Oh my: Health care, amnesty, climate change bills all suddenly in trouble

Imagine what the conservative grassroots reaction would be like if the GOP held the White House, both houses of Congress, and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate and still couldn’t get its core domestic programs passed. You think you hate RINOs? Wait and see how the nutroots respond to Blue Dog Democrats if they end up scuttling universal health care when all the numbers are in the left’s favor. Especially when Drudge has an item up about talks on climate change between Democrats having blown up last night and Gibbs is telling the White House press corps that the votes still aren’t there on amnesty, notwithstanding the fact that the Democrats picked up seats last year in both chambers and The One promising a Hispanic group today that it’s coming.
Too much, too soon?
The White House’s “big bang” theory of proposing a raft of landmark legislation all at once is giving way to fears of a “big chaos” backlash. Congressional chairmen saying that the pipes are overloaded between health care and climate legislation — and that was before this week’s arrival of the biggest overhaul of financial regulations in 70 years.
And don’t forget Congress needs to fit in work on all of its annual spending bills and take a month off in August.
This mad rush of legislation is posing fiscal and tactical problems for Democrats.
They simply don’t have the money to change the health care system, overhaul the energy sector and increase domestic spending as part of the appropriations process — without imposing big tax increases or exploding the deficit. Something has to give. Even if they did, the gears of Congress move slowly. Any or all of these proposals could easily jam them up.
Ace spots a plum quote from health-care veteran Rep. Jim Cooper declaring health care on “life support,” too. And yet, and yet, with Obama’s popularity still high and a bunch of GOP retirements looming, it’s still as likely as not that the Dems will pick up more seats next year, which means killing these measures now is no guarantee that they’ll stay dead for long. If The One is smart, he’ll table health care for the moment and make some moves towards fiscal conservatism to reassure voters about spending, then return to it after the midterms. Sure would be nice, though, to have some Republican leadership capable of winning votes in the meantime instead of waiting around for the Democrats to lose them. Exit question: To what extent will nutroots-fueled primary challenges to Blue Dogs next year strengthen the GOP’s hand? If they lash out and try to sabotage moderate Democrats by dragging them left, it gives us a sweet opening in purple districts.

BPD:
I don’t think that is fair. Republicans are not doing too badly on generic balloting. They are very close to Democrats there. And the truth is all politicians are looking a little crappy right now. But, Republicans today are faring better than they were when Reagan won as far as party ID is concerned.
Over and over again people say that both parties are done for, dead, lost, shit, whatever and time and again they both come back.
As for cleaning house, I think the GOP needs to run people who can win in their prospective regions. This stuff of trying to find cookie cutter candidates who match some make believe national standard is not the way to win elections.
All politics are local. Or so someone said.
Terrye on June 19, 2009 at 9:22 PM
And BPD:
Anytime conservatives want to start their own party they can, but they have to support it, pay for it, staff it, etc.And in the end, the Democrats would run right over them anyway.

A Zero was elected… He won! Now, we get to see the truth about Obama play out. He has ZERO love for America as it has been. The land that our fathers fought and died to protect, it is all to be swept aside by this arrogant POS who would be messiah.

I have to believe that most of our countrymen and women are preparing to say “enough”. Loudly, and firmly. Tea Parties, calls, email, bumper stickers, and votes. Plant seeds of sanity and doubt where you can. We need everyone wake to confront this man made disaster of a president.

Look, in both state and US Congressional/ Senate races after Obama was elected, democrats either barely managed to pull out a win or they drug hind tit.
Since then the atmosphere has changed because of Bammy’s economic stupidity and socialist nationalization crap. Not to mention Pelosi & Co’s stink. In 2008 the dupes and the bums ACORN dug up voted for Obama, and then voted right down the party line democrat on the same ballot. But they were there because of Obama. Those same poeple ain’t gonna show up and vote to re-elect Jim Bob Buttwater, D-Ohio.
We won’t take back the Hill, but we’ll win enough seats to make a huge difference.

How many people voted in the 2008 election?
299,398,484 total population
225,746,457 total population over 18 years
122,394,724 total number of US citizens that voted in 2008 election
= 54% of population voted.
Between 22 and 24 million Americans ages 18-29 voted, resulting in an estimated youth voter turnout of between 49.3 and 54.5 percent.
Sixty-six percent of young voters cast their ballot for Barack Obama, the largest-ever showing for a presidential candidate in this age group.
Obama got 52% of those that voted. That sure leaves a lot of folks in rural areas that did not vote for whatever reason! 2010 is coming quickly and I believe that the turnout is going to shock a lot of people.

I agree. The Dems even run a slight chance of losing control of the House if the GOP gets its act together and Obama continues to govern as a Saul Alinsky Marxist.
Double-digit unemployment nationwide,
2 trillion dollar deficits BOTH of his first two years,
more ACORN shenanigans,
bullying behavior like the Walpin firing, etc.
troops still in Afghanistand and Iraq,
Tea Party Movement growing
I can see a GOP takeover of the House.

Good point.
The libs think that pouring more bourbon in the alcoholic will cure him of his drinking addiction.
The fact we have already been running Keynesian deficits plus high consumer debt to party down the last 20 years, and then freak out with Obama and triple down on stupidity has left his administration with some economic truths he cannot get around.
Epic fail coming. The GOP should be ready to purge, persuade, pounce.

I see the GOP right now like Chris Farley in Black Sheep, when he fell down that mountain and grabbed the twig, holding on for dear life, “oh please little twig, thank you. Thank you little, waaaaahhh!” down the mountain he goes.
I pray to God the GOP can take advantage of the Dem’s grinding gears. We better get our Shiite together before the mid-terms and put some damn balances in with Bambi’s checks.

FWIW: Which Senators/elections are up in 2010? Add to the list. Sorry that I’m not better informed.
Ohio–Voinovich (R) is retiring; Rob Portman is the front-running R.
CT–Dodd (D): I surely hope the R running against him flushes him.
FL–Martinez (R) is retiring; I surely hope Rubio trounces Crist and then prevails in the General.
IL–Obama’s/Burris’s seat is up–I was raised in Illinois, and I can’t believe it is so Blue.
MN–I think the other senator, a Democratic woman is up for re-election; I’m not impressed, but I can’t figure out MN.
NV–Reid’s up for re-election, I believe; problem is that there doesn’t seem to be a strong R contender, right?
NH–is Gregg retiring in 2010?
PA–ah Specter; can he survive his Democratic problem? Can he beat Toomey?
Who else?

.
To start with: The American people are literally unable to dissolve still more of a substance of all these issues and how they will affect our lives down the road. Too much damage has taken place already thru this control by the democrats. On top of that this Obama administrations agenda is anti-capitalist as it has proven (I will not sight them because you know what has transpired since 1/20/09) time and again.
.
The extent of influence of the nutroots should not be marginalized in any way. As the definitions of evidence has been forthcoming of the americorp/acorn/moveon/Soros/chicago machines corruption and decay of our past as well as recent election fraud claims shall be proven axiomatic. The strength of the GOP’s hand is to speak to truth and be factual when ascertaining the numerous counts of corruption by the nutroots. We must put these charges out to the public metaphorically. These declarations need to be so that all will comprehend the meanings of these complicated and distructive messages simply in laymans terms so the average American can weigh in on those issues.
.
As far as dragging the Blue Dogs left, if we stay on our message and remain steadfast to our principles and praise those Blue Dogs when they take the pro-americam/pro-capitalist positions, perhaps the those Blue Dogs will appreciate to be ackowledged by the GOP for doing the right thing. The GOP should applaud and give appreciation that they too believe in a positive pro-capitalist society. Who knows, maybe some of the Blue Dogs will switch parties themselves. That would be better than a to moving left. Reagan was a Blue Dog at one time and look how things worked out for him.
.
In conclusion: The nutroots must be exposed to what they represent. Corrupt with the mindset to bring down our great country by making the U.S. a third world nation where they only seek the power to control our very lives by means of outright lawlessness.
.
Thankyou Allahpundit for giving us this forum to communicate our ideas and concerns.

Are you nuts? You are assuming a GOP that is organized around some sort of governing principles aside from just getting elected. Like maybe CONSERVATISM! Today’s GOP is no different than the democratic party! You won’t hear a peep out of them other than two who have courage. Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman from MN! The rest aren’t worth a bucket of warm spit!

I always add the lazy turds who couldn’t be bothered to vote in the figure of people responsible for Ochimpy. What is that? 167 million? Roughly 3/4 of Americans voted for him or couldn’t be bothered to vote at all.
The stupidity and apathy is great with this country.

So, the toilet is backing up. Didn’t Odingleballs himself, after only a short time in orifice, say he was “rather good at being President”? The doofus didn’t even know what he didn’t know.
Didn’t the BO08 supporters claim Sarah Palin had too little executive experience to be even VP, yet the inherent wonderful wonderfulness of the Zero was more than enough to outweigh the fact that he hadn’t even ever held a single legitimate job? But didn’t Palin get the pipeline done: something that had stalled for decades?
During the Shrillary/BO08 contest, I often wondered whether I’d prefer the Crocodile Woman, who at least stood some small chance of being a bit pragmatic, or BO08, with his radical-left agenda. I think, in a way, we won with the BO08, because it’s starting to become apparent that he’s going to prove to be completely ineffectual, and may well be a “lame duck” from September on through to ‘12. With luck, he’ll completely poison the crap-and-trade, health care and amnesty initiatives for years to come.

I agree. The Silent Majority are talking and organizing. ACORN will be in high gear registering Mickey Mouse. The Black Panthers will patrol polling sites with immunity. A new poll by NBC shows 76% people support a public option, so I stand by my own opinion that those who are thwarting it will be perplexed when voters don’t agree with them. These are the out-of-touch congresspeople, who have apparently convinced themselves that a tax credit is enough.
If they fail to pass it, I personally will work hard to insist that ALL gov’t employees, including Congress, have their benefits revised. Give THEM a tax credit, and then let them buy insurance.
That is only fair. And that is also going to get through.
AnninCA on June 20, 2009 at 9:59 AM
People support a “public option” when they think it means they could get something for free. Support for it dries up when they see the price tag.

I just looked at that poll…the question actually asks how important it is to have a choice between a public plan administered by the government and private insurance.
Also, more than 50% of the respondents are over the age of 50, and they only talked to 109 people – and they had to have cell phones as their only telephone.
Here’s the link if anyone’s interested…
ladyingray on June 20, 2009 at 11:52 AM
I mean, honestly, Ann…how can you take a poll seriously when the call is terminiated when the respondent doesn’t say “cell phone only” to the question, “Is a cell phone the only telephone you have, or do you have a landline as well?”
What kind of scientific survey is that?

We conservatives have had six years of our RINO politicians being in complete control and doing next to nothing to move the conservative agenda. Now the far left gets to watch it happen. There might be one good thing that comes out of this: the American populace demanding TERM LIMITS!

Christian Conservative on June 20, 2009
Term limits will cause honest, effective and intelligent political leaders to be forced out of office just as they are gaining seniority and can do the most good. Since none of those leaders have existed for years, I’m all for term limits. If we can’t guarantee “good” politicians, at least we can limit the damage.

What needs to happen is a Libertarian revolution here in USA. Get rid of the USDA, DOC, ED, HHS, HUD, DOL, DOI, DOT, ATF, DEA, FED, Freddy and his buddy Mack, privatize SS and Medicare and wipe more than half the stupid laws off the books. Get rid of more than half federal judges and lawyers, Give power back to States, and make it mandatory congress go home and be citizen legislators not professional politicians who make stupid laws that make the rest of us suffer and them rich. Oh ya cut Federal taxes so top rate of 5%. And watch the country prosper. Private charity and States I’m sure would take care poor and teach them how to succeed. Right now it takes a lawyer to start a small business in USA. That is insane! GET THE DAM GOVERNMENT OFF OUR BACKS!!!
