Visual aid: Just how miserably has the stimulus failed?

posted at 8:27 pm on June 9, 2009 by Allahpundit

Remember this guy? He did a nifty vid a month ago along these same lines to demonstrate just how minuscule The One’s budget cuts were. (I linked it at the time but it’s lost somewhere in the HA archives.) I’m not sure his math’s right on this one, though. Granted, even by the moronic “created or saved” standard, the stimulus is a giant bust so far, having “saved” in three months just 150,000 jobs — less than half the amount that were lost in May alone. But count along with me. The stimulus bill was signed on February 17; even if we treat all job losses that month as having occurred after it went into effect (which we shouldn’t), we lost 681,000 in February, 652,000 in March, 504,000 in April, and 345,000 in May for a grand total just shy of 2.2 million jobs. A crushing amount, but per the video’s analogy, not quite the full table let alone the table plus another few dozen pennies on top.

Just a nitpick, though. Bottom line: There are an awful lot of pennies on the floor, especially given all the pennies that went into keeping them on the table. And don’t think the Democrats aren’t worried about it.

sherry on June 9, 2009 at 8:54 PM

Hyper-inflation should be fun…………

………… especially for those out of work.

What was that theory again………?

……… Oh, yea:

“Cloward-Piven’s early promoters cited radical organizer Saul Alinsky as their inspiration. “Make the enemy live up to their (sic) own book of rules,” Alinsky wrote in his 1972 book Rules for Radicals. When pressed to honor every word of every law and statute, every Judaeo-Christian moral tenet, and every implicit promise of the liberal social contract, human agencies inevitably fall short. The system’s failure to “live up” to its rule book can then be used to discredit it altogether, and to replace the capitalist “rule book” with a socialist one.”

Heyyyyyyyy……………. wait a minute!

………. Wasn’t Obama influenced by the writings of Saul Alinksy???

Why wasn’t this possible scenario brought to the attention of the American public by the National Media before the election………….?

Higher capital gains tax
Much higher energy costs after captain trade

Higher medical costs for free health care
Tax on health care benefits

After a while it adds up to real money – and jobs and productivity lost even if 95% of taxpayers won’t pay more taxes – somehow.

Why the sudden stop in daily reporting of unemployment numbers?

No mention of climbing interest rates and the daily increase of the price of gas.

All those pennies on the floor represent people “sacrificing” for the greater good. Yep, according to Husseinonomics, losing your job is a form of “sacrifice” which is like the patriotic thing to do. No joke:

Obama also addressed workers at plants and dealerships who will lose their jobs as part of the restructuring, warning that “more jobs would be lost,” and adding they were “making a sacrifice for the next generation.”

It’s “a sacrifice you may not have chose to make, but a sacrifice you are nevertheless called to make so that your children and all of our children can grow up in an America that still makes things, that still builds cars, that still strives for a better future,” he said.

Buy Danish on June 9, 2009 at 9:04 PM

Granted, even by the moronic “created or saved” standard,

The correct term is “fabricate”. Let me show you:

the stimulus is a giant bust so far, having “saved” fabricated in three months just 150,000 jobs

You see? Doesn’t that sound more reasonable?

1. Nationalize health care
2. Raise taxes
3. Pass cap and trade (raise taxes even more)
4. Nationalize Chrysler and GM and dump more money into the unions
5. Raise more taxes

It’s another power grab. From the article about Democrats:

[Democrat] Conrad also has expressed concern that a pay-go rule could give more power over the budget baseline used by lawmakers to write the budget to the White House’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) instead of the independent Congressional Budget Office. Under Obama’s plan, the OMB would keep track of what spending is subject to the pay-go law and what is exempted.

“I’ve always been a supporter of statutory pay-go, although, you know, it’s obviously challenging if it means that OMB controls all the scoring,” Conrad said.

While I will still contend that there is something fundamentally wrong with the economic model that relies on unchecked corporate interests to determine all policy…one can no longer even entertain the idea that fiscal stimulus, a la John Stiglitz, Keynes, et al., is somehow a viable option for dealing with fiscal crisis.

as it stands, the IMF prescribed liberalization + spending cuts + interest rate increases stands at 0 and 1. The Stiglitz approved Japanese response of fiscal stimulus now stands at .05 and 2.

we must reconcile, and soon, what worked for the east asian NIC’s with what worked for the Japanese, and form a consensus on the response to financial crisis. this play it by ear sh*t must end, and I will most certainly never again support national politicians that do not propose we do so.
