Ramirez: The new waterboarding

posted at 2:54 pm on June 12, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Pulitzer- and Reuben-award winning editorial cartoonist Michael Ramirez notes the subtle change of the Obama administration on waterboarding.  And note the clever reference to Fletch:

In the movie Fletch, the main character sticks Ted Underhill with a $400 lunch tab while posing undercover at a posh country club.  Now, we’re Ted Underhill.

Ramirez has a terrific collection of his works: Everyone Has the Right to My Opinion, which covers the entire breadth of Ramirez’ career, and it gives a fascinating look at political history.  Read my review here, and watch my interviews with Ramirez here and here.  And don’t forget to check out the entire IBD site, while individual investors still exist.

I wish I could laugh, but I’m going to be paying for it.

Upstater85 on June 12, 2009 at 3:00 PM

I was in a very urban area this morning and passed a car with a Rosie-the-Riveter bumper sticker that said, “Up Yours Obama.”

I was really surprised.

BigD on June 12, 2009 at 3:01 PM

Ramirez is awesome.

I wish they would pay for me to go to Palau or the Bahamas…just have to commit an act of terrorism, I guess…

Not great surf in the Bahamas and Palau (generally, although I am sure you can catch a wave off the reefs) but that pretty much sums things up.

If you are a white, non-Muslim, non-Bill Ayers American, I wouldn’t recommend committing any forms of terrorism during Dream-Team Administration. Unless you plan on blowing up churches…

Upstater85 on June 12, 2009 at 3:04 PM

The Fletch reference just makes this so much better…

You mean that we’re not sending them to a place where they can surf freely? How unconscionable! We should be ashamed of ourselves and someone should resign.

I hope the new staff at the Gitmo Paradise Hotel remember to Mirandize their captured illegal enemy combatants valued guests prior to check in, after all we wouldn’t want to jeopardize their rights to a great vacation at tax payers expense!

It does, but I wouldn’t have recognized it on my own. Thanks for pointing it out, Ed.

If only Obama treated the homeless and other poor Americans as well as he did its enemies.

I’m surprised there weren’t break-INs to Gitmo.

Also, recall the story of stations established by our Army in Iraq to hold terrorists and offer them education while they were in custody. The majority of those who were held decided they didn’t want to leave those camps, they were so well treated with respect by our troops.

As proven in all his dealings, though Obama considers himself in possession of the Midas Touch, he turns everything and everyone against America. Rather than enriching our nation, the only ones benefiting from Obama’s corrupt touch are global Marxists.

If George Will is right, and cartoons are “the most effective means of seizing a mass audience’s attention”, then we need to start sending campaign donations to Ramirez.

golfballs03 on June 12, 2009 at 3:21 PM

Michael Ramirez, thank you so much for making me laugh.

Clearly, Ramirez is on his Zionist crusade to make Those of the Peas-ful Book look like welfare leaching surfers.

Fletch54 on June 12, 2009 at 3:27 PM

Ramirez must feel like the luckiest guy in the whole wide world. He’s got all this low hanging fruit and no competition. It’s easy living for Ramirez for a while since I doubt anyone is the State Run Media (SRM) will dare poke fun at The One.

TheBigOldDog on June 12, 2009 at 3:27 PM

The Palau GDP is only $160M. So $200M is greater than the total output of the whole country. Hey my town in Louisiana would love to have them for only $199M.

Gators got to eat too!

Actually I’d broaden that to ridicule in general. Nothing is more effective than truth-based ridicule in creating lasting impressions. That how and why Palin got whacked so hard by the SNL stuff…

Methinks SouthernGal is a former Brokeback Mountain refugee who went on a “Chad” Bono-type gender-bender some time in the not too distant past. Or is that in the future?

In any event, certainly not to be confused with SouthernGent.

I just wish people in MY OWN FAMILY would be able to understand what these cartoons were saying…

I still think they should have sent them to Alcatraz for safe keeping. There’s got to be some free-thinking, highly irritated at the government, bomber crew out there that wouldn’t mind dropping a load or two on Alcatraz. It would save us a couple hundred million in care and feeding of the prisoners AND take an extra expense off the parks service.

Driefromseattle on June 12, 2009 at 6:38 PM

Oh but I forgot: They are now given the right to Due Process!! Bombing them is sorta kinda contrary to that…would have been nice. Anybody else wanna go on a “covert op”? :)

The Hot Air troll cried, as it hunkered down,
In a state of wild alarm -
With a frightful, frantic, fearful frown,
Ed bared his big right arm.
He seized it by his silly nick-name,
And on its knees it fell,
As it squirmed and struggled,
And gurgled and guggled,
He sent it straight to Hell,
To Posting Hell!

Oh, never shall I
Forget my cry
Of joy when Ed’s hammer fell,
When Southern Gal,
Our erstwhile “pal”,
Was sent to Posting Hell!
