Obamateurism of the Day

During the presidential campaign, Barack Obama cultivated strong relationships with mayors from major cities, for good political reasons. Their liberal politics align naturally anyway, and more to the point, mayors usually control the vote-generating machines that make the difference in elections. Without strong turnouts from urban centers, Democrats have a tough time winning elections in either the primaries or the general election.
A sitting President might want to keep those people happy, but Obama apparently wants to keep unions happy instead — and the mayors are speaking out about Obama’s snub:
America’s big-city mayors are steaming over what they view as “a very dangerous precedent” set by the Obama administration in its decision to shun the U.S. Conference of Mayors annual meeting in Providence, R.I., this week.
In its attempt to honor the picket line of a local firefighters union involved in a labor dispute with the city, the administration has inadvertently angered some of its staunchest supporters in urban America, who argue that by declining to send an official contingent to the three-day mayors’ conference, the administration is caving in to labor and snubbing local governments at a time of economic strife.
“It was a horrible decision,” said Mayor Michael Pizzi, an independent from Miami Lakes, Fla. “No matter where Obama goes, no matter what city you go to in the United States, you’re going to have some union that’s having problems.”
In his speech to the conference Saturday, Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, president of the USCM, suggested the administration was unwilling to make the kind of tough political choices that mayors must make every day. …
“This is no longer a campaign, where slogans and sound bites dominate the day. This is the time to govern, and all of us know this because this is what mayors do 24 hours a day.”
Don’t be silly, Mayor Diaz! All Obama does is campaign. Has he yet begun to govern? He’s outsourced his stimulus plan, his health-care plan, and his cap-and-trade plan to Congress. He’s barely awake during the crisis in Iran, and he has hardly reacted to North Korea’s series of provocations.
Now the mayors know where they stand in the pecking order – right behind the unions with whom they negotiate. Welcome to Hope and Change, yerronners!

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

How about a big entry/tag about ABC-Obama’s health care propoganda & Tim Johnson their health correspondent
it’s the top story on drudge

The presidency of Barack Obarfy is an entire amateurism

Mayors do something? I thought we learned regarding Palin that being a mayor means nothing.

Now where in Dear Leader’s previous record would one get the idea that He was “unwilling to make tough decisions”?
Unions are part of The One’s power base. Other politicians are merely potential rivals. Play to your power base.

“a very dangerous precedent”
The spelling, it’s almost there.
the_nile on June 16, 2009 at 10:20 AM
I’ll say it again…this is not a case of amateurism…this is professionals pledging allegiance to the people who put them in office – unions.
rockmom on June 16, 2009 at 10:20 AM
See, Palin was wrong.
Being a community organizer is absolutely nothing like being a mayor.
myrenovations on June 16, 2009 at 10:20 AM
It is insane that he campaigns. Who would elect him again, he doesn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground right now.
suzyk on June 16, 2009 at 10:21 AM
Unless you’re the ditzy mayor of Wasilly, Alaska. Then you’re just a bubblehead who doesn’t know anything about how government REALLY operates. I know this is true because the MSM told me so!
BardMan on June 16, 2009 at 10:22 AM
He isn’t anti-mayor. Just ask Kevin Johnson.
Laura in Maryland on June 16, 2009 at 10:22 AM
This guy will never learn that voting “present” is not leadership; he is a dismal failure.
Look at his timid response to the Iranian election.
singlemalt_18 on June 16, 2009 at 10:23 AM
Mayors are mostly Democrats, and they always go into a Democratic admnistration believing they are going to get everything they want — and they are always disappointed. Bill Clinton didn’t do anything for them either. And this time it will be even worse, as Obama built his own political machine in this campaign and doesn’t need the mayors to deliver votes for him in 2012. But he does need the cash from the unions.
rockmom on June 16, 2009 at 10:24 AM
Pretty much. He’s even botching up the the little symbolic stuff I honestly thought he would be good at – like gifts and fluffy press conferences with the liberal British PM. His arrogance is unbelievable.

This Constitutional scholar gave a speech echoing the preamble’s reference to forming “a more perfect union.”
Now we know what he really meant!

I remember getting into a massive argument with a typical Anti-American/Pro-Jihadi Traitor Democratic Leftist lady, at work, around the beginning of Oct last year, before the election.
She was SHOCKED, SHOCKED I tell you, that I could not possibly be in love with THE ONE, the New Messiah, Barack HUSSEIN Obama (PBUH)(SWT)(SAW)!
Of course, believe it or not, she was from “Southern California”.
After running off the usual litany of “crimes” committed by “George Bush”, she sought to convince me why I should vote for Obama.
After I parried all her nonsense, with FACTS, especially in regards to his radical Anti-American Upbringing and his complete lack of such critical things as….you know…EXPERIENCE!
She said this to me: “Barack Obama is the PERFECT “Man”, there has never been anyone like him, he is a “Beautiful” man, and he will lead this country and the world out of Darkness”!
The reverence, and willful stupidity that she displayed, sent a chill down my spine.
I told my wife that afternoon…Obama IS going to win the election, because people in this country have freaking lost their minds, they truly think this guy is some type of “god” or “messiah”!
Well, once again, I have been proven correct.
We. Are. So. Screwed!

So now we are going to allow a major news media network to turn over their programming to a Democrat agenda with no rebuttle or debate allowed? Does ABC/Pravda even have a clue what the ramifications are when there is only one side of an argument allowed? And, does the Obama administration even care what a dangerous road they are traversing?
Rovin on June 16, 2009 at 10:39 AM
I was thinking the EXACT same thing! He makes it just too easy to scoff at him. Sadly…
Minorcan Maven on June 16, 2009 at 10:40 AM
This is a local story for me, and I’m amazed that a firefighter’s union picket line is being recognized at a conference of mayors. Used to be that you’d picket outside your place of employment during a strike and people who crossed the line were scabs. If you can now throw up a picket line wherever you think it might most annoy and inconvenience people, it seems like the best idea ever would be to go to Capitol Hill and picket the restrooms.

SHARPTOOTH on June 16, 2009 at 10:42 AM
Many people voted for Obama because they thought he ran a great campaign-saying that he managed his campaign well. But Hillary and the republicans tried to warn them that campaigning and giving a good speech is all Obama knows how to do. He will be voting present for another 3 1/2 years. Let’s hope we still recognize our country in 2012.

No.
I fear it will be more than 3 1/2 years. I expect elections to be suspended by 2012 and Obama declared Messiah for Life.
BitterClinger on June 16, 2009 at 10:52 AM
If we put up a union picket line at 1600 Pennsylvania, could we keep all these liberals out of the White House? Then start another around the Capitol.
pablo5108 on June 16, 2009 at 10:53 AM
This was the genius of Obama’s brain (Axelrod): the one-two punch of convincing folks that Bush was evil and McCain equaled Bush, combined with the Good News that Obama was the knight in shining armor here to save America and the world. Perhaps the most cynical campaign in modern times, but it worked like a charm on millions of Americans.

Obama is federalizing the political machine. By 2012, he’ll be hand-choosing mayors in ever major city in America.
logis on June 16, 2009 at 11:25 AM
The mayors do not have as deep of pockets as the unions.
HoustonRight on June 16, 2009 at 11:31 AM
That is how dictatorships all get going. They get support by their personalities. And then they oppress. And some people never stop supporting the oppressor.
This country has become truly scary.

Sort of like the plot of The Dark Knight.
Gangsters turned allied themselves with the Joker in hopes he would protect them, only to learn that the Joker was a sociopath.
As Alfred said to Bruce Wayne:

Govern? That’s what the Czars are for. Obama’s job, as Community Organizer in Chief, is nationalize the economy and stir the pot.
Maybe soon he’ll appoint a Czar for The Rest of the World, or at least a Czar for Iran.

Having watched unions up-close for 26 yrs, I know that this is what they do best: “having problems”.
jgapinoy on June 16, 2009 at 12:32 PM
Hmmmmmm. Not the first mayor to figure this out. Too bad this one was so late to the fair.
BetseyRoss on June 16, 2009 at 12:38 PM
Bob,
I’ve reviewed your comment and noticed a glaring error. There are no “lines” to get in. There is only support for unions. End of Line.
BobMbx on June 16, 2009 at 12:46 PM
Prediction: 99.99% of mayors who voted for DER OBAMA in ‘08 will vote for him in ‘12. Obama’s actually smart about this. Why waste time at a conference convincing people to like you when they already jerk off to you every night?
angryed on June 16, 2009 at 12:59 PM
Well that seals it – Miami can expect a precipitous drop in Federal dollars after that petulant little outburst by their mayor. As Mr. Obama has shown in the Americorps IG case, no one is too inconsequential to be spared the lash of Mr. Obama’s whip.

You were and we are. But keep in mind that the higher the pedestal, the harder the fall. This is reliant upon a functioning and honest media. I know that Rush calls them the “state-run” media but I hold out some slim hope that a portion of that media will tire of their subservient position and let go of Obama’s zipper long enough to report the truth. We can dream, can’t we?
