Video: Palin on Alaska’s new natural-gas pipeline and the dangers of Obamanomics

posted at 1:00 pm on June 13, 2009 by Allahpundit

‘Cuda fans have been begging us to post this, partly because it shows how effective she can be when she’s comfortable during an interview and partly because it’s an opportunity to tout her triumph in bringing Exxon on board to help build Alaska’s ambitious new natural-gas pipeline. Credit to Blitzer and CNN for giving her an opportunity to talk policy at length; the obligatory questions about the Letterman trainwreck don’t come until the very end, after an extended discussion of energy and an elaboration on what she meant when she said the tentacles of federal aid to the states will lead to “controlling the people.” More like this, please.

I was not so disturbed by ‘the suspend the campaign’ meme during the meltdown but I was greated agitated and distressed over his ‘nothing to fear from Obama’ meme. I believe if McCain had any chance before October 13th (slim and none because of the meltdown) he gave away any hope of a huge comeback after he made this assertion out of ‘white guilt’. That is why I hate ‘white guilt’ with a passion, that it causes politicians to act irrationally and to say things that make no sense whatsoever.

technopeasant on June 13, 2009 at 3:44 PM

I don’t think it was so much white guilt as trying to come off as the wiser one…that or he knew he was going to lose

I support Palin and am pro-choice but I have no interest
in arguing about that. I am also an athesist.

I relate. I’m pretty much toast on that issue.

I even told my son, libeal from SF, go for it.

I turn this over to you.

I’m pretty much done with this issue in life. I’ll still stick up when arch-nutcases go against all pro-choice issues.

But, I’m done with the issue.

The next generation?

You want your girls going to get back-alley abortions?

That is your choice and your consequences.

I’ve spoken out for over 35 years.

I’m clean on this one.

AnninCA on June 13, 2009 at 4:01 PM

I think he went both ways on the photos and only relented on releasing them when he thought it might hurt him. If he thinks it will help him to release them, he will change again.

Terrye on June 13, 2009 at 3:08 PM

Proof for that is that he could have signed an executive order at any time and ended this nonsense… and he hasn’t. He can still change his mind and release them OR turn the other way while someone else leaks them to the press.

yogi41 on June 13, 2009 at 4:02 PM

She despises Palin because Palin is pro-life… Anninca is rabidly pro abortion… she’s hoping we don’t remember…

CCRWM on June 13, 2009 at 3:45 PM

A-CA flips on Palin depending on the thread’s crowd.

She claimed Palin was anti-birth control; and I informed A that Palin promotes birth control that ranges from abstinence to contraception, ALL BASED UPON AN INDIVIDUAL’S RIGHT TO CHOOSE.

Personally, I challenge Leftists who don’t want to get pregnant to take measures PRIOR to sexual intercourse to prevent starting something they don’t want and with corrupt insensitivity, are brazen enough to snuff out a life begun with profane indifference to what YOU fertilized. Get sterilized, or have doctors insert preventive devices if you are so damned lazy that you can’t seem to remember or choose to take timely precautions.

Take responsible measures to prevent fertilizing an embryo that you would mutilate into extinction.

I sincerely hope that you and my sister really do, because her inability to let go of those beliefs and embrace truth is really costing her.

Ann, why do you insult us all implying that we would actually want and have our daughters get an abortion?

Why would we do that?

I spent the first 35 years of my life in the SF Bay Area. I know the mind of the culture there. It is very selfish, materialistic, elitist, and secular from SF down to SJ. It is why I don’t live there now. You will not find more intolerant people than there.

The whole backalley abortion thing is another strawman. So you think we should kill 40+ million babies to protect women from having back alley abortions.

You are just SCREAMING for help from something in your past. There are many organizations that can help if you reach out.

You know you don’t have to do it alone.

It helped women in someways but I have friends who have independenced themselves into loneliness and precarious financial situations with no way to backtrack.

First, there needs to be at least 5 more etceteras in that sentence, otherwise his approval percentage would be above zero, which we know could not possibly be true from his own posts about how people always criticize him.

Second, I like teasing Allahpundit. I mean, what’s not to tease about him?

Third, I’m tracking the surveillance being done of him and once we’ve narrowed in on his cave, I’ll contact you so we can make the necessary intervention. I’ll fall down on him. That part should be easy. Then you tickle him until he starts laughing. That part may be more difficult. We might need help.

Strawman, again.
You’ve been called on this;

No one wants this.

Some like the current situation.
Others would like to see this become, as it once was, a legislative mattter.
Still others would like to see certain limits placed on certain types of abortions.
And, still others would like the father of the soon-to-be-born child have a legal voice in the decisions.

I’ve never seen a “pro-coat hanger” march, or a “pro-death from back alley abortion march.”

AnninCA on June 13, 2009 at 2:55 PM

So true. I can’t stand Hillary, but her voice I have no problem with at all.

There is really only one accent in the USA that I find really difficult, but I’m told many others would agree. The Jersey accent like what Marissa Tomei used in “My Cousin Vinny” is the one I struggle with. The others I have no problem with, and southern women’s accents are wonderful. When that music comes at you, it is hard to focus on what the lady is saying sometimes.

Excuse me. I just imagined Tomei …. from Alabama. Yowwwww!

AnninCA – Palin recently appointed a pro-choice woman to the AK Supreme Court. She did not have a litmus test, but based her decision on who was most qualified.
She does believe in parental notification for minors. Her reasoning is that it is a medical procedure and parents must give consent for things like aspirins in school and dental cleanings. She is not asking for parental approval, just notification.

AnninCA on June 13, 2009 at 2:44 PM

No they’re not. Back when I was studying journalism in college some 35 years ago, we didn’t have journalism grad students cheating on take home exams. That happened a couple of years ago at Columbia.

Fittingly, the course they were cheating on was “Journalistic Ethics”.

25 years agom the NY Times had no trouble calling the bad guys “terrorists” on Page 1. Roday they are not allowed to use that word.

Video: Palin on Alaska’s new natural-gas pipeline and the dangers of Obamanomics

The liberal left MSM really have their panties twisted over Sarah Palin…Why, well because she’s the real deal, and the legitimate ONE, that of being a true United States Citizen. Moreover, I believe they’re afraid that she’s well seasoned with her problem solving abilities. She’s not beholden to beltway special interests, and could solve most, if not all of America’s energy problems.

promachus on June 13, 2009 at 6:01 PM

As with anyone Gov. Palin speaks better to things she knows. Energy and her support for Israel are things that she is down right eloquent about. And they in turn are baffled. Not that it takes much to do that.

Cindy Munford on June 13, 2009 at 6:06 PM

The last few days, since last weekend have been a complete home run for Sarah Palin. No, a few home runs.

The trip to NY state was great. She raised $400,000+ for that Long Island charity in a few hours.
She drew 20,000 people to the Autism Walk in a town of 28,000.
At the Yankees game, as a guest of Rudy, she was a hit. Signing baseballs, and anything else for people.
Lots of good press from local media in NY state.
I think Letterman felt obligated to crap on her momentum.
It blew up in his face, giving her yet more momentum.

Then this suprise deal with Exxon and TransCanada, was a serious policy victory, energy independence, private sector jobs created for years, revenues to the government without taxing people more.
Win, win, win, win.

Look for Obama, through Salazar and the junior Dem Senator from Alaska, to try and horn in on this great victory that Sarah has brought.
They have been trying to spin it and use it against her, because she staked her candidacy for Governor on it.
Now it can’t be spun as a pipedream or failure, they will try to take it away from her.
She said so in this interview.
I’ve seen this coming for months, and she sees them coming at her too.
That’s reassuring to me.
Sarah won’t let them get away with stealing this pipeline away from her.
If they try, she will fight them publicly, and she will win that fight.
America, on the whole, does not want things like this to be run by the Federal Government.
The people are already on her side, and she knows it.
Sarah is ready for them, and I’ll be enjoying watching her take them down on energy independence.

Go get ‘em, no mercy!

She will tear the libs up on this energy debate. They had better be careful underestimating her, she knows what she is doing. Gas prices are going up again, and the Democrats have shut off offshore drilling again. That is Alaska offshore, but the rest of the country too.
She will win that one, because about %70 of Americans already agree with her, and she is well aware of that.

I can’t wait for this fight to get started! Ding ding!

I’ve got to run out for a while, since I do have a social life away from the computer! See you guys later.

Sarah can solve the problem that Uncle Sugar is creating by claiming the land….drill it anyway and tell Uncle Sugar to pound sand. You want to win the hearts of America, Sarah? Then punch Uncle Sugar in the nose.

c’mon, Ann is not a troll. That was unfair. Are you going to label everyone you don’t agree with politically as a troll? The conversation between Ann, Mass and Terrye has been great, IMO.

Annietxgrl on June 13, 2009 at 3:24 PM

She said (without a hint of sarcasm) that Obabam was straight forward about gay marriage quoting some campaign speech about marriage being between a man and a woman. I don’t mind if people disagree with me. But I do mind when they are disingenuous like that.

She’s not a troll, she’s from California. She’s flexible. And she’s pretty nice to.

Cindy Munford on June 13, 2009 at 3:23 PM

So nobody from Cali can be a troll? HUH?

Uncle Sugar is an interesting name for our Drear Leader. I believe I recall the term being used by La Cosa Nostra in reference to the FBI. Does it have some other cultural or historic context? What do you mean by it?

Too many people are saying she’s not a troll. Many are respected, long-time posters here. I’m somewhat newer, but I don’t see troll-like behaviour.

She adds something, even when you disagree with her. Typically, trolls do not.

Q.E.D. Not a troll.

Re: Palin’s voice, accent, etc.

Bless you I thought is was my hearing…sssssssssssssssssss

I am fully aware of the revival style when hussein needs to play to non-elites, and his constant um um um when he is with or without TOTUS…

Also who the hell is he looking at….looks to the left looks to the right never into the camera….and let’s not forget that he always looks as if BO has made a doody……and it smells really really bad….nose pointed upward….

Are you joshing us or are you truly unaware of the president’s addiction to his teleprompter? One to the left, one to the right. It has it’s own very funny website.

Cindy Munford on June 13, 2009 at 7:35 PM

She’s always been like this. If you stop looking for things to criticize her for you’ll stop finding them.

You and Ed.

If neither one of you wants to “support” Palin then don’t. Just try to get your noses out of liberals asses long enough to tell the difference between what you think, and what you think liberals will think you think.

I am not impressed by Ann either but compared to what I saw yesterday by SG I can take that anyday.

Some think she is a concern troll. Others think she is simply a liberal with some moderate and some very liberal views. Mostly she seems to stay on or near topic and present her views, which often are at odds with the majority here. Sometimes she exchanges posts. And she seems uniformly civil. But there are at least a few times when she seems to pull the conversation away from conservative strengths and into the mish-mosh of the middle or to start arguments, do hit and runs, disappear when questioned, or otherwise seem trollish.

However, I think many posters here, including obvious conservatives, can be imperfect in their temperament or language, and can stray far from the thread topic. For example, we are currently off-topic.

So, I have not decided yet what to make of her. Mostly she seems like a traditional, old-fashioned liberal with some moderate views, with whom I can agree sometimes or disagree more frequently civilly. And I prefer not to call someone a troll unless I can see actual trollish behavior. But, I have been told she is gaming me, so… I continue to read and occasionally engage and ponder.

Loxodonta on June 13, 2009 at 7:37 PM

nondhimmie on June 13, 2009 at 7:30 PM

Yep. I’ll add to earlier comments in this thread (I’ve also said this about Obama in other threads) that he’s really not a good public speaker. Sure he can read from a teleprompter- provided he doesn’t get ahead of himself and the machine doesn’t malfunction- but he isn’t a clear communicator by nature or ability. And making eye contact (by looking at the camera, in televised speeches) is something any competent communications professor will drill into you in “public speaking 101″ type classes.

The “ping-pong” style of teleprompter reading should have been drilled out of him when he was an Illinois politician, or at least the U.S. Senate at the latest.
