European leaders do not respect Obama. He has insulted the UK multiple times since he took office, and they are pissed. France’s Sarkozy called Obama a naive empty suit. Merkel sneers at Obama routinely, also calling him naive.

I find it interesting that the right suddenly cares what Europe thinks of an American president. He’s still more popular than Bush, you must admit.

The European people.

What tangible evidence is there that Obama’s empty, weak words have raised the world’s opinion of the United States, and/or improved life for anyone, anywhere?

I’m not the one claiming that speeches can change the world.

Gorbachev didn’t like Reagan at first, either. Reagan won him over, across a period of years, many meetings, and many strong public statements that shamed Gorby into more discussions.

Can you provide hard evidence that it was Reagan’s speeches that had the primary effect? Or even a significant effect?

And, by the way, you left out the part about Iraq being free from tyranny because of George W. Bush.

More importantly, Saddam wasnt deposed because of Bush’s speeches. It was because of Bush’s war.

The futility of Obama’s actions were evident to anyone with a minimal understanding of Middle Eastern culture. They are a bit like the Klingons: swift and decisive action is pretty much the only thing Iran (and many other nations) will ‘listen to’.
