Quotes of the day
posted at 10:30 pm on June 15, 2009 by Allahpundit
“Finally, here’s a second thing Sarah could learn from Hillary: It’s the substance that sustains, not the exposure. In terms of raw talent on the hustings, Sarah Palin is far more of a political natural than Hillary Clinton. She might get somewhere in the long run if she would just go away in the short run and read some books. Her problem is that she thinks the popular culture is the culture. She has no context, no knowledge of the world to offset her obsessive Nixonian flailings about how everyone is belittling her stature as the hardworking governor of Alaska. Her answers on CNN about Pentagon cuts in missile defense that affect her state were as halting and glassy-eyed as a novice U.N. translator’s attempt to grapple with Uzbek in his earphones.
Yet if Palin added some depth to her knowledge, she has so much she could offer.”
***
“And God bless Sarah Palin. What would we do without her for entertainment? She’s our very own political reality show. An American Political Idol finalist. She’s like watching a moose on roller skates. Never graceful. Always riveting.
Yet, despite buckets of criticism constantly flung her way, she’s got a lot going for her. Just like George W. Bush, people and the media constantly ‘misunderestimate’ her. No matter what you think about her politics, this woman is tenacious, fearless, and savvy. John McCain’s former chief of staff, Mark Salter, said it best: ‘What she knows, you can’t teach. And what she doesn’t know, she can learn.’
She got thrown in the deep end before she could swim. As my friend Stuart Stevens said, ‘It was like picking someone of the street and telling them they had to take the MCATs the next day.’ But, she dog-paddled furiously, thrashed about, made a lot of waves, and managed not to drown. And now she’s got her water wings. And she’s working on her strokes. And by 2012 or 2016, she’ll be a lot stronger.”

Er … Shrillary has no substance. Anyone who didn’t know that should have been made aware with that moronic ‘reset/overcharged’ nuclear button that she stupidly gave to Lavorov.
Shrillary was nothing but the wife of an impeached President. Big whoop! And now she is a failure at SecState. Great. Lots to learn, there.

So people want change? How about real change?
How about someone not tainted with an elitist holier-than-thou upbringing, clueless about the world and society around them, nor beholden to big banking interests and the Federal Reserve.
THAT’S change. That’s Sarah Palin.

I think a lot more people are becoming believers, however grudgingly. But:
LOL…”obsessive Nixonian flailings”? “She thinks the popular culture is the culture”? Talk about presumptuous. And Palin in the interview did fine, I think. Certainly better than the bullshitter air Obama gives off when he’s talking about something he knows absolutely nothing about, like the economy or the number of Muslims in the US.

Tina Brown is basically saying what Ann Coulter says and what other intelligent (non cultists) believe. Namely, that she could have a bright political future in the national spotlight if she takes some serious time and become educated.
Ultimately, there is no way in hell that the country is going to elect a candidate who knows less about the world and less about things in general than your average college educated 26 year old.

Gimme a break! Do you really think this is the same thing? NO ONE took shots at Chelsea the way Letterman went after Palin’s family, and don’t be so sure that Hillary would’ve been elected. By accepting the position of Sec. of State (for which she wasn’t held at gunpoint), Hillary has placed herself right where she needs to be to take another run in 2012. Hell, I’d admire her more if she spoke about or acted upon how she REALLY felt about Bill, Obama, the Democratic Primary, etc. With Palin, her values and convictions are apparent and she hasn’t waivered, so WYSIWYG. Remember how Hillary waivered over the subject of N.Y. driver’s licenses during one of the Democratic debates?
Gee, who do I trust more?

It’s a Hillary supporter projecting Hillary’s worst qualities (which are very Nixonian, frighteningly so) onto the “new girl”.
She did the same thing in that line where she said:
Hillary’s going to teach Sarah that cheerfulness, the “go-to pitch”, so to speak, that Palin relied more and more on as she was assailed by the most loathsome media attacks ever launched on a candidate for higher office (and still does as the assault and campaign to destroy her continues) is more impressive than resentment, a feeling that Hillary conveys as her most dominant personality trait?

Boys and Girls, as read on another blog…”There is a new Sheriff in town and her name is Sarah Palin”. And….guess what the Sheriff has given us our confidence back, made us understand that we are not over, not by a long shot.
You see she came down to the lower 48 and the excitement began. She drew a huge crowd in New York…New York!!! Then she smacked down the whimpy neo-cons in Washington DC. Got her pipeline deal moving in the right direction and then eviscerated David Letterman for his totally disgusting hyperbole that some call comedy. All of this in less than 7 days and now she is back up in the Final Frontier and her tribe awaits her next visit with eager anticipation.
I don’t worship Sarah Palin, but I do respect her ability to cut through the crap, her lack of fear to stand up and do what is right and last, but not least she is PROUD OF HER COUNTRY and what it stands for.

I read Tina’s article when Allah had it posted earlier. I really don’t get the whole meme of Palin bucking for attention. Should she have NOT said something when a sexual joke is made about one of her daughters?
And this business that the joke was directed to the 18yo, not the 14 yo. Really? That makes it better? That makes the joke ok? Because….the 18yo got knocked up, so she somehow deserves it?
I don’t see Palin drawing attention to herself by defending her daughter.
Besides…didn’t Obama say family is off limits?

CCRWM on June 15, 2009 at 11:03 PM
The piece by this opinion whore is so chock full the arrogance of the faux nobility that I don’t know where to start…but, here goes:
…so…Hillary’s a more “natural” politician…rather like being a “natural” in another profession by being born with roller skates on your heels, but I’ve already used that profession as a jab once this posting….
…and, I thought that citizens were to run out government, not an artificially rendered proletarian ruling class…but, apparently Ms. Brown’s enamored of the hayseed nomenklatura that we’ve seen rise like mushrooms in the dark places where the media chooses not to go….
…there ya go…I’d like to know jus’ what it is that Ms. Brown’s referring to here…or is it the usual side-swipe by someone who thinks that they’re so cool that their own fecal material doesn’t eminate odors…everybody who wasn’t at the last cocktail party’s a rube, is that it, Tina?
…once again, upon what is this founded?
…I say we begin retaliating by belittling the stature (and intellects, honesty, biases and grammar) of career media opinion whores. They go all “bunker mentality” so quickly, after all….
I think that I have the kernel at the heart of the mystery of why Gov. Palin is so viscerally hated by the perfumed ponces of the press: she’s a common citizen. She rushed off into public life, seeking whatever, and has made good. Her family isn’t perfect (whose is?), but is imperfect in a very human and not a “reality show” kind of way.
How dare such a person, unvetted by the cocktail party circuit, think that they can trespass on the sacred preserve of the Establishment (of which ol’ Tina Brown aspires to be a part)!
It isn’t that Ms. Brown (and the rest of the press) dislikes Gov. Palin. Ms. Brown and her scaberous ilk despise the people who inconveniently populate those barren, benighted spaces between her own digs and those of her class-comrades out in Malibu. We’re all “flyover people” the way that little black kiddies with bloated bellies and bare-breasted women with plates in their lips were once “National Geographic people”.
…we’re not only a different nationality from Ms. Brown and her coterie, we’re almost a different species. She writes looking down her long nose at us the way Oxford dons look down on the scum they peer at through microscopes….
…it’d be enough to make one want to crawl back into the culture dish and die…if it weren’t that Tina Brown and her friends were such morons….

Letterman’s apology was not so swift and intellectually dishonest even on his 2nd try, perverting intent vs. perception because after all his intentions were so “good”.
I would not let Mr. Letterman off the hook for molesting kids. But Tina Brown does. He’s such a good friend to everyone who matters.
All the while, Gov. Palin is conducting her professional and personal life admirably.
Her detractors can burn themselves, brand themselves. Perverts never could keep their hands to themselves, never could respect other people’s rights.
