Video: The obligatory “Bush very mildly criticizes Obama” clip

posted at 9:20 pm on June 18, 2009 by Allahpundit

Big headlines for this on Drudge last night and in papers today to provide kindling for a hoped-for Dubya/Obama conflagration, but these light jabs are the rhetorical equivalent of wet matchsticks. Is Bush not supposed to speak about policy at all, even in general terms, for the next four or eight years lest it offend the Lamb and his media apostles? If he wanted to hammer The One on a pet issue, he would have gone after with him for his silence on Iran’s democratic movement. As it is, it looks like he avoided the topic entirely, no doubt well aware of how counterproductive his comments could have been to U.S. foreign policy right now.

My TARP-hating boss will enjoy his lecture about the glories of the free market, though. Exit question: Should Bush, of all people, really be making cracks about the folly of sending terrorists for therapy?

canopfor on June 18, 2009 at 9:46 PM

Is Bush not supposed to speak about policy at all, even in general terms, for the next four or eight years lest it offend the Lamb and his media apostles?

In traditional terms, the answer to that question has been yes. The outgoing POTUS didn’t say anything to allow the incumbent room to govern. That dynamic changed with Clinton who scrambled in the aftermath of the 9/11/01 atrocities to blame something other than his own failed policies for the incinertion of over 3,000 Americans.

The filthy liar in the White House has upped the ante by bashing GWB in every single speech for the failures of his own administration. Yes, the economy was bad when the filthy liar took over but obama is still failing and the more he is failing the more he bashes the previous administration as an excuse for his own bad stewardship.

It is only right for the GWB to respond. GWB never blamed Clinton for all his bad leadership- even after those policies killed 3,000 Americans. The filthy liar in the White House has been relentless in being the street thug that he is. He doesn’t deserve the silence of the previous administration so that he might lead because the filthy liar in the White House has yet to show a single example of leadership.

I defy one of the filthy liar’s supporters to show one place where the bastard has been a leader.

Not Lamb as in sacrifice — Lamb as in Lamb of God, aka Jesus.

“We won.”

When his smarmy face is on tv, we mute it… but it always looks like he is saying something clever like “I know what you are but what am I?” or “Nana-nana-boo-boo we won.” Did he really say “we won” in response to an American citizen expressing his First Amendment Right to Free Speech? This is one wicked bad dream America is having!

Doesn’t Gibbs just try to imitate Obama at his press briefings?

His constant stammering seems to be his attempt to sound hyperintelligent, nuanced, and very specific with his word choice – because these people are convinced that just using the right word all the time is what prevents/solves problems.

I agree with you on the former, but as to the latter, many economists declare that that tax cuts INCREASE tax revenues

This was empirically proven during the Reagan and Bush Presidencies. Only liberals believe raising taxes raises revenues. They are wrong about this – and most other things.

A couple things: They think Reagan and people who support this idea got lucky. We’ll never get anywhere until we convince them it wasn’t luck.

Also, they’re right – in the short term. They could raise everybody’s tax rates to 85% or something tomorrow and revenues would spike dramatically for a fiscal year or so until everyone regrouped, quit their jobs, got laid off, etc. Sure – they’d balance the budget and bring in a ton of money to the goverment, but it wouldn’t last.

Until politicians, pundits, and people who make political television commercials get off their lazy rhetorical/creative/visual/verbal asses and find a way to explain this stuff to an increasingly undereducated nation that has virtually no long-term memory, a disintegrating short-term memory, that has no time to digest information and no attention span to do so with — you can kiss your solid economic theories goodnight because they’ll never be put into practice.

It’s our own damned fault, though, for not engaging in these battles enough. Sure, the media is a big part of the problem, but we need to stop blaming everyone but ourselves and do something productive. There’s nothing worse than a bunch of whining Republicans.

If you take the statement of obvious facts as criticism, maybe you need to look a little more closely at yourself.
