Letterman: When I joked about Palin’s daughter having sex, I meant Bristol, not Willow

posted at 8:41 pm on June 10, 2009 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

A sneak preview of tonight’s monologue from EW. He wasn’t joking about her 14-year-old daughter being a prostitute, silly. He was joking about her 18-year-old daughter being a prostitute. Perfectly legal. Whew!

“We were, as we often do, making jokes about people in the news and we made some jokes about Sarah Palin and her daughter [Bristol]… and now they’re upset with me…” Letterman says on tonight’s show. “These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter. I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl…. Am I guilty of poor taste? Yes. Did I suggest that it was okay for her 14-year-old daughter to be having promiscuous sex? No.” Saying he hopes he’s “cleared part of this up,” Letterman extended an invitation to Palin to come on the show as a guest.

Don’t you see? He’d never condone statutorily raping a girl who’s underage. All he meant to do was goof on the idea that Palin’s eldest daughter, a single mother with a baby, is a whore. Everything cool now? Let’s move on.

But you’re willing to pick and choose how to use and verbally abuse the children of a politician, in order to promote your political agenda.

You’ve just demonstrated that.

So, if you were someone of public recognition and you took your female child to a ball game, it would be perfectly all right for some so called comedian to intimate that an adult male had sex with her? And further say she was a prostitute? And call you a slut on top of that? No matter your answer, it would be wrong!!

Sasha and Malia are “out there” as you say…. imagine the outrage if the same “joke” was made about them. You’d be falling all over yourself demanding that the tasteless perverted twit be fired.

Sexually loaded “jokes” about any child is not making “fun” of anyone’s family. It’s twisted and pathetic.

Is Palin a threat to the left or something? Why do they feel they need to verbally bash the woman and her family?
Letterman is a cheap idiot. He’s doing the womens movement a world of hurt with this crap. He’s also beating a dead horse so to speak. Palin is a Governor of one of our States and doing a fine job up there. Jokes are jokes and she even went on SNL in good spirit but whats going on now is just wrong. If he were bashing a black family we’d have marches going on by now. She needs to make sure she doesnt go on his show and Conan doesnt need to get involved to prove anything.

What gives me a headache is that Liberals expect us as Conservatives to exercise decorum and restraint and engage in civil conversation in the public arena while they have no intention of doing so. Look at John McCain. He has been reaching across the aisle for years and all that has gotten him is slapped in the back of the head like Leroy Jethro Gibbs slaps Anthony DiNozzo (my favorite show). See Sally S as the latest example.

We are dealing with the most warped people in the left. They pull no punches and they lie and make stuff up and distort reality.

Letterman’s a maroon… sheesh..

Sirdude on June 11, 2009 at 11:53 AM

I’ve always enjoyed David Letterman. His Anti-Comic persona appeals to my sensibilities. And I’ll be the first to admit my sensibilities are a little twisted.

But when I read a few days ago that David Letterman had joked about Sarah Palin’s 14 year old daughter getting raped at a baseball game, I was confused. I’d watched the monologue in question and didn’t pick up on it. When I rewatched it, I still didn’t pick up on it. I had assumed he was talking about Bristol Palin the whole time. Because that’s the only way, to me, the joke made sense.

I’m not saying it was a great joke. It wasn’t. But I don’t think anyone who didn’t already carry a bias towards Letterman would think it was anything more than a joke that wasn’t very funny.

As if getting the Left riled with spiteful, self righteous hatred every morning isn’t enough, Behar will ensure their nightly entrance into the vicious subconscious as well. It isn’t pathetic, it’s reprehensible to drive the public insane.

Unplug the reprehensible.

Quote of the day:

Per ABC News’ Kate Snow: Gov. Palin pushed back at Letterman again this morning, issuing a statement via Palin PAC spokesperson Meghan Stapelton.

“The Palins have no intention of providing a ratings boost for David Letterman by appearing on his show,” Stapelton said in an email to ABC News. “Plus, it would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman.”

pt on June 11, 2009 at 11:59 AM

I can’t believe anyone is supporting Letterman on this. We are talking about someone making sexual jokes about a politician’s CHILD. Even if you want to try to make the very, very lame case that Sarah Palin put her children in the public eye (as Obama put his children in the public eye BTW) it is never, not ever, ok to go after children. They didn’t ask for this, just because their parents are in politics they are not fair game. Anyone who thinks otherwise is lacking in either compassion, common sense or reasonable morals and probably all three.

It’s a great line because it could mean so many things. Should Willow be kept away because she might give Letterman a piece of her mind, because she knows how to use firearms, or because Letterman should be a registered sex offender? We just don’t know what that line really means!

The thing that gets me is that Letterman didn’t even acknowledge his bastard child for a very long time citing “privacy” concerns and then he goes out after other people’s kids? Sure hope nobody is giving him a “World’s Best Dad” mug this father’s day.

Pimped? Really? She acknowledges their existence and you consider that “pimped out”? This is not fair game. This is an example of a double-standard that exista in complete favor of liberal democrats. Here is everything he said replacing “Sarah Palin” with “Michelle Obama”:

Letterman: One awkward moment during the game, maybe you heard about it, saw it on one of the highlight reels, one awkward moment for Michelle Obama at the Yankee game, during the 7th inning her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriquez.
*15 straight seconds of audience laughter and applause*
Letterman: You can see how that can be awkward!

10. Listen, I didn’t know Willow Palin was 14. She was born in 1995. I thought she was still 13.

9. Why’s everyone so mad? I wasn’t making fun of Barack…?

8. I understand some offense was taken over my remarks last night. If that’s the case, I’d like to offer an apology to A-Rod. Tonight on the show, we have…

7. Careful buddy. You’re criticizing the guy who almost got the “Tonight Show.”

6. I’m a comedian and therefore not responsible for anything I say … ask Jon Stewart.

5. See, you all spoiled it. The plan tonight was to come out and tell a similar joke about Barack Obama’s daughters. But you can forget it now…

4. Everyone just needs to relax. Page, six, paragraph seven of the “Democrat Handbook” clearly states Republican children are fair game. Or is that the “Mainstream Media Handbook” … I get them confused.

3. It’s just been brought to my attention that during the campaign Barack Obama declared Sarah Palin’s children off limits. So, I would just like to say that this will never happen again and I hope the President will accept my apology.

2. Would you believe I was hoping to be Keith Olbermann’s “Worst Person in the World”?

1. If what I said was so wrong, why haven’t feminists complained?

There are Retro stations that broadcast. I wish they’d resurrect the old variety shows that pre-date Carol Burnett and the ’70s. Get back to the original live TV variety shows of contemporaries like Gary Moore, Joey Bishop, Dean Martin, and the classic cynic with the violin, Jack Benny. There are so many decades of TV reels that document America’s popular culture via personalities and talents that should not be forgotten. We shouldn’t ignore the respect for high public standards that Americans enjoyed.

Old David Letterman exemplifies degradation, who promotes it, and how it all evolved as typical so-called sophisticated humor. That he has a following is no surprise; the world is populated with Lettermen.

No way should any Palin EVER go to his show. Never, no matter what. I agree with the person who said Letterman should go to Alaska and apologize in person to the entire Palin family.

Geochelone on June 11, 2009 at 12:39 PM

So, what we’ve learned (or has been absolutely confirmed) in the past couple of years is this:

- feminism is only about LIBERAL women

- it’s OK for creepy old men to make jokes about children being raped AS LONG AS the guy is liberal and the kid is conservative (or the child’s mother/father is conservative)

- it’s OK to use the “she had it coming” excuse if the woman was a conservative

- liberals thinks it’s racist to comment about a racist preacher under whose wing the president learned; but it’s not racist or sexist to call a conservative woman stupid, a c*** (e.g. Perez Hilton) or to indulge in hateful rape fantasies (e.g. Playboy)

OK, so please tell me why I shouldn’t want liberals like these to be shipped off to Gitmo??!!

I think this is what Todd Said:

“Nice attempt by Letterman to draw the heat away from himself; however, Willow was the only one at the Yankees game and the only Palin child included in the photo opportunities with the Giulianis, as was obvious. Regardless of which Palin daughter it was, Bristol, Willow or Piper, these sexually-perverted comments are outside the acceptance of mainstream America.”

Regardless of which Palin daughter it was, Bristol, Willow or Piper, these sexually-perverted comments are outside the acceptance of mainstream America.”

Joe Biden made a very public display when his son left for his desk JAG post in Iraq, and before that had him speak at the DNC convention. Governor Palin made no such public display when her son left to serve in the infantry, though she did take a day off from the campaign to see him off in private. So which one REALLY “pimped out their son”?

rockmom on June 11, 2009 at 12:43 PM

Dear Allah,

It would seem then that our so called “hatred” for Kathleen Parker is warranted. She has out done herself this time. In some respects this is more vile and damaging to women than what Letterman did.

We’ve found the real victim, folks.

Jim Treacher on June 11, 2009 at 11:33 AM

Yeah, I think we’ve found who Capitulist and/or Getalife came back as, too.

anniekc on June 11, 2009 at 12:43 PM

highhopes, there’s nothing funny about Letterman. As per Newt, he needn’t appear more human, given his opportunism. You can’t deny that pitting Dave with Newt wouldn’t be an attraction. Dave wouldn’t have a chance in a debate with the likes of Newt whose forte is enunciated explication, the prowess to exploit his opponent’s weaknesses at every turn. This would actually be a politically opportune moment for Newt to show his gallantry towards Palin, just as he did when she accepted the VP position on McCain’s ticket.

If you’re recalling Nixon’s “Sock It To Me” cameo on Laugh-In, or McCain’s pathetic POTUS appearances, your point generally applies well.

maverick muse on June 11, 2009 at 12:44 PM

You know why Palin will never be President? Because she always plays the victim. Always, always, always. Just because she had two children grow up and make poor decisions in their lives, she’s not a bad mother. No, the media is picking on her family. Everyone’s always making fun of her. Oh, let’s all feel sorry for poor Sarah Palin.

Sally S on June 11, 2009 at 11:18 AM

You are illogical, and morally bankrupt. But – you aren’t alone; there are lots of leftists who enjoy attacking people and then accusing them of “playing the victim.”

Blaming the victim. Nice set up. Attack someone in the vilest of ways, then conclude that it’s their fault they got attacked.

I’ve seen this sort of “logic” from ignorant, uneducated bullies on message boards everywhere, and unfortunately, the same is true of many in society. People attack and belittle others, and if they dare object, accuse them of “playing the victim.”

Dumb. Brutish.

She has pimped out her son in Iraq, her pro-life daughter, and her mentally-challenged son. If she pimps them out and puts them on display, they are fair game. She doesn’t get to pick and choose how to use them. Put them out there and they are fair game.

And more bs from a dumb person. Why not blame Obama or Biden for having their family with them during the campaign? Aren’t they pimping out their kids when they put them on display?

What, they’re different? They aren’t supposed to hide their children?

Well, what does this leave? Let’s see. Palin IS supposed to hide her children. She’s supposed to hide her Down Syndrome baby, her son who’s serving the country, and her pro-life daughter.

OH I get it. She’s supposed to be ashamed of them. AND – they are evidence of her being a bad mother.

This open registration thing is for the birds. We end up having to explain the most simple basics to the most simple minds.

Alana on June 11, 2009 at 12:44 PM

Link to both official statements from Mr. Palin and from Gov. Palin.

maverick muse on June 11, 2009 at 12:46 PM

Back in the late 70’s a former Miss America runner-up,Anita Bryant, came out in opposition to a gay rights bill in Dade County ,Florida. She became the target of the entire homosexual community and was threatened ,specifically, with being made a laughingstock on late night television. All the late night comedians followed through on that threat and she became the butt of almost every monologue for at least a couple of years. They pretty much destroyed this Christian woman. A boycott on Florida orange juice caused the Florida Orange Juice Assn. to drop her as spokesperson. Her marriage and her career were destroyed. Ever since then it seems as if late night comedians consider it their duty to bring down the democrat’s political enemies.

It is my personal opinion that Sally S should be banned from HA for her words against humanity and human decency.

With her around we will have no other choice than to fight back with heated language and this would no doubt damage the reputation of HA; something that I do not wish to happen.

Geochelone on June 11, 2009 at 12:48 PM

I think this is what Todd Said:

“Nice attempt by Letterman to draw the heat away from himself; however, Willow was the only one at the Yankees game and the only Palin child included in the photo opportunities with the Giulianis, as was obvious. Regardless of which Palin daughter it was, Bristol, Willow or Piper, these sexually-perverted comments are outside the acceptance of mainstream America.”

Geochelone on June 11, 2009 at 12:40 PM

And what he should have said was, Mister Letterman, you and I need to step out back and have a little talk about what you said about my daughter.

doriangrey on June 11, 2009 at 12:50 PM

Two words come to mind here for Letterman’s apology.

EPIC FAIL!

sarahpalinfan99 on June 11, 2009 at 12:50 PM

Yet another example of the double-standard employed by ALL left-leaning people.

Rizzo on June 11, 2009 at 12:51 PM

Yeah, we liberals believe children should be raped. You disgust me with your hypocrital BS.

Sally S on June 11, 2009 at 11:19 AM

At least on this you’re an honest liberal – that’s a rarity these days.

Gator Country on June 11, 2009 at 12:51 PM

Rush just ripped Letterman now for going after Sarah’s girls!

Called him a bitter, angry old man and “Pathetic!”

sarahpalinfan99 on June 11, 2009 at 12:53 PM

Looks like we need a better class of trolls. Perhaps we need a Troll Czar!

getalife has come back as g0tmylifeback and is might proud of itself, I might add.

Yep. He remembers when the show was great. I guess that was when we were one America.

EPIC FAIL!

sarahpalinfan99 on June 11, 2009 at 12:50 PM

I was watching the Today show (for reasons beyond my control) and they talked about the apology. Even they said it was over the line and was a non-apology apology. The wagons aren’t being circled. Except by trolls and self hating repubs.

on another note… are we seeing a new wave of AstroTurfing with the new enrollment? I think the ban hammer should be much more liberally applied. I wonder what new name getalife picked this time…

Ampersand on June 11, 2009 at 12:57 PM

Why do the new round of trolls positively identify themselves as females now, such as in “Sally?” Is it an attempt by Axelrod to influence the blogs by suggesting that sweet old-fashioned white ladies support Obama?

Sally is probably Rahim.

ladyingray on June 11, 2009 at 12:58 PM

OK, so if getalife has been banned several times…

…and is now publicly acknowledging that s/he is back…

…then why is g0tmylifeback not banned immediately??

Allah, what’s the point of banning people if you simply let them come back with a different username?

Religious_Zealot on June 11, 2009 at 1:02 PM

Just when you think the libs can’t get much lower Sally S comes along and makes people vomit with disgust.

Sally S you are more disgusting than Letterman. US troops are pimped out by their mothers? WOW

Geochelone on June 11, 2009 at 11:35 AM

Again with the liberal meme that US Troops are children who cannot make their own decisions. I enlisted after dropping out of college in my sophomore year, and found that the individuals in the military were much more mature than your typical college student.

coyoterex on June 11, 2009 at 1:02 PM

Is that Dave’s wife? Looks like somebody fed her rock candy with a slingshot.

Dave wanted to hire a clown for his kid’s next birthday, but he found out that John Wayne Gacy is dead.

See Dave, family jokes are really, really funny.
