Obama on Iran: I cannot be silent, even though I was silent for three days

High drama here as the president calls the Iranian government a “ticking time bomb” that must be dealt with now if America’s future is to be secure. No no, just kidding; that’s what he said about health care. Here we get a hard dose of Hopenchange caution-speak, acknowledging that the protesters have “inspired” Americans and that we respect Iran’s right to decide its own fate but that we’ll continue to pursue “tough” diplomacy with the regime on nukes no matter how odious Ahmadinejad might be. Hey, if we wanted a president who’d throw down the gauntlet and walk away in a situation like this, we would have elected the other guy. Sorry, Iranian kids.
Fun fact: Whereas The One was “shocked and outraged” by the murder of George Tiller, the most he can muster here for mass beatings and cold-blooded killings across Iran is that he’s “troubled.” Make of it what you will.

Ochimpy is fulfilling Greasy Joes prophecy that within 6 months Ochimpy will be challenged by a foreign power and he wont know what to do.
This sorry excuse for a president is totally on the defensive in his responses and Iran is dictating the tempo and conditions of this incident.

Obama’s ability to answer questions “off the cuff” is terrible! And he doesn’t like to discuss any topic that would cause him to take a clear position without a prepared response.
How long before we before Obama creates the office of the Iran Czar?

Is this Barry’s Katrina? The media killed Bush for a natural disaster and give Barry a pass for a human caused disaster. All he had to do was say a few words. Anything. Was the TOTUS on vacation? The scary part is that he thinks he can deal with Shorty. Good bye Israel. We may have to move the survivors to Arizona.

GarandFan on June 15, 2009 at 9:47 PM
I detest when people try to be clever about Israel’s potential destruction and our lack of will to stop it. Last time we moved many of the survivors to Israel. Now we either talk of resettling the remnant of their children and grandchildren or posit that God will not turn his back on Israel. I guess you could say that the dead of Europe’s Holocaust are “in paradise” and despite starvation, gas, and fire God protected them, but it is a flimsy argument at best.
Man killed “Israel in Europe”, man wants to do it again.
clnurnberg on June 15, 2009 at 9:48 PM
The long term picture: does any of this matter. If things work out in Iraq and they show signs of that happening, how long before cousins talking to cousins across borders talk about freedom. Our brave military planted a tree in the desert, a small tree, but if taken care of it could blossom into nice stout tree. Can the roots spread to Iran? Only time will tell. Barry can stuff the Cario speech.Words never freed a soul.

Israel must exist, it must survive, it must thrive, where it is now. Like Barry’s promises peoples memories come with expiration dates. I wonder how the Holocaust history is covered in school these days. I was watching Schindler’s List last month and I let my 10 year son watch it with me. I wanted him to see a depection of the horror, the evil, and yes, the indifference of humanity to what was going on. Sadly, more Americans care about trees than freedom.
bigtexmex on June 15, 2009 at 10:07 PM
Sounds like some illusion to respecting inalienable rights in a totalitarian regime. Does he also really think that they have the right to peacefully dissent and democratically choose their government leaders? What a bunch of useless blather.
TexAz on June 15, 2009 at 10:12 PM
If Israel wants to live, they should show it by leaving the UN. I left Israel in 2005 when it became clear that they wanted to give Gaza up, without getting anything in return, and I warned my friends that that was suicidal. NJever give anything to arabs without having them sign for it, publicly thank Israel for it, and return something of value in exchange. Errant gift-giving leads to many of today’s problems. Too many treat the whole world as if they are all Westerners.
progressoverpeace on June 15, 2009 at 10:12 PM
Obama is just scared that the protests against a corrupt and dictorial regime in Iran will also happen here – against _his_ corrupt and dictorial regime.
I wonder if he will be made out of arugula jello then – or if using violence against his ‘fellow countrymen’ is the only time he would consider violence. He has no problems strong-arming major corporations – why not the rest of us?

The UN is a democracy of dictatorships for the most part, but I don’t think having no voice there is the answer. Most would twist it into an admission of guilt “not even a UN member state, hence totally illegitimate”.
Leaving the UN, unless as part of a group, would accomplish nothing and allow every hateful speech to go unanswered.

The UN is an empowered, peerless, competitionless entity that will never lead to anything good. It is not worthless and it is not useless. The UN is extremely dangerous. One of the most dangerous organizations that has ever existed. Any state that participates in it is a moronic state and deserves to suffer.
On the other hand, having a voice in the UN is worthless. Better to not be bound by the entity than to be a member that is constantly abused by it.
So what? The UN considers Israel illegitimate, now. The UN, through its life, has spent most of its time passing anti-Israel resolutions. Go check all of the security council resolutions and you will be amazed at the large percentage that were devoted to injuring Israel. It is utterly amazing. To stay in such an organization (aside form the other problems) serves Israel no purpose.
Did you know that Israel was the only member state that was ineligible to sit on the security council, up until 2002 (something around then)? Do you know why? Check out which regional group Israel is in for the answer.
The UN has never done anything for Israel. Even the initial acceptance of the state was worthless, since Israel had to birth itself by fire. And the UN has worked to kill Israel ever since.
It would express Israel’s opinion that the UN is illegitimate, which it is. If Israel stays in the UN, then Israel legitimizes that dangerous organization.
Let them go unanswered. Israel’s answers in the UN have never come to anything, anyway.
If Isrel left the UN, the UN would have nothing left to do, as they were always preoccupied with Israel.
All Israel has to say is that empowered, peerless, competitionless entities are dangerous and destructive, as elementary evolutionary theory says quite clearly. Someone needs to call the UN the theoretical monstrosity that it is. Only a fool would believe that the UN should even exist. Such an entity is guaranteed to be destructive, as we have all seen. At some point, people need to call it what it is.

The BBC of all news outlets smacking Obama with (you’re a pussy and Bush was strong) that.
They put a few Bush jabs in there, but damn that was brutal for them.
Someone said on another blog that they felt sorry for the Iraninans rising up right now. In another time, America would shine now.
Obama says he doesn’t want to use American influence to make things worse. His anti-americanism is becoming more then just passive aggresive now.
That’s pretty out there. Oh and the Iranian state having “sovereignty”. Basically saying in code that the Iran state can do whatever the hell it wants with the protestors, ya know, just do it nicely guys, alrighty?

If true, this latest development should speed things up both in intensity and direction. Surely the government apparatus is thinking, “we found 16, but how many more?” They may begin the kind of violent reaction that many have feared, which will cause more defections, which will require foreign mercenaries to make up the loss in ranks, etc. etc. Yes messy indeed.
