual crackdowns on protestors, President Crazy shouldn’t be allowed to travel to ~~Holocaust denial conferences~~ anti-racism conferences in Switzerland. We can also demand that our institutions (i.e. Columbia university) not invite President Crazy to give any more crazy fanatic talks when he comes to the UN next year.
