Boxer gets snotty with general: Address me as “senator,” not “ma’am”
posted at 7:21 pm on June 17, 2009 by Allahpundit
I don’t know how else to read this except as a gratuitous slur that he’s refusing to acknowledge her title because she’s a woman, as though he’s Col. Jessep in “A Few Good Men” or something. What are the odds that a guy who’s spent decades addressing his superiors as “sir” would address a woman senator as “ma’am”? I actually went back and skipped around in the video of the rest of the hearing to see how he interacted with male senators and caught him answering Vitter’s questions with “yes, sir” a number of times. Is Boxer’s ego so fragile and her method so imperious that she’d publicly humiliate a guy whom she has no reason to believe is being anything less than respectful?
Answer: Given the power trip she once pulled on Inhofe at a hearing with Al Gore, yeah. She’s that imperious. Click the image to watch.

HAHA she reminds me of those snobs from that “South Park” episode who sniff their own farts!!

I’m old enough to remember the good old days when she be hard working all right, in the kitchen or washing/ironing clothes.
Best of all her mouth would be shut.

Yes ma’am Senator Boxer ma’am.

t must have been about ten or fifteen years ago, when I was having lunch at this restaurant in DC, and the waitress kept correcting me when I addressed her as “ma’am,” insisting I call her by her name. Apparently “ma’am” is some sign of domesticity, of subservience. Or something.
In the south, ma’am is as common as y’all.

Yes ma’am, Senator.
paulsur on June 17, 2009 at 8:01 PM
I believe the actual military protocol is to formally address a female as “ma’am” or by her rank, and that either are acceptable.
The officer is doing what he has learned to do, just as snippy Boxer (what a dog) is doing what she has learned to do. and, with a brain as capable as hers, I am certain her ego is (or should be) exceptionally fragile. She needs that title to justify her heartbeat, not because of what she has inside that is worth any respect. And she knows it deep down.
Of the two, only the officer deserves any respect or has worked hard to earn anything.

You what I’m thinking? I’m thinking that Senator Asshat hasn’t been laid in awhile, and she’s pissed that a fine man like the General would have nothing to do with her. But, I could be wrong.
Andy in Agoura Hills on June 17, 2009 at 8:01 PM
of course we don’t expect it from Ed, except — it is quite a cerebral remark in this instance when you consider the fact that “boxers” are quite ostensibly “asshats”

I’ll add that when I was growing up, if I was in trouble, if I didn’t say ‘Yes Sir, No Sir, Yes Ma’am, No Ma’am’, my dad would beat the crap out of me for being disrespectful.
I learned quickly how to respect people by saying Sir/Ma’am and still do even when people ask me not to.

Had it been me, and only because of her smugness, I would’ve answered her rebuke with, “aw come on little lady, don’t get your panties in a bunch.”
Which, by the way, is entirely out of character for me. My Marine Corps background still has me saying ‘ma’am‘ when I address the fairer sex.

I know I’m going to catch hell for this… But has anyone noticed that we began our decline into autocracy and socialism around the same time women got the vote?

As an officer in the Army (and a woman, at that) I ALWAYS address superiors (though this woman is not) and civilians by either “sir” or “ma’am”. This is ingrained into our every fiber. I met a few senators (McCain and Clinton) and a govenor (Palin) on my last deployment and not a single one of them objected to being addressed by “sir” or “ma’am”.
olycon on June 17, 2009 at 8:11 PM
She doesn’t deserve to be addressed as “ma’am”. I can’t say what I would address her as if I ever meet here, but it starts with a “c”.

Just goes to prove that the left despises the military. Her contempt just drips from her lying, liberal lips.
afotia on June 17, 2009 at 8:12 PM
Have you ever noticed that liberal men are… effeminate?
That is no accident. Leftism just simply isn’t a mindset that is compatible with natural maleness.
A real man loves and cares for his family. Enough to go out there and put it on the line to earn food for his family. He doesn’t go and whine and cry for others to do it for him. Conservative men do the former, the effeminate liberal does the latter.
wildcat84 on June 17, 2009 at 8:12 PM
You know, this ticks me off no end. She is not in the chain of command in any way. She holds no rank on him, and as such, is not even entitled to “Ma’am” in military parlance. In civilian lingo, it is polite to refer to people as “Sir” or “Ma’am” – but I will be da>>ed if ANYBODY can claim a “Title” in the United States. If that’s how people address them, then whoopie – but there is no claim to that right under our constitution.

Say we were to pick up 15 senate seats, all of them of like Carly Fiorina, who is also like Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe. Say we were to take back the house, again, electing similar people.
What good would that do for us? We’d still be marching towards socialism, just slightly slower. We’d still be getting Obamacare, just slightly watered down.
And even if it were only a couple of them, we’d be dealing with them as a cadre of traitors on every issue.
Nope, enough. There needs to be a line of demarcation between the parties. The GOP is the conservative party. The democrats are the place to be if you are liberal.

Why do we Southerners use ‘ma’am’ and ‘miss’?
Because Southern men know who really rules the planet, women. If that isn’t deferential enough for Barbara then she can sit on her ‘senator’.

Ma’am can be a name of respect, just like “sir”.
He isn’t addressed as General all the time, and you can bet he worked hard to get his title.

It’s not a bumper sticker, it’s a helmet sticker, it’s about 1/2 inch by 3 inches in size.
Go to any American made motorcyle shop that is not an athorized Harley Davidson dealer, they’ll have names like American Iron, Custom Bikes, Chopper (something). They have a vast assortment of helmet stickers. There may be a bumper sticker out there that say’s that, but I don’t know where to find it.

I know many members of the military, and almost without exception they always address civilians as “sir” or “ma’am”, and it’s out of respect.
And I always address them the same way, also out of respect, with one exception: Sergeants :) You don’t call a sergeant “sir”, or “ma’am” you call them “Seargant”, they work for a living :)
It’s shocking how much military people appreciate being treated with respect and deference by a civilian like myself in public, depressingly so, this should be the NORM, not the exception.
