Where do those “created or saved” job numbers originate?
posted at 8:05 am on June 11, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Joe Biden couldn’t answer that question, saying that the answer was “above his pay grade,” even though he’s got the second-highest pay grade in the executive branch. Barack Obama, who has the only higher pay grade, won’t explain his “saved or created” statistics, either. We all know the actual answer: Obama’s team calculated that spending X amount would “create or save” X jobs, and they’re sticking with the formula even while unemployment skyrockets and reveals their utterly useless pronouncements.
Under those circumstances, Chris Muir hits it pretty close to the mark:

I’m surprised that Obama hasn’t yet figured out that he could just as easily claim that he’s “created or saved” 130 million jobs. After all, if we hadn’t elected Obama, every single one of us could have lost our jobs. Can we prove that we wouldn’t have gotten fired? If he wants to pull stats out of his nether regions, why not just go for the whole enchilada?

Couple the unemployment figures with gas prices going through the roof and Obama will have some serious splainin to do.
The silver lining in all of this is his popularity will start to nosedive which will make socialized healthcare and crap-and-trade much harder to pass.
Doughboy on June 11, 2009 at 8:11 AM
With liberals (which includes socialists like the filthy liar in the White House) actually accomplishing something like saving real jobs isn’t important. All that matters is the intent to save X number of jobs. Once you’ve stated your intent, you chalk it up as an accomplished fact, and move on. In short, Obama uses the same accounting system that Bernie Madoff used.

The Obama administration doesn’t explain bad news, it creates distractions. Bad unemployment numbers means more gaffes from Biden, more travel outside the US for Obama, and Michelle Obama’s arms will get a fifty city tour of their own.

To answer your question, Ed, like any good con man Obama has an intuitive sense of how far he can go without completely giving the game away and losing the mark. I speculate that Obama and his team picked numbers at or near the top of the remotely plausible range and don’t dare go higher. By the way I love that comic strip!

This is all just fluff – the real pain is coming – and he won’t be able to put makeup on to cover the wounds.
Why do you think he’s running so fast to get Sotomeyer confirmed and the Health Care Plan passed? Answer – dude knows he running out of time. Support for his policies is gone – and soon, support for his charm and charisma will follow. After that – he’s a besieged President – because the Democrats will turn on him. No honor amongst theives.
Cap and Trade? I don’t think we’ll have to worry about it. GM making little tiny cars? We won’t have to worry about it.
Only thing we have to worry about is killing Health Care – he may have enough head of steam to plow that through. After that – his reactor is “scrammed”.

I agree with what you are saying, the honeymoon is over and Obama has yet to get serious about the issues. The fact that he’s out in Wisc. campaigning for nationalized healthcare with public appearances (instead of building a concensus coalition with legislators and the industry leaders) shows just how unfit for office he is. He just doesn’t get it.
That being said, I think you overestimate the public’s expectations. For some reason, Obama is not being held accountable for all the very bad things that have already occurred in his administration. Why should that change now?

I have personally created or saved hundreds of millions of jobs, because, had I not been born, the clinical test which ushered in a new drug that prevented a pandemic would never have been completed. Had that pandemic occurred, millions upon millions would have lost their jobs due to being dead, and their offspring, who would not come into being, would not be able to be employed, either. Or at least, it is impossible or extremely difficult for you to prove otherwise.

Just watch as the unemployment numbers keep getting worse, he will inflate that number a few times over. By late summer he will be claiming 250-300,000 jobs saved by the stimulus. Remember he is going fullt tilt to get even more money spent quicker to attempt to stave off even worse numbers. The economy is in the tank, and if the MSM were truthful they would be reporting that we are by definition in a depression not a “very bad recesion”. He is going to have a very very bad summer.

TexasJew on June 11, 2009 at 8:41 AM
To the contrary, he bought his second and possibly third terms though your great grandkids futures.
He was able to funnel billions to his special interest groups like ACORN. He gave the UAW an auto company of their very own. He’s also going to backdoor socialized healthcare and amnesty. The stimulus bill was all about paying off his loyalists through breaking up the USA and giving away the pieces to like-minded socialists.
Never thought I’d see the day where I consider the POTUS one of those domestic enemies the Presidential oath talks about but this administration is definitely working overtime to destroy America.

The numbers came from the wild imaginations and wishful thinking of the Obama crowd.
And trying to pad the number by creating make-work, dead end summer jobs out of thin air as Obama announced the other day cost a lot more than it is worth. It is another naked attempt to buy votes. The money is aimed for the ACORN crowd, high school and college students. Does it not achieve the same goal by letting the families keep more of their own money by keeping government spending and taxes down. The families can spend the money as they need to create the multiplier effect just as well. That way everyone benefits, not only the family with high school and college kids.

So the economy is at a standstill? Could it be Obama’s policies have ALL businesses on standby to determine what he will try to overthrow next? Spending out of a recession is still bad policy? So Keynes is still wrong?
I wonder what would happen if he CUT taxes for business?

The thing is, there is a tipping point. The more people at home during the day listening to the lies eminating from the White House, the greater the outrage. It will be impotent outrage but at some point even the deaf Democrats will have to understand that they have a “people problem.”
It will be at that point the career politicians in Congress start breaking away from lockstep approval of the filthy liar’s agenda. There will definitely be casualties in the 2010 election cycle. The question is how many Democrats are going to be willing to fall on their sword for Obama and how many will be able to get out of the way in time.

We’ve seen Congressional Democrats create much of the economic mess through Fannie/Freddie and walk away as if they had nothing to do with the meltdown. We’ve seen financial services and automobile executives treated like criminals in hearings. We’ve seen the administration take over two automobile manufacturers and give one away to the unions as a thank you gift for their support in the last election. We’ve seen the draft proposal that would destroy healthcare with the added bonus of higher labor costs for businesses.
The Obama administration is just about as anti-business as you can get. We might as well be in Venezuela, Cuba, or Zimbabwe. It is small wonder that businesses are stagnant right now. They have no faith in this administration and neither should anybody else.

Well if polls are any indication, Obama is being held accountable. Ignore the personal popularity nonsense. The real substantive numbers are the ones regarding his policies and the majority of the public is not down with all the spending, especially with nothing to show for it. And his foreign policy numbers ain’t so hot either.
Ultimately, Obama will be held accountable on Election Day in 2010 and 2012. And I don’t care how many folks think he’s cool or speaks well when aided by a teleprompter. If the economy is in the toilet, he and his party will suffer.

Trafalgar on June 11, 2009 at 9:01 AM
Unfortunately, the public isn’t making the connection. They hate all the stuff Obama is doing but aren’t holding him accountable to the extent that they should. It’s much the way that Congress has been in the 20% range for approval ratings for some time and yet we don’t see wholesale change in elections results.
What I am hoping for is a groundswell of anger that peaks just before the midterm elections in 2010. It would change the whole dynamic in DC and force the administration to do something other than get all this massive spending rubber stamped by a party line vote. Obama claims to be a great negotiator…. I’d like to see the bastard have to work with the GOP if he wants any relevance for the last two years of his first (and only IMO) term.

The polling numbers are finally indicating that the light bulb is starting to go on in a lot of people’s minds. Unfortunately they are usually standing in the unemployment line when they realize that Obama has just been playing a shell game with them.
Obama and his administration know they are playing games. They now know that the general population knows they are playing games. They simply don’t care that people know. They don’t care that people don’t agree. They don’t care that people are begining to protest. They don’t care that their games are not in the best interest of the majority of the population.
As far as Obama is concerned he won, he has the power, and he will get his way. It simply does not matter to him what WE THE PEOPLE want.
So, what does WE THE PEOPLE do about the situation? Obama fully expects WE THE PEOPLE to do nothing.

Limbaugh made an interesting point the other day about Obama’s unverifiable saved jobs.
He threw out his own pseudo-factoid that he has saved at least 40 million (not sure of the #) during his 20+ years on the radio. His radio show has helped keep business owners motivated thereby saving millions of jobs over the years that otherwise would have been lost.
It may sound hokey, but it puts Obama’s created or saved 4 million jobs into perspective, doesn’t it?

Dead on. I hate to admit it but I am quite surprised that the cover came off this early in his term. I thought for sure there would be a good two years of media/Axelrod spin that would keep the masses in a delirous state. But the rubber has hit the road very quickly. One can listen to the media lies all day long but at the end of the day, the amount of money in your bank account is the reality of your life, not the drama of our Actor-in-Chief.

I was kinda sorta ready to give Obama a chance because I was worn out by the culture wars and I was ready to give these irresponsible back seat drivers a chance to see if they could do better. Yes, I did vote for McCain but I was ready for the country to unite and move forward.
Obama lost me in record time with his patent dishonesty on the stimulus. He claimed that it was an emergency, let Nancy Pelosi write the bill, took 5 days to sign it and the media ignored the fact that most of the money won’t get spent until 2010. The stimulus was particularly poorly designed as a permanent liberal wish list social spending.

Federal tax revenue plunged $138 billion, or 34%, in April vs. a year ago — the biggest April drop since 1981, a study released Tuesday by the American Institute for Economic Research says.
LONDON (Reuters) – The dollar fell to a 2009 low on Friday as fears intensified that the United States could lose its triple-A rating, while renewed caution about the world economy and banks prompted Asian and European stocks to slip.
Under President Barack Obama’s budget plan, the federal debt is exploding. To be precise, it is rising – and will continue to rise – much faster than gross domestic product, a measure of America’s ability to service it. The federal debt was equivalent to 41 per cent of GDP at the end of 2008; the Congressional Budget Office projects it will increase to 82 per cent of GDP in 10 years. With no change in policy, it could hit 100 per cent of GDP in just another five years.
Social Security and Medicare are fading even faster under the weight of the recession, heading for insolvency years sooner than previously expected, the government warned Tuesday. Social Security will start paying out more in benefits than it collects in taxes in 2016, a year sooner than projected last year, and the giant trust fund will be depleted by 2037, four years sooner, trustees reported.
Medicare is in even worse shape. The trustees said the program for hospital expenses will pay out more in benefits than it collects this year, just as it did for the first time in 2008. The trustees project that the Medicare fund will be depleted by 2017, two years earlier than the date projected in last year’s report.
Treasury auctions have been a bust and interest rates are hitting around 4% now.

We are paying them… maybe they can count inmates, too? But that’s beside the point. Obama doesn’t even bother to attempt to count, because somewhere in the foggy recesses of his brain, he understands intuitively that this can’t work.
I mean, he’s trying to train people for Green Jobs? I can train you to work in a wind turbine assembly line in about half an hour. Now all you have to do is find a wind turbine assembly plant that’s hiring. In your area, because you can’t sell your house right now.

Welcome to how I felt yesterday when they announced Obama was giving Miranda rights to terrorists.

I thought after the last apology tour he was declared to BE God.

I personally saved over a million jobs in 2008 by not becoming a terrorist and bombing shopping malls.

Interesting how when “da Bush” was president we always heard in the media how “real unemployment” was way higher than official unemployment (which was for most of the time sub 6%, or nearly full employment). The liberals in the media cried “but real unemployment is closer to 10 or 12 percent!”. Funny how I haven’t heard them mention that the real unemployment at this point is “closer to 16 or 18 percent!”. Is that statistic just BS or are they covering for the boss?

Here’s the U6 data set from the Bureau of Labor Statistics
This includes the much valued “under employed” numbers touted by the media during Republican administrations. According to my calculations, we’ve seen a spike of 17.99% since January.
To be sure, employment numbers are lagging indicators but
I’m holding my breath for the headline bemoaning The Hidden Costs of Obamanomics….
Funny, I searched everywhere but was unable to locate the “saved jobs” data set.

Yes, they can see him. They have figured out how to tax the invisible people, to generate the pretend money that they are spending on pretend projects to generate those pretend jobs that have been created or saved.
The invisible pea is under the middle shell. Bet on it. They promise…
You just need to show some imagination.

Obummer has created tons of jobs. Have you counted how many Czars are in D.C now? And he’s saved the jobs of all the tax cheats on his cabinet.

He is actually protecting all us little people whose jobs are threatened by understating the real numbers in order to stave off the flow of illegals into the country, See, that way we get first crack at the hundreds of millions of jobs he is saving and creating with his plan. Whataguy!

“Created, Saved, or STOLEN?”
Like “I saved my ex’s life yesterday,,,I controlled myself.”

Since He is driving us all to drink more, he is creating more jobs at the brewery.

It happened in New York. Perhaps it can happen in DC. Maybe some blue dog Dems will reach the panic stage soon when they see the numbers on the wall that predict their re-election potential in 2010.
What would happen if a number decide self-preservation involves crossing the isle and slowing down or halting this madness?
How many purple-state-dems are beginning to sweat blood in private? None, a few, or a lot?
