Quotes of the day

posted at 10:30 pm on June 15, 2009 by Allahpundit

“Finally, here’s a second thing Sarah could learn from Hillary: It’s the substance that sustains, not the exposure. In terms of raw talent on the hustings, Sarah Palin is far more of a political natural than Hillary Clinton. She might get somewhere in the long run if she would just go away in the short run and read some books. Her problem is that she thinks the popular culture is the culture. She has no context, no knowledge of the world to offset her obsessive Nixonian flailings about how everyone is belittling her stature as the hardworking governor of Alaska. Her answers on CNN about Pentagon cuts in missile defense that affect her state were as halting and glassy-eyed as a novice U.N. translator’s attempt to grapple with Uzbek in his earphones.

Yet if Palin added some depth to her knowledge, she has so much she could offer.”

***
“And God bless Sarah Palin. What would we do without her for entertainment? She’s our very own political reality show. An American Political Idol finalist. She’s like watching a moose on roller skates. Never graceful. Always riveting.

Yet, despite buckets of criticism constantly flung her way, she’s got a lot going for her. Just like George W. Bush, people and the media constantly ‘misunderestimate’ her. No matter what you think about her politics, this woman is tenacious, fearless, and savvy. John McCain’s former chief of staff, Mark Salter, said it best: ‘What she knows, you can’t teach. And what she doesn’t know, she can learn.’

She got thrown in the deep end before she could swim. As my friend Stuart Stevens said, ‘It was like picking someone of the street and telling them they had to take the MCATs the next day.’ But, she dog-paddled furiously, thrashed about, made a lot of waves, and managed not to drown. And now she’s got her water wings. And she’s working on her strokes. And by 2012 or 2016, she’ll be a lot stronger.”

You know how that lady said she needs to read some books?

She was being nice.

She really needs to read a newspaper…or at least learn the name of a newspaper.

Yes, but it’s only the summary of a thesis; you need to support each of your claims with provable facts.

For the record, I supported Governor Romney in his bid for the senate, and his run for governor, and even early in the primary.

But, you can’t simply lionize; to convinc others, you need logic and reason to support your position.

I don’t think you meant it to offend her- but you asked how long she was married, her labor- then kind of pounced on her. She seemed upset when she left. I don’t think the two of you connected there. Again- not my place not my business. It was nice to learn about you a bit more- all you ever say is that your an old hermit :)

Yep. Thank goodness for C-sections. You get all the pain after instead of during. I only had misery and contractions for the first one, (he was estimated at 10 lbs before delivery) and for the second one, we just scheduled the surgical suite.

After is the fun part. I remember a nurse telling me “This is Mary, she’s going to teach you how to get out of bed”. I remember teaching Mary a whole new vocuabulary from the pain. It seems that the incision goes through muscles that are needed for normal movement.

Americannodash on June 16, 2009 at 1:39 AM

That was something he tried in Massach. A market oriented approach as the cost of providing healthcare in hospital urgent cares was more expensinve than the alternative. He never suggested it was the right approach for the country and he has said so many times.

Of course, to understand that, you need to read newspapers which counts Palin out.

Americannodash on June 16, 2009 at 1:39 AM

I’m not any kind of full on Mittard, but I am going to hold him up on this one. The plan he crafted does have benefits to the (very small slice) of the population of Massachusetts that needed health coverage, and could not get it. For example – if you were the only MA resident employed by an out-of-state company, your options were either non-existent or limited and expensive. In concept, it has been a good thing; and he had to pass it with a hostile, overwhelmingly Democratic legislature.

massrighty on June 16, 2009 at 1:43 AM

Corrupted with amendments by the hostile legislature I referred to above. Great idea, flawed in it’s execution. And, unlike the current “public choice” option, it was never a stalking horse for single payer.

Well, of course that is accurate. In addition, his successor added benefits that were not part of Mitt’s original plan which caused the plan to not work as well….and of course various retarded folks blame Mitt for that.

No use arguing with these Palintoligist types. You would have better look using logic and reason and convincing the tree in your backyard to walk to the store and buy you and ice cream cone.

Oh, are we supposed to be discussing politics? Okay.

I have to give Mitt credit even if his healthcare has problems. My understanding is that the states are supposed to be test labs for change. This lets the rest of the country see what works and what doesn’t, and allows other states to make changes and try variations. If it works well, then we see about taking it national.

If nothing else, we can use Mass. to illustrate that government may not be the only or best solution (been there, done that). If there are problems, let’s figure something out before we wreck the country with ObamaCare.

Laura in Maryland on June 16, 2009 at 2:02 AM

Mitt is a genius with accomplishments unseen in the political class. He is only trying to help…he could make a few more billion telling the political world to piss off…which he will eventually do cause the electorate is not worthy of a man of his abilities and stature.

Hope that helps.

Even when government is the only possible solution, e.g. undertaking war, it always brings with it other problems, e.g. massive bureaucracies, that become problems, e.g. competing power centers or cash liabilities. This is why when getting government involved in anything, it should be involved with the least impact on functions that can be done otherwise.

Governments do no know when to stop meddling, and liberals even more so. Helping the elderly, poor, and vets sounded good, but we ended up with SS, medicare, medicaid, and the VA. None of them are efficient, and we cannot afford to maintain them any longer.

It kind of reminds me of baby alligators. Some idiot gets a baby alligator for his kids because it seems like a good idea, and then he is shocked when it gets too big for the aquarium. Having no clue and no sense of responsibility, said idiot dumps the reptile along the highway. Long story short, animal control has to tranquilize and remove a hungry 8 foot alligator from the local park, but not before some innocent kid loses an arm.

With sincere apologies, I don’t spread cheezy emails, but this I had to share. It seems that objects can be mail or female. Here are a few examples:

FREEZER BAGS: They are male, because they hold everything in, but you can see right through them.

PHOTOCOPIERS: These are female, because once turned off; it takes a while to warm them up again. They are an effective reproductive device if the right buttons are pushed, but can also wreak havoc if you push the wrong Buttons.

TIRES: Tires are male, because they go bald easily and are often over inflated

HOT AIR BALLOONS: Also a male object, because to get them to go anywhere, you have to light a fire under their butt.

SPONGES: These are female, because they are soft, squeezable and retain water.

WEB PAGES: Female, because they’re constantly being looked at and frequently getting hit on.

TRAINS: Definitely male, because they always use the same old lines for picking up people.

EGG TIMERS: Egg timers are female because, over time, all the weight shifts to the bottom.

HAMMERS: Male, because in the last 5,000 years, they’ve hardly changed at all, and are occasionally handy to have around.

THE REMOTE CONTROL: Female. Ha! You probably thought it would be male, but consider this: It easily gives a man pleasure, he’d be lost without it, and while he doesn’t always know which buttons to push, he just keeps trying

I will examine this thread tomorrow. Right now, I’m getting into troll research. Some are intensely disruptive. There are a few though that are extraordinarily nuanced and much of their posting seems appropriate, but it slowly drifts and pulls the thread off topic and suddenly you discover you’re trying to defend all Republicans from the claim that they hate little children, want their arms eaten off by alligators, and are actually profiting from this through their sinister pet store plots. I read all about that in a blog once. So, I don’t really know what to do about those types as they seem like they fit in much of the time, even if they have different opinions.

My husband just told me that my addiction to politics is keeping me up too late…but I just explained that there is so much more here…C-sections, jokes, troll talk, and politics! What fun to live in a country where everything is possible! God bless America – please!
Goodnight.

Good night. Cindy Munford says that at a certain point, nearly all that can be said about a topic has been said and it naturally drifts. This seems true to me. Then again, Cindy is a woman!

Unless, perhaps administrators can do so. I don’t know about that.

Thanks for putting up with me. Do you have a clue as to my politics yet? As to what I’m doing here?

Loxodonta on June 16, 2009 at 2:54 AM

Wasn’t this originally a Palin thread before I dragged it off on a tangent? Then please allow me to make one comment regarding Palin:

If she were President, I might actually be able to get some sleep.

Good night all.

All i know is Palin fights and the rest of the gop “leaders” run and hide. that is enough for me. To those that still think she doesn’t read a neewspapers. Your comments show more of your stupidity then hers…

I think that it would be best all around if you answered that above statement yourself. I is I and you are you. That can also be said, I know what I am, but what are you.

I know I like making people laugh and think and providing comfort and promoting fundamental human values, including individualism. I want as many conservatives as possible to win seats in Congress in 2010. And that means focusing on the big things that unite and not fighting too much about the little things divide, but not trying to exclude for the sake of purity. I like diversity built upon fundamental values. I don’t like manipulative and brutal activities. But I get angry, and can be rude, get off topic, as I have done here, so I apologize. But I think this blog has enormous potential to help promote a conservative – libertarian – moderate alliance to win. I’d like that. And then of course, I meander and write too much, so I apologize for that to, because I am such a Catholic. That and a few million other things pretty much sums me up.

If Palin wasn’t effective, the media and the Dems wouldn’t be thrashing about like they are. She wouldn’t even be on their radar screen.

They’re afraid of her.

You know, I definitely like Palin a lot more than the more fanatical portion of her following…the cult part if you will…not all her supporters. I even admitted that she did much better in her interviews with Wolf Blitzer and the NBC dude than I have seen her. And I was happy that she schooled Letterman.

But here is the thing, no more paraphrasing or quoting Abe Lincoln when he was famously talking about Grant by saying:

“she fights”.

OK?

Its FRICKING pathetic. Its like waaaay stupid the first 1500 times it was said on this website and it is even MORE stupid now. Mmmmmmmkay?

She fights…got it…thats greeeeaaaaat….yeah, she fights.

OK, lets shut it on that stupid comment now.

I hope we also put to bed that irritating “raaaaaaaaaaaaaacist” comment that kept coming up too.

The Final Cut on June 16, 2009 at 3:21 AM

Oh yeah, one more thing:

Yes, we all agree that the liberal media and the democrats ARE AFRAID OF HER!!!

Yep, we got it. They have FEAR OF HER…YOU CAN SMELL IT!!

Got it. Thanks for telling us that 6000000 times.

They FEAR her!!!

Or, perhaps, they think she is their ticket to continued success since she cost the republicans the independent vote and they think she is woefully unprepared and is just a cult figure to a small vocal minority that isnt going to vote democrat anyway.

You are I are on the same platform so to speak. The apoligizing part which when warrented yes , e.g. David Letterman, but what you’ve written above does not call for it, There was a man that I knew when I was in my teens that told me that if you are the right or are standing up for your rights then no apologies are required. If you are wrong in what say or do and proven so, then be a man and apologize.
