Letterman Top Ten: Palin has a “slutty flight attendant look”; Audio: “Pathetic,” says Palin

posted at 3:25 pm on June 9, 2009 by Allahpundit

I bet Ashley Herzog’s bummed he didn’t pull this a day earlier, huh? It would have made a sweet addition to her latest column. The best part: Letterman wondering why Slutty Flight Attendant didn’t stop by the show.

I guess if you can’t make ‘em laugh anymore, you might as well make ‘em wince. You missed your calling as a writer for Playboy, Dave.

Update: Via Conservatives 4 Palin, a double dip of class. This one’s from the monologue.

Update: Conservatives 4 Palin has audio from John Ziegler’s radio show of Palin’s reaction. She’s not amused but cheerful as always.

Update (Ed): John Ziegler has his entire interview with Governor Palin here.

You’d think fatherhood would’ve made Letterman a little more protective of children in general and more sensitive about using his podium to crack jokes at the expense of a 14 year old child. It’s beyond classless to use a person’s child as a vehicle to make swipes at the parent. I guess Letterman thought that his degrading, misogynistic jokes toward Palin didn’t stick the knife in deep enough, so he had to go after her daughter.

Christina_M on June 10, 2009 at 9:56 AM

Why must every dirty, stupid thing said by a liberal jerk about Sarah Palin be posted on this site? She predicted what Obama would do when McCain wouldn’t say it or couldn’t say it. Why must we kill our own? All RINO’s want to be like the Dems. Well let’s act like the Dems. Find one post on HuffPo or other that knocks Dodd, Rangel, Biden etc. And don’t tell me these guys don’t provide a rich source of material.

Joe Biden has most of the qualifications you listed in abundance

Herb on June 10, 2009 at 10:01 AM

Two points. First, Joe Biden claims to have those qualifications but I’ve never understood how he gets away with his claims of being an expert on international affairs. Secondly, the paper resume is only part of the equation. Character also matters and an “academic” who gets caught plagerizing has no character.

Sarah Palin has personality and seems to stand for many of the same opinions as I do on social issues but I simply do not think she’s the right choice to run for POTUS in 2012. I am shocked at the number of idiots (no other way of saying it) that attack anybody who is not completely in the tank for this woman. I’m not a Palin-hater but I want to see the GOP run a serious candidate and that’s not Palin either.

P.S. It’s probably all moot. Any frontrunner at this point is apt to lose the nomination. Just ask Rudy Guillani and Hillary Clinton.

Christina_M on June 10, 2009 at 9:56 AM

I think it’s more along the lines of perpetrating the idea that Palin and her family are trailer trash. Knocked up unmarried daughter, kooky sister-in-law, hunters….. It’s the same attitude that liberal elites have about anybody from the South. However untrue it may not be, Letterman and others will keep up this attack until the public views it to be fact (in the way they keep “quoting” Palin as saying she can see Russia from her house).

highhopes on June 10, 2009 at 10:14 AM

Sorry, Bill Clinton isn’t available — also not Republican. I don’t know who you really have in mind as your candidate of choice, but you’re wrong about Palin. Like you, I don’t “hate” all the rest, they simply are not good enough. I’m content to see how it plays out, though — may the best woman win!

highhopes on June 10, 2009 at 10:14 AM

Indeed, it’s about defining her and trying to make that caricature reality. Either it will become fact in the minds of the fickle public, or it will become a joke that they ignore. Poor ratings for the far-left purveyors of hate are encouraging. Good people need to be steadfast and keep pushing back.

It is far too early to have a “nominee” picked out. An awful lot is going to depend on just how miserable things are after four years of bad stewardship by the filthy liar in the White House because we do not yet know what the hot issues are going to be for 2012 (even though one can make an educated guess).

Palin was introduced on the national stage because McCain needed a social conservative with personality to prop up his campaign after belatedly figuring out that alienating the conservatives is not the way to win Republican support. Does that mean she is the right person to deal with the issues of 2012? Maybe or maybe not but I think she’s making a tactical error running around the country talking at GOP fundraisers instead of taking her critics head-on by doing things and addressing issues that give her credibility in international affairs etc. Also, if she’s serious, she needs to start organizing a grassroots network in the key states already (Bobby Jindal is already doing this as is Romney and [gag] Huckabee).

There’s a very good reason Letterman lost The Tonight Show spot to Jay Leno, and this is it.

Jindal, Romney and Huckabee would have loved to have been invited to this event, but none of them would have helped the NRSC raise money. They don’t draw crowds or enthuse the base. They just know how to campaign, like any politician.

Palin gave a strong statement about the stimulus. She talks passionately and knowledgeably about energy. Gov. Palin was prescient in her statement about cutting missile defense in Alaska and about the threat of North Korean nukes. Even her Zeigler interview helped draw attention to the media bias of the 2008 election.

It appears that your concern is unfounded.

highhopes on June 10, 2009 at 8:52 AM

Calling the President a “filthy liar” doesn’t disguise your apparent admiration for Obama, if you’re willing to give him a pass on his flimsy resume and compare it to Palin’s.

Smalltown mayor v. community organizer

Chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Commission v. part time teacher at University of Chicago (three lectures a year) / Illinois State Senate (also a part-time job)

Governor of Alaska v. US Senate (part time again) / running for President

first woman VP candidate of the Republican party v. first black President (his inauguration was tarred by the scandal of former colleague Rod Blagojevich, tax cheats in Obama’s cabinet, Rezko indictment, foreign policy gaffes… while the media could find nothing to talk about but a pregnant teeanger then unwed mother and her own mother)

I wasn’t responding to the Sarah posts. But if you like I will. Actually I think I did a few hundred posts ago. I like Sarah! I think if we can get a republican in the White House in the next 4 years (I know 3 1/2) she should be the environmental person on the board. Then she will have the experience the jerks on the left want from us, but not from their own, and we will get rid of the middle east and no more bowing to the saudi prince. Just think -”drill alaska!” Give the chinese some competition by drilling off of our coast. Yeh – wind farms on Martha’s Vineyard.

Believe me, I am well aware of the press’s love affair with Michelle Obama (I believe Jack Cafferty came right out and admitted it at least once). I just don’t see this thread as the place for it.

In this thread, it smacks of “they hit our girl, so we’re gonna hit theirs!”

(I also don’t see the attraction in insulting Letterman’s wife. He’s acted like a grade-A jerk w/r/t Palin, but she didn’t.)

Snowed In on June 10, 2009 at 11:36 AM

I used to love watching Letterman, his irreverant humor, silly skits, unpredictable behavior. But over the past few years, he’s become a bitter and angry old man, angry about what I don’t know. He’s become just another shill for The One, carrying water for Dems and Libs. He’s not even-handed in his treatment of politicians, that is crystal clear. I get the sense that he mostly ridicules Governor Palin b/c she’s not like him or his friends or “the rest of America” – as defined by him: and this is her mortal sin that causes such condemnation by him. He’s unwatchable. If folks want to send Mr. Letterman a message, the best thing to do is not watch his show.

WordsMatter on June 10, 2009 at 11:55 AM

“Any ‘jokes’ about raping my 14-year-old are despicable. Alaskans know it and I believe the rest of the world knows it, too.”

- Todd Palin

“Concerning Letterman’s comments about my young daughter (and I doubt he’d ever dare make such comments about anyone else’s daughter): ‘Laughter incited by sexually-perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl is not only disgusting, but it reminds us some Hollywood/NY entertainers have a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands – that acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone’s daughter, contribute to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others.’”

So you think it’s just too snarky for this site. Then put up a picture of her clothes and let us comment on that. Since the msm just loves everything about her, including that stupid yellow dress for the crowning, to the clothes she wore to meet the Queen, to the gift they gave her, to her bare (wonderful ) arms, you can imagine what they would’ve done to Laura Bush if she was in the same clothes. Maybe Laura is a little older, but she knows what decorum is and adheres to it and is a class act.
Letterman is a joke and I’ve had enough of him. I have no idea who is wife is, but heaven help her and their child.

There is a process to this stuff and like it or not Sarah Palin is not the only one that is going to be considered as part of this process. People are going to be critical of each and every wannabe’s record. He made another statement about WP but I can’t remember the wording but it too was in insult to Palin and her daughter. What is wrong with this idiot? You might not want Palin for your next president but should her children be subjected to crap like this? I know Rush will say this just his form of humor but this puts me real close to dropping him from my list of talk show host. I’m almost to the point where I can’t stomach O’reiley. You make take that as a sign of affection towards Sarah Palin and her daughter but I don’t. I see it as saying that if he had not been busy then he could have knocked her up, thereby implying that Willow would have been willing. And you will be respected more if you refrain from making statements like I must not listen to Rush very often or anyone doing anything for which you no clue.

Sent through the feedback form on CBS’ web site:

Mr. Letterman, as someone who has watched your show on and off – when I couldn’t sleep – since ‘95, let me tell you that I considered “Late Show” to be the funniest thing on night time television alongside “Night Stand with Dick Dietrick.” Your Top 10 lists (especially that year’s “Signs Judge Lance Ito Is Really Mad”) could always make me choke laughing.

However, unlike “Night Stand . . . ,” your material centered on matters that were of actual importance – making it feel like life wasn’t meant to be taken so seriously.

As then, as it is now, politically related banter was a part of your show. However, in my estimation, it was always classy and never crossed that “line” we all know exists. Even if we are not personally in favor of regulating people’s speech and/or designating particular words in the English language as taboo, we all know of this thing called tact.

With your deplorable comments, and insinuations that Governor Palin as well as her daughter are both sluts, you have not only crossed the line but broken it into bits. I ask you, would your comments have been deemed newsworthy if you instead made them about Michelle Obama or Crystal Mangum? Perhaps they would – we all saw what happened to Imus for uttering words that, although in the end disrespectful to a woman’s basketball team, do not carry any racial hostility in today’s vernacular. Or, perhaps they would not. Your political leanings are no secret; I think some quarters would insist upon giving you a free pass.

Which begs the added question, have you gotten any hate mail from feminists yet?

I’m sad to say I will no longer be watching your show at all, Dave. The lowering of your standards into partisan hackery lacking even the most basic decorum has made your show devolve from an occasional – and figurative – Unisom substitute into a literal one.

Good day.

I completely disagree. Palin addressed this latest indignation with an appropriate response. The left spent 8 years denigrating George Bush, and he just took it. There was never a counter-argument, no rebuttals, and those whose minds are easily pursuaded lapped up the liberal kool aid in buckets. It helped shape the last election.

We need to show the leftist goons like Letterboy that we can be outraged by his classless, sophomoric remarks, and there is no place in America for his kind of insulting drivel.

The bum should be made to apologize to Sara and her daughter in person on primetime television. He should then resign.

Sweet_Thang on June 10, 2009 at 3:52 PM

David Letterman’s child would not like being the butt of rape.

Letterman is the expression of why so many Americans disdain everything associated with his show; the obnoxious people who think that sex abuse is humorous, the locale that promotes his ideological antipathy for decency, the bandwagon of so-called sophistication that doesn’t amount to anything beyond elitist seduction that destroys your sensibilities towards humanity that you forfeit for a piece of that pie in the sky promoted as popularity.

To hell with David Letterman for manufacturing more hatred to divide America further.

CBS is just happy to hear their phone ringing and, in their twisted little minds, enjoying the publicity. Get the phone number for Dave’s mom – let’s see how she feels about his vulgar mouth! What a waste of oxygen he has become!

You know, I leave for two days to be sick and registration is opened and the trolls creep back in.
And I thought it was going to be a boring summer.

Feedback to CBS

I heard Rush talking about this today. Some unhinged moonbat called up and accused him of always doing the same thing, and when Rush asked for a specific example, he naturally had no answer. He eventually came up with the lame accusation that Rush makes fun of Biden for having hair plugs. Of course, he DOES have plugs, so . . . Anyway, Rush does say things sometimes that come pretty close to the line, but the fact that the liberals are incapable of distinguishing between a comedian calling women sluts and joking about teen girls being raped, and a talk show host making sarcastic comparisons between The Zero and God (which he was also doing today) shines the bright light of truth on exactly which party is the sexist one.

I really used to like Dave but he’s become such a bitter, washed up old has-been. His obsession with Gov. Palin is a little disturbing. And I think he owes Willow AND A-Rod a big apology.

I think Dave’s Mom must of been a real sicko considering how he turned out.

‘Laughter incited by sexually-perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl is not only disgusting, but it reminds us some Hollywood/NY entertainers have a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands – that acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone’s daughter, contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others.’”

– Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska8starsnorth on June 10, 2009 at 3:50 PM

Very nice. An ice pick in the ear.
Older man, sexual exploitation of minors, use and abuse,..looks like the ball is now in Dave’s court. Prove you aren’t a pervert, Dave. Prove you don’t encourage abuse of minors. Proving a negative is hard, isn’t it Dave?

Not following sports at all, nor interested in the gossipy dramas that go on in that sphere, can someone explain what Alex Rodriguez has done that would provoke jokes about him being a pedophile?

These are serious times and I want a candidate with experience in national security decision making, crafting of national public policy, exposure to international affairs, a proven record in economic policy making and fiscal conservatism,

Sarah Palin is simply not my candidate of choice.

highhopes on June 10, 2009 at 9:40 AM

What you describe is a pointy-headed policy wonk that would be completely unelectable. That person would have no charisma, no personality, no political savvy, would be more wooden than Algore. We’ve NEVER elected a President with the resume you describe. Those types of people don’t run for President. Moreover, you don’t want that in a President. You want a President that can find those people to be on the Cabinet.

FDR had none of those qualifications, yet managed to make the Depression worse…er…I mean, get us out of the Depression, and defeated 3 dictators.

JFK had none of those qualifications

Reagan had none of those qualification, yet pretty much singlehandedly brought down the Sovient Union.

B.J. Clinton was a Governor of a backwater, uneducated state, and had none of those qualifications.

To repeat, you will never find someone with those qualifications that is either willing to run for President, or would be electable.
