Obama on Iran: I cannot be silent, even though I was silent for three days

posted at 7:42 pm on June 15, 2009 by Allahpundit

High drama here as the president calls the Iranian government a “ticking time bomb” that must be dealt with now if America’s future is to be secure. No no, just kidding; that’s what he said about health care. Here we get a hard dose of Hopenchange caution-speak, acknowledging that the protesters have “inspired” Americans and that we respect Iran’s right to decide its own fate but that we’ll continue to pursue “tough” diplomacy with the regime on nukes no matter how odious Ahmadinejad might be. Hey, if we wanted a president who’d throw down the gauntlet and walk away in a situation like this, we would have elected the other guy. Sorry, Iranian kids.

Fun fact: Whereas The One was “shocked and outraged” by the murder of George Tiller, the most he can muster here for mass beatings and cold-blooded killings across Iran is that he’s “troubled.” Make of it what you will.

Allah–too funny.

I posted this on another thread.

I am so disgusted with this man! I truly believe he doesn’t care. I know people will say he’s in over his head but I believe he has no problem with what is happening and it interferes with his domestic takeover. He’s that cold!

When the Iranians who seek freedom finally attain it, I hope, by that time we have responsible leadership in place to help them.

If not, they will hate the US. Which they do not now,… but will. That’s what is so horrible about Obama’s silence!

BTW, Frank Gaffney is recommending Americans can help the people by divesting in public companies who support Iran.
For more details podcast Hugh Hewitt’s show in the second hour.
This is Obama’s katrina times 1000 and now is the time to get congress to pass legislation to support Iran.

Obama was/is sooo wrong on this and this will be a turning point in his short and ugly career as leader ( and I say this will great disgust ).
Call your congressman and senator and voice your support for action!

jeff_from_mpls on June 15, 2009 at 8:04 PM

Hey don’t forget, he ran his campaign and that is what made him qualified for the White House.

Fun fact: Whereas The One was “shocked and outraged” by the murder of George Tiller, the most he can muster here for mass beatings and cold-blooded killings across Iran is that he’s “troubled.

Hey now, he’s not just “troubled”….he’s deeply troubled. And if the situation gets worse, he might even become “gravely” troubled. Fear the wrath of the stern adverb, enemies of America!

TheQuestion on June 15, 2009 at 8:07 PM

What in the world would regime change in Iran do to further Obama’s goals? That’s why he had nothing to say!

Exactly, it’s all about him.

How does this advance or impede his election prospects? His payoffs to Democrat donors? His plan to bring socialism and social engineering to America?

He’s not sure. So he really has nothing to say.

By the time he figures it out, it will be over and what comes next will not be in our interest.

NoDonkey on June 15, 2009 at 8:07 PM

We must give them a break on this. It must be horrible to have your crib notes all screwed up because of a few Iranian protestors. They are scrambling to reorganize.
Limerick on June 15, 2009 at 8:02 PM

But you would think they would want to be on every site possible, pounding their chests and bragging that they have such brave men on their side beating up and killing all those protestors. I mean that’s pretty good stuff – beating up women and students and killing e few for good measure.

You know they would love to be there helping out if they could.

Wasn’t around for Carter, but is this how it felt like?

Upstater85 on June 15, 2009 at 8:06 PM

No. Carter was a fool and an incompetent, but most of the Am. institutions (courts, schools, media) weren’t anywhere nearly so corrupted. Also, Carter wasn’t personally at war with certain ethnic groups like Obama is. The US was then still so strong and stable that it could withstand Carter’s folly. The Am. population was made up of different people too–people who still had a personal connection with WWII and understood patriotism because they themselves were patriots and had served. No. It’s very different, and much, much worse.

what’s interesting is that this is a time for bold leadership where the President speaks with authority on what we will do. But that is not Obama’s style. He is so beholden to the style of being the rational middle man between two strawmen, that it will be difficult for him to make the strong speech.

Obama on protests in America:

“Those of you who are watching certain news channels on which I’m not very popular, and you see folks waving tea bags around, Obama said, “let me just remind them that I am happy to have a serious conversation about how we are going to cut our health care costs down over the long term, how we are going to stabilize Social Security.”

“But,” Obama continued, “let’s not play games and pretend that the reason [for the deficit] is because of the Recovery Act.”

No one feared Carter. Carter was fairly honest, not deceptive. Americans fear Obama. Obama is all stealth. Obama has the media. Carter did not have a state run media.

Honestly Carter was the biggest cause of freedom being taken away from people in decades. Just a list of events when Carter trashed the CIA and threw up the white flag to the Russians.

1979

January 16 – Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi of Iran flees Iran with his family, relocating to Egypt after a year of turmoil.

February 11 – Khomeini seizes power in Iran.

February 14 – In Kabul, Muslim extremists kidnap the American ambassador to Afghanistan,

April 20 – President Jimmy Carter is attacked by a swamp rabbit while fishing in his hometown of Plains, Georgia.

June 20 – A Nicaraguan National Guard soldier kills ABC TV news correspondent Bill Stewart and his interpreter Juan Espinosa. Other members of the news crew capture the killing on tape.

June 25 – Belgium: NATO Supreme Allied Commander Alexander Haig escapes an assassination attempt by the Baader-Meinhof terrorist organization.

July 16 – Iraqi President Hasan al-Bakr resigns and Vice President Saddam Hussein replaces him.

July 19 – The Marxist Sandinistas take control of Nicaragua.

September 7 – The Chrysler Corporation asks the United States government for $1 billion to avoid bankruptcy.

November 1 – Iran hostage crisis: Iranian Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini urges his people to demonstrate on November 4 and to expand attacks on United States and Israeli interests.

November 9 – Nuclear false alarm: the NORAD computers and the Alternate National Military Command Center in Fort Ritchie, Maryland detected purported massive Soviet nuclear strike. After reviewing the raw data from satellites and checking the early warning radars, the alert was cancelled.[

December 24 – The Soviet Union invades Afghanistan.

He always deflects specific criticisms by co-opting the criticism. It’s very clever. If he has been accused of being vague, he doesn’t defend his past statements, but says how important it is to be clear. If he has not responded, and has been criticized, he begins by saying how important it is to respond. Obama understands better than most how much perception matters and not fact with the average person. And he relies on the willing state run media to go along with the facade. He relies on no opposition when he fires the IG, or when he drops charges against black panthers, but will sympathize with critics if necessary by suggesting how important it is to follow the rule of law. Obama is only possible with the full cooperation of the American people.

Maybe it’s just me but did anybody else notice the decidedly unPresidential comment that the filthy liar made twice? He referred to watching the violence in Iran on television. He’s President of the United States of America. We spend millions if not billions on intelligence gathering and analysis for this stuff. All that and the filthy liar is getting his information from CNN? No wonder we’re so screwed.

BIG SHOCK!

News Flash–Venezuela and North Korea send congratulations to Imadinnerjacket!

LOL! So if Obama goes for Imadinnerjacket he aligns himself with these people. Meanwhile, Merkel and Sarkozy are condemning the violence and the election as well!

HotAir’s filters might be having a problem with something you are trying to say…

Debating whether Obama is worse than Carter is like arguing about whether it’s better to step in dog crap or cow dung.

NoDonkey on June 15, 2009 at 8:24 PM

I think it’s easier to slip in cow dung…
