Kathleen Parker: Palin kind of asked for those nasty Letterman jokes, didn’t she?
posted at 4:45 pm on June 11, 2009 by Allahpundit
Via Gateway Pundit, an uncannily similar reprise of Bonnie Erbe’s shot at Michelle, with Parker in the Erbe role and Palin standing in for MM. Yes indeed, says Parker, Letterman’s “slutty flight attendant” joke was over the line. But that’s what Palin gets for winking at Rich Lowry during her VP debate with Biden or something:
[Question]: Listen, Letterman is a comedian. Comedians that don’t go over the line are not funny. If you said she looks slutty, that’s over the line. If I say it, it’s over the line. Why wouldn’t Letterman say it – have you been on a plane?
Kathleen Parker: I don’t have a problem with raunchy humor, but time and place are everything. In a nightclub, fine. But Letterman is sort of an American institution. It just seems to me that when a woman is running for public office, we should avoid sexualizing her.
Okay, I censored myself before so I’ll say it now. I also think it’s out of line for a woman to sexualize her candidacy, which Palin did. Just ask Rich Lowry, who wrote that he had to sit up a little straighter when she winked during the vp debate. So, maybe when you play the flirt and invite males to see starbursts bouncing off the walls (Lowry again), then maybe you invite the sexual punchline. I’m wobbling here.
Yes, surely Palin winking at a debate eight months ago is what Letterman was aiming at with the “slut” joke, not the combination of her being young, beautiful, and an ignorant low-class hick as caricatured by the intelligentsia. She asked for it. Go collect your feminist merit badge, Kathleen.
To cleanse the palate of Parker’s bile, I’ll give you a choice of sorbets: Claire McCaskill defending Palin on Twitter; Jim Treacher taking off the gloves against Letterman in the Greenroom; or the boss on Fox & Friends this morning fitting this incident neatly into the liberal-sexism oeuvre.

Okay, I’m late to a very active thread; lots of troll education seems to be being done.
If anyone else made this point, I missed it:
Bill Cosby = Funny
Bob Newhart = Funny
Bill Engvall = Funny
Jeff Foxworthy = Funny
This list could go on, and spans generations of comics who didn’t “go over the line.”
Plus, this isn’t really about trying to be edgy, or hip; it’s a mean spirited defamation.
No one deserves to have this kind of comments made about them.
No one in the Palin family “asked for it.”

LOL…the newbie card. I imagine I have been a member for a lot longer than you. I predate Ed by a long while. That said, I was mistaken and mixed you and Lizza up. My apologies, but surely understandable.

Palin is effective.
She must be destroyed!
The Letterman bile is simply the same slime that circulates cheerfully among the the leftoids …because they have no morality except gaining power by any means.
Obama is the uber-pointman for their special olympics venality.
Letterman is only an angry anklebiter.
profitsbeard on June 11, 2009 at 7:53 PM
Exactly. Well stated.

Here is an eye opener for you, ignoramous. Election day was painful for anyone that works in the private sector.
daesleeper on June 11, 2009 at 8:30 PM
It’s been said 97 gazillion times already on this site and others, but let’s say it again: If Letterman had made ANY joke with even a HINT of sexual innuendo about Obama’s daughters–or Michelle Obama herself–he’d be off the air right now and his career would be over. But if the subject is Palin and her family, why, that’s just “over the top,” isn’t it?
Owen Glendower on June 11, 2009 at 8:48 PM
That’s why we love Michelle Malkin!
Letterman stepped DEEP into it this time! He is used to bullying people just to get them on his show. Like he did to John McCain and Bill O’Reilly.
When you’ve got Michelle M. & Senator Claire McCaskill uniting against you…all I can say is “OUCH!!!”
sarahpalinfan99 on June 11, 2009 at 8:54 PM
Go Michelle. “Liberal sexism”…what an apt term. Your sharp critique hit’s a bulls eye.

You know, I’m thinking that between Dan Rather and Dave Letterman, it’s looking like CBS might not be one of those – what do you call them… “Learning Organizations“?
Just a thought.

Michelle amd Sarah – tough as freakin’ nails and that makes me love ‘em all the more.

Go Michelle.

Since so many on the left aren’t able to civally debate issues, they don’t “reason”,….. they can only “emote”, and their last resort is to RIDICULE anyone who disagrees with them. It was truly disheartening to hear so many gullible chumps and stooges in letterman’s studio audience continue to guffaw and laugh at his pathetic excuse of an “apology” during his June 10 show. Please don’t let our brave service men and women who are fighting for our country’s freedoms ever know that they’re service is being wasted on such a bunch of lunatics and losers.

Andrew Dice Clay’s career says hello.
h0mi on June 12, 2009 at 12:23 AM
Right, so I guess most American voters in 2008 were either unemployed or they worked for the governmetn? Nice logic, chump. Get over it. You lost and this is exactly why. Denial, when confronted with the fact that you don’t represent people you claim to represent.
Lizza on June 12, 2009 at 12:41 AM
The fact that it isn’t for you exposes you as another psychotically deranged liberal that is only happy when reality is chaotic, confused, and harbingers of destruction are in power.
csdeven on June 12, 2009 at 12:50 AM
There is simply nothing funny about calling someone slutty.
End of story. And women who rationalize this?
Sicken me.
AnninCA on June 12, 2009 at 12:53 AM
I’m sorry, it was way over the line when Letterman criticized Palin’s “slutty appearance”. It was stratospherically over the line when he went after Willow and Bristol. It was dumbs**t when he got the girls’ names mixed up.
It was also way as hell over the line when Rush Limbaugh went after Chelsea Clinton.
The endless jokes about Hillary’s appearance were over the line, as well. The package is not the contents in any case, even that of Palin and Clinton.
This is one of the reasons I tend not to listen to Limbaugh AND Letterman. Neither has class when they go after children. Neither is demonstrating class when they go after women for their appearance.
Maybe somebody needs to dish on the appearance of both of these overinflated bags of ego, especially the superannuated Letterman.

Enjoyed the shout-out to hotair right at the end of the clip…
Does anyone expect anything different from liberals?
ConservadorRebelde on June 12, 2009 at 1:47 AM
Yes, I really did. I’ve been mourning the end of liberal thinking for 2 years.
It honestly upset me.
This is not an issue that I’ll resolve anytime soon. I can tell. It’s one of the “decade” issues.

Serial Obama Haters. Face it – he won. The muslim-origin African American is your president, whether or not you accept this unforgettable fact for the next 4 years.
And the private sector LOVES President Obama – TARP bailout mean anything to you?
$700m in stimulus funds mean anything to the economy?
kokobin on June 12, 2009 at 6:38 AM
Bristol mother-of-illegitimate Palin is not unfair game, but a brazen, hypocritical, political operative who is being paid money by shameless hypocritical Repugs to go on speaking tours championing the impossible – Imaginary Safe Sex – a subject she knows very well with a baked Alaska to breastfeed.
You guys are funny. Years of going after Hil Clinton and latterly your new FLOTUS in all manner of racist and incendiary ways seems to have blunted your sense of humour perspective.
Get a life. Or kill one from a helicopter gunship.
kokobin on June 12, 2009 at 6:54 AM
Without a doubt you are funny.
Funnier than Fatburgh.
I know how painful it must be for you all that an African American is now in charge without the SCOTUS vote decider or ballot-fixing of the Shrub. 4 years of finger biting awaits.
kokobin on June 12, 2009 at 7:00 AM
I understand the kooks love affair with Barry. He is clean and articulate and a polished liar. But personally I am sick of them holding Michelle up as some sort of supermodel. Now the bomb throwing…I hear Michelle bought herself some new makeup in Paris to update her uppity look.

Kathleen Who?
Sporty1946 on June 12, 2009 at 7:52 AM
Is Barry African American Kokobin? A black president? Really? So the black president supports letting babies that survived abortions be thrown out with the trash just like the slave traders use to throw sick slaves overboard with the trash on a slave ship. Hmmm. The irony of it all. Barry is black? I had no idea. Are you sure? He did go to a black church with an anti semetic pastor for 20 years. But is he black? He does denounce the United States every chance he gets. Is he black? He believes that the constitution offers too much protection to the citizens of the United States, he calls them negative rights. But is he black? Hey, don’t be so hard on the guy….
bigtexmex on June 12, 2009 at 8:37 AM
Another funny one.
POTUS 44 is a reality. 4 years of deep breathing this fact would be beneficial to your eyesight and well being.

Those happy 8 years of the Shrub in Chief and Imaginary Weapons of Mass Destruction he found under his desk.
Happy Days indeed! W Bush – Killer of Muslims.
kokobin on June 12, 2009 at 9:08 AM
Kokobin- if Bush was black you would have loved him. Admit it. I am very content here in TEXAS watching all of you deniers bend over for your god. Muslims, killers of Americans and everyone else.

It was asked by the whether Letterman has ever been in an airplane. After his innuendo he’ll not enjoy and future flights in commercial aircraft.
I’m surprised he has not been charged with interfering with a flight crew because of his stupid remarks.
MSGTAS on June 12, 2009 at 10:11 AM
Thanks MM. Just listening to a repeat of the Letterman ludicrous lapdog lament. Even in his apology he takes shots via the pregnant pause at Gov. Palin, and snide remark about not condoning such acts on 14 year old, but leaving it as OK for 15 and above.
Letterman, seems to out of touch with reality since his stalker has been arrested. Maybe he needs someone monitoring his actions daily to keep him in line.
MSGTAS on June 12, 2009 at 10:21 AM
Michelle kicked ass. “Liberal sexism” – about time for someone to write a book…?
bigjack on June 12, 2009 at 10:23 AM
I don’t claim to represent anyone ignoramous. You are the one in denial unless you are an avowed post-national socialist, then it is may day every day for your red a$$.
Individual liberty shrinks and you are busy condemning those who defend it. FU

David Letterman: “…I would never never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14 year old girl…”
Double negative says he WOULD.
BlancheBourgeois on June 12, 2009 at 11:40 AM
Chances are more likely Father Todd would have his way with her as these northern Hillbillies are prone to do.
Then wait 10 years and write a book about being abused.
