Poll: What was the Obamateurism of the Week?

posted at 11:08 am on June 21, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Time to pick the Obamateurism of the week, and we have a full slate of choice Obamateurisms from which to choose.  Fill in the dot on the right — er, the left — corresponding to your choice.  If you can’t be resolution — er, resolute — in your choice, well, that’s understandable.  You could always ask for some help from the government; after all, look how well that worked for GM!  After hearing the speech in Cairo, though, your mind should already be clear, and your local tyranny on the run.  If you still can’t make a decision, get a few of your closest allies together, and then refuse to show up in order to show solidarity with unions instead.  Trust Obama — that works wonders!

Previous “winners”:

  • Flashing his soles to the camera while talking to Netanyahu
  • “If you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.”
  • “We can no longer afford to spend as if deficits do not matter and waste is not our problem.”
  • Siccing Tim Geithner and Charlie Rangel on tax cheats
  • Phony Churchill quote on torture throws Grandpa under the bus
  • Torture probe flip-flop
  • Obama covers up IHS while quoting Jesus
  • Austrian is a language?
  • Obama bows to the Saudi king
  • 1908 Model T got better gas mileage than today’s SUVs

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Good choices all around, but nothing smells as much like “over your head” as the rush to tie the Iranian election to the speech in Cairo.

Guess the ice-cream run didn’t get in under the wire.

Agreed. That was a fine display of Orrogance…

i like the gm one, the twisted logic is the prize.

rob verdi on June 21, 2009 at 11:16 AM

I figure given current events, the “change in Iran” one will catch on nicely. However, the story about the HMS Resolution Resolute seems to have become an unintentional, light running gag with this POTUS, so it gets my vote.

apostic on June 21, 2009 at 11:16 AM

Change in Iran coming because “Obviously, after the speech I made in Cairo…”

This was the only choice that had the word “I” in it. And since everything is always about Obama, this seemed the obvious choice.

Monday’s, probably.

Ed Morrissey on June 21, 2009 at 11:17 AM

The Cairo speech? Come-on peeps. That was expected from the Man from Sunset Boulevard. Now the ‘Resolution’ Desk. That was the phoooooooobah that sent Buckingham Palace into stitches.

A lot more than just his ice cream is melting this week. Drip, drip, drip…

Custard’s last stand?

As usual, so hard to choose, but the Cairo thing was really bad.

Bob's Kid on June 21, 2009 at 11:22 AM

If it’s good, it’s 0 flying in to save the day. The sun rises in the east thanks to the 0bamessiah. If it’s bad, he inherited it. Childish.

I was gone most of this week. But I did my patriotic duty and voted for #5.

Another great weak for the eunuch…

RalphyBoy on June 21, 2009 at 11:39 AM

This is a tough one Ed. U.S.G.M. or The Speech? I have to think about this one.

Cindy Munford on June 21, 2009 at 11:44 AM

His comments about Iran were both dangerous and irresponsible.

jbh45 on June 21, 2009 at 11:54 AM

Can I vote for ‘All of the above’?

Actually I think the Obamateurism Of The Week is:

Sitting on his hands and refusing to take sides in the Iranian election chaos, seeing all sides as equal (like a true gutless lawyer-politician) so he won’t voice his opinion in case the side he backs loses.

In other words, wanting to be on the side of the winners and not losing ‘friends’.

rockbend on June 21, 2009 at 11:56 AM

Barry needs to see an optometrist. You know, for his “I” trouble. Anybody else sick of seeing and hearing him on television ALL the freakin’ time!? I have worn out my remote switching between channels to try to find someplace where he is not. Like Super Chicken, “He’s everywhere! He’s everywhere!”

Proud Texan on June 21, 2009 at 11:59 AM

IMHO, one thing is missing from every week’s poll…… “Getting out of bed Monday morning, thinking he’s actually wanted and accepted as POTUS.”

Cheers !

Is there anyone anymore un-American than Obama that has been President?

BetseyRoss on June 21, 2009 at 12:03 PM

Making a show of going out for ice cream while Youtube video of an Iranian woman being shot in cold blood as her father watches goes viral….That’s gotta be added to the list for next week.

Now of course the Iran one just shows his arrogance, which isn’t the least bit surprising, so I had to go with America going the GM went… Because isn’t that his way of saying he is going to try and make us socialist?

ConservadorRebelde on June 21, 2009 at 12:18 PM

I vote for what he didn’t say. That was the biggest screw up of the week.

bagoh20 on June 21, 2009 at 12:22 PM

Ed:

is there a way to have multiple votes….there’s too many to choose from. there’s usually at least 2 that are totally deserving.

r keller on June 21, 2009 at 12:22 PM

Actually, Barack could bring home a sack full of ingredients: milk, sugar, cream, flavors.

The kids throw it in a bowl and stir it around.

Then they call for Michelle to be let into the kitchen to see what they’ve created.

The concoction freezes instantly.

Hubris over stupidity any day of the week.

fronclynne on June 21, 2009 at 1:11 PM

I wouldn’t call the Cairo thing an amateurism because it falls right in line with Democrat’s routine of taking credit for successes they had nothing to do with, and blaming others for their failings.the GM one though,is golden.–”I’m from the government and I’m here to help.”

E T Cartman on June 21, 2009 at 12:01 PM

But he thinks that he’s doing a fine job. He really has no idea yet what his job is. Give it a year, when no one – I mean, no one! – is even listening to him anymore; then he’ll wonder.

is there a way to have multiple votes…

r keller on June 21, 2009 at 12:22 PM

Ya gotta make the tough choices; otherwise it’s like voting ‘present’.

ss396 on June 21, 2009 at 2:50 PM

This pansy is getting facilitated by any one connected with him; It’s the story of his life and will continue well beyond his FAILED PRESIDENCY!
His media will record him as such a success. But, the American People know better.

Cybergeezer on June 21, 2009 at 4:03 PM

Obama implying that his Cairo speech had any impact on anybody anywhere in any measurable degree whatsoever is so purely Obama.

Obama — self-referential, self-absorbed, self-obsessed and completely useless when a hard decision is needed.

cruadin on June 21, 2009 at 6:02 PM

Wow!

“obviously, after the speech that I made in Cairo, we tried to send a clear message that we think there is the possibility of change.”

I didn’t know he actually said that!

Considering the Obama apologist have been crying for the last week, that Obama’s “none recognition” of the events in Iran is intended to “not give any validity” to a claim of America medalling, kinda sorta hard to make when Obama, on Friday, takes credit of the election results in Iran?

This is beyond even BoZO land.

DSchoen on June 21, 2009 at 6:31 PM

We look forward to these every day and weekend. Sad that there still never seems to be a day without an Obamateurism, isn’t it?

ctmom on June 21, 2009 at 8:09 PM

I was torn between the resolution desk and the speech in Cairo. I went with the speech, because it’s so typical of our completely self-centered and narcissistic CIC.
