Diplomat’s murderer released from Gitmo

Yesterday, the Obama administration announced that it had released Ahmed Zuhair from Guanatanamo Bay’s prison and transferred him to Saudi Arabia’s terrorist rehabilitation program.  The Los Angeles Times informs its readers why exactly we held Zuhair at Gitmo for as long as we did.  Zuhair was involved in the murder of an American working for the UN in Bosnia in 1995:

The detainees were sent back to Saudi Arabia, their home country, where officials will review their cases before sending them to a rehabilitation program. One of them was identified as Ahmed Zuhair, a relatively high profile detainee who, has been protesting his detention since 2005 through a hunger strike and has been force-fed liquid nutrients.

During a hearing in Guantanamo in October 2004, Zuhair was accused of involvement in the 1995 killing in Bosnia-Herzegovina of William Jefferson, a U.S. official with the United Nations. At the tribunal, U.S. officials said Jefferson’s watch was found on Zuhair.

Zuhair also was convicted in absentia by a Bosnian court in a 1997 car bombing in the town of Mostar. He also allegedly told another detainee he was involved in the bombing of the U.S. destroyer Cole in 2000, according to evidence presented at a Guantanamo proceeding.

There was a time in American history where the murder of US citizen, and especially a diplomat for the US or UN, would mean a relentless search and doom for the perpetrators.  Apparently, those days have long since disappeared, perhaps about the time the US repeatedly offered its hospitality to Yasser Arafat, also implicated in the murder of an American diplomat in the 1970s.  Now, even when we have one in custody, we release them.  Great deterrent; I wonder how the diplomatic corps feels about this development.

Zuhair wasn’t just a random Afghani or Saudi picked up by accident.  By his own admission, he participated in the bombing of the USS Cole, and the Bosnians want him for a terrorist attack there, apart from his involvement in the murder of William Jefferson.  Why not give him to the Bosnians instead, even if we were inclined to release him at all?

The Obama administration has all but surrendered to al-Qaeda with these releases.  If the murderer of an American UN worker and a participant in the USS Cole bombing can get set free, then who would Obama keep in custody?  The administration is rapidly making membership in al-Qaeda and participation in terrorism against the US a no-risk proposition.  (via Thomas Joscelyn, whose post should be read in full)

Update: More on Zuhair and his organization in Bosnia, the Saudi High Commission, here:

The SHC, while participating in some legitimate charitable functions, uses its cover to ship illicit goods, drugs, and weapons in and out of Bosnia. In May 1997, a French military report concludes: ”(T)he Saudi High Commission, under cover of humanitarian aid, is helping to foster the lasting Islamization of Bosnia by acting on the youth of the country. The successful conclusion of this plan would provide Islamic fundamentalism with a perfectly positioned platform in Europe and would provide cover for members of the bin Laden organization.” [Jacquard, 2002, pp. 69-71]
However, the US will take no action until shortly after 9/11, when it will lead a raid on the SHC’s Bosnia offices. Incriminating documents will be found, including information on how to counterfeit US State Department ID badges, and handwritten notes about meetings with bin Laden. Evidence of a planned attack using crop duster planes is found as well. [Schindler, 2007, pp. 129, 284] Yet even after all this, the Bosnian government will still refuse to shut down SHC’s offices and they apparently remain open (see January 25, 2002).

Good luck on the rehab program with this hardened AQ operative.  He’ll be back in Europe as soon as possible.

You ate the hook, the sink and bait

It’s much too late

The ship of fools keep sailing on
The ship of fools keep sailing on
And on and on and on

But I can be merciless for sure
And you’ll sail for many moons
I can’t believe you lost your mind
I’ll watch you falling down, again

The administration is rapidly making membership in al-Qaeda and participation in terrorism against the US a no-risk proposition.

Not only is there no risk, but some terrorists will be rewarded with re-location to a nice tropical island paradise, new clothes, etc., at significant U.S. taxpayer expense.

Obama is a fool, and we will be paying for his foolishness in many ways, and for many years to come.

US tells North Korea to end ‘provocative’ actions 13 Jun 2009 12:03:01 GMT
Source: Reuters
WASHINGTON, June 13 (Reuters) – The United States said on Saturday that North Korea must stop its “provocative” actions and return immediately to stalled six-party talks on its nuclear program.

In response to new U.N. sanctions agreed to on Friday, Pyongyang said it would start a uranium enrichment program and vowed to weaponize all of its plutonium.

“(North Korea) needs to cease provocative actions and rhetoric, and return unconditionally to the six-party process,” said a State Department official, when asked to comment on the latest threats from North Korea. (Reporting by Sue Pleming, editing by Will Dunham)

North Korth laughed and said “or what?”
the United States responded “Orrrrr you’ll make us mad, thats what”

Did anyone actually believe that President Obama was interested in defending against terrorism? His association and mentoring from a terrorist is widely known. The MSM covers for his actions, teachers attribute virtues on him, and he robs money from opposition party contributors.

The best a person can hope is that President Obama is just in it for himself, and his actions are nothing more than to garner political favor. His past however belies that hope, William Ayers is a lifelong terrorist. Jeremiah Wright purveys racial hatred. President Obama has been raised his entire life hating the United States.

I think that was his strategy for not dropping the photo bomb on our troops. Imagine him doing all these things he had planned after releasing the photos. It would have been too much for him to get away with. He keeps the heat off himself for his crimes against America and our troops by giving his media the ability to point to that strategic decision not to release the photos.

I have a feeling that the troops in the field will fully understand the game fairly quickly and there is going to be a decrease in the number of battlefield prisoners taken and an appreciable increase in enemy KIA.

I am really wondering what has gotten into our allegedly “conservative” Republican Senator from Texas: John Corny(n)

1. Voted to confirm Geithner
2. Threw Republican Senate support to Spector over Toomey
3. Ditto Crist over Rubio
4. Proposed a bill requiring ISPs to track/record all our Web surfing for two years before deleting records
5. This week voted FOR the Sovietization of US cigarette production and sales
6. Has said NOTHING (that I have heard) about Obama’s draconian military budget CUTS during a time of war.
7. Is thus far as quiet as a mouse about the Obama Admin’s stealth exfil of known terrorists from Gitmo

With Republican “leaders” like this, we are being sold out. Since Corny(n) just won reelection, he perhaps believes he is “untouchable” for a few years. Time to start taking notes — and planning to put up a true conservo-libertarian Republican (with spine and cojones and convictions) against him in the primary in five years.

Smart power in action I guess. It’s so smart I don’t understand it…

Ya know I starting to feel like the Vietnam war ideoligy is here again. Thoes poor troops that are fighting for this country only to be stabbed in the back by the “O”.

Could this be his way of detering our young from wanting to going into the Services?

Remember everything he does has been thought out by the Liberals for years.
Do not believe these are just happening now.

Taking over our education system.
Taking over our buisnesses.
Controling the press.

And a hell of alot more.

He’ll be back in Europe as soon as possible.

And then back to the US with the rest of the former detainees to beef up the already present AQ cells. And you think the Messiah doesn’t know this? And just what is the Messiah’s endgame here?

A little imagination goes to the tell.

If we don’t have people to join the services for the defense of this country his Brown Shirts will have a open path filling the rolls.

Get your heads out. Not only is it dark up there but it stinks like S–t also.

He’ll be back in Europe as soon as possible.

Well, on the bright side, perhaps B. Hussein Obama can arrange for him to vacation in Bermuda on the way to Europe!

Truth is often the square root of what Ed writes. I’ve made a note that in Morrispeak, “free as a bird” may mean “sent to Saudi Arabia for placement in a ‘rehabilitation program’.”

Liberals have long believed that what terrorists need is rehabilitation and releasing them into society.

Two words: Willie Horton.

Obama dined with terrorists and their supporters so obviously he sees them sort of like prostitutes with hearts of gold.
We’ll be lucky if we wind up with a dozen hardened terrorists still in GITMO or some other secure facility by the end of Obama’s first term.
