Video: Letterman doubles down, makes prostitute joke about Palin’s daughter; Update: Both Palins rip Letterman

posted at 12:10 pm on June 10, 2009 by Allahpundit

Via Conservatives 4 Palin. The punchline’s as stale as year-old bread, naturally, which makes this daisy-fresh by Dave’s usual standards. Here’s Lileks on yesterday’s “comedy”:

Really, it’s just a rote slam: If your mother is a loathed politician, and your older sister gets pregnant, famous old men can make jokes about you being knocked up by rich baseball players, and there’s nothing you can do. That’s the culture: a flat, dead-eyed, square-headed old man who’ll go back to the writers and ask for more Palin-daughter knocked-up jokes, because that one went over well. Other children he won’t touch, but not because he’s decent. It’s because he’s a coward…

Well, one more thing. Some say Dave – I’m sorry, the staff members who wrote the joke and had it printed on cards for him to read – thought the daughter in attendance was the older one who had the pregnancy controversy last year. This is possible; it also means that we accept as an excuse the fact that the writers confused the daughters they wished to humiliate…

One more thing: the monologue contained an Angela Lansbury joke. Dude is OUT THERE.

Here’s what the crack “Late Show” writing staff came up with when, as predicted, he went back and demanded more “sex with Palin’s daughters” jokes. Oh, almost forgot: CBS just signed him to a new deal through 2012. Presumably he’ll have worked his way up to gags about Piper Palin turning tricks by then.

Update: C4P has angry statements from both Todd and Sarah laying into Letterman’s “sexually perverted comments.” Will Dave triple down tonight?

Who are you and what have you done with the real Allahpundit?

J/K. Kudos again for another great and fair thread on this subject AP.

Not watching. I can’t stand this guy even if he did graduate from my alma mater. Most of the people that went to that school were not slime balls.
Glad that Sarah is fighting back. Leave the kids out of this.
Yes, he will triple down. She is a huge threat to him and all the Liberals out there. We are choosing to not associate with Liberals anymore. Our social circle is much smaller, but it works for me. These Liberals are gut-wrenching.

BetseyRoss on June 10, 2009 at 12:21 PM

Betsey, we’ve done the same thing! I could no longer pretend to accept the liberal lack of values in the name of accepting others. Yes, smaller circle, but a much stronger circle.

zeebeach on June 10, 2009 at 12:38 PM

I’m not sure what’s worse: an dirty old man joking about the rape of 14 year old, or the audience laughing? What kind of people would find that funny?

theenforser on June 10, 2009 at 12:24 PM

The same people who would go to Will Farrell’s show on Broadway about George W. Bush. It ends with a giant picture, allegedly of presidential genitals. “Condi Rice” in the play is a lapdancing stripper.

Dave’ll be doing Depends commercials soon, so who cares?

They’re working on one for his incontinent mouth…

Maybe Trig will be hired out as a male prostitute by then as well. Or maybe Letterman can do some “retard” jokes.

What an a**hole.

BIll O’reilly didn’t have the testicular fortitude to call him a Pinhead last night. He told the audience to make up their minds. Well, I have. Bill, if you actually had the morals and ethics you claim to have, you would have been a man and called Letterman a Pinhead. You just want to curry favor and keep your mug on the network talk shows.

Great statement by the Governor in response to Letterman’s disgusting comments. As usual, Sarah Palin shows class-even when she’s bitch slapping a lefty pervert.

Redneck Woman on June 10, 2009 at 12:40 PM

If Letterman hadn’t goofed his way into a TV show, he’d be cursing Obama for wiping out his job as a auto showroom salesman. But he would be secretly glad that he would have more time to hang out near the playground to ogle the cute little kids.

Call some of the sponsors of the Letterman’s show too. If sponsors get squeamish, that will really get their attention.

not that that makes it any better…

homesickamerican on June 10, 2009 at 12:41 PM

Wasn’t his child threatened with/or actually kidnapped a few years ago? And he still thinks it’s ok to mess with someone’s children? I’d be ducking the karma about now if I were David.

zeebeach on June 10, 2009 at 12:41 PM

David Letterman’s show is a pathetic mix of stale, lame jokes and celebrity ass-kissing.
It’s all about the guests, thus the ratings.
The whole format of the “Late Nite Talk Show” is stale and crappy to begin with.
I don’t watch any of them, because it’s all oriented around sucking up to vapid, idiot celebrities.
Letterman is the most lame of the lame the last several years.

David Letterman also is in a partnership with IndyCar racing legend Bobby Rahal. They have a lot of money tied up with that. Those sponsors are twitchy too folks.

Here you go:

Rahal Letterman Racing

Brian1972 on June 10, 2009 at 12:42 PM

What is wrong with him? it’s not even funny if I didn’t like them. Seriously, isn’t he supposed to be funny? Where’s the comedy of the Commander-in-Chief and his daughters or wife? You know the people in the public eye.

Are you hurting for ratings this much Letterman? I like the new Jimmy Fallon show better than yours. JIMMY FALLON. . . tell that to your over paid writers.

Back during the elections, I attempted a grown-up conversation about Palin with another self-important, pathetic dirtball. And I learned that Andrew Sullivan, like Letterman, has no heart, no soul, and certainly no conscience. As these guys continue in their efforts to top each other’s outrageousness, they slip closer and closer to that special place in hell that I just KNOW is waiting for them.

rjoco1 on June 10, 2009 at 12:47 PM

Two points.

First, if anyone bothers to watch Letterman, who sponsors him? Maybe the sponsors don’t care. But maybe they do.

Second, my suggestion for settling this matter is pairing Todd Palin and Letterman in the Octogon for three rounds. And Letterman isn’t allowed any help from his mother or Paul Schaeffer. Letterman wouldn’t last a round.

Your mind may be too simple to understand this concept but it is worth a try:

This is not a conservative/liberal thing, it is a common decency thing. Do you have a daughter, would you want anyone, let alone a national talk show host, talking about raping her? Don’t think so.

rukiddingme on June 10, 2009 at 12:48 PM

O’Reilly does not qualify as a RINO, because he goes out of his way to declare that he’s “independent”.
He resents being called a Republican, or conservative.
That’s why he periodically must go after “right wing radio”, to show his “fairness”.

Marcus on June 10, 2009 at 12:58 PM

@simplesimon

Its not about being thin skin. I am a conservative and I do appreciate satire even about my own positions and about those political figures I respect and admire. I even laughted about the shooting rats joke, and while I thought it was too easy, he was fine going for the far right seating (although Sarah isnt really that far right.. but I guess to the far left, Lieberman seems right wing). But there are lines you DO NOT CROSS. You do not attack a person’s family. Attacking Sarah Palin is fine (as much as I dont like it… but Sarah is a big girl and if she wanted, could kick the crap out of 99% of the Democratic party without breaking a sweat), but hands of the family, especially the children. I assume that you are not a parent (I am not either, but I understand) because if you were, how could you condone such humor. How would you like if someone said your kid was out turning tricks with a disgraced politician or getting knocked up by A-roid?

No.. Simplesimon. You are just like most liberals. You claim to be the party of Civil rights and justice.. but yet it was the Democrats that opposed MLK (a republican, BTW)and the civil rights movement. It is the Democrats who want to freedom of speech, but yet but want to silence all who disagree with them. It is the left who calls a lone nutjob who kills an abortion doctor part of an organized right wing terrorist movement, but when our soldiers are gunned down outside of a recruiting station by a JIHAD TERRORIST, look the other way or say that it was just a lone case.

Its no wonder the symbol of the Democrat party is a jacka$$

Wolftech on June 10, 2009 at 12:58 PM

“Concerning Letterman’s comments about my young daughter (and I doubt he’d ever dare make such comments about anyone else’s daughter): ‘Laughter incited by sexually-perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl is not only disgusting, but it reminds us some Hollywood/NY entertainers have a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands – that acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone’s daughter, contribute to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others.’”

No holding back! Way to go, Governor Palin!!!

DethMetalCookieMonst on June 10, 2009 at 12:58 PM

If you notice, all the FOX interviews she has done involved Greta or Hannity going to meet her where she is, not her coming to their studio.
That’s part of it.
Another part of it is I think Sarah sees in Bill what I do, that he is a pompous blowhard with a high opinion of himself, and a ratings whore.

I’m not sure how I come down on this one. On the one hand it can be interpreted as a slam against Gov.Palin’s daughters but, on the other, Letterman slammed Spitzer for cheating on his wife. In my estimate, Letterman slammed Spitzer all the harder.

I recall when someone some years ago publicly called Chelsea Clinton ‘unattractive’. Nice thing to do to a teenage girl (gross sarcasm here). I didn’t like that at all though I despise her parents to no end. Chelsea should have been left alone.

I guess I have to come down against Letterman in the end. Leave the children of politicians out of matters until they grow to become like their parents as politicians in their own right.

I find this whole moment a bit vague. I mean, when DL joked Sarah was shooting rats and people applauded, was that applause because they think his joke was great or because they like the idea of a woman with a firearm killing rats?

Which is it? I can’t say for sure, but Letterman named Spitzer, not one of Gov. Palin’s daughters. A hell of a lot better than Letterman saying Sarah has a ‘slutty flight attendant look’.

Maybe he’s evolving?

Liberals and other buttnuts eventually become their own undoing. Then the ideological battlefield becomes ours by default. To remind of a line from an old song by the band Chicago, “…The good things in life take a long time…”

Dude, this is not about his wife. Leave her out of it, please.

CBS took no time in firing Don Imus in 2007 for his comments about the Rutgers University’ women basketball team, but yesterday it extended Letterman’s contract through 2011 to 2012.

Second, my suggestion for settling this matter is pairing Todd Palin and Letterman in the Octogon for three rounds. And Letterman isn’t allowed any help from his mother or Paul Schaeffer. Letterman wouldn’t last a round.

THUNDERDOME!! Two go in, only one leaves…

David Letterman. Todd Palin. Locked room.
And a chainsaw.
‘Nuff said.

I don’t get the chance very often, but when me and my gal pals get together we end up in stitches at the humorous (and fresh) observations we make about life and society. How can a few ladies, tipsy on a bit of wine create such hilarity, and trained, well-paid “professionals” can only come up with weeks old left-overs from the back of the fridge?

The fact that Dave will actually EAT the old leftovers, moldy with off-coloured liquid rolling around on top, is telling us that Dave has lost his humour palate and is ready to move on to the tasteless (pun intented) geriatric gruel served up at the 4pm coupon rush.

Ziegler was just on MSN about this.

Outrageous.

Man, don’t they just hate when their “victim” talks back! His “interview” was the funniest thing I’ve seen in many a year. Way to go John!

I almost wish I watched this degenerate asshole.Just so I could have the satisfaction of stopping.

By saying vile stuff like this Letterman is encouraging abuse of minors and possible violence against them. Surely, he has to go. If he doesn’t get suspended or fired then CBS are just as culpable in encouraging this abuse.

If I were the Palins I would really look into legal action, just to see if something could be done against him. Maybe they have no legal recourse, but I’m just so angry and disgusted that I’m just looking for ways this wonderful family can get their pound of flesh. It’s great that we’re all putting pressure on CBS and the sponsors.

I live a couple miles from where Conan tapes. I’m so glad Conan moved out here to tape. The wife and I really need to get tickets to go see Conan soon. Did anyone see the Conan skit where he hijacks the Universal Studios tour and takes it out on the streets? Conan is actually FUNNY! Can’t say enough about Conan.

This Dave guy really seems bitter. I think his anger is more about Conan than anything.

Did I hear some boo’s on that clip?

Don’t know. Not clicking. But what about the following post? Should this be placed on “the watch list?”

What a bunch of thin-skinned “conservatives”.

Letterman isnt a comedian. I never thought he was funny. Remember how he bombed at the oscars?

But now he is a full-fledged hatemonger.

He is Keith Olbermann with a late night show.

I’m not sure how I come down on this one.
Liam on June 10, 2009 at 1:05 PM

Really? Then I guess you’ll love all the material Dirtbag Letterman has in a couple of years when Malia Obama “comes of age.”

What a shite Letterman is. Thanks for the list of advertisers on his show.

labwriter on June 10, 2009 at 1:11 PM

Update on Letermans ratings: for the season he was posting a 3.8 share to Leno’s 5.4/6, Nightline was edging him with a 3.9.
Conan’s debut week blew him out of the water with a 7 share! I suppose ,in desperation, he decided to dump on Palin to create some buzz about him and take attention from Conan. He also scheduled Howard Stern this week ( always a ratings grabber).
Letterman; old, boring, and pathetic.

He has done some goofy stuff, but I agree….this was a comeback interview for him.

Classic. He was just sooooooooo polite and sarcastic at the same time.

Didn’t back down an inch.

What a hack!

rreedstceelz on June 10, 2009 at 1:12 PM

Meh. I stopped paying attention to Letterman years ago (I never found him all that funny, and his show has only gotten more and more cheesy as time wore on), and from the sound of his ratings I’m not the only one. Thankfully, 2012 isn’t that far away.

You kidding me? He just signed another huge contract. He’s not going anywhere.
