Video: Obama auto team called shareholder lawyer a “terrorist”

posted at 8:46 am on June 13, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

When we last left the negotiations between Chrysler’s senior bondholders and Barack Obama’s auto task force, Thomas Lauria and his clients alleged that the government used intimidation tactics and threatened to sic the White House press corps on individuals if they didn’t give up their rights to allow the unions to win in the bankruptcy. Congress took an interest in this”madman” theory of the Presidency and got access to some e-mails floating between the task force and an analyst.  Rep, Steven LaTourette (R-OH) reads from the e-mails, in which the auto task force calls Lauria — their attorney — a “terrorist” and refuses to negotiate after a Chrylser expert consulted him:

Ms Underestimated writes:

The important part comes at the end: an email exchange between Matthew Feldman, attorney on the President’s Auto Task Force, and Robert Manzo, Chrysler restructuring expert. Manzo is basically pleading to further negotiate to prevent bankruptcy, but Feldman is having none of it. Here is the exchange:

Robert Manzo, Chrysler restructuring expert: “I hope you think it’s worth giving this one more shot.”

Matthew Feldman, attorney on the President’s Auto Task Force: “I’m now not talking to you. You went where you shouldn’t.”

Manzo: “Sorry. I didnt’ mean to say the wrong thing and I obviously did. I was trying oto make sure that if we had to contribute to the solution you knew we had some room. Sorry I did not realize the mistake!!”

Feldman: “It’s over. The President doesn’t negotiate second rounds. We’ve given and lent billions of dollars so your team could manage this properly….And now you’re telling me to bend over to a terrorist like Lauria? That’s B.S.”

A terrorist like Lauria? Lauria represented a teacher’s pension fund in Indiana (among other bondholders), and had the temerity to insist that the government follow contract law.  I may be no fan of lawyers, but I don’t call them terrorists.  Apparently the White House has another view of lawyers, especially when they insist that the government follow the law.

In this process, we see which side tried to terrorize the other, and it wasn’t Lauria’s.

The peaceful revolution will continue July 4. We need to at the very least double the turnout at this round of tea parties. Given what this administration’s done since April 15 and the fact that July 4 falls on a Saturday, that shouldn’t be difficult.

Matthew Feldman, attorney on the President’s Auto Task Force is a barbaric egomaniac. Who works for another one.

His level of impropriety as displayed there (your quotes) is far worse than barroom brawling, it’s the snottiness of he who assumes he is without civil obligations to be moderately well mannered, with access to privileges that place the general public — our nation — at risk. Which makes HIM, Mr. Feldman, the terrorist, even if he’s got a suit and tie on.

Lourdes on June 13, 2009 at 9:04 AM

So what happened to nothing being wrong with a civil debate?

Another expiration date from Obama and crew….

Not really. That’s how Dem’s have thought all along. The Constitution is a rag. And using the most imflammatory characterzations is perfectly fine as long as it’s being used by Dem’s. What a despicable group of people.

If you think Feldman is bad (as I do), get to know…

…President Obama’s high-profile promises for increased ethics and transparency go out the window when it comes time to pay back Big Labor.

For instance, Department of Labor appointee Deborah Greenfield is still listed as a lawyer for the AFL-CIO in a lawsuit challenging that very federal agency over conflict-of-interest reporting requirements.

And Craig Becker, one of Obama’s nominees to serve on the National Labor Relations Board, is a radical union lawyer and forced unionism proponent who doesn’t believe workers should have any choice whatsoever to refuse unionization.

…Obama’s other NLRB nominee, Mark Pearce. Pearce, like Becker and Greenfield, has worked as a lawyer for the AFL-CIO, and his appointment clearly violates the promises made by President Obama during his campaign.

In one notorious case, Pearce defended Frank Ervolino, a local union boss with alleged ties to the criminal underworld who, along with his wife, was indicted by a federal grand jury for embezzling more than $235,000 in union funds.

Not much else is widely known about Pearce, though he has disturbingly admitted he suffers from an internal “struggle” between being a lawyer and pursuing life as an artist.

But even more disturbing is that he is clearly aiming to be another Obama appointee who will rubber stamp Big Labor’s agenda.

From a newsletter I received from an organization, “Right to Work” (righttoworkcommitte.org).

There are different colors depending on what kind of work they do.

Trial lawyers wear no star.

Defense attorneys wear purple stars if they defend rich people and do not do enough pro bono work.

Tax attorneys and corporate lawyers have to wear black stars, as it represents their cold, cold hearts.

Non-profit attorneys, also called community organizers, get stars and stripes as well as an oval shaped office.

Obama was even intimidated by a kid from gradeschool. At that last townhall performance by Obama just a few days ago, the small child asked Obama a question, Obama immediately refused to answer the question by putting the child’s credibility at risk, on display. He immediately tried using the child’s presence at that performance of his, Obama did, by making a big-do out of “writing an excuse” for the child, who was clearly not in school but there posing a question to Obama that Obama didn’t like, didn’t answer and didn’t respect.

SUCH a cad, such a lowlife, immature, snotty, snooty, petulent cad, Obama is.

(Continued)…in other words, Obama disparaged the child, presumed that the child (accompanied by the child’s father), was somehow NOT formally excused from school by being in attendance instead at that Obama performance.

So Obama used a child’s sincere question, and that child’s probable first attempt at interacting as a citizen with an elected official, so-called, to embarrass, minimize and demean the child’s credibility.

Utterly disgusting and abusive response by Barack Obama to that child’s question, as also his presence at that event.

Don’t feel discouraged

Might be dark in America for awhile

But sunny shores are ahead.

While I appreciate your optimism, I’m worried that my body is not going to tolerate all the anti-rage and anti-anxiety drugs I’m going to need!

I’m serious! I have NEVER had this kind of overwhelming anger in my life before- I may personally keep the wine industry solvent for the next few years.

The country is being run by the kind of people who call terrorists “freedom fighters” and their innocent victims inside the WTC “little Eichmanns” ( Ward Churchill ) and praise the Manson Family while calling their victims “pigs” ( Bernardine Dohrn ). They call a lawyer who is trying to save innocent people from government theft a “terrorist” ( Feldman ) while refusing to acknowledge a murderous terrorist attack by an admitted jihadi in Little Rock ( Obama ).

Does anyone actually believe that the country can survive these people? I haven’t seen any indication that we are seriously willing to try.

anniekc: you think you’re having anxiety attacks? i quit smoking in the age of obama! i quit drinking a few years ago.

but when we have the economic “rapture”, i’m going back to smoking & drinking in a big way.

Just goes to show how soft Obama is. In Chicago they’d a kneecapped Thomas Lauria by now.

They all look the same. Heil Hitler…

I appreciate your boldness to fast-forward us to a realistic point. Too often we are restrained to opine candidly about this administration.

With that, let’s again review the Big Lie.

I don’t know why anyone is complaining. Obama did promise change after all.
