[...] Hot Air Blog Archive Video: The Public Plan Deception Video: The Public Plan Deception posted at 2:14 pm on June 12, 2009 by Ed Morrissey Send to a Friend | Share on Facebook | printer-friendly The guys at Verum Serum strike again with this new video of Democrats and their think-tank allies talking about the real goal of the public plan in ObamaCare, the new health plan getting rolled out in Congress this month. The White House says the plan will keep private insurers honest, but it seems the dishonesty comes from the Oval Office and Capitol Hill: The people who designed this approach were very honest about it, as you can see in the above video. None of them talk about keeping private insurers honest; instead, theyre openly scornful of private insurance and want to rid us of them as soon as they are politically able to do so. The one couldnt even bring himself to call the public plan a Trojan Horse, so obvious is its intent. The entire premise of the public plan, as designed by its originators, was to crowd out the private insurers by undercutting them on price. After all, the government can take losses on the plan for as long as they need to drive everyone else out of the market. Once that process completes, voila! Single-payer remains as the only option. Time to get on the phones and start telling your Senators and Congressment to vote no on the public plan. We will start next week on The Ed Morrissey Show. Get ready for some activism. __________________ My Inalienable Rights were given to me by God and NOT by the Government.
[...] Democrats Health Care: A Public Deception The democrats health care bill leaked this week, it’s officially titled the Kennedy-Dodd health care plan, but regardless of who wrote the thing it stinks. Not only will it cost an estimated $1 trillion across a decade, it will also increase taxes by $600 billion. Shock I know. We also discuss how this plan is being sold as increased “competition” when in reality it will lead to a single-payer system (watch this video for proof of that). [...]

That’s an interesting problem and question by the way, but I am not sure the solution to this is NOT covering them.

Late to the party, but...

Expanded government-subsidized healthcare will accelerate the crowding-out of private health insurance. As is the case with Medicare, we will not be able to collect enough in taxes to pay market prices for treatments. Therefore the answer will be to reduce payments to doctors and hospitals and ration care.

This of course will drive up prices towards those who have the funds to pay market prices, i.e. cash payers and health insurance companies. Because most employers pay a portion of health benefits to employees, they will most likely drop coverage, opting to pay their employee the difference and let them fend for themselves. People not already on the government dole will quickly see that the public option, while lower in quality, is ultimately cheaper.

This is of course what the intention was, all along. Once government gets involved in the private sector it does not tolerate competition. It can also afford to lowball private insurance because, well, they can just raise taxes without much fallout. Increased taxes will continue to drive people away from private insurance and into the waiting hands of the poorer quality, but affordable, public option.

Mycowardice, you seem to have this idea that government actually intends to use public health care to take care of its citizens. Don't ever forget that any public program, no matter the "good intentions" its supporters try to vocalize, has only one purpose...to hook as many voters as possible so that they have no choice but to keep the enablers in power.

And of course, the endgame (as is the case with gun control, poor public education, and benefits) is to make voting irrelevant (or at least nothing more than a show, much like Iran) and to create a majority of dependent, uneducated, unarmed peasants.

So what is the solution? It's very simple. Free markets. That means phasing out Medicare, Medical, and any government interference in the health care industry. True free markets, not the over-regulated, price-controlled hybrid that Medicare and the FDA have created. Free markets will allow capital to flow back into the markets, encouraging competition and lowering prices.

And yes, that means allowing the uninsured to remain so. Free competition will allow the facilitated entry of low-priced insurance into the market. For those in real dire straits, the freeing up of capital from the elimination of Medicare will allow charitable organizations to expand operations (and will be held accountable to its donors as opposed to an unaccountable government program).

njpat, doesn't matter what the AARP LEADERSHIP thinks of Obama and the Dems.

Once their CONSTITUENTS get a look at the health care plan, they either ride the swelling wave of anger or lose their membership.

[...] There are plenty of opportunities to cut costs in the system, but raising taxes simply to spend more doesn’t solve the efficiency problems or create a better marketplace. The idea should be to make the insurance market more affordable and consider options to help those who may still struggle to obtain care. But we know that is not the intention of Obama and the left.
Don't count on AARP...they are in the tank for Obama...but they shouldn't be. Another quote from Jacob Hacker who has to be the one that came up with this awful plan..."And the faster" we get people in the government plan "the better situated we are to start the difficult but essential task of controlling long-term health spending."

Don't get old folks.....cause they'll be no healthcare for ya.

This is what Jacob Hacker has to say about how to reform healthcare. The mistake he's talking about is that Clinton didn't get this through. This clown was born in 71 and his degrees are in political science....
"Reformers shouldn’t make the same mistake this time around. Freed from the strictures of short-term budget balance, they can instead do what all other countries did when creating their national health programs: buy off the opposition. Britain’s health minister was once asked how he had gotten doctors on board for the National Health Service. His reply: “I stuffed their mouths with gold.” Money may not change everything, but it does make it easier to win friends, or at least divide and placate them."

Ace at Ace of Spades points out the end-game for the elderly in a socialized system:

http://minx.cc/?post=288505

Kill the Old

Anyone with half a brain and an eye to what's happened elsewhere around the world knows the endgame of universal coveragesocialized medicine: not just shitty, third-world standards of care and the end of drug development, well, forever but rationing -- the denial of care to those the government bureaucracy decides would cost more to treat than they're worth.

And this means, most of all, seniors -- you know, the huge voting bloc whose already government-subsidized treatments get more and more expensive as the time they have left gets shorter and shorter.

Now it's unsurprising to me that Kaus has spotted the Journolist zombies' foundation-laying for this kill-the-boomers endgame. What did surprise me was finding it in the very first draft of ZeroCare:

Health-care overhaul legislation being drafted by House Democrats will include $600 billion in tax increases and $400 billion in cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel said.

And this is, of course, the preliminary lowballing.

What's the AARP up to these days, I wonder?

Hey trolls - you think WE'RE being nasty in our assessments of your precious socialized system?

Just wait 'til the AARP gets on this.

Ever see a truly and honestly pissed off elderly person?

Why can't they be HONEST about what they want?

Why, when they get together at these think tank discussions can they say what they REALLY MEAN and then when they try to sell their plan to the American public they feel COMPELLED to lie about what their true intentions are?

Fine that the trolls here want to keep harping on the supposed 'benefits' or 'superiority' of the single payer system - that wasn't really the point of the thread, now was it?

See the Tides.org banner behind the speaker? That is the Tides Foundation, the same ones that paid back the money that Dale Rathke (Wade's brother) stole from Acorn.

Yeah, let Acorn and these left-wing organizations run healthcare, and healthcare will end up like the housing market.

NO OBAMACARE!
