Heart-ache: Palin snubs Washington insiders after GOP dinner

posted at 5:35 pm on June 9, 2009 by Allahpundit

Golly, I wonder why. Might it be because they dump on her at every opportunity, from lowballing her in insider polls of presidential prospects to sneering at her anonymously about her lack of gravitas? To wit:

Gingrich held forth for nearly an hour, delivering a policy-heavy address that few Republicans, and surely fewer Democrats, think Palin could match…

It was a bad scene for Palin, according to GOP strategist Matt Mackowiak.

“She has to sit there and agree with him, knowing it’s a speech she cannot give, that she is not equipped to give,” Mackowiak said.

I.e. she’s a moron. How come they all want their picture taken with her, then?

Several Washington Republicans contacted by Whispers said that Palin was quick to leave the Senate-House Dinner, apparently ignoring a line of those who wanted to meet her. (Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, in contrast, stayed late to shake hands.) “She came, she stayed the entire event, then at the end, a buddy and I headed to her table—my buddy actually set eyes on her—and then, poof, she was gone,” said a GOP source with ties to House and Senate conservatives. “There were 40 people standing around her, just wanting to say hello and wish her well, and she just ran out the back door.”

A big deal? Yes, for the Washington crowd that likes to control the party. “For a ‘woman of the people,’ she has got some learning to do,” sneered the insider. “Heck, she has a whole lot to learn. And get some decent staff around her. Most of the mistakes since November are not people out to get her. They are 99 percent self-inflicted by her own staff who are simply not up to the job of effectively serving a national political figure, which is what she has become.”

As much as grassroots conservatives will thrill to the thought of her cold-shouldering D.C. double-dealers, she really will need some of these people for money and policy help down the line if she’s thinking about higher office. There are two ways she can get them: Either make nice, which is probably pointless since they seem to think of her as a hick who’s not worth taking seriously, or put on a show of fundraising prowess so spectacular that they’ll beat a path to her door. SarahPAC is the obvious vehicle but I’m disappointed with how low-key she’s been about it so far; compare the quality of her site, for example, to Mitt’s. Granted, Romney and Huckabee don’t have day jobs as governors now and can devote more time to their PACs than she can, but she’s far more the darling of the base than either of them. She should find some cause she wants to raise money for and then start pushing the site to talk radio in hopes of drawing the sort of repeated small donations that made Obama’s fundraising so mind-blowing. If she can do that, the Beltway will take her seriously whether they want to or not. Can she do it? Does she want to?

FYI, here’s the extended web clip of her interview with Hannity. The most eventful bit is the one Drudge quoted, but the last two minutes are worth watching just to see how chummy Hannity is with her. Say this for him: Unlike the modern-day Murrow at MSNBC, at least he makes no pretense whatsoever of objectivity.

true but until Obama those policies where done by mostly whites to whites. No its a black person doing it to whites. For many that changes things in there minds. Why i have no idea but it does. Just like blacks would scream bloody murder if whites were the ones pushing th abortion clinics in their neighborshoods but since the majority black leaders are pro abortion they do not have a problem with it.

human nature is hard to understand. It always has been and always will be

unseen on June 9, 2009 at 6:59 PM

Well, some of these policies are embraced by blacks and whites. Many whites and the powerful blacks really don’t think the lowly blacks could ever pull themselves out of that hole of despair. Therefore, they throw money at the burning problem.

Further, some of them use this despair to empower themselves and enslave the individual.

No, I do not need to prepare for my supreme court hearing.
What I mean is the the old white men, mostly Newt but you can add in McCain and Huckabee and a few others, just pontificate and love to hear themselves talk.
Sarah is not an old white man, which as well as appealling to everyday Americans make her a terrific alternative to the elite snobs. It is not because she is a woman, young, old, white or any other trait, it is because she is real.
The elites are snobs that have completely forgotten what most American’s lives are like.
Newt is terrific acedemically but for goodness sake, he is not who will win the hearts and minds of the middle. I’d vote for him over McCain and certainly Obama but that’s not saying much.

Palin leaves Alaska for 4 days and the media, the GOP, libs and Elites go bat shit crazy.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

portlandon on June 9, 2009 at 7:07 PM

Your example though is flawed. Any black Republican is equated with Clarence Thomas (Uncle Tom). They are somehow a sell-out. Further the powerful blacks in the community will NOT support them and they will use their version of identity politics to smear his/her name.

This dig is so 2008. You should move onto the toe nails… You might have a better chance.

You are right about one thing. Obama is superior to Palin due to his being the Senator of Chicago. He passed some great bills through City Hall and he enacted a great energy plan.

Upstater85 on June 9, 2009 at 7:08 PM

Wasn’t referring to them. Conservatives claim that basically any liberal, moderate or voter who doesn’t like Palin at this point is simply being an “elitist”, because we supposedly don’t like her because she rides snowmobiles and hunts moose, as opposed to the reason that she never traveled outside of the United States prior to her presidential run, she couldn’t name five countries in Africa to save her life and didn’t know what NAFTA was.

Jesus. I hope that Mittens is paying you good money for this Astroturfing job of yours, ’cause what you’re writing is total merde.

-You know she went to Kuwait to visit the Alaska Guard before she was picked by McCain.

-You know she took Geography class in High School and that it was found later that the whole “Africa” story was made up by a left wing blogger who boasted about peddling the story to Carl Cameron.

-You know that as a Governor who has to deal with Canada and the lower 48 about the AGIA deal, she knows what NAFTA is.

Now run along and tell Mittens to pay Chris Christie back for the balloon money he wasted on those fifty zombies who showed up at that dead-ass rally that Christie wasted his good money on.

I think you’re confused. “Any” liberal does not an elitist make. There are plenty of indoctrinated, mindless, unwashed, government cared for leftists out there who aren’t anywhere close to being “elitist”. Besides, I’ve never heard any conservative interchangeably refer to leftists as elitists, socialists, communists, pro-death ect. The term has a specific connotation.

Also, if you just want to attack Palin, why not just do so? No need to do it in a round about way. Might as well get it all out now … while you have the chance.

For me, values and judgment matter. Good judgment is often learned through experience, especially experience being in charge. No president is an expert on every issue–there’s too much to know. That’s why they have advisers.

And who cares if a president has been out of the country? Unless he/she is going to be called on to recommend a restaurant in Bangkok, I can’t see how that would ever matter.

This guy is emblamatic of the things that are wrong with the republican party. He’s buddie with the guys at politico and moveon.org. He’s a total washington insider, one of the self annointed elite. Guys like this ran the mccain campaign. They are effete, self important creeps who manipulate the process behind the scenes. I’m hoping that Palin doesn’t decide she needs any of these washington dirtbags, my guess is that she turned down this guys services and he’s taking a shot at her. I hope Romney is smart enough not to employ any of these sleazes either, or any other of the outside the beltway conservative hopefuls either. I hope Romney, Palin, Jindal (and I’m not sure there is anyone else out there I want to listen to) realize that with the new media and the internet they can flush these leaches down the toilet and bring their message staight to the American people. Despite what these washington bottom dwellers would have us think, communications isn’t rocket science and they aren’t the smartest people in America.

I’m here in Gwinnett County Georgia.

Sara Palin single handedly dragged Saxby Chamblis’ butt across the finish line to a win by stumping with him the last few days before the election. Who was he running against? Some no-name back bencher D from the state senete that was using rotgut rappers for endoresements and promising the world including the candy canes.

The common folk in Georgia were royally PO’d at Chamblis over his enthusiastic support early on for the McCain-Bush amesty crap. His phone and email were smoked and Chamblis changed his tune right quickly! LOL! Back to Palin though, she drew amazing crowds and we went nuts while Chamblis stood in the background and smiled. Governor Palin is an amazing person.

Now we in Georgia are having more assults on our voting by non-eligible (illegal and dead) voters by the DOJ’s opinion against the State’s requirement for voter ID, which is in conformance with federal law and held as satisfactory in federal court challenges. This is not acceptable. I trust Governor Palin to steamroll who needs flattening. I’ll be kicking into SaraPAC to do a small part (besides my vote) to set things right.

One of the least smart aspects of this argument is equating the population of Alaska to the alleged ‘ignorance’ of its governor. Also stupid is comparing one county in a thoroughly corrupt state to a territory the size of Alaska

Your county’s main resource is probably graft; Alaska’s resources are…….different. And more valuable

To answer one of your earlier brilliant questions, many people like Palin because people like you blindly attack her with stupid juvenile remarks and re-cycled Dem talking points ( as you do )

As Governor of Alaska, not only does Palin negotiate with foreign governments, something that O’bama never did, she is also Commander in Chief of the Alaska Air National Guard, whose defenses are regularly tested by the Russians.

So, your from Jersey, eh? That explains a lot. Most corrupt state in the US (and I would know, as my father’s side of the family came from there).

I’m so tired of the whiny, two-faced pricks in the republican party. Why would Palin want to stand around and jaw with a bunch of backstabbing punks? They can’t wait to take a picture with her, but after she’s gone they smear, malign, and insult her. Basically, republican elites treat her exactly like the despicable mainstream media treats her — just not to her face.

Gov. Palin is the best thing to happen to our party in a very long time. People need to get over themselves and check their egos at the door. We need to rally around each other and come together so we can win some freakin’ elections.

No republican on the planet can raise the kind of doe Palin can, so at a “fundraiser” who really gives a damn about Newt’s great speech. The people want to see Palin and want to give money because of Palin. Not allowing her to speak last night out of fear of overshadowing Newt is ridiculous.

Newt is on my TV bloviating every single day. Who gives a damn if he gets overshadowed for a night. He’s a big boy who I hope can handle that for the good of the party.

The intellectual elitist wing of the party makes me sick. Get over yourselves. What the hell have you done for the party lately? The Washington cocktail party circuit doesn’t mean d*ck in the real world.

she really will need some of these people for money and policy help down the line if she’s thinking about higher office.

Pfft. She just isn’t willing to prostitute herself for their tepid endorsements.

It will be they who will need her when the Great State of Alsaka becomes the Republic of Alaska.

She’ll be happy to sell the USSA Alaskan oil at $100 per barrel.

So can chickenhawks. Ever seen one swoop down and grab its prey? They then eat them alive and raw.

I could never figure out why the military-haters on the Left would compare those who did not serve with such a blood thirsty animal. Those hawks make John-Gus Khan look like a chipmunk.

But then, of course, they were stupid enough to run an idiot for President in 2004 as a “war hero” from a war he and they had trashed for decades.

On top of that, he was a “war hero” who refused to release all of his military records to the public, while at the same time demanding that his opponent do so.

His opponent did, he didn’t. And his lemmings happily voted for him anyway.

Del Dolemonte on June 9, 2009 at 8:54 PM

I wish the GOP spends less time trying to snipe at and undermine each other, and spend the effort instead in formulating a strong united alternative to the Democrats. The more the GOPs stay in disarray, the longer will the control of power stays in the hands of the Democrats.

No, She was on the campaign trail for about 2 months. Obama on the other hand, spent about 2 years of his 1st senate term campaigning.

Ewwwww. You live in New Jersey???

That certainly proves that you are a moron!

BTW: How’s the taxes in your home county in new jersey? Going up? How many times did you vote for that ignorant s**thole of a governor???

Good luck on all that NJ stuff.

it’s not the number of people iin the state that matters – what a dopey argument: it’s how you run the place. Your gov Corzine is the typical criminal that new jersians keep on electing and if you keep on electing crud like him, you deserve what you get, and you can rot in it.

I’ll take Sarah Palin’s governance any day over your idiot!

seanrobins on June 9, 2009 at 9:09 PM

BS!!!!!

Anybody who knows Palin knows she NEVER would leave a line of people cold like that. If she saw them or noticed them, she’d have put in the extra time because she loves to meet people and she is a gracious person.

Accusing her of that is like accusing Barbara Bush of shoplifing.

More lies that the outside the beltway doesn’t believe.

If this Mackowiak said this, it means KBH is way jealous of the Cuda.

Sapwolf on June 9, 2009 at 9:11 PM

Eff the GOP…. Asshats, all of them…. This may be a whig moment…. 3rd party time? Sarah has the grassroots support to immediately form a substantial base…. she may not ever win a national election, but she could set the stage for putting the beltway liberal republicans out to pasture.

I always laugh when I see the MSM beating up on her.

Too bad she’s a conservative or the feminists would be really upset.
Too bad.

I look at her and after I get over how gorgeous she is and how strongly she talks about things, it never ceases to amaze me how much the Left despises her.
She’s the new BOOOOSH.

If she runs in 2012, the culture war will have it’s Gettysburg.

B Man on June 9, 2009 at 9:39 PM

There are two ways she can get them: Either make nice, which is probably pointless since they seem to think of her as a hick who’s not worth taking seriously, or put on a show of fundraising prowess so spectacular that they’ll beat a path to her door.

As much as I like Sarah Palin and as much as I would love to see her run in 2012 or 2016, I’m beginning to think she should just say “Screw it!” and let the insiders call the shots. Let them throw together a moderate ticket for 2012 to draw the support of the “independents” and “moderates” and Latinos and women and whatever other balkanized bits and pieces they think they can attract. They don’t need no stinkin’ base. Let’s see how that works out.

ddrintn on June 9, 2009 at 9:40 PM

Oh boy, how I love open registration days. ;o)

Anyway, so Gov. Palin is incapable of giving a speech? So incapable, I guess, that she was originally the first choice to be the keynote speaker at this shindig. So eager they were that the organizers publicly declared her the keynote speaker before she even had a chance to properly accept or decline. This guy is a complete moron.

If Sarah Palin were as irrelevant as the sneering insiders would like to believe, she wouldn’t be in a position to get up and leave as soon as the dinner was over. The fact that she did and that the rest of them are the ones in a tizzy over it plainly shows who is in the power position in this party. And it’s not the nobodies like Moronwiak.

As for Newt, I like him OK, he’s been a decent conservative for the most part, but he kind of lost me back when he quit his post as Speaker instead of standing up to Clinton. That’s hardly the mark of a leader. He strikes me as weak and vacillating, taking far too much time to weigh decisions and trying to figure out the most expedient outcome. This isn’t what I want in a president. Sadly, many of the party elite, including some of the 2012 front runners, seem to be afflicted with this particular malady. Gov. Palin, OTOH, seems refreshingly uninterested in what other people think.

NoLeftTurn on June 9, 2009 at 9:42 PM

I’m beginning to think she’s NOT going to say “screw it”.

She’s pissed. At many different things, and she’s not the type of person to just ….let it go.

They’re messing with the wrong woman.

It doesn’t bother me. But I’m sure those “coastal populations” won’t mind red-state money in bailing out their broke asses. You’re bleeding people anyway.

I don’t see why you’d be quite so confident, given Obama’s mastery in handling the economy so far.

ddrintn on June 9, 2009 at 9:50 PM

SarahPAC is the obvious vehicle but I’m disappointed with how low-key she’s been about it so far; compare the quality of her site, for example, to Mitt’s. Granted, Romney and Huckabee don’t have day jobs as governors now and can devote more time to their PACs than she can, but she’s far more the darling of the base than either of them… Allah”

Allah: she doesn’t need that from Sarah Pac. She has Conservatives4Palin.com, TexasforSarahPalin.com, Team Sarah and about 47 other active sites and over 200 less active sites that keep abrest, up to the minute, on her every move and what others say about her. They take down rumors real fast. I don’t think Mitt and Huck have anywhere near that and so they have to hire a staff to do it for them.

CCRWM on June 9, 2009 at 9:51 PM

If she can do that, the Beltway will take her seriously whether they want to or not. Can she do it? Does she want to? Allah”

My impression is that she is the “reluctant servant” I think she will do what she thinks is right or what she feels she is called to do. I don’t think she wants to endure all this.

CCRWM on June 9, 2009 at 9:56 PM

If she brings in money, the insider “geniuses” will turn very quickly in her favor.

Add to that the double digit unemployment numbers.

They just don’t like her because the country is in the grips of Obama fever.
He’s still “cool”. When that goes away -and it will- the insiders will change.

Poor Sarah…they pick on her because they can’t be like her. It’s a good thing she has thick skin. She has something to offer this country…common sense. She’s a patriot to take this abuse from inside and outside of her party for the sake of the country. Only the future will tell the positive changes she can make. I am just not so sure that she can ever win as president or VP because it’s obvious many people (both men & women) have a problem with successful, smart & beautiful women.

Thanks Doug, I didn’t recognize his name.

Kay thinks she can be governor, but it’s not going to happen.

Never Again!

Ah. Now it all comes together.

There has been a hidden hand behind a lot of the trash directed at Palin from the D.C. Republicans.

Last year, there was speculation that McCain might pick Kay Bailey. I asked my well placed Consultant Buddy on the West Coast of Florida (deeply wired in with the Bush Family, the NRCC, the Wednesday Group that’s chaired by ATF, and the NRA people) and he told me “No way, McCain and Kay Bailey hate each other like poison.

Then McCain and Condi sat down and Condi begged off. She didn’t want to be first mate on McCain’s Titanic and while Condi was a conservative, the Base had problems with her at State. Besides, she had Bush baggage.

Eventually, McCain had a flash of insight and settled on Palin. Best political stroke he ever made. Took a blowout and made it into a respectable loss. Now he still couldn’t stand Kay Bailey, and in all likelihood asked Palin to endorse Rick Perry, the Governor of Texas and GW’s heir apparant the Statehouse. Palin obliged, although she shouldn’t have. She’s been on Kay’s sh*tlist ever since. If you want to know where a lot of the Palin skankarama comes from, you can look no further than Kay Bailey’s office (who, by the way, is an enthusiastic Mittens supporter, like all the Beltway Lounge Lizards).

BTW, expect Palin to campaign her guts out for McCain’s reelect. She has this crazy loyalty thing for the old guy. And why not. He picked her out of nowheresville and made her a household name. He’ll want some payback, and he’ll get it.

Yeah, there’s a serious deficiency; let’s try this – I’ll give you 5 weeks (during which time you’ll need to both campaign and do your regular job) to prep for a debate with a career pol who’s already run for president in 2 primary campaigns. Last on the list would be “catchphrases.”

massrighty on June 9, 2009 at 10:46 PM

It was definitely not a heartache that she “snubbed” GOP/Washington insiders. She showed up at the event after all, though it seemed she had to be coaxed into it. Her skepticism of the GOP and all of those who surround it is consitent with what she seems to stand for–an outsider who is tired of all the nonsense that goes on in Washington. I love it. It wasn’t a snubbing as much as it was a statement that they need her more than she needs them. Seems to me like the GOP can’t even get the greeting line right. They have a lot of work to do, with many years to go before they can build a record of conservativism and trust in order to bring us back. Gov Palin must feel the same way…

Yes we are. And by the way, stop wasting your time by speculating what she “should” do. She only needs to be herself. Better for her to keep her integrity than try to be something she is not, we saw how well that worked when the dumb@ss Republicans tried to stifle her in the last election.

This only makes me like her more. The old guard Repubs are so scared of her and should be. Someone in a previous post said she’s real, and that she is. Newt, Mitt, and the rest of the Washington entrenched need to go home. Newt talks a good game until the libs get on him; then he’s quick to apologize and start backing up-no courage. I say throw all the bums out on both sides of the aisle in Washington.

The left is terrified of Gov. Palin. They know she is real, and that’s what scares the hell out of them. They also know if the “real” people of this country ever stand up, they’re in trouble.

texanpride on June 9, 2009 at 11:06 PM

the insiders deserve that snub….. Now they pretend as if they matter. Well they don’t and they are irrelevant. These insiders are insecure, clueless and crappy bunch of Washingtonians. These insiders are the root cause of downturn of GOP interms of policy and perception. Gov. Sarah is governing one of the most crucially important states in the USA;
