“America’s position in the world is one of moral leadership. It’s not about what takes place in the streets of Iran. It is about what takes place in America’s conscience.”

I have to agree. This tripe about “America’s conscience” sounds like it’s from the Obama camp. If he had been in Truman’s shoes in 1945 the Bomb would have stayed in New Mexico and tens (maybe hundreds) of thousands more Americans would have died needlessly.
Liberals seem to completely ignore the lessons of the American Revolution — it embodies everything they oppose. Liberty, self-determination, free-enterprise, tax revolt, self-defense, the right bear arms, resistance against a tyrannical government. Hence the push to “remake” the USA into a Socialist utopia.
infidel4life on June 21, 2009 at 11:33 PM
Heh. Scary in its truth.
progressoverpeace on June 21, 2009 at 11:37 PM
Krauthammer and Geraldo represent the conservative and liberal minds well. Charles is logical and intelligent. Geraldo has “feelings” and emotion.
Star20 on June 21, 2009 at 11:37 PM
So apparently Obama doesn’t represent well… You know, lack of scripted empathy…
Upstater85 on June 21, 2009 at 11:40 PM
I think I figured whats making the POTUS so cowardly, he’s afraid that if he supports the protesters and they win a new election, Americans will ask for a do over here too.
When the going gets tough this Pres. gets ice cream.
Arrogance is defined by: too cool for school.
Speakup on June 21, 2009 at 11:40 PM
Geraldo loves America? Is that why he supports La Raza and Mecha? He only loves his face on tv.
chicagojedi on June 21, 2009 at 11:44 PM
Jeraldo’s claim that the Shah was not liked by his people shows what an utter idiot he is when it comes to knowing what he is talking about.
The Shah was hugely popular in both Iran and the middle east prior to the smear and propoganda campaign funded and waged by the Carter administration.

What’s with all the guys in the background? Skimmed the comments so maybe someone’s already explained it..

Fool…..
Dear Mr Barry,
Americans are practical folks. Having all the T’s crossed and I’s dotted is fine and dandy but that sure as hell doesn’t mean you, and the military, are fully prepared for all contingencies. Valley Forge, Boston Common, the Sacking of Washington, Bull Run, Little Big Horn, the Marne, China Station, Pearl Harbor, Manila, the Asian Pacific Fleet, Kasserine, Guadalcanal, the Yalu River, Chosin Reservoir, Phu Bai, and the U.S.S. Cole. I’m sure their CICs and their military commanders had all their T’s crossed and all their I’s dotted.
Didn’t do them a damn bit of good when the enemy read from a book that didn’t contain any T’s or I’s in it.
You are just another arrogant SOB who believes the enemy must react the way you plan for him to react. History’s dustbin is full of folks like that.
Limerick on June 22, 2009 at 12:05 AM
So Geraldo is a jerk.
Tell us something we don’t know.
It would be great to see him UNDER the bus.
Sapwolf on June 22, 2009 at 12:08 AM
That reminded me of Obama swattin the fly. :)

I have a lot of respect for CK but I also lost so to. The way CK dunps on Gov. Palin just show how much of a DC elite he is. Case in point the VP debate. CK just cannot stand Gov. Palin and that is a shame. I just don’t think CK understand what Gov. Palin is all about.
Clyde5445 on June 22, 2009 at 12:24 AM
Sorry about the spelling.
Clyde5445 on June 22, 2009 at 12:26 AM
Well put probressoverpeace, lays it out in a way that I understand now what has been bothering me so much about it.
Alana on June 22, 2009 at 12:31 AM
CK ain’t perfect, Clyde (and, as a CK myself, I feel uniquely qualified to say so). He’s a national resource, but fallible like all of us. His political play by play during the campaign struck me as flawed, and, like most of us, once he enunciates a position, he’s reluctant to switch on it, and tends to show his vexation with whoever may be involved when one of his predictions doesn’t work out. He made a snap judgment about the Palin selection, making the rather ridiculous argument that McCain had sacrificed the main justification for his candidacy, supposedly his experienced leadership or some such. I’d have to check back through the record to find CK’s exact words. I believe he amended his remarks in the wake of the GOP convention, but I’m not sure he ever forgave Palin for boosting the ticket against his prognostications.
She’ll remain a hard sell for him for a long time, I fear, not because she proved him wrong and exposed some weaknesses in his analytical skills, but because I suspect it makes his skin crawl when an individual who desires to be taken seriously uses the word “whomever” incorrectly.
Nothing succeeds like success, however. If she makes a mark for herself on the national scene, I think he’ll forgive her, though at some point he’ll take revenge if he gets the opportunity, slipping some wittily snide criticism into an otherwise supportive, widely cited statement… and she’ll take it to heart and get her whoevers and whomevers sorted out near perfectly from then on.

Geraldo has been owned!
mizflame98 on June 22, 2009 at 1:00 AM
The very thought of comparing Krauthammer to Obama is like
a Phd. vs. a 1st grader. No way. One has complete knowledge of history, economics, world affairs, and geography, for Pete’s sakes, and the other one just makes stuff up with the full endorsement of the media. I know now that I live in pure lunatic land, because it has been
reinforced constantly. It is now no-holds barred banana-whacky.
I only have moments of solace when I see Charles on Special
Report, plus the many great people who contribute to Hot Air.
betsyz on June 22, 2009 at 1:16 AM
Before we totally shred Geraldo to pieces, I would like to point out that he has been doing a great job with BOR, (who can be a pill), in protecting children from abuses. Geraldo was involved with the calling of attention to many cases where children had been severely abused, or murdered. Give the devil a tad bit of credit.
Resume the stoning.
Krauthammer to me is a flashback to our Founding Fathers. I think they would have loved the guy! He says more in 30 seconds than most do in a lifetime! I do not always agree with him, but he causes one to think. In this discussion he was beyond correct. So was Ann.
freeus on June 22, 2009 at 1:45 AM
i’m with you, betsy. HA and select portions of fox news are the only things saving me from utter despair sometimes.
CK is a national treasure, and i am a huge fan.
homesickamerican on June 22, 2009 at 1:51 AM
My pure fantasy would be for Charles Krauthammer to take the place of Obama for just one frigging day!!!
betsyz on June 22, 2009 at 1:51 AM
What I like about Krauthammer is that he is a humble thinker, offering opinion based on history, instinct and heart. He may not always be right, but he never forces he just offers.
What I don’t like about Geraldo is that, while he may be a thinker, he reacts first and seems to forget history altogether. His instincts appear weak. All I can think of is Al Capone’s vault.
Miss Molly on June 22, 2009 at 2:03 AM
I’m with you on “select portions” because
the open-mindedness is narrowing, even on Fox. But, t.v. is t.v.–stations can only sustain themselves when they get the advertising. That’s the problem. With Obama being the main character in today’s news, only the foolish would allow an entire network to criticize him for prolonged periods. I pretty much gave up on O’Reilly when he had Obama on, and fawned and collapsed in the mere presence of this insect. McCain has done, and still does the same thing. What is with these people??? I wouldn’t walk across an alley to even get a glimpse of this person. And
maybe that’s the exact reason for his otherwise perverse
popularity…when you are in his presense, all of a sudden,
you are witless and adoring….that’s the catch??
betsyz on June 22, 2009 at 2:12 AM
He did it the other day when he was commenting on FNC about the dust up between Gov Palin and Letterman. Basically saying that he felt the Gov should have just ignored Letterman’s comments and focused instead on building her political gravitas and minimising the media focus on her family. Which CK believes is a distraction that is preventing her from becoming a real contender for higher office.
Dreadnought223 on June 22, 2009 at 2:21 AM
Wow! This diplomacy stuff is hard. Do I support people risking their lives to bring about a democracy or do I support a tyrannical puppet dictator?
It doesn’t really surprise me Obama would not want to condemn a governing structure that keeps power with a false election…are you?
lwssdd on June 22, 2009 at 2:37 AM
Great point!!! Although in today’s world EVERYTHING appears to be a distraction from some other distraction.. As an example: Just a few short weeks ago, many of us were wondering just who was on that Air Force One jet when it skimmed Manhattan?? Many reporters promised to get the bottom of this. Crickets.

ladyingray on June 22, 2009 at 7:02 AM
Krauthammer and McCain are both right.
And that nonsense about the Shah is just that. The socalled coup that Giraldo references was more than half a century ago and was part and parcel of the cold war. It was a lot more complicated than Giraldo seems to think, but that has nothing to do with is. If it matters at all today, it only makes it more important that we support the will of the Iranian people.
Terrye on June 22, 2009 at 7:07 AM
John McCain’s comments are right and reflect that he is an knowledgeable and experienced hand concerning foreign policy, military matters and national security. Obama is a novice with respect to foreign policy, military matters and national security and has other priorities anyway — insanely reckless multi-trillion dollar deficit spending and bringing on socialism.
America made a mistake last November. America did not have foreign policy in mind, and while there were economic concerns, America did not have socialism in mind as the solution.
Phil Byler on June 22, 2009 at 7:23 AM
That makes two of us. I like her and think that there is a prominent place for her in the party but when it comes to discussing stuff like the US response to what is going on in Iran or North Korea, I’d rather have that discussion with CK instead of Palin.
highhopes on June 22, 2009 at 7:26 AM
You know, one of the annoying things about events that happened thirty years ago and the tendency of the media to dumb down the news is that the context is completely ignored.
First the US supported the Shah and armed Iran which used those weapons on Iraq. Then, after the Iranian Revolution, there was a period of time when the US was supporting Iraq which used those weapons against Iran. Then, there was a period of time when the US really didn’t support either Iran or Iraq and they both were getting weapons from Russia.
The point is this. Yes, diplomacy is hard but I would remind you that the US has supported repressive regimes in Iran and Iraq as well as other places around the globe. Because of our history in Iran, it isn’t unreasonable for the US to use measured words in response to what is going on. Nevertheless, it is clear that America will be blamed by the Mullahs anyway so the filthy liar in the White House should be far less timid than he has been in supporting the protesters over the existing regime.
highhopes on June 22, 2009 at 7:35 AM
Because Mossadeq was a large part of the wholesale theft of the oil fields in the Iranian forced nationalizations – stealing an industry that they did nothing but watch others build and maintain. This is the sort of stuff that most would consider an act of war. I certainly do.
For what it’s worth, the POS court at The Hague ruled that Iran’s national theft of others’ property and voiding of contracts on a whim were legal. But … that’s what you get with empowered, peerless, competionless entities.
I just thought I’d throw this in, for a little background.
progressoverpeace on June 22, 2009 at 7:51 AM
i’m not suggesting that the pics & tweets were are receiving from Iran are fake. but i know that i don’t know everything that is going on over there. I suspect that McCain & bambi don’t know everything either.
however, if the mullahs & achmedinejad are going to blame us anyway, why don’t we sound more “rah-rah” for the young “freedom fighters?”

I think you would be surprised just how much savagery and death isn’t being reported because of the media clampdown.
If the Iranian crisis were a relatively peaceful affair, there would be no reason to restrict the media.
Bishop on June 22, 2009 at 8:02 AM
Anyone expecting Obama to actually DO anything other than make a speech hasn’t done their research. Obama has NEVER done anything other than make speeches, while others do the work. Now he’s actually forced to MAKE a decision on supporting regime change in Iran and it scares hell out of him. He’ll be ON RECORD, which is something he avoids like the plague.
He could ALWAYS say “Bush did it” or “I inherited this mess” and half the nation would let him skate.
bradley11 on June 22, 2009 at 8:08 AM
I agree with you HH. But in the new America, your actual choice might be to have that conversation with either the Rev. Al or Sarah Palin–in fact, that’s what we’ve got. I’m sure that’s not lost on CK either, and that he cast his vote appropriately, if without gusto.
JiangxiDad on June 22, 2009 at 8:22 AM
True, and furthermore there would not have been any reason to have had the media blacked out unless:
A: The government there knew something was coming that they could not afford to have seen by the world, and;
B: The government knew that the truth about the situation would not be favorible to their cause.
MikeA on June 22, 2009 at 8:25 AM
Actually when it comes to Iran, the real culprit is Jimmy Carter not GWB. Had Carter not so thoroughly botched relations with Iran in the 1970s much of the subsequent history in that part of the world might have been far different.
The USS Samuel B. Roberts might not have been struck by an Iranian Mine. The USS Vincennes might not have been involved in shooting down an Iranian airliner. The Iran-Iraq war would have been bloody but a strictly “local” event.
highhopes on June 22, 2009 at 8:28 AM
Reminds me of the group they had discussing the Iranian protests on FNC Saturday afternoon. Geraldo, Al Sharpton, Wesley Clark, and Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum. Clark was the closest to having any experience in international affairs and he’s so ignorant he makes Joe Biden seem intelligent!

Tell CK that’s why presidents have secretaries of state. The president is not a know it all about everything kinda person. They should have the best people around them so they can make informed decisions. I’m sure Gov. Palin applies this style of governance in Ak and will in DC. There’s been too many movies and tv shows about how brilliant presidents are or how stupid, presented by the msm that everybody expects it. Ever see the picture of O sitting at a table with 40 other people?

I met a doctor from “Persia” as he called it, when the Shah was eventually overthrown, the intellectuals, the educated left Iran, leaving a generation of illiterates running the country…only the “elitists” remained, mainly professors at the university, religious leaders, and bureaucrats, and of course the uneducated.
Similar to the huge support Obama received from the un-educated, and the educated elites.
As this doctor was leaving they demanded his gold wedding ring…he gave it to them and stated, “But you can’t take this”, pointing to his head.
right2bright on June 22, 2009 at 8:59 AM
Out of curiosity, since so little has been spoken about her actual answers to question like this.
How do you know her resolution would not be the “right” one?
Every time I have heard her discussion of foreign policy, I find her very informed.
right2bright on June 22, 2009 at 9:04 AM
Obama has been handed an opportunity on a sliver platter thanks to the policy of the Bush Administration and he can’t figure out how to capitalize on it? Really this is Jimmy Carter’s second term. Bill Clinton would know what to do with a gift like this for foreign and domestic consumption. We truly have amateurs running this country. Progressive means: all morals are always relative. I can’t wait for our own elections in 2010. I can’t stand “Progressives” which as they remind us is not like a Liberal but YES they are like Socialist.
21% of Voting Americans, identify Liberal of that 21% only a small segment identify Progressive, and those are the tools running things right now….well running things into the ground.

scalleywag on June 22, 2009 at 10:36 AM
Gerlado the dummy must think he can get a nice gig on MSNBC or CNN; thus, the Obama water carrying. He is about as convincing as a typical Obamist.
Here’s the contradiction at the core of the Obamatrocity: His heroic speech in Cairo gave rise to the new revolution in Iran. That’s all he needs to do to incite the revolution. That’s like our founding fathers mailing the Declaration of Independence to the king and expecting liberation to arrive on the next ship.
Intellectually lazy, lousy leadership.

pabarge on June 22, 2009 at 11:42 AM
Krauthammer vs Geraldo is too painful. Geraldo is foolish enough by himself.
Iran wants what President Bush brought to Iraq. Obama withers in the shadow of that man.

Thank for serving McCain, now please retire! Leave, go, exit…!
byteshredder on June 22, 2009 at 12:46 PM
Speaking from experience; McCain is displaying dementia, for someone in his level of management.
Cybergeezer on June 22, 2009 at 6:49 PM
Well to all of you conservatives who wouldn’t “compromise your principles” by VOTING in this last election, how stupid do you feel when you watch this? Pretty stupid, I hope.
This is McCain at his best & when it came to national security there was no question he would get this right, as opposed to Obuttwipe who has gotten NOTHING right. Just as a reminder, when we get national security wrong not a whole lot else really matters, does it?
Maybe you’ll get off your *sses & vote next time, that is if we still have a country left to vote IN.
Thank you & have a nice day.

I guess it was removed by the the McCain police due to lack of interest. Sorry, you snooze you lose on HotAir!
