Video: Jon Voight goes thermonuclear on “false prophet” Obama
posted at 4:32 pm on June 9, 2009 by Allahpundit
Alternate title: “Jon Voight begs to never work in Hollywood again.” He’s no Daniel Hannan but he ain’t bad: Ten full minutes of rhetorical roundhouses here, from Obama’s fraudulent posturing as a “pragmatist” during the campaign to the perils of his Israel policy to the “oppression” of his economic blueprint to the pure polemic of referring to him as a “soft-spoken Julius Caesar.” He’s unfair when he describes our new foreign policy as getting together with enemies in a little playground — The One did, after all, double down against the Taliban in Afghanistan — but if this new Rasmussen poll is accurate, Captain Diplomacy’s willingness to meet rogue regimes “without preconditions” is already wearing thin with a huge majority of the public. Smart power or soft power?
If you need an extra incentive to watch to the very end, the boss gets a shout out. Exit question: Voight in 2012?

Jon Voight thinks Obama’s policies are putting Israel and the West in danger. Address that issue. It has nothing to do with Jon’s personal life, but his personal life is what you are focusing on. That is why you are a troll. You are trying to derail the thread by going off topic.

Or a party loaded with feminists who looked the other way when their darling leader got 37 bj’s from a fat broad more than half his age in the same building his wife slept in.
LtE126 on June 9, 2009 at 6:57 PM
Jon Voigt is not a saint. In politics, I never look for saints, nor pretend the people I support are saints. Instead, I look for people I can trust to do the right thing on the most important issues, and not do too much damage every place else.
To me, Voight gave a great speech. Unless someone can come up with some disqualifying information, I can imagine him running for high office as a Republican.
Loxodonta on June 9, 2009 at 7:00 PM
Yes, George Clooney spent years making idiotic statements, and was dismissed as an idiot. John Voight makes a passionate and straightforward argument against Obama and the Democrats and he is applauded for his passion and willingness to tell it like it is. I’m not seeing the double standard. I think that you’re projecting.

I just watched the video.
All I have to say is, WOOT!!!

???
Hardly. Sounded like a rational and thoughtful talk to me.
infidel4life on June 9, 2009 at 7:17 PM
And made purely to provoke the responses you are getting…
You get 10 people responding to the turds you pump, and then you pick and choose the ones to reply to while carefully ignoring the ones where you get your dumb ass handed to you.
Yeah…you are the classic example of a Punk Assed Dork Boy Troll.

Angelina Jolie says she won’t even talk to her dad in her next life in 1…2….3…

FIFY
Probably a reason why so many of them are liberal, they don’t have the courage of a Jon Voight to disagree with their peers and risk alienation.
infidel4life on June 9, 2009 at 7:23 PM
I’ve been looking for the last half hour, still can’t find any disparaging remarks made by Jon about the Mormons.
So, if an actor plays a part in a movie that some find offensive, do we also hold that against said actor?
Knucklehead on June 9, 2009 at 7:24 PM
That’s exactly the problem with the current state of the republican party. He might as well be talking to dems.
And I agree, it was a great speech, I added it to my ‘favorites’.
RedbonePro on June 9, 2009 at 7:25 PM
Any Republican ticket with Ted Nugent on it would result in the Republican party probably not even carrying Utah.

crazedarmenian on June 9, 2009 at 7:39 PM
I think Mr. Voight, with this speech and his previous public statements, warrants a defense:
Young Lucy Walker was 14 years old when she, along with her mother, father, and nine siblings moved to Nauvoo, Illinois, in 1841, after converting to Mormonism.
Nauvoo’s swampy conditions led to Lucy’s mother, Lydia, contracting malaria. After several months of terrible suffering, Lydia died in January of 1842.
The founder of the Mormon church, Joseph Smith, came to the family’s aid with a “benevolent” game plan: He sent the still-grieving father on a mission to the east, scattered eight of the ten children to stay with other families in Nauvoo, and allowed young Lucy and her teenage sister, Lorin, to board with him and his wife, Emma, at their home.
Not long afterward, one of the ten children followed their deceased mother to an early grave. No father around… a perished mother and sibling… no home to call her own… the grieving and fear was overwhelming for the young teeneager, Lucy.
Not to worry, though. 36-year-old Joseph Smith offered to console Lucy Walker by encouraging her to enter into a secret plural marriage with him in late 1842.
Lucy resisted such an offer, in spite of Smith’s encouragement to her to pray earnestly about the principle of plural marriage. (It would, after all, according to Smith, lead to “exaltation and glory” and to godhood.)
Smith continued to pressure the teenage girl. Finally, while Smith’s wife and Lucy’s brother were in St. Louis, Lucy acquiesced. It was May 1st, 1843. She was sixteen.
Joseph Smith was assassinated in a prison by an angry mob in 1844. This followed his arrest for ordering the destruction of the press of the “Nauvoo Expositor, a one-issue newspaper that exposed Smith’s voracious appetite for multiple wives, among other things.
Before his death, Joseph Smith married over 30 women, ranging in age from fourteen to fifty-eight. Some were single at the time; others were already married to other men.
Petunia, if Jon Voight is a “monster” for playing a part in a movie you perceive as slanderous to the Latter-day Saint church, then I find it necessary to refer you to one many consider to serve that role with much greater weight.
What I wrote above is not a “feeling,” or an “opinion.” The account of his marriage to teenaged Lucy Walker is a fact, borne of internal LDS church documents, external affidavits, journals, diaries, and testimonies.
And it’s pretty repugnant, IMO.
Dion on June 9, 2009 at 7:40 PM
There more conservatives in Hollywood than anyone really knows. Question is…will we see more of this as these folks are taxed at punitive levels.
brennan251 on June 9, 2009 at 7:49 PM
Impeach Petunia!
Ropera on June 9, 2009 at 7:59 PM
I don’t. Nor his divorce, nor any traffic violations, nor his recycling habits.
Also, if Romney were the Republican nominee against any Democrat I know, I would vote for Romney.
I know every group can be defensive about some issue, especially bigotry against them. Sometimes it’s reasonable to be suspicious. And when suspicious, it’s always best to ask questions first, rather than hurl accusations.
So, I tried to be careful about my post requesting supporting information for such a charge. That was almost exactly two hours ago, and there has been no response. Instead, there have been attempts to discredit Voigt for other reasons. So, thus far, the lack of response provides more evidence against the accusers than against the accused.
Loxodonta on June 9, 2009 at 8:07 PM
Heh. As facts would have it, Jon was a Lefty at the time.
MikeZero on June 9, 2009 at 8:07 PM
I think Jon Voight has more courage than most of the people in that room. How many of them would dare to publicly acknowledge Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, and Laura Ingraham on stage like that? They were all even too afraid to clap and cheer for what he was saying. If he had been speaking to a room full of regular conservative folks they would have been standing on their feet.
Kelli_D on June 9, 2009 at 8:22 PM
Voight is on O’Reilly tonight. The first 15 minutes.
Vermont Neighbor on June 9, 2009 at 8:25 PM
I don’t really see what mistakes in Voight’s young personal life have to do with the validity of his views.
Ditto Newt’s.
We could find example after example of moral torpitude in the Democrat Party–Spitzer: who got caught paying for expensive hookers, Clinton had Monica and the blue dress and was impeached, Edwards with his mistress and love child, McGreevey who dumped his wife and children for a homosexual lover…Well, you get the idea.
To say that Voight belongs in the GOP with Newt because they both had marital problems is, on its face, ridiculous, because the Democrat Party is just as bad or worse.
Maybe you should try criticizing Voight on what he had to say, but I seriously doubt you can do that.

Tell it like it is brother. There comes a time when enough is enough.
Sam_I_Am on June 9, 2009 at 8:48 PM
Jon Voight telling it like it is, God Bless him.
Baaboo on June 9, 2009 at 8:49 PM
Just watched BOR’s interview of Voight, and while I usually enjoy most of the Factor, I was peeved by O’Reilly’s efforts to marginalize Voight’s views at every turn. BOR should have the integrity to designate himself as a “pinhead” in his P&P segment.
Elessar on June 9, 2009 at 8:55 PM
This was a political requirement for Obama though. If he thought the American people would tolerate it, he would have withdrawn post haste.
Schweggie on June 9, 2009 at 9:03 PM
I just watched this but have not read the comments. I must point out that for the most part I thought that the response to his speech was tepid. The Republican party has to learn to embrace all parts of it’s team, the diplomats and the flame throwers. I bet if a camera had been turned on any of them that were clapping they would have sat on their hands. The GOP is a party of cowards.
Cindy Munford on June 9, 2009 at 9:22 PM
That was a great speech.

I predict one day, maybe when her father is no longer around, Angelina Jolie will watch this and realize how wise & right her father was.
redridinghood on June 9, 2009 at 10:16 PM
I want Voight’ Transformers castmate Megan Fox to deliver her rebuttal.
Read meat it was. Its funny how Red meat can be widely circulated now for all to see. You want to hit hard and rabble rouse at Fundraisers, you don’t want to tip toe around things. That’s how you get people to reach into their wallets.
For the detractor it would infuriate. But for uncertain audiences I’m not so sure what it would do.
PunditFight on June 9, 2009 at 10:55 PM
That was a great speech, but if the crowd shots were any indication, over half the audience refrained from clapping even on the biggest applause lines. The NRSC and NRCC are pathetic. I’m surprised they invited him instead of Colon Powell.
FloatingRock on June 10, 2009 at 12:43 AM
So, perhaps, either more than half are conservatives or they had enough pragmatists to nudge Voight over the finish line. Maybe they’re not a complete loss.
FloatingRock on June 10, 2009 at 12:46 AM
Stunning to see a Hollywood type say those things. Maybe some of the others will get their heads out of their rear ends.
Dr. ZhivBlago on June 10, 2009 at 1:47 AM
While UI admire Voights thoughts, I found the speech about as “thermonuclear” as a basket of kittens. I guess this is what passes for fiery rhetoric in the GOP today.
Jeff from WI on June 10, 2009 at 6:18 AM
Voight is on Fox right now.

“Everything Obama has recommended has turned out disastrous.”
You ain’t seen nothing yet!
Excellent speech Mr. Voight. It’s time to take the fight to the enemy.
chipandcharge on June 10, 2009 at 7:56 AM
Voight has a lot of courage. The rest of the Lefty Hollywood loons are concerned only with their gerbils. It is true you know what they do with those gerbils.

Jeff from WI on June 10, 2009
I don’t know if this says more about AP’s misunderstanding of rhetoric or of nuclear devices. I thought the speech was restrained. Clearly the “false prophet” line tripped AP’s trigger. Maybe because “false prophet” is sometimes construed to mean “anti-Christ”.
SKYFOX on June 10, 2009 at 8:13 AM
I dunno, I think a President who knows how to handle a weapon would go over quite well with us veterans, hunters and the rest who believe in a strong 2nd amendment.
It would also cut down on the need for secret service protection if we let him pack heat. ;-)
webproze on June 10, 2009 at 8:42 AM
Skyfox, amen, the speech, while good, certainly seemed pretty mild.
Jeff from WI on June 10, 2009 at 9:10 AM
Thank you. Mr. Voight has potential for greatness. Let’s hope he does not pull a Bein. The list are winners and not whinners Let’s move right on.

Smackdown alert!
Kudos to Jon Voight for having the cojones to speak out even if he doesn’t work again a day in his life.
Glenn Beck just interviewed Jon on his radio show this AM. He (Jon) is still fired up!
VibrioCocci on June 10, 2009 at 9:51 AM
There will always be people who wouldn’t know the truth if it slapped them in the face. Great job Jon Voight. I’ll take you over Sean Penn anyday.
bluegrass on June 10, 2009 at 10:06 AM
What an excellent exposition of our nation’s dilemma. Unfortunately for Mr. Voight, character assassination begins any minute now in the press and at lib sites everywhere.
… oh, wait … never mind it already started. here.
Barneys Bullet on June 10, 2009 at 11:44 AM
Ok, I’ll bite.
What’s the difference between him and say Sean penn speaking for the Democrats at all of their silly affairs??
Nothing.
Like anything else – it merely depends on your idealogical bent.
If you are Right leaning you think Jon Voight is the living end, or if you are Democrat you embrace Penn.
But I will say this to keep it Fair & Balanced. All who had a problem with Penn speaking against Bush, i.e., those who were sick of Hollywood getting into politics should have the same problem with this guy.
If not to do so, would make whomever a hypocrite and an idealogue – bigtime.
AprilOrit on June 10, 2009 at 12:35 PM
Who said it was a popularity contest?
I see it as the larger subject that so many posters here have taken issue with – Hollywood in general getting involved with politics.
How many times over the last couple of years here at HotAir have we all taken issue with Penn and Clooney?
Now we casn suddenly cut Hollyweird some slack because of idealogical reasons?
I am just saying – are we all able to jump on the hypocrite train when we hear what we want to hear?
AprilOrit on June 10, 2009 at 12:39 PM
…damn, Jon…don’t mess about…what do you really think?…
…strong stuff…the emperor is nekkid sort of stuff….
…the only news reporting about this that’ll see the light of day will be when SAG demands their membership card back….

The Best I remember was that Mr. Immigration would not allow anyone talking about the Messiah. Something to do with race whatever the hell that is suppost to mean. Read My Lips, ” The Stimulus bill will save jobs only if you act now”. And to think about the crazy fools who believed it.
Change you can believe in but not me!
