Video: Ziegler gets his mike cut off by MS-NBC

posted at 1:15 pm on June 10, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

If you want to see irony in action, watch as the “tingle up the leg” and the “Obama is sort of like God” network challenge John Ziegler on his credibility. Contessa Brewer doesn’t want to actually talk about the subject – David Letterman’s two attacks on Palin’s 14-year-old daughter – but wants to make the interview about Ziegler instead. John has his own idea about what he wants to say, which is when Brewer demands that his mike get silenced:

RealClearPolitics reports (from John) that MS-NBC pulled a bait-and-switch on him. Norah O’Donnell was supposed to be his interviewer, who has interviewed John in the past. For some reason, they threw Brewer at him, who clearly wanted to keep John on a tight leash.  Brewer had no interest in talking about the topic at hand (Letterman), but in trying to zing Palin and John’s interview of her.

I’d call this red meat for everyone. The Left can cheer Brewer for her manhandling of Ziegler, while the rest of us can point out that (a) everyone at MS-NBC knows that Ziegler criticizes their coverage every chance he gets, and (b) they invited him, and not the other way around.

Besides, MS-NBC is the absolutely last media organization that can level charges of “cheerleading” at anyone else in the industry.  Have they canned Evan Thomas for calling Obama “sort of God” or Chris Matthews for his “tingle up my leg”?  When they do that, then Contessa Brewer can sniff at John Ziegler for a lack of journalistic objectivity.

Update: On a related note, Tommy Christopher rips David Letterman:

There’s a whole lot of justified outrage going on about David Letterman’s recent attacks on Sarah Palin and her 14 year-old daughter.  There really is no denunciation strong enough for these attacks, which are in many ways more egregious than the Guy Cimbalo “Hate F*** List” that Playboy and Politico took down.

Letterman’s attacks were made in an exponentially larger, broader forum, and included the statutory rape of a minor child.  They cannot be taken down or redacted.

But he also makes a good point here:

There are some who would try to hang Letterman’s attack on “the Left.” I’ll get to “the Left” in a minute, but Letterman is no more a liberal, in the political “team sports” sense of the word, than Guy Cimbalo is.  They are not conservatives, but they are also basically apolitical.  Their words are owned by a popular culture that is hostile to conservatism, but also to liberal ideals (of feminism as well as others).  They are a third column.

The attacks aren’t coming from “the Left”, but the silence certainly is.  Read all of Tommy’s post.

Update: Like some commenters, I’m particularly amused at Brewer’s offense at Ziegler’s claims of bias, but her lack of outrage over the personal attacks on a 14-year-old girl.  Stay classy, Contessa!

The Left can cheer Brewer for her manhandling of Ziegler

Uh AP, were you watching the same interview I was? Ziegler manhandled her, that’s why she cut his mic.

victor82 on June 10, 2009 at 2:49 PM

And this is the basis of your cognitive disconnect. You play into their game of group identity, and blaming a group for the actions of an individual.

We do not even pretend to speak for the Republican Party… so why should the Repubs be held accountable for what we say here? And why should we “edit” what we say, because some Libtard will be offended by us doing the same thing THEY do? (and somehow, they manage to not tar themselves with the group identity brush, when one of theirs says somthing objectionalbe).

Heck, I’m not even a Republican. Why would what I say put them in a bad light?

The liberal media has made Sarah Palin a target. There also is a hatred for her from the Gay community. I got into a long discussion with someone that I admire who is Gay, and he and his friends went off his lid about Sarah Palin. None of his rant was justified or even capable of a reference. He was simply joining into to the fad of trashing this woman.

The ultimate hypocrisy is when MSNBC does a story about the derogatory comments left on this board.

Come to think of it-

I feel MS-NBC has been trying to pick this fight w/ Palin all day long. The lead in to Scarbourgh’s show this morning was along the likes of -
Sarah Palin can’t take a joke, and must think she is above the late night ribbing to which others (except Obama) are subjected. Letterman made her the subject of his top 10 list, and she called him “pathetic”.
Then Condessa tries to match wits with Zeiglar. John really roasted her.

gonnjos on June 10, 2009 at 3:11 PM

He was not taking her seriously… and who would…but that hurt her widdle feelings real real bad… so she took her ball and went home.

The double standard is sickening.

SELECTIVE LIBERAL OUTRAGE:

We have had Gov. Palin subjected to shouts of gang rape from
liberal comedians.
Shirts saying she should have been aborted.
Shirts showing her being punched out.
You-tube video of her being beaten down by a man.
Comments from political pundits,politicians,and entertainers
that were sexist, bigoted, and bordered on the psychotic.

Miss California,Mrs. Bush, and many other women subjected to the hatred and bigotry of liberals simply because they have different political views.

Nothing from the feminist.
Not hardly a word.

But now we have the feminist speaking up.
Now they have found something to be upset about:

Feminist law Professors blog

All Latinas are not Mexican

A cartoonist at the Oklahoma City newspaper The Oklahoman responds to criticism of his drawing of Judge Sotomayor as a piñata to be struck by waiting GOP elephants.

http://feministlawprofessors.com/?p=11191

Jean Warner, chair of the Oklahoma Women’s Coalition, said there was nothing funny about the image.

“Here’s a woman wearing a judge’s robes and she’s about to get the crap beaten out of her because she has the audacity to think she can sit on the Supreme Court,” Warner said. “But most young girls who look at the cartoon, don’t even understand that. They just see guys with sticks about to hit a woman.

Rossana Rosado, publisher and chief executive officer of El Diario La Prensa in New York, also said the cartoon was offensive.

“On first view you just see her hanging by a rope and that’s a very disturbing image,” she said. “It’s offensive mostly because it’s not funny. It’s supposed to be satirical and humorous and it simply isn’t funny.”

So that’s what it takes to be offensive.
A pinata cartoon.

I thought cartoons were considered comedy.
Lighten up feminist,it’s only words.
what’s the harm right.
I mean wouldn’t it have been funnier if all those “guys” surrounding her were yelling about “hate F******” her instead.

Where was all of this outrage during these acts of liberal tolerance and intelligence:

The tolerance of the Left

A mannequin hanging from a home in West Hollywood has been outfitted to look like Governor Sarah Palin.

And of course you have the moralization of this hateful action by the “smart ones”.

[Chad] Morrisette said his display might be unacceptable any other month, but his subjects are fair game during the Halloween season. “It should be seen as art and it should be seen within the month of October. It is Halloween. It’s time to be scary. It’s time to be spooky,” Morrisette said.

Here’s more hate and bigotry from the left that the feminist don’t have a problem with:

Crush the Obamedia narrative: Look who’s “gripped by insane rage”

Let’s talk about “insane rage” and “violent escalation.”

This is insane rage — Sandra Bernhard bashing Sarah Palin and cursing her head off with hate warping her crazed face:

This is violent escalation — Palin-hating artwork designating her an “M.I.L.P.” (Mother I’d Like to Punch).

This is insane rage and violent escalation — pointing a fake gun at the head of a Sarah Palin likeness sitting next to a cardboard cutout of her daughter in a museum display:

and much, much more super intelligent actions from the “smart ones”.

Feminism is an absolute joke.It should be called “liberalism” because there ideology is all they care about, not women and their rights.

1. Did anyone notice Brewer indicate that she has been called a slut in public and it was okay with her? She didn’t mind. “I’m still here.” As if still being here is criteria enough to allow such personal insults. Brewer has just become the poster-girl for the de-evolution of the women’s movement and for the respect of professional women.

Talk about anti-feminism, Letterman was a complete ass. The very idea that a grown man could joke about women and young girls in that vein makes him a pompous ass. There was nothing funny about his attempt at gutter humor. Feminists should be railing against this kind of garbage.

elclynn on June 10, 2009 at 3:22 PM

We need to keep away from the nasty personal attacks and the venom and stick to constantly barraging them with substantive criticism.

Outlander on June 10, 2009 at 2:55 PM

I pretty much agree that you win voters with substance not slime. Liz Cheney has been doing a great job of that lately, and I wish we had more of that. In fact, last week I was arguing that we should all try to do a little less ad hominem name-calling.

But I think the ANSWER to ad-hominem name calling should include a pretty healthy dose of flaming in response. Only when liberals are nervous about the repercussions will they cease in their attacks. Let them find some other mewling victim to pick on.

What I’d really love to see is Conan O’Brien put “Contessa” and “slutty” together in a joke tonight. I want to see a “slutty contessa” web site with daily updates. Maybe a list of all her past romantic relationships, plus a few imaginary ones just to spice things up. Top it off with some leaked rumors about her escapades to the tabloids. But until Breitbart makes more progress, I’ll have to be satisfied that Brewer might read these comments and cry, alone and angry, in her car.

I stopped watching Letterman and Maher completely because their hate for women is so painfully intense it hurts to see it in action. Thank god most men are not like that, but the men who are – whether they use words or fists – need to be nailed up to a pillory and subjected to public censure.
.
Women like Brewer who condone it are worse than the abusers.

( sigh ) You People are amazing……

having sex with a 14-year-old is statutory rape

a 3–something man having sex with a 14-year-old girl he never met is almost certainly forced, and thus rape

you claim to know what Dave was actually thinking? You’re “pretty sure”, huh? Well, I’m pretty sure what you are

Janos Hunyadi on June 10, 2009 at 3:43 PM

So, liberal comedians, and I use that term loosely, are getting liberal translators now too?
Doesn’t matter, it is still out of bounds.

No, not reading minds, just making an educated guess. But since Palin has one well-known daughter who was pregnant, and A-Rod is a horn dog, I think the joke referred to Bristol, not Willow.

YYZ on June 10, 2009 at 3:43 PM

Maybe MSNBC would have a different take if the Palin daughter played basketball for Rutgers…

mjbrooks3 on June 10, 2009 at 3:45 PM

Also, it may be no less offensive, but I’m pretty sure Letterman thought he was referring to Bristol Palin, not her 14-year-old sister.

YYZ on June 10, 2009 at 3:35 PM

so that just means he’s as clueless as he is classless.

But, since it is a conservative’s child, no matter the age, and namely, Sarah Palin’s daughter, well, it’s not big deal.

HornetSting on June 10, 2009 at 3:47 PM

That’s because everyone with any sense (which is not the same as all voters) knows Obama is lying about his position on gay marriage.

hawksruleva on June 10, 2009 at 3:31 PM

Knowing that someone is lying for their political benefit is corrupt and certainly does not get liberals off the hook in their selective outrage concerning gay marriage.

As popular as Obama is,the gay marriage movement could definitely use an endorsement from Hillary,Kerry, and Biden also.

There pass on Obama and friends is because they will not expose or threaten anybody that shares their political goals,no matter how ignorant and bigoted they are.

No different than liberals having no problem with Obama using all the policies of the Bush administration that they wanted him tried for war crimes on but under Obama, are considered “smart power”.

Liberals show time and again that everything is about their ideology, politics and they will use everything they can to gain political power.

This includes their faux outrage and selective moralism of comments and events that are only offensive if it is perpetrated by Republicans or Christians.

Lying or not,it is full of sh!t and they should be slammed to the ground with it.

I’m not looking for flowery love on HA’s blog. I’ve been here long enough not to expect that. I just think it ridiculous that people complain about something Letterman does and then do the same.
No, I’m not trying to be O’Reilly and you don’t need the left leaning state on your side for a boycott, the dollar still has some clout.
And If I’m the bottom of the barrel it would be the barrel from a registration or two ago. I come often and comment rarely. Wonder why?? I think Ed, Allah, and Michelle would agree that using HA’s blog to spew hate speech onto Obama’s children is the bottom of the barrel.
And why is it that everyone who disagrees and might even have some common sense is a troll? A few people say its not a good idea to use this incident to call Contessa four letter words that denigrate women or talk like that about Obama’s kids and they’re “trolls”.

So, we’re going to speak to everyone in “Letterman language”? Yeah, that makes sense.

Don Imus called out Contessa Brewer some years ago on his televised radio program, recognizing her as the humorless empty skirt she actually is. He did it on the air when he was on MNSBC, and she left in a huff and never came back. No loss, as far as he was concerned, or anyone else. Nice that she’s buried on the least-watched cable network in television, which is the perfect place for idiocy.

Sarah Palin doesn’t need anyone to stand up to these people for her. The GOP should, but she doesn’t need them too. She has more courage in her little toe then any male politician in Washington DC has in their whole body.
