Video: Letterman doubles down, makes prostitute joke about Palin’s daughter; Update: Both Palins rip Letterman

posted at 12:10 pm on June 10, 2009 by Allahpundit

Via Conservatives 4 Palin. The punchline’s as stale as year-old bread, naturally, which makes this daisy-fresh by Dave’s usual standards. Here’s Lileks on yesterday’s “comedy”:

Really, it’s just a rote slam: If your mother is a loathed politician, and your older sister gets pregnant, famous old men can make jokes about you being knocked up by rich baseball players, and there’s nothing you can do. That’s the culture: a flat, dead-eyed, square-headed old man who’ll go back to the writers and ask for more Palin-daughter knocked-up jokes, because that one went over well. Other children he won’t touch, but not because he’s decent. It’s because he’s a coward…

Well, one more thing. Some say Dave – I’m sorry, the staff members who wrote the joke and had it printed on cards for him to read – thought the daughter in attendance was the older one who had the pregnancy controversy last year. This is possible; it also means that we accept as an excuse the fact that the writers confused the daughters they wished to humiliate…

One more thing: the monologue contained an Angela Lansbury joke. Dude is OUT THERE.

Here’s what the crack “Late Show” writing staff came up with when, as predicted, he went back and demanded more “sex with Palin’s daughters” jokes. Oh, almost forgot: CBS just signed him to a new deal through 2012. Presumably he’ll have worked his way up to gags about Piper Palin turning tricks by then.

Update: C4P has angry statements from both Todd and Sarah laying into Letterman’s “sexually perverted comments.” Will Dave triple down tonight?

You want to know what you are, David Letterman? Huh? Huh? You don’t, I do, everybody does … … you’re the son of a thousand fathers, all cowardly little bastards like you.

Once again, today’s “feminists” are giving this a pass. There are articles galore on Palin’s toenail polish, her mini-skirt she wore recently, her speeches being plagarism, her daring to scoot out when the GOP embarassed her by removing her from the speaking agenda….you name it.

It’s open season on this woman.

And there are two people in the entire darn country speaking out……her husband and Ziegler.

Pathetic.

By the way, where are our stalwarts from the Beltway G.O.P. that are so “tired” of

Firefly56 on June 10, 2009 at 1:17 PM

I wonder if the second joke had something to do with Sarah revealing to John Ziegler in the interview that she occasionally second-guesses herself whether she should stay in public life due to the ridicule against her and the cheap shots against her family.

Perhaps the Obama war room interpreted her comment that its 24/7/365 relentless pursuit to destroy her was working and ordered Letterman to pour on the pressure to push Sarah Palin over the edge.

technopeasant on June 10, 2009 at 1:19 PM

Maybe we can set one up for Dave- Drudge has a headline up of Michelle Obama’s outfit, referring to an “orange snake.”

But if her family says, “Go for it Mom. We can take it,” the media will play her as a bad mom for knowing what kind of abuse was in store for her moppets and doing it anyway.

That’s sure what my kids would do…they can give as good as they get, and would get more satisfaction from doing it than I would.

Jdripper on June 10, 2009 at 1:29 PM

This is what I can’t understand.

Privately, the people at NBC Universal are disappointed in Conan’s rollout. Dave has a golden opportunity here to expand market share at Conan’s expense, precisely because he’s new and bleeding some audience. Instead, Dave does Olbermann and blows off half of his potential audience.

If the people at NBC Universal are smart, they’ll tell the a$$clowns at MSNBC to start piling on Dave. This would be a chance to disrupt Dave’s show and CBS’ entire evening lineup.

There’s no honor among thieves. Don’t expect MSNBC’s defense of Dave to last.

victor82 on June 10, 2009 at 1:29 PM

I suppose loads of negative email and boycotts of sponsors are in order, but wouldn’t it just be much simpler, quicker and more effective if someone took one for the team and busted “Dave’s” nose?

…ol’ Dave hasn’t been relevant, and certainly not funny, since the first Bush Administration…the latest hitting below the belt a’ la Bill Maher (who hits one below the belt with his lips, generally) is to me a sign that he never was that funny in the first place….

…the man’s the Chevy Chase of late-night TV…he’s widely regarded as funny without having to break a sweat and actually be funny….

…even in the Mafia, families are off-limits…they may put your head in a vice and twist ’til your eyes pop their sockets, but they leave your kids alone…that’s class of a sort…a sort that Mr. Letterman and his staff of giggle-challenged scribblers apparently don’t have….

People who object to this are applying out-dated standards.

President Obama referred to the Muslim bible as The Holy Koran. Muhammed, the founder of Islam, took Aisha as his wife when she was 6, though he did not consummate the marriage until she was 9.

This 7th century standard, has now been upheld as holy. The cut off age is now 9. There are many examples in Muslim countries of young girls being married off to older men. If there was anything inappropriate about this practice Obama would have spoken out against it.

Anyone who says anything different is insulting Islam and in danger of censure from The President.

iceman1960 on June 10, 2009 at 1:42 PM

How sad. To me its almost a personal tragedy.

I once had real affection for Dave. A long time ago – 1993? – I deployed to Sigonella, Sicily, by way of Rota, Spain, to fly on P-3 recce crews over then war-torn Bosnia.

I was sent all alone. I was young, and lonely. And I can remember late at night – again, all alone – finding my way down to some TV lounge, and sitting there after midnight … watching good ol’ Dave, a million miles from home.

And he kept me company. Made me a little less homesick.

The first time I went to New York, priority one was heading down to the Hello Deli and meeting Rupert. Or whatever his name is. Nice guy, by the way.

And now … now Dave is gone. Worse than gone. Even the fond memories are tarnished.

Sad. Oh, well.

Professor Blather on June 10, 2009 at 1:44 PM

Yea, like someone said, he may have been relevant years and years ago but he’s not worth a flick of the remote anymore. He was only mildly amusing to begin with. Now he’s just pathetic. Here’s an address that Todd Palin might write down:

Broadcast Boxing Club
41 W 57th St
New York, NY 10019
(800) 343-4871

It’s within reasonable walking distance from Letterman’s theatre and use of a sanctioned, recognized facility with gloves, headgear and other protective devices (i.e., cup), would serve to save David Letterman’s life, while allowing Todd to pummel him senseless without being arrested.

I honestly don’t think a jury in the world, even in Manhattan, would ever convict him but why risk it.

WHO WILL STEP UP to sponsor this event, all proceeds to Safe Horizon or some other worthy advocacy group.

Vega on June 10, 2009 at 2:33 PM

I’m not sure I’ve ever complained to a television show in my life. But this … well, I sent the following to every address I could find.

A 14 year old girl. It really is unbelievable.

Look, I’ve been a Dave fan for 20+ years. I have fond memories of the guy keeping me company late at night when I was deployed overseas, I have fuzzy memories of nightly Dave sessions with friends in college. I’ve seen him live, I’ve got my Hello Deli t-shirt. I like Dave. For decades, I’ve preferred CBS late night to the Tonight Show … at least since Carson left.

And I understand – better than most – Letterman’s brand of humor. Irreverent, edgy … cool. Great. It’s unfortunate that he’s turned into something of a one-note one-sided political jokester lately, but that’s okay, too … it’s a small part of his shtick. Or used to be, anyway.

Hell, I’ll even forgive the joke calling Gov. Palin a slut. It’s hypocritical, of course, considering Dave’s politics. I guarantee it runs contrary to what his writers pretend to believe – namely, that women shouldn’t be subjected to gender-based, sexual attacks. It’s an offensive joke, to all women, to feminists, to liberals and conservatives alike, even to flight attendants. They, at least – especially in the shadow of the twin towers – deserve a lot better from Dave. But hey … it’s late night. I don’t expect couth and civility. Unfunny and crude and misogynistic isn’t exactly unusual in his time slot. Stupid, but you’re forgiven.

But lame SEXUAL comments about grown men RAPING and IMPREGNATING a FREAKING FOURTEEN YEAR OLD CHILD? Seriously? No … seriously? What’s next – “ni**er lynching” jokes about Clarence Thomas? Why not – he’s conservative! How about some baking-Jews-in-the-ovens jokes? (Just make sure you target a conservative Jew, or it won’t be quite so funny.)

C’mon, folks. I know politics is dirty. I know the far-left media can’t help but screech its bias. I don’t mind. And 8 years of attacks on the President’s and Vice-President’s children have shown us all that the age-old taboo against going after politician’s kids is no longer in effect. But, hey … atleast they were adults.

But a CHILD? A little girl? A 14 year old? Jokes told by a 60-year old man? About “knocking up” a little girl? And you think that’s funny? Just because Gov. Palin is a member of the “wrong” political party?

Newsflash, and its pretty simple: ask yourself if it would have been funny or acceptable about one of President Obama’s daughters. If your answer is no, than why is it acceptable here?

Pedophilia. Rape of a child. As humor. Because of politics.

I’m disturbed by Dave’s descent to this. Disgusted by your complicity. And personally saddened that I’ve lost one of my heroes.

No more Dave for me. I hope Conan is funny. I’ll miss him.

If you want me back, I need to hear an abject, unequivocal, non-qualified apology, on air. To Gov. Palin, to her husband, and most of all TO HER UNDERAGE DAUGHTER who deserves better from all of us.

I wonder how you’d react if it were your 14-year old child?

I’ll miss you, Dave. This was truly one stupid human trick.

Plus, he is having Nicole Wallace (the ditzy blonde who torpedoed Palin’s VP campaign) on regularly. When FNC has Wallace, Whore-aldo or Fred Barnes on, I switch channels.

They should switch Hannity’s time slot with Glenn Beck,

I forgot, is his first name David or Dick?

Mr. Grump on June 10, 2009 at 3:14 PM

What a bunch of thin-skinned “conservatives”.

simplesimon on June 10, 2009 at 12:23 PM

What a typical moronic liberal and what an appropriate screen name.

orlandocajun on June 10, 2009 at 3:24 PM

Saaaay. Doesn’t David Letterman have a little daughter ?

kurtzz3 on June 10, 2009 at 3:33 PM

It IS NOT and never will be humor to attack little girls in the fashion that Letterman has adopted. This is an old man who no longer seems to have the ability to be funny and has lost his grip(if he ever had it)on what is appropiate and what is not. He is a despicable man–if ‘man’ can be applied to such as he.

jeanie on June 10, 2009 at 3:34 PM

boycotts and complaints are the only way. Can lists and/or links be provided?

jeanie on June 10, 2009 at 3:36 PM

I pray none of the Palins go on Lettermans show. Don’t give him any ratings please. Maybe thats what that moron is up to.

johnnyU on June 10, 2009 at 3:40 PM

I’m already going down the list and sending boycott letters to the advertisers. I wil ensure my family does NOT do business with any of them!!

Justrand on June 10, 2009 at 3:40 PM

Hey Dave, if SaraCuda was shooting rats in NYC, how the he!! did she miss your mange ridden carcase? We know she’s a better shot than most city boys like you.

BillyGoatGruff on June 10, 2009 at 3:44 PM

let’s bring the creep down if we can and not becuase it’s Palin’s daughter but because he is patently and obviously a child abuser. Imagine what other kids are saying to that girl. Law suit time?

jeanie on June 10, 2009 at 3:46 PM

Best Western replied basically saying that they don’t have any control over when the commercials air, it’s just done through some media agency. I bet they would take more of an interest if they heard from enough people.

XWing5 on June 10, 2009 at 3:46 PM

With Michael Moore being so silent the loonies on the left need an idiot to look up to. A Muslim in the White House and idiots on CBS and MSNBC. Nothing new here.

bluegrass on June 10, 2009 at 3:53 PM

Yep, the Chelsea Clinton Rule apparently applied only to Chelsea. Maybe someone can take a shot at Sasha and Malia. You know, just to be fair.

Think about it, Republican daughters are fair game: Patti Davis, Barbara/Jenna Bush, Michelle Bachman’s kids, and now the Palin daughters.

I’m pretty sure this is tame compared to what we’ll be hearing over the next year or so. Palin and her daughters, including even Piper, are going to experience just much vitriol the Left, in their terror, can throw at them, all in the name of destroying Sarah Palin’s chances of election.

And feminists and women’s rights groups will be nowhere to be found.

Dave in San Diego on June 10, 2009 at 3:54 PM

I have complained to Best Western, but cannot find the list in the above posts that listed the other advertisers. Can anyone give me the time slot in which it was posted? I want to contact the others too. Thanks.

jeanie on June 10, 2009 at 3:57 PM

Never mind, I finally found it and will be spending the next hour e-mailing these. I find it hard to to imagine that any product would want to be associated with this child abuser.

jeanie on June 10, 2009 at 4:01 PM

Ummmm…..I think the list was posted somewhere on the front page, but it’s also here http://hillbuzz.org/ and here http://www.conservatives4palin.com/

Someone suggested that Governor or Todd Palin go on the Tonight Show to address this as a sort of double hammer to Letterman’s head.

Only one problem. There are no balls over there, either.

Won’t happen.

IndieDogg on June 10, 2009 at 4:10 PM

OT: Betsey, you went to BSU? I was born and raised in Muncie, went to Burris (K-12 school associated with Ball State, that school right next to Ball Memorial). Amanda Carpenter is an alum as well.

Geministorm on June 10, 2009 at 1:21 PM

Oh, my. Another Hoosier. How cool! I wasn’t born there, but my Mom was from Tipton. We moved to Muncie when I was in Jr. High and I was graduated from Muncie Central. Natural progression was on to BSU. Did my student teaching at Burris and Westview El.

Hey, have some fun, call CBS Television

Main Number:
(212) 975-4321

Ask them if they approve, and register your displeasure.

William Teach on June 10, 2009 at 4:22 PM

For anyone who is interested: You do not need an address to contact these companies. For most of them you can just google the name and add contact. Pretty much does it though you may have to be creative in which category you choose to air your complaint. Keep it short and polite but firm I suggest. Only takes a minute and it helps a 14 year old girl who, through no fault of her own, has now been made a laughing stock. Imagine this happening to your daughter or grandaughter on national TV.

jeanie on June 10, 2009 at 4:23 PM

He defines angry white male.

Somewhere along the line he made a play on a decent, real woman like Sarah and was rejected for being such a reject.

It’s patently obvious.
