You’re fired: Trump cans Miss California; Update: They wanted me to do Playboy, says Prejean
posted at 5:45 pm on June 10, 2009 by Allahpundit
Turns out the beauty queen’s a prima donna. Who knew?
Sigh. I wanted this one to be different.
But it was Trump who gave the final OK to fire her, FOXNews.com has learned.
“I told Carrie she needed to get back to work and honor her contract with the Miss California Organization and I gave her the opportunity to do so,” Trump said in the same documents. “Unfortunately it just doesn’t look like it is going to happen and I offered Keith my full support in making this decision.”…
According to a source, Prejean has aspirations to write a book and pursue other opportunities, which she will be able to do now that she has been released from her duties as Miss California.
I’m tempted to say we got suckered here, but if she was trying to get fired all along, the time to do it would have been last month when she could still claim political martyrdom. Instead she got bagged for insubordination. An e-mail from Prejean to the state pageant director, also via Fox News:
When asked to go through the proper proctol and provide details so events could be set in a master calendar, Prejean responded: “You do not cooperate with me, and you pick and chose the things YOU want me to do. That is not happening anymore. Stop speaking for me. I have MY own voice. What are u gonna do fire me for volunteering for the special olympics hahaha ur crazy No I am doing this appearance. You do not need details. Its for the SPECIAL OLYMPICS!!! You just need to know I will be doing it alright,” before insisting that Miss California officials provide “full security as per her request.”
Said Trump to TMZ, “To me she was the sweetest thing. Everyone else — she treated like s**t.” Exit question one: Is the bloom off the rose? Doesn’t mean she can’t or won’t have her right to dissent on gay marriage defended, but the image of sweet, unassuming Carrie is, I dare say, shattered. Exit question two: Interesting how it was Fox News that dished the dirt on this when it was the Foxies who chased her down for guest-hosting duties. Was the info selectively leaked to FNC to enhance the embarrassment for her? Or did she alienate people there too and this is a measure of revenge?
Update: Carrie fires back. Let the clusterfark continue!
Prejean claims pageant honcho Keith Lewis actually asked her last month if she would take two gigs — appearing on “I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!” and Playboy. Prejean says Lewis told her Playboy offered $140,000 for her to pose semi-nude. She rejected both offers.
A few minutes ago we talked to Lewis who said he was not pushing her to take either gig — but merely passing the offers along. Lewis said Prejean had insisted they not turn anything down without running it by her…
Prejean says, “What’s behind this I think is a political debate. They don’t agree with the stance that I took [on Prop 8]. Shana [Moakler] is trying to bash me. They don’t like me. From day one they wanted me out and they got what they wanted.”
Prejean also told us she couldn’t believe Donald Trump would say she treated people in the pageant “like s**t.” For the record, Trump did tell Harvey Levin that on the phone earlier today. Prejean said if Trump really feels that way she’s sorry, adding: “I’ve shown respect for every party involved, even when they haven’t shown it back.”
Er, wasn’t the original pretext for firing her that she posed “semi-nude”? And now, according to her, the pageant itself wanted her to do a semi-nude shoot in Playboy? I’m skeptical.

I don’t get it. Where’s the heartache?
Oh yeah, and where are the emails that were sent to her?

No, the most shocking things is you mouth all the leftist talking points drivel and you still can’t get a position in the Obama administartion, nor even a blogger position at Huff-N-Puff or even Daily-Koskos-for-Koskos-puffs.
MB4 on June 10, 2009 at 6:23 PM
Agreed, 24-hour rule, folks.
What were those events the pageant people wanted her to do and she didn’t?
How much advanced warning did she get about those events? In other words, did someone wait for all the flyers to be printed, etc for one appearance then tell her she had to be somewhere else?
How frequent were the events she was supposed to appear at? Were they deliberately putting her on a tighter or looser schedule than past pageant winners?

Don’t forget that the CA pageant director was a Playboy centerfold – yes, the one who was acting as if Prejean’s pictures were so awful.

That wasn’t the point. The desire to destroy her wasn’t because she may or may not be an unpleasant person. It was because she didn’t give an orthodox political opinion. That hasn’t changed.

What reason would Trump have to lie about Prejean? Obviously Trump gave her chance when everyone was attacking her. He didn’t have anything to gain by giving her a chance first time around.
Christina_M on June 10, 2009 at 6:32 PM
They’ve been gunning for her since she upset the very homely, obnoxious and foul anti-Christians Perez Hilton and Michael Musto. Perez Hilton should have been fired on the spot. Shame on Donald Trump.

“No no… see I played entirely by the rules and just passed on offers that were made to her because she insisted everything go through her.”
Yeah this just confirms my suspicions that they waited for anything to fire her on and Trump happily trashed her in the press to distance his organization from her.
C’mon, which better promotes the stated values of the Miss USA organization?
An appearance on “I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!”
Partial nude shot in Playboy

That
heit was invited back to do the pageant again next year turns my stomach.Ryan Gandy on June 10, 2009 at 6:34 PM
Let’s switch roles here between Carrie Prejean and Perez Hilton. Let us say that men had pageants. It is actually not that much of a stretch because men actually do have “pageants” – think body-building. Let us say that Perez Hilton was a contestant in one of these body-building “pageants”, an expanded one to include some of the addons that women’s pageants have, like where the contestants actually talk rather than just strut and pose. I know it’s a stretch but maybe Perez Hilton had been lifting weights 10 hours a day, 7 days a week for years. Let us say that Carrie Prejean was one of the judges. Why she would reasonably be selected as a judge, I don’t know, but it would be a lot less strange than a gay man being selected to be a judge at women’s pageant.
Now, let us say that judge Carrie Prejean goes off on her own personal agenda and asks Perez Hilton the politically charged question of what he thinks about gay marriage. Perez Hilton then gives a simple, honest answer in a way he hoped would not offend anyone. He probably has at least some idea that it is not the answer that Judge Prejean, with her agenda, wants to hear, but he wants to be honest and not lie to/schmooze the judge/judges. He basically says that he favors it but does not at all criticize those who are against it.
Then Carrie Prejean throws a hizzy fit and marks Perez Hilton with a big F for the whole pageant and proceeds, along with her followers, after the pageant is over, to viciously slur Perez Hilton for it. In response to her slurs, the invasions of his and his family’s privacy, and other ongoing attacks, Perez Hilton does not responded with a single slur against straights, nor does he attack anyone. Instead, he responds graciously and with forgiveness.
For just a couple of so many examples, would David Axelrod have piled on and talked about naming the White House dog Perez with big laughs from the press or would Bill Maher have piled on and gone on the attack against Perez Hilton? What would people have thought if they did?
Anyone [that means you, Jetboy, not TTheoLogan) who does not get the moral of this “story”, I can’t help you, I don’t think anyone can.
MB4 on June 10, 2009 at 6:35 PM
You can bet if she was a Leftists she’d be getting the benefit of the doubt. There’d be all kinds of theories about how they set her up to take her out. But, she’s on the Right to some degree so the bloom is off the rose. That’s just how it goes here.
TheBigOldDog on June 10, 2009 at 6:35 PM
If he fired her for giving an honest answer to a question he called into question the entire point of the pageant (that it’s not a sex object thing, it’s about honor, integrity, yadda yadda). He’s also alienate a good chunk of his base.
Now, he placates the homosexual lobby (ooh, she’s bad) while still maintaining the organizations’ integrity.
Win – Win for him.
Skywise on June 10, 2009 at 6:36 PM
Why is Allah jumping to conclusions that she’s a prima donna?
Who released the emails? The pageant people? Hmmm … well I guess she’s a bitch then like they say – certainly they have no reason to hold back any information that might shine a positive light on her. I’m sure if it were their fault – they’d pipe right up about it.
Why were they giving her crap for working with Special Olympics? Yeah – her words are harsh – but … it’s not like she was demanding to appear at Rev. Wright’s church.
Oh wait – that would have been blessed!

This was a setup. They wanted her out, so they offered her a job they knew she would turn down and then fired her for not honoring her contract.
Cockroaches.
Trump had this planned all along. He’s smart enough to know that if he had fired her weeks ago when this all broke out, that he was open for a lawsuit, so he made it look like he supported her and then set her up at a later date.
It’s really not that hard to figure out.

Buy Danish on June 10, 2009 at 6:42 PM
Practically from the moment that Carrie Prejean answered that question about gay Marriage, she was verbally assaulted, had her privacy invaded, was trashed in the MSM, and treated to the same misogynistic slurs and fantasies that we’ve seen done by Playboy and David Letterman against conservative women.
But now that she’s been fired by the organization that set her up and failed to back her up, we’re to believe them and not her? We’re to believe this isn’t a part of the same campaign against her?
Why should anyone believe people who trashed this woman, or excused her trashing, or simply stood by silently while it was done? The doubts and gloating being expressed seem to fit into the same pattern of abuse and innuendo.

Where did this come from.
Now she has shattered some persona that someone else labeled her.
I saw her as a strong,independent,sharp,opinionated,gorgeous woman.
Everything liberal women are not.
It is not hard to fire somebody if you really want them gone.
Anybody in management knows that you can set standards and impose policies that will make it impossible for somebody to stay employed.
“your 5 minutes late.
That’s your third time.
Your outta here.”
She is probably glad to be gone and does have many opportunities awaiting her.
If she comes off bitter or defensive in her E-mails,it probably has a lot to do with dealing with people who have done nothing but undermine her combined with the hatred and bigotry she has experienced from the media and other outlets.
My hope is that she comes out a winner and on top after all of this for her sake, and for the point of not allowing hateful bigots that make up the liberal groups in this country to get any satisfaction from their smear campaign.

You’re kidding right? The Donald…controversy…unending publicity…
And he didn’t even have to lie. The whole thing could have been contrived by the Miss California organization. Lots of assignments they knew she would reject, remarks that could be misconstrued (or outright taken out of context) other things not quite as salacious by themselves, but when put together…or it could all be her doing. Regardless, Trump gets the publicity.
Yeah, this could turn out to be really fun. All sides will have a story and their allies to keep this going. Just so long as there is paper to go with it.
If it looks like Prejean is right, Trump could come back are fire the Miss California pageant board. And get more publicity.

I’m sure she’s great and all, and the whole Christian/anti-gay marriage attacks were ridiculous, but does anyone really want to go out of their way to back this sort of girl? I’m sure we could find literally millions of people who would be better spokespersons for the cause.
Did ANYONE on the entire planet ever even care what her opinion was on gay marriage? Sorry, but after a woman with breast implants popping out of a tiny bikini struts around in a “who’s the prettiest contest,” I sorta don’t give a crap what she thinks on any important matter.

True_King on June 10, 2009 at 7:04 PM
Probably what it comes down to. The job of being Miss California probably entails micromanagement from the organization while appearing at a lot of non-glamorous events. For most Miss Cali’s that is the only exposure they have available. Carrie could book her own gigs and negotiate her own compensation and accomodations. There is a lot of room for conflict between her and an organization that is used to having a monopoly on the pageant winner.

I am with Gregor in thinking Trump could not fire her when this was all over the media or he would have looked really bad.
This happens after the Guy Cimbalo mess last week, and David Letterman’s assault on the Palin family. One would think the Left has gone certifiably mad when it comes to Conservative women. I think they fear us more than you white males! It also appears that if you are a Conservative female, you should feel a chilling impact on your rights to free speech.

I’ve read your comments on other post here @ HA. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. My opinion of you is that you are not right in the head. Your concept of what Free market is not in alignment with Milton Freidman? Your brain is far left and any statement from you should be taken after you’ve been given truth serum. Judgement indeed. Do you also follow Maureen Dowd and her views?

Okay, here’s some dedguy wisdom for you:
The word “naked” comes from the Greek gumnos, which was used by the Greeks to describe various states of undress, Peter here being clad only in undergarments (lacking his “coat”) while working in the water with other doods. It is equivalent to the Hebrew word `eryah for nakedness, literally meaning shame or poverty.
By wearing only a bikini, essentially the same as Peter’s undergarments, this girl has “exposed her breasts and thighs,” which is shameful (Exodus 20:26; 28:42; Isaiah 47:3) and she is therefore naked by God’s standards.
