New Miss California: Marriage is between a man and a woman

posted at 9:10 pm on June 11, 2009 by Allahpundit

Ah, the irony. If only it were true. The transcript makes it sound like she agrees with Cavuto when he suggests marriage is for straights only, but after watching the clip it looks to me like she’s vacantly trying to come up with the most politic response possible. Skip ahead to 2:55. She does say “mm hmm” when he asks her, but it’s almost as if she didn’t hear the question, especially given how quickly she moves to qualify her answer. Which, by the way, is incoherent:

“I don’t think that I have the right or anybody has a right to tell somebody who they can or can’t love. And I think that this is a civil rights issue. And I think that the right thing to do is let the voters decide.”

No one has the right to tell anyone whom they can marry — except, um, the voters. Better study those flashcards a little more closely before the next interview.

Carrie Prejean’s on with Hannity tonight (which should be airing as I post this) to explain how, contra what pageant officials claim, she met all of her responsibilities as Miss Cali. In that case, how come she just got canned by a clothing company too for failing to fulfill her promotional duties? Hmmm.

Blowback

If you have five dollars and Carrie Prejean has five dollars, Carrie Prejean has more money than you.

There is no ‘ctrl’ button on Carrie Prejean’s computer. Carrie Prejean is always in control.

Apple pays Carrie Prejean 99 cents every time she listens to a song.

Carrie Prejean can sneeze with her eyes open.

Carrie Prejean can eat just one Lay’s potato chip.

Carrie Prejean is suing Myspace for taking the name of what she calls everything around you.

Carrie Prejean destroyed the periodic table, because she only recognizes the element of surprise.

Carrie Prejean can kill two stones with one bird.

This new girl is no Carrie Prejean.

Why do any of you care what any of these airheaded beauty queens think about anything? Prejean doesn’t seem completely moronic, but it’s not like she deserved the platform her opinion on some irrelevant fringe issue provided for her. But all the attention suddenly paid to her supposedly bold stance and never-before-heard insight made her forget that nobody’s really interested in much more than ogling her in a bikini.

Surely Cavuto has something more relevant to discuss, or at least someone more worthy of interviewing.

Sign of the Dollar on June 11, 2009 at 10:19 PM

Obama is hijacking the economy and trying to destroy the most successful economic system in the history of the planet… but where would we be if Cavuto didn’t investigate the insights available from the runner-up of a state beauty contest?

The Constitution can wait! How would Miss South Dakota handle the situation in Iran? It is in that kind of digging that real journalism makes a difference.

Thanks very much. Have read through those. I’m starting a “watch list” of commentators who are nonconforming, and sometimes post trollish comments, but may or may not be trolls. Some are very difficult for me to figure out, for example the so-called “concern trolls.”

And then, there are commentators who are not conservative or libertarian, but are not trolls. They just have very different views. Finally, conservatives and libertarians are often very individual thinkers who will not conform on one or many of “our issues.” It’s difficult for all of us to express an opinion without offending at least someone, at least sometime.

So, while other’s may have different views on such a list list, I only want to list those whose behavior is overtly and almost uniformly that of a troll. I’ll keep it handy with links to several examples of their behavior. God knows whether ti will be of any use, but it does help me keep a little bit better track of the goings on here.

New Ms CA on Greta was a bit clearer than on Cavuto. She said it was a civil rights issue. She supports rights for everyone. And so forth and so on without saying a “yes” or “no” to Greta. My guess is she does not care, and is on the side of those who support her. Those who support her, support gay marriage. Therefore, the new MS CA is for gay marriage.

“concern trolls.”

Former senator Tom Daschle was always concerned.

And then, there are commentators who are not conservative or libertarian, but are not trolls. They just have very different views. Finally, conservatives and libertarians are often very individual thinkers who will not conform on one or many of “our issues.”

Tammy Bruce said leading conservatives is like trying to herd cats. That is as it should be in America. The one missing piece is leadership. For me, it makes more sense to categorize as leftist vs. non-leftist. The leftists are the Ozombie lock-steppers — those who speak in mantras. Change is possible for some of them, but mainly they are locked into their political religion and unreachable.

Non-leftists run the gamut due to different information and life-experiences. HA is a non-leftist site where people can share and have differences of opinion.

Outside the framework of the left, it’s no big deal to disagree when there is honest reasoning or related experience.

Some of the most interesting conversations I’ve ever had is with thoughtful, patient, caring people who completely disagree with me on many, many things. I learn this way.

I see no reason to target certain individuals because they disagree, or are sometimes disagreeable, or sometimes go off the topic of a conversation, as I have done here. (Please forgive me, Allahpundit.) However, the trolls of Hot Air, using a narrow and technical definition, can be very frustrating, infuriating and sickening on a regular basis. It’s those commentators that trouble me.

Loxodonta on June 12, 2009 at 1:30 AM

If Ms. Prejean did not have a contract and her lawyer was in the middle of clarifying Trump’s request when they fired her, then she should sue for breach of contract and defamation of character.

I always voted Democratic, but good gravy, I never meant that I agreed with everything.
AnninCA on June 12, 2009 at 1:09 AM

Never meant to suggest you did. As far as parties go, I’ve been a lot harder on Republicans for denying voters a choice by playing the lesser-of-evils card. The two-headed hydra has things rigged into one ruling class.

This new world of highly defined labeling and partisanship and such anger is really quite beyond me.

No labeling system is perfect, but leftist vs. non-leftist is an alternative that makes more sense to me. At worst, leftists are patently dishonest, emotion based, and anti-logic. At best, they are well-meaning people who discarded absolutes. They are angered and dumb-founded by the resistance of those who don’t like society being constantly up-ended to satisfy their changing visions of “nice.”

Non-leftist covers a lot of territory, including liberals who might change their minds when exposed to new information and proof. I thought that definition might be useful to Loxondata as there was confusion about posters.

Sometimes liberals make observations I find startling in their accuracy, though I disagree with their remedies. These are puzzles that I’ve learned to give consideration as they help me improve my own “model” of what’s going on.

Ann, I grew up in a Democrat family too. My father was a staunch union Democrat, a huge bigot, an alcoholic and wife beater. I also grew up in a Catholic family. My parents had us attend a parish school where we learned all about God as we should. Of course, love for your neighbor ended if he was black or Hispanic. Funny, the other white kids parents I hung out with were mostly white, Catholic, bigoted and Democratic too. Since I couldn’t come up with a reason to hate those “damned n or those wet b”, I decided to become a conservative Republican. I switched to Lutheran, (the Conservative NOT baby killer loving synod type), when my dad died when I was 18 and I tried to have the funeral at church, but alas, we were having a bad year and were behind in our “volunteer contributions”.
So you see, Democrats aren’t really like bugs under a microscope to me, they look like my idiot Obama loving, yet still bigoted, Democrat relatives, just looking for their government handouts. P. S. Just so it makes some sense, they claim as a Muslim, he isn’t really black.

Jeff from WI on June 12, 2009 at 10:09 AM

Marriage should be between whoever a church wants it to be. The state should not be involved. As long as the state sticks it’s nose into marriage, who are we to say that Islamic law is wrong?

The economic side of relationships can easily be handled by contract. Churches could provide forms that are required to marry in that religion. Like any other contract, the law should not protect a party from ignorance but fraud is a different story.

That leaves parental rights and responsibilities. Those are already supposed to be handled independent of economics. I believe it is as simple as mandating that bio or adopted parents are responsible for their children and that parental rights will be divided in a specified manner unless the best interests of the child(ren) dictate a different outcome. Parents who tolerated the other before a break should face a high burden to demonstrate unfitness to parent once things break down. The current gamesmanship in seeking “custody” to penalize or rob the other party needs to end. I’d advocate a licensure procedure (paid entirely by litigants’ fees) by which mental health professionals could apply to be on a rotating board of review in cases in which any psychological argument is being made. Judges do not have the training to evaluate the medical facts and the hired guns that testify do not benefit the children.

There’s absolutely no biblical basis for this, at all. You have a right to believe this, but don’t claim to be a Christian and promote the idea of personal peace and affluency, since it is the polar opposite of everything in the bible.
