Video: Glenn Beck feeds Paul Krugman an “extremist” crap sandwich

posted at 7:47 pm on June 12, 2009 by Allahpundit

Richly deserved, and I say that as someone who’s goofed on Beck’s more febrile moments myself. If you missed the Krugman column in Headlines earlier, read it now; the lying turd went out of his way to mention O’Reilly and Beck without bothering to inform his readers that the Holocaust Museum shooter evidently had murderous designs on Fox News, too. Even now, I can’t decide whether the left’s extremism blame game is being played in bad faith or in “good.” Is it a simple question of dishonesty, holding people like O’Reilly responsible in order to score cheap points against an enemy whom they secretly believe is blameless? Or does their natural condescension lead them to assume in earnest that right-wingers are essentially stupid, violent, and “easily led,” and therefore putty in the hands of people like Beck? The fact that Krugman, Frank Rich, et al. feel comfortable spitting venom at the right week after week in the NYT and then pointing fingers at FNC for “incitement” when some nut pops off can only be explained, I think, by their belief that no one who reads a cosmopolitan leftist newspaper like the Times would ever do anything as gauche as pulling a gun on someone from the other side. That is to say, this is as much about Krugman’s and his audience’s perceptions of their own elitism as anything else. Either that or Krugman thinks he’s incapable of inciting anyone because he’s incapable of persuading anyone. In which case it’s high time he found a new line of work, no?

Exit question via Christine Flowers: How come all jihadist killers act alone but all “right-wing” killers have a million accomplices?

Saw it tonight and heard it today on his radio show. Krugman is an idiot who should be placed in those FEMA camps that don’t exist.

Go Glenn!

Lisa on June 12, 2009 at 7:53 PM

Or does their natural condescension lead them to assume in earnest that right-wingers are essentially stupid, violent, and “easily led,” and therefore putty in the hands of people like Beck?

Well, duh. This is what the left believes about EVERYONE, which is why they don’t trust any individuals with any decision and are always looking for some “authority” to declare what should be done (and rain terror on those who disagree).

On top of this very fundamental aspect of leftist ideology, they are also dishonest, disingenuous, lying scum – which is why they don’t trust anyone else.

If you want to know about a leftist, just understand that projection is their main intellectual tool.

On his program yesterday, he had the chalk board out with dates and his predictions that turned out to be right including his prediction about BinLaden, the collapse of GM and the housing bubble bust that he predicted in 2003.

He went all the way back to 1997.

Knucklehead on June 12, 2009 at 8:03 PM

Good for Glenn.

Its time we started giving the left as good as we are getting. The time for playing polite with those who are supporting the destruction of our nation has come to an end.

What is more, it appears that our shooter was a confirmed lefty:

Pretty much so. Krugman is on a mission. There is a purpose to his life everyday and you have just listed the two reasons he gets out of bed every morning. I ignore people like him and Matthews who will eventually spin themselves into a rubber room.

sherry on June 12, 2009 at 8:15 PM

I’m glad people like Glenn are finally hitting back and especially glad that people are starting to realize the Left’s game of getting the Right to self-censor.

The fear of what the Left and the State Control Media will say, is how they control what we say. That is their game and unfortunately way too many on the Right play it and fastidiously follow the Left’s rules for them in doing so. It’s a marvelous form of self censorship that leads people to fear speaking out and worse, defending the indefeasible in order to give the appearance of being “fair” and “honest.” It’s dangerous and self defeating.

TheBigOldDog on June 12, 2009 at 8:16 PM

Seriously though, I’ve asked before and not sure I’ve gotten any clear answer – What exactly is your apparent beef with Beck? While a lot of people recommended I listen to Beck over the years, I only started paying attention to him when he joined Fox and I have to say, I (and many others) feel he’s the only one who’s really talking about just what is going on. He makes O’Reilly look like some asleep at the wheel MSM turd. I don’t listen to him often, but I’d say Rush can’t even come close to touching Beck.

Someone should post the video one day of Tim Russert’s old CNBC show when he had Bill O’Reilly and Paul Krugman on the show for an hour. Krugman spent the entire show with a look in his eyes like O’Reilly was going to jump out of his chair any moment and beat him to a pulp and/or eat him.

It’s a lot easier to write drivel like Friday’s Times’ column when you’re safe in your Princeton bunker (or safe to make comments like that on “This Week”, when you know the worst you’re going to get is a pithy rebuke from George Will).

Knucklehead on June 12, 2009 at 8:22 PM

They are Obama and Napolitano fascist lackeys. Once you see that it all falls into place.

If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.

TheBigOldDog on June 12, 2009 at 8:38 PM

Beck is like a latter-day John the Baptist.

He works because he gets that there is a lot of latter day populist outrage out there. Beck gets that there is a huge disappointment among the people with Bushism and its flight from accountability and authenticity.

What Beck understands that a lot of liberals don’t get is this: Obama’s support is a mile wide and and an inch deep. Liberals are insistent that people line up and support the Division Street Duce without question. Witness Wanda Sykes’ telling remark about Rush Limbaugh’s remarks being “treasonous”.

They were offhand remarks at a dinner for Teh Won, but they are a tell, in that they betray liberal unease at their long term political position and legitimacy. Olbermann’s insistent rage is another tell that gives away unease in power. He wasted 15 minutes going after Palin tonight in an attempt to rationalize David Letterman’s conduct, while Palin has moved on to other things.

There are things that liberals do that just give the game away.

To expand about Beck and Bush: Beck started going after Republicans under Bush because of Bush’s spending. Bush lost his support among Conservatives because of his abandonment of Reaganite principles. This is what I mean by Beck’s break with “Bushism”.

One of the reasons that Bush left office at 30% popularity was that he lost conservatives over spending.

No, Bush lost his support among conservatives because of the whole immigration thing.

I seem to remember that there was a Republican Congress back then as well, and they actually spent the money, and when Bush did veto a bill, they over rode it.

The problem with going after the GOP at that time was that it only helped make Pelosi and Reid leaders in the Congress. And they make the previous Congress look down right frugal. And Obama makes Bush look like Scrooge.

The phonies like Krugman are easy to see and address. It’s the sneaky phonies that you’ve got to worry about. You know, the people who grin to your face and stab you in the back the minute you turn around. Those are the truly dangerous ones.

Krugman is like Olbermann, Eric Altermann or blogger/columnists like Glenn Greenwald: tent revival preachers for the Converted. Their job is to reinforce the convictions of the True Believers in Berkeley, Madison, and the East Villiage. Unfortunately, there are lots of lefties out there, and they have something the DNC needs: Disposable Income.

Now you know why they do what they do. I mean, it’s not that they don’t believe what they believe-they do and they are sincere in their wrongheadedness. But there’s a fundraising food-chain aspect to this that people haven’t considered.

I am sure that’s probably true. Honestly until 9/11 I probably didn’t give a flying flip about the border. After that there seemed to be a large gaping hole in our security.
