Video: Letterman doubles down, makes prostitute joke about Palin’s daughter; Update: Both Palins rip Letterman

posted at 12:10 pm on June 10, 2009 by Allahpundit

Via Conservatives 4 Palin. The punchline’s as stale as year-old bread, naturally, which makes this daisy-fresh by Dave’s usual standards. Here’s Lileks on yesterday’s “comedy”:

Really, it’s just a rote slam: If your mother is a loathed politician, and your older sister gets pregnant, famous old men can make jokes about you being knocked up by rich baseball players, and there’s nothing you can do. That’s the culture: a flat, dead-eyed, square-headed old man who’ll go back to the writers and ask for more Palin-daughter knocked-up jokes, because that one went over well. Other children he won’t touch, but not because he’s decent. It’s because he’s a coward…

Well, one more thing. Some say Dave – I’m sorry, the staff members who wrote the joke and had it printed on cards for him to read – thought the daughter in attendance was the older one who had the pregnancy controversy last year. This is possible; it also means that we accept as an excuse the fact that the writers confused the daughters they wished to humiliate…

One more thing: the monologue contained an Angela Lansbury joke. Dude is OUT THERE.

Here’s what the crack “Late Show” writing staff came up with when, as predicted, he went back and demanded more “sex with Palin’s daughters” jokes. Oh, almost forgot: CBS just signed him to a new deal through 2012. Presumably he’ll have worked his way up to gags about Piper Palin turning tricks by then.

Update: C4P has angry statements from both Todd and Sarah laying into Letterman’s “sexually perverted comments.” Will Dave triple down tonight?

Considering Davey’s wife looks like a man, I wonder if most of this is jealousy that Todd Palin is a very lucky man and both Sarah and Bristol are hot.

But even if it wasn’t Willow that he meant, jokes about rape should at least be fine-able by the FCC. It’s totally unacceptable.

Imagine the outrage had he made that joke about one of Obama or Clinton’s daughters. The guy just put himself in the same class as Garafolo, Moore, Penn, Belafonte and Chavez. I’ll never watch his show again.

On the upside…maybe independents and conservative Democrats will think twice before voting for the scum on the left again. I know that Letterman isn’t a politician, but he represents everything that the left stands for. The more idiots like him speak, the better chance we have at marginalizing the lunatic leftists, including Obama.

Glad that Sarah is fighting back. Leave the kids out of this.
Yes, he will triple down. She is a huge threat to him and all the Liberals out there. We are choosing to not associate with Liberals anymore. Our social circle is much smaller, but it works for me. These Liberals are gut-wrenching.

portlandon on June 10, 2009 at 12:26 PM

basically Letterman is sending a message to Establishment GOP that Sarah Palin can never, ever, go on his Show during the campaign. Like all past GOP nominee’s have as well.

the MSM are trying to force Palin not to run and the GOP not to even think about nominating her.

to we submit in fear and do as they tell us????

jp on June 10, 2009 at 12:26 PM

If MSNBC is going to suspend David Schuster for allegedly alluding that the 27-year old daughter of a NY Senator is a prostitute – saying that she was being pimped out and so forth – then I’m sure CBS is going to suspend a talk show host for saying that the 14-year old daughter of the Governor of Alaska was knocked up in the middle of Yankee Stadium by a ballplayer will be suspended as well. Right?

DarkKnight3565 on June 10, 2009 at 12:26 PM

I’m not too upset about all this. Sure, Dave has a cloaca sitting on his shoulders, and sure, he’s married to a reptile, but he’s pretty typical of the old, white, liberal.

I don’t know anyone who watches his show, and I don’t watch it, so I can only assume his audience is getting what it wants. The good thing is, he’s opened the door for some blowback onto liberal politician’s children.

jaime on June 10, 2009 at 12:27 PM

Dave is bored and wondering how far he has to go before someone pops him. If you’ve seen his wife, you’ll understand. Having a child when he was 61 apparently didn’t provide the excitement he was expecting.

Knucklehead on June 10, 2009 at 12:28 PM

I remember seeing him on the Tonight Show when Johnny Carson was the host and thinking that he was funny; so I stayed up late and remember being disappointed at how unfunny Dave was on his own show. Since then he has grown into a mean old codger.

Bl@ck_Dr@gon on June 10, 2009 at 12:28 PM

Two notes.

First, David Letterman might not see a problem with this because he’s a guy who would bang a cute 14 year old in a heartbeat. He is a dirty old man so we shouldn’t be too surprised when he acts like one. Write the show and ask him if his wife, whom he knocked up, was a hooker when he did her. See what he says. Sounds funny to me, yuk, yuk, so he’ll chuckle at that one, too, right?

Second, and most disturbing (and the above is partly sarcastic — this is horrendous and disgusting at all levels), Letterman is a product, playing to a consuming audience. People laughed. His people, his audience, loves this stuff and howls at it. He’ll keep doing it so long as he gets laughs from his fawning, dung sniffing bobble heads that need someone else to denigrate to make themselves feel superior to (someone/anyone). So many people’s egos are built on the carcasses of those they can manage to pile up and stand astride. If there’s nobody down there when you look down your nose, it’s no fun at all.

Hopefully somone out there is working on a book about the treatment of women, generally, and specifically during and after this last national campaign, in this tolerant, supposedly Christian (predominantly) nation. A collection of the salacious, sexual, predatory, disgusting comments and cartoons, television shows and skits, political “commentary” and locker room jokes, directed at Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin and her (now) entire female family. It would (or should) shock the world that thinks we’re just so special here in the U.S.

If Barack Obama wants to apologize for something that America has done, he doesn’t have to go back that far and he might start right here, with a statement and two phone calls, one to Alaska and one to his Secretary of State.

And, if it really matters, one to David Smut Mouth Letterman.

Final note: Notice nobody’s joking about Todd Palin? I know I wouldn’t. But, then, I guess girls can’t hit back. It’s not ‘ladylike.’

John Cole, to his credit (and no, I didn’t think I’d ever that phrase again) bitchslapped Letterman on his blog. And the majority of his commenters thought he was being stupid and that the Palins deserved any and all crap, including jokes about someone knocking up their underage daughter. I haven’t checked to see the response to yesterday’s bilge from Letterman, but I’m willing to bet that they’re still wiping away the tears of laughter.

Physics Geek on June 10, 2009 at 12:33 PM

They’re trying to make her think that the cost to her family of her running for president would be too high. As a mother, I can empathize — I would be very, very hesitant to expose my children to this kind of poison for several more years. If she backs down for the kids’ sake, she’ll be played as a weak woman. But if her family says, “Go for it Mom. We can take it,” the media will play her as a bad mom for knowing what kind of abuse was in store for her moppets and doing it anyway. The blame will not fall on Letterman and other abusers for the abuse. It will somehow fall on Sarah for not running away and hiding.

oldernwiser on June 10, 2009 at 12:35 PM

Off course Letterman would not be relevant if no one watched him, yet millions of idiots turn to late night TV every night to get their information. When McCain went on the show I lost all respect for him and my respect dropped for Palin when she went on SNL. Until we get politics out of late night and the comedy channel and people engage their brain we will end up with more of the same in Washington. As they say: The thermometer does not make the temperature it just shows it.

dpierson on June 10, 2009 at 12:36 PM

This was vile. Attacks from the left have continue to become more heinous and hateful over the last year. Remember when it was just the looney left on DailyKos and HuffPo that tried to say Trig was Bristol’s kid with Todd. The left wing media wrote that off as just some kooks. Here is Letterman, an avowed liberal and Democrat, cracking more sexually perverted jokes about Palin’s daughters. And nothing but silence. Lets see someone make jokes about Micheal Jackson and Letterman’s kid and see how long it takes the left to cry foul.

Wolftech on June 10, 2009 at 12:36 PM

Was this a pathetic attempt to divert attention away from Conan O’Brien’s show? He sells his soul and reputation to cannibalize the competition. He knew the outrage would get 24/7 coverage for at least three or four days. What a pig.

Strongly disagree. All that would do is boost his sagging ratings. The governor can smack that slimey turd down in a different venue. Maybe on the Tonight Show? That would be a double smack-down. Todd needs to step up and break that SOB’s nose. One punch will do. Gets the point across.
