Kathleen Parker: Palin kind of asked for those nasty Letterman jokes, didn’t she?
posted at 4:45 pm on June 11, 2009 by Allahpundit
Via Gateway Pundit, an uncannily similar reprise of Bonnie Erbe’s shot at Michelle, with Parker in the Erbe role and Palin standing in for MM. Yes indeed, says Parker, Letterman’s “slutty flight attendant” joke was over the line. But that’s what Palin gets for winking at Rich Lowry during her VP debate with Biden or something:
[Question]: Listen, Letterman is a comedian. Comedians that don’t go over the line are not funny. If you said she looks slutty, that’s over the line. If I say it, it’s over the line. Why wouldn’t Letterman say it – have you been on a plane?
Kathleen Parker: I don’t have a problem with raunchy humor, but time and place are everything. In a nightclub, fine. But Letterman is sort of an American institution. It just seems to me that when a woman is running for public office, we should avoid sexualizing her.
Okay, I censored myself before so I’ll say it now. I also think it’s out of line for a woman to sexualize her candidacy, which Palin did. Just ask Rich Lowry, who wrote that he had to sit up a little straighter when she winked during the vp debate. So, maybe when you play the flirt and invite males to see starbursts bouncing off the walls (Lowry again), then maybe you invite the sexual punchline. I’m wobbling here.
Yes, surely Palin winking at a debate eight months ago is what Letterman was aiming at with the “slut” joke, not the combination of her being young, beautiful, and an ignorant low-class hick as caricatured by the intelligentsia. She asked for it. Go collect your feminist merit badge, Kathleen.
To cleanse the palate of Parker’s bile, I’ll give you a choice of sorbets: Claire McCaskill defending Palin on Twitter; Jim Treacher taking off the gloves against Letterman in the Greenroom; or the boss on Fox & Friends this morning fitting this incident neatly into the liberal-sexism oeuvre.

anyone notice that Palin scored a HUGE victory for the oil pipeline in Alaska today?? the media needs to talk about that, because this really shows the good work she is doing up there.

The old rape defense, she was asking for it. And in both cases it is woman making the case for the Men…weird huh the state of feminism seems to be defending indefensible jerks?
Well in an Orwellian World everything means the opposite.

I’m just curious, why is it that “the Boss” refuses to ever do interviews on Fox News opposite a liberal Democrat so they can debate the hot-topics of today? Not comfortable? Only able to agree with the opinions of the hosts and nothing serious to add on her own?
What’s wrong? Unable to stand up to the heat. Funny how conservatives love to claim that they can easily win arguments against liberals but when they show up on Fox the hosts do their best to shield them from having to debate any of those mean old lefties.

Odd, isn’t it, how – when a woman chooses to be Conservative, stand up on her own, and have her own opinion – she is denounced by Socialist women? But, if she chooses to exterminate the baby in her own womb, or if she chooses to marry another woman – she is upheld as the epitome of the liberated woman.

Apparently a ride in Air Force One is all it takes to push a “conservative” columnist to advocacy of the classic argument used to justify rape.

I seem to recall that the big wink during the debate came when Palin was addressing an elementary school class. I could be wrong – anyone else remember?
Never forget, when assessing Kathleen Parker’s commentaries, that she confessed outright to “hating” Sarah Palin. Parker’s word. No self-respecting news organization – or web site – should concern itself with Parker’s opinions. She’s twisted on the subject beyond reason, by her own admission.

Kathleen Parker is pathetic beyond words. The fact that a major newspaper continues to publish this fanatic Palin hater’s weekly bile is bad enough, but the fact that National Review (yes, that National Review!) continues to link to this excrement is even worse.
I noticed that this “renowed” conservative magazine is doing their annual online fundraising, but I will not give a dime until Parker is removed from their columnist roll. I suggest you do the same.

RobCon on June 11, 2009 at 4:59 PM
During the past two years it has been interesting to watch Hillary, Palin and their critics. The rules of engagement are being worked out regarding what grounds a woman can be attacked on.
To what extent can a woman be knocked on account of her sexuality–either for seeming too sexless or too flirty?
It will probably take another ten years to sift through enough female candidates and enough attacks.
dedalus on June 11, 2009 at 4:59 PM
I think the libs that go on FOX refuse to be opposite Michelle Malkin, because she will completely destroy them if they can’t shout her down.
The same way that no liberal news outlets want to talk about Liberty and Tyranny, now #1 on NYT best seller list for the 10th week in a row, yet still not a review from the NYT.
Funny, that selective outrage from liberals, isn’t it?

Pathetic excuse. The only one who called her a “whore” was the crackpot from the “New Black Panther Party”, which is not someone who was intended to make a serious argument “for the left”. It would be like CNN bringing on a survivalist, anti-goverment militia crank to debate opposite a Democrat.
Malkin can’t win debates with the other side, so she avoids them. The only “democrat” who was ever allowed to debate Malkin on Fox was Kirsten Powers, a pro-life conservative who replied to everything she said with the opening words, “I agree with everything Michelle said and…”
Conservatives need to stop hiding on Fox like cowards.

It is very sad and frustrating to us women who have spent a lifetime in politics and are still waiting for that last glass ceiling to be broken. And it has been infuriating to watch Barack Obama and his all-male, all-white political team first go after Hillary Clinton with the basest kind of sexist attacks, and then turn the same acid hose on to Sarah Palin. So America rejected two of the most accomplished women ever in public office, to elect a cipher with no experience and and obvious hatred of women. Poor Kathleen Parker. Has she never heard of, let alone been a party to, a friendly wink? You know, a wink between friends, between a parent and child, signalling some shared agreement or knowledge while excluding others present from the ‘secret’.
But I think that what this is really all about is that women on the national stage can’t win. They are sexualized the minute they step onto it by the media no matter what they do or don’t do. Hilary Clinton was ridiculed for wearing pant suits, and if she didn’t jokes were made about her ankles, her cleavage was scrutinized, and so on. And it’s even worse with Sarah Palin because she is a very attractive woman.
And Kathleen Parker is too stupid to see this.
