Well well, isn’t our insignificant little Canuck Troll getting pissy nowadays. He’s not even your president and yet his screw-up after screw-up is starting to show on you like more and more O Voters on this side of the border. Suck on it, socialist.

From an old Caps Quarters post:

“Yes I’m a Canadian commenting on something happening outside my borders. I know that’s hard for you to believe, since most Americans know nothing about anything outside theirs.”

Dave’s favorite ice cream flavor is rasberry solipsism. (nuts and cherrys are optional)

It won’t be long that when Obama, Rahm and company get done with the American economy no one will be going out for ice cream. We might be rioting in the streets looking for food. Pray for the people of Iran taking a stand against evil powerful people (you know, the same kind that are taking over our government and country!)

Obama is just showing solidarity with the ice-cream licking terrorist Uighers in Bermuda.

profitsbeard on June 20, 2009 at 7:48 PM

I guess Obama wants to get some ice cream before he raises taxes on “unhealthy” foods. I wonder if he mentioned to the ice cream parlor that his policies will probably put them out of business?

hawksruleva on June 20, 2009 at 7:48 PM

You cannot possibly be so stupid as to believe that Obama hasn’t been briefed a great, great great deal already. But then again, maybe you are, just like all the other soggy pantsed outrageheads around here.

And now, the grousing about the ice cream trip during a crisis in another country is more justified? Less petty and mindless? Hmmm.

Midas on June 20, 2009 at 7:36 PM

I think you’re misunderstanding, somewhat.

None of this rage over ice cream trips is serious. Who cares if he went out with his kids for ice cream?

Here’s the issues:

#1: He’s done nothing about the situation in Iran. It took forever for him to issue the blandest of statements on the situation.

#2: If he can’t piss off our allies, foreign policy seems not to interest him much at all.

#3: If this were Bush, you KNOW the news stories we would be seeing. Don’t lie to yourself now. The next week would be full of headlines about how the forces of freedom in Iran died while Bush licked his sprinkles.

#4: We’re tired of the fawning over Obama’s every last move. CBS reporter following an ice-cream run, and bubbling over it, comes right off of days of hearing about his inhuman reflexes in saving humanity from a fly.

Put all of those together, and you’ve got a little frustration bubbling to the surface. Sorry if you’re not in tune with that, but I certainly feel a little bile rising into my throat.

12thMonkey on June 20, 2009 at 7:51 PM

And in six weeks or so when the dust settles in Iran, Obama will have a solid opinion. Till then, ice-cream (soft serve) seems about right.

RalphyBoy on June 20, 2009 at 7:53 PM

This event was probably planned a while ago as part of the PR run-up to Barry’s big Father’s Day Special airing tomorrow.

The “optics,” as they say inside the Beltway, are bad. Barry and his girls could’ve made homemade sundaes in the White House–away from the cameras–but then he wouldn’t be seen showing off his awesomely awesome dad-ness.

Its not just that, its the complete indifference to the situation.

He is not in command.
He does not appear to be in command.
He doesn’t care if he appears to be lackadaisical and indifferent.
Never demonstrated that he CAN command effectively.

When a person is actually a leader it shows. Actions speak louder than words, always have, always will.

Bozo’s just showing us what he’s made of. I’m not outraged /shrug, just pretty sad that our electorate put this guy in the driver’s seat.

WordsMatter on June 20, 2009 at 7:58 PM

I found this video enormously sad, and ended up watching it over and over.

From what I understand, she wasn’t even a protester, at least not an active one, and was apparently simply a bystander.

She looks… surprised, mostly. As if she didn’t quite understand what had happened. You can see her eyes catch the person with the camera just as it comes around to view her. And then the blood comes from her mouth.

Her hands seem to be grasping for the other hands around her. I guess her father was there, and perhaps those were his hands she was reaching for.

I wonder if she knew what had happened.

Curiously, I was also wondering who she was and what she was doing this morning. And what she was planning on doing tomorrow.

Did anyone seem to notice that there are 24 hours in a day and that maybe he took a break to take his DAUGHTERS out for ice cream just to spend a weeee bit of time with them (God Forbid). And I’m sure that small time away from work to take his DAUGHTERS out for ice cream was the exact amount of time needed to solve the crisis in Iran.

Did you all not have a hissy fit over how petty, stupid, and hysterical it was that the Left was harping on Bush reading a book to kiddies after learning about 9/11 or playing a guitar while New Orleans was swimming with the fishies?

Bush got caught off guard by the 9/11 attacks and, when the facts became known, he reacted.

The Iran situation has been going on for a while now and, as of yesterday, everyone knew that there was potential for something big to happen there today.

If Obama wants to spend a quiet (i.e. no cameras) father’s day with his kids, that’s one thing, but the optics of going for ice cream while the situation in Iran develops is – at the very least – bad optics. He seems to think that the presidency is a 9 to 5 job.

landshark on June 20, 2009 at 8:35 PM

Well, we know it’s bad when they call Shep Smith into Fox News and pre-emp Huckabee. It matters not a twit what Obama is doing about this, how much time he devotes to actually thinking/doing anything about it. We are not going to give any encouragement to the people protesting.

He gave the people of Iran no hope with his speech about Islamic women in the U.S. and how they’re ‘free’ to wear a tent. He gave the men no hope by kowtowing to the various Islamic leaders in a subservient manner. Something not said is sometimes more powerful than what is said.

He just wants the world to get along, and wait for his glorius worldwide rise to power.

You’re missing the point: all he does is “take breaks”. Wednesdays are for shindigs, Sundays for golf, Saturdays are date nights.

Real pattern here. Let’s not forget this episode when he was in the White House for barely 2 weeks:

On a tough day, Obama escapes for a while

We were just tired of being in the White House,” the president candidly told the gleeful second-graders at Capital City Public Charter School.

“We got out! They let us out!” Mrs. Obama said as the kids and their teachers laughed.

No one is complaining about the ice cream. It is the contracts of what is happening in the world and what is reported in the MSM. I don’t expect him to be hunched over the red phone 24/7 but he has been basically AWOL in this crisis.

That is understandable. However here is the problem. All of you that are critical of him want him to do an say what you want exactly how you want it and when you want it or it is not legitimate and you assume you know exactly what is gong on behind the scenes and that you have ALL the information.

The Left did this EXACT same thing with President Bush. And I couldn’t stand it!

Perhaps Obama was waiting to speak until he got briefed of the situation or was sure what the dynamics where and how it would play out before opening his mouth about something he might not have all info about. This is not a new concept. We have no clue what meetings he has been in or what planning is going on behind the scenes. What don’t know what intelligence he is getting or what is being coordinating and for when.

The State Department stepped in on Twitter to keep their communications going specifically for Iranians to be able to communicate outside of the regime. Obama has made numerous statements in support of the Iranian people. But short of dropping and actual bomb on Iran nothing is going to be good enough.

I can’t wait for tomorrow when he is run over the coals for spending some time with his daughters for father’s day.

There is a complaint that the Left thinks Obama is a super hero, but it seems Conservatives and the Right think he is suppose to be one too but he is letting them down.

Perception is everything but it must be met with rationality. Remember when everyone flipped out over Brown mustard on a burger? I have some in my fridge and I paid 69cents at a run down Spanish grocery for it. Whoa that’s elite and fancy!

This is definitely ODS.

And yes I will take my Troll designation if so be it.

It isn’t about not eating ice cream or taking breaks or spending times with the kids. What a President does publicly sends a message at time like this. Bush was ripped to shreds for supposedly doing nothing during Katrina,,, even though he did everything right!
Obama goes out publicly for ice cream while Iranians are being slaughtered in the streets protesting a corrupt government and a fraudulent election,,, something every American President should be concerned with for any number of reasons. Some people may be hanging on threads of hope that maybe just maybe an American President might do something some way to rescue them!! Isn’t fighting for freedom and liberty a core American value???? Is it really that hard to understand???
Presidents are suppose to have a brain. They are suppose to understand that all they do publicly is watched! Obama could have all the ice cream he wanted delivered to the White House! Going out for ice cream publicly while the streets of Iran are running with blood,,, while a nation may just possibly be on the verge of revolution,, a change in government that could effect the entire middle east,,,and he does out for ice cream????? Does he even realize what he is doing??? Is he that self absorbed, just plain stupid or is he indeed sending the message he wants to send???! That message being,, I don’t care!

I don’t think you are a troll, you make a good point. Obama needs to have time with his kids and take breaks from the world, but what gets me is that he apparently has no political sense of how this appears. I thought he was supposed to be brilliant. He can have ice cream with his kids somewhere in the White House, anywhere in the White House, but to go to a public place while this is going on in Iran is simply not smart. Especially when you look at way he has handled the whole affair, or not handled the whole affair.

kam582 on June 20, 2009 at 9:13 PM

Talk about timing. If Bush had done this the left would be having an eye ball popping catterwalling hissy fit. But Obama??? Well it is not as if the same rules that apply to right wingers apply to The One.

makes me sick. What a moron.

Magnus on June 20, 2009 at 8:58 PM

I think you missed some points here. Obama is more than welcome to take his children out for ice cream. He’s a good father for doing so. The MEDIA, however, should not be tagging along with their tongues flopping on the sidewalk thinking they have just gotten the best “scoop” in their career (pardon my pun) when there is a major catastrophe going on. THAT’s disgusting. It makes a mockery of a serious situation. They’ll never figure that out. How do you think that makes the Iranians feel, though, that the media is more interested in what flavor of ice cream the US president and his daughters are having than how a brutal regime is beating its own people with batons and shooting them on the streets? And had it not been for Obama’s silence and flippant attitude about this dire situation…had he come out and said what he said today IN THE FIRST PLACE, no one would have much reason to criticize him today. In short, he blew it.

scalleywag on June 20, 2009 at 9:14 PM

Magnus”

Oh please. If this guy wanted to have ice cream with his kids, he could have done that in the White House, sans photo op.

Terrye on June 20, 2009 at 9:16 PM

And yes I will take my Troll designation if so be it.

Magnus on June 20, 2009 at 8:58 PM

You [sir, madam, or gender non specific] are not a troll.
You are an apologist, an enabler who defends your guy because he is your guy, not for any other reason or principle.

If Obama wanted ice cream, the White House kitchen has it.
What Obama wanted was to be seen on TV. and perhaps wanted to run away and hide from the chaos in the White House.

I still need a crises czar

DSchoen

A Crisis Czar!! See,,,?? That’s why he hasn’t been too involved yet. He hasn’t appointed a Crisis Czar!!
I posted awhile back he needs to just appoint himself as Leader Czar so he’d no longer have to pretend to be accountable to anyone else but himself.

JellyToast on June 20, 2009 at 9:17 PM

I think the problem is that O thinks he can spend most of the day managing his image via the media, but part of his job is dealing with the unexpected. At that moment its time to put the image building crap on hold and deal with the issue at hand. I generally get the feeling that these “crisis” are irritating to him since they distract from the message he wants to put out there.

Magnus on June 20,

Tell it to the dead and dying in the streets of Iran.

JellyToast on June 20, 2009 at 9:19 PM

Magnus:

How that looked? How did it look when the buses Mayor Nagin ignored went under water? I can remember Bush going on TV two days before Katrina hit and telling the people of the Gulf Coast to leave the area. What was the Governor of Louisiana doing?

Bush took hell for not finding some place to land in LA a day after the hurricane and just doing a flyover…but he knew what was going on and he made sure the Coast Guard was out there doing their job. Too bad the Democrats who run the state did not do the same.

Terrye on June 20, 2009 at 9:21 PM

I personally am sick and tired of the media portraying us Americans as a bunch of blithering idiots who would rather hear about what kind of dessert our dear leader is having than what’s going on in the world around us. It’s insulting. No wonder we have a rotten reputation abroad.

scalleywag on June 20, 2009 at 9:22 PM

So essentially he is giving the oppressive regime in Iran a pass as a professional courtesy? I’d say there is some truth in that considering the fact that the filthy liar in the White House has acted like a third-world dictator from the beginning.

highhopes on June 20, 2009 at 9:22 PM

Magnus,
I doubt the reaction of people like me would be quite as disgusted if the man’s performance as POTUS were different to date.

I see this photo op (right or wrong) for ice cream the same as the burger photo ops, just more face time for Bama to be on TV. I don’t see him wanting to hide off with his kids and focus on them to the exclusion of the outside world.

Had his words been any more supportive to the protesters, I might excuse this latest photo op.

As it is, the man is running true to form. The emptiest vessel makes the most noise, and he wins the kewpie doll for the last week.

The Iranian protesters will get the right message from this little escapade…Bama cares nothing for what they are doing, and the mullahs will know they can do what they want with little to risk from this naif.

Methinks Bama would prefer to have the level of control over citizens in this country as the mullahs and Hugo Chavez do over theirs. Certainly he could be firing IG’s with less blowback.

Eff this imposter. I suppose he is trying to do better than his father did for his kids, than his father did for him, but he is doing crap all for millions of kids in this country with his policies.

Hey, didn’t Obama also do that when Russia invaded Georgia last year. As I recall, he was in Hawaii and went out for shaved ice and bodysurfing. This is the brilliant temperament that everybody raved about.

And this was in his own country and own people!

So let’s stop with the faux outrage

Magnus on June 20, 2009 at 9:12 PM

Let’s see…Bush was visiting a military installation (official Govt business)…Already had the wheels in motion to aid Katrina victims…most of the Katrina disaster was brought on be the Dem Govenor and corrupt Mayor Nagin who didn’t do crap for his city except blame Bush…while his own cops were looting stores…somebody hands him a guitar while getting ready to entertain military service members and photog snaps a picture.

This is the example you use to compare with a staged Obama photo-op with his daughters? BTW, there’s certainly no ice cream in the WH is there? Had to go to Arlington VA for ice cream or it just wouldn’t do at all would it.

Sorry, your ‘faux outrage’ example is lame.

AUINSC on June 20, 2009 at 9:26 PM

Nothing wrong with Obama getting ice cream with his kids under the circumstances. Would have been nothing wrong if it had been GW or Clinton or GHW Bush, etc. Pretending there is just makes us look just as petty and stupid as the Kos kids.

The problem here is 1) that our media spent even 1/10 of a second “reporting” on this through any media and 2) the disparity of how such things are reported about Obama v how they were reported about the prior presidents.

There are plenty of reasons to be outraged about Obama’s presidency, however this isn’t one of them. Any outrage about this is well earned deserved by the fawning and CBS and Knoller for both bias and vapidity and should be appropriately directed to them.

deepdiver on June 20, 2009 at 9:27 PM

Listen, I can’t stand Obama. But what is he supposed to do? He finally got off his ass and made some strong statements about the situation. Should he make some stronger statements? She he bomb Iran? Should he put his life and the lives of his family on hold and not get ice cream to stay at home and watch the situation? What’s going down in Iran is very important. But I for one don’t have a problem if Obama chooses not to micromanage a foreign situation into the ground the way he is doing with everything in this country.

Kataklysmic on June 20, 2009 at 7:24 PM

See, here’s the thing; It’s a leadership function – we should see him working during a crisis. Meeting with his national security staff, or with military, or with experts on the region.

In other words, doing the job; being the President.

Not watching the skateboarding, or going for ice cream.

The message sent by this is that this is not important enough to upset his schedule.

Bad message = bad leadership.
