Quotes of the day
posted at 9:30 pm on June 13, 2009 by Allahpundit
“I use this chance to honor the emotions of the nation of Iran and remind them that Iran, this sacred being, belongs to them and not to the fraudulent. It is you who should stay alert. The traitors to the nation’s vote have no fear if this house of Persians burns in flames. We will continue with our green wave of rationality that is inspired by our religious learnings and our love for prophet Mohammad and will confront the rampage of lies that has appeared and marked the image of our nation.”
***
“One man passing by told her, ‘You wrote Mousavi, they read Ahmadinejad!’ She responded: ‘They’re illiterate and need to learn reading.’
Then a man in a car moving in the other direction rolled down his window and shouted at her in anger, ‘You whore! Why are you creating conflict between people?’ A basiji (a member of the volunteer paramilitary aligned with Ahmadinejad) charged at her from nowhere with a metal rod and was about to beat her when he was held down and beaten himself by five or six men streaming out of nearby cars.
‘I mean, just look at this! If Ahmadinejad won 25 million votes, which they claim, we should be celebrating, right?’ an onlooker commented.”
***
“One employee of the Interior Ministry, which carried out the vote count, said the government had been preparing its fraud for weeks, purging anyone of doubtful loyalty and importing pliable staff members from around the country.
‘They didn’t rig the vote,’ claimed the man, who showed his ministry identification card but pleaded not to be named. ‘They didn’t even look at the vote. They just wrote the name and put the number in front of it.’”
***
“Washington now faces a newly fractured Iranian polity ruled by a leadership that is willing to jettison its own institutions and legitimacy in its determination to retain absolute control. That does not bode well for Iran’s capacity to undertake serious talks and eventually engage in historic concessions on its nuclear program and support for terrorism. Obama has to be prepared to move forward with diplomacy despite the wholesale setback for Iran’s limited democracy. In the wake of this disastrous election, opportunities for progress on engagement may unexpectedly present themselves. But he should do so in full awareness of the farce that has been perpetrated with this Ahmadinejad ‘landslide’ and of the seething frustration of so many Iranians.”
***
“From a reader: ‘My next door neighbor is an Iranian immigrant who came here in 1977. He just received a SAT phone call from his brother in Tehran who reports that the rooftops of nighttime Tehran are filled with people shouting ‘Allah O Akbar’ in protest of the government and election results. The last time he remembers this happening is in 1979 during the Revolution. Says the sound of tens of thousands on the rooftops is deafening right now.’ It’s almost four in the morning in Iran.”

And remember 2010! Let’s restrain this man with more conservatives and Republicans in the Senate and the House.
Loxodonta on June 14, 2009 at 1:24 AM
The position of Iran President is an appointed position. He was pick by the Ayatollahs and any thought that this would changed the way Iran works has put way to much power in the hands of the Iran President. It does not matter who is in the seat the seat is still at the feet of the Ayaotollahs He has about as much power as Bo the dog in the White House.. OK that was harsh.. he is like the President of the State of Israel or Governor General in the commonwealth countries when the power is in the Prime Minister and he should be treated as much.
He is totally powerless and this election was nothing but a shame from the day it got started. It had as much status as a vote as in a vote for American Idol. It will take many more generation of people and maybe the death of some Ayaotollah to get any change in Iran. But it has to start at the top and Ahmadinejad or Mousavi are no where near the top.

Upstater85 on June 14, 2009 at 1:39 AM
Well, given that there is a lot of work for me to do tomorrow, I should be calling it a night. I will close with this final post…
We’ll have to see what develops as the day goes on. I really hope there’s no “We’re all Iranian today” chants. What these youths want is not completely apparent. Do they want liberty or their version of it? Is throwing Molotov Cocktails the best way to get liberty – assuming that’s what they want? Can we trust Mousavi who appears to be some religious nationalist – probably not (blatantblue knows more about him than I do). As far as the Israeli question, well, I heard Bibi is going to be addressing that this week… There’s a very good chance that if Israel does attack/defend herself, this will simply be used as an excuse to give the Mullah’s more power. This is something we might have to live with. In my opinion, the Israelis have more than earned our sympathy, whereas the Iranians were the ones that gave the world this current mess (yeah, yeah, the US intervened in the 50′s blah-blah-blah). Any actions taken by the current Administration will probably be of no surprise to us. The best we can hope for is that Obama only sends a congratulatory DVD set of Burqa-chicks gone Koranic. For those in the conservative movement that are wondering what the US can do to encourage democracy in Iran, I think we can look at the successes at the end of the Cold War – Velvet Revolution, The Pope visiting Poland, Thatcher and Reagan’s achievements/influences, &c. We can do better. We can also learn from any of their mistakes. So in closing, we’ll have to see what the day brings.
Goodnight all, and enjoy the liberties we still have.
Upstater85 on June 14, 2009 at 1:42 AM
I knew some Iranian exchange students some 40 years ago, very serious, very courteous, yet very friendly. Sometimes I wonder whether any of them survived the radicalization, or if they became radicalized themselves and now terrorizing people over there.

I wonder if we had a Republican POTUS and we had this level of silence in the face of this Iranian crisis would there be calls by our craven left to “support the uprising”? I guess we’ll never know…either way no one from the outside is going to utter a peep to support the students.

Thanks, Lox. I got to sing a concert with one of my choirs in the afternoon up in Boston, and Sunday morning I get to sing for Mass. It’s good to have a cheerful and fulfilling outlet.
I’m looking forward to some Tea Party action – I want one of those Perry Battle Flags (“Don’t Give Up The Ship”) and a sign that says, “Don’t Tax Me, Bro!” I keep praying that people recognize that the future of our nation might well hang in the balance of the 2010 elections, if not sooner.
Good night, gang.

I guess no one can sleep tonight—I do not know about everyone, but in my neck of the woods, pre Iranian elections there were commercials about it on TV here. Depicting the happy & productive Iranian people & showing the evil side of the country (Ahmaddinnerjacket) any one else have these broadcasted? I thought this admin wasn’t “involved” in this yet seemed to me he was trying to send a message.

elduende on June 14, 2009 at 3:06 AM
Ruh roh Bukaroo it has Holbrooke and Dennis Ross (who spearheads Barry’s foreign policy towards Iran.) Bad joojoo.
Never mind Ladywolfnl we’ve found the culprits of the commercial. Leads me to believe that they were indeed going to take credit for Mousavi’s election.
elduende on June 14, 2009 at 3:10 AM
You know besides the headline and the first paragraph there is no confirmation of who is rejecting the result. It says Clinton is cautious and the White House was “hoping” the moderate would win. Hmmm this administration is a really inept. Good grief.

Ahhhh thank you as well as SgtSVJones, I also did not pay attention to this commerical-totally-until recently (as the lead in was Obama & my knee jerk reaction is to mute my TV) I guess ‘The One” expected or wanted a more moderate government- ala – Mousavi, but instead has come to the realization that he will have to actually deal with & make grown up decisions as to what to do going forward….
Kinda interferes with date night—
Ladywolfnl on June 14, 2009 at 3:21 AM
yeah unfortunately they are window dressing for the group. anything that has/had Holbrooke and Ross in it is bound to be a front for the administration.
Ha. As you may have noticed I like to engage in a bit of hyperbole but sometimes this administration does something mundane like issue a simple policy statement that just reinforces my conclusion that they have no freaking clue. either that or the media is making shit up again.
Reminds me of that saying “never ascribe to malice what can be explained by simple stupidity”…something like that.

But it doesn’t matter who won the election, or what the voting even was. All that matters is that he’s calling the guys liars who, for years up until just now, he has been (in his moronic, but smug way) telling us can be dealt with in a simple and rational manner. He is now admitting that he’s been wrong the whole time (which we all knew but he was going to try and hide behind with this sham “moderate” and the mullahs being ‘men of the law’). But the fact that he admits that this election was ‘rigged’ puts that all out in the open for even the dumbest (his supporters, the ‘elitists, and the media) cannot deny. He had just pushed the whole stupid narrative, once again, during the Cairo leg of his Traitor Tour (along with adding his stupidity about GITMO and whole bunch of other idiocy).
It doesn’t matter what happens from now on. The damage has been done. This was one of his major positions and the mullahs just pulled his pants down on the international stage … to find the equivalent of a Ken doll. No one can hide the embarrassment that The Precedent is – along with the fact that he is a clearly dangerous person who is not up to holding the levers of power, as his stupidity is almost without bounds.
We’ll see what happens, but The Precedent has just been made one of the biggest fools in history. Very Precedential, I must say. I would put together adds with the idiot messiah talking about how we need to talk to the Iranians over their nukes, interspersed with reports from this election and his ‘deer in the headlights’ reaction, followed by erratic decrees. Classic stuff.
progressoverpeace on June 14, 2009 at 4:19 AM
Yes yes I can totally see it Bushitler is a perfect scapegoat for Barry’s embarrassing Iran failure! Its Bush’s fault the moronic Cairo speech was oversold by his sycophants
LOL! I have to tell you I’ve never witnessed such a policy clusterfark in public by a POTUS as bad as this one ever. I guess just in pure embarrassment terms maybe GHW Bush’s public puking on the Japanese PM way back was pretty embarrassing but it was not intentional and had nothing to do with policy this was just an exquisite public implosion of epic proportions from Friday to Saturday. They have been so sanctimonious about their foreign policy bullshit this is a sweet sweet comeuppance. I love it! Barry yoohoo how’s that Iran policy doing? LOL!

There have been riots before in Iran. This is nothing new. And nothing ever comes out of it.
Thousands, tens of thousands, or even a hundred thousand people demonstrating is meaningless in a country of 70 million.

This is the same thing as the Saddam times. We were told for a decade that simple sanctions would bring Saddam to his knees. All it did was give him a propaganda tool to complain how the US was “starving” his people to death and allowed him to continue to rebuild his military.

My God, it’s full of czars!
The public-relations arm of the Democratic Party is spiking stories that might make Obama look bad? I’m shocked, sir! I’m still hoping we’ll hear more about the $134 billion in US Bonds that turned up in a suitcase in Italy, but haven’t.

A few months of “Shuffle the Insane Old Clerics” and then it’s back to buggering little boys, whipping the rebelious youth for enjoying decadent Western luxuries like soap, and of course, blaming the Jooooooz for all the suspiciously medieval problems Iran seems to suffer on a constant basis.

Great!!
I hope that these are the building blocks for true Freedom
and a rejection of “Radical” Islam that their country is the leading supporter of around the world.
I agree with this sentiment from Insatpundit that believes if there is going to be Revolution,it will start with the women and the men will follow:

Freedom will be the death of Radical Islam.
