Heart-ache: Palin snubs Washington insiders after GOP dinner
posted at 5:35 pm on June 9, 2009 by Allahpundit
Golly, I wonder why. Might it be because they dump on her at every opportunity, from lowballing her in insider polls of presidential prospects to sneering at her anonymously about her lack of gravitas? To wit:
Gingrich held forth for nearly an hour, delivering a policy-heavy address that few Republicans, and surely fewer Democrats, think Palin could match…
It was a bad scene for Palin, according to GOP strategist Matt Mackowiak.
“She has to sit there and agree with him, knowing it’s a speech she cannot give, that she is not equipped to give,” Mackowiak said.
I.e. she’s a moron. How come they all want their picture taken with her, then?
Several Washington Republicans contacted by Whispers said that Palin was quick to leave the Senate-House Dinner, apparently ignoring a line of those who wanted to meet her. (Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, in contrast, stayed late to shake hands.) “She came, she stayed the entire event, then at the end, a buddy and I headed to her table—my buddy actually set eyes on her—and then, poof, she was gone,” said a GOP source with ties to House and Senate conservatives. “There were 40 people standing around her, just wanting to say hello and wish her well, and she just ran out the back door.”
A big deal? Yes, for the Washington crowd that likes to control the party. “For a ‘woman of the people,’ she has got some learning to do,” sneered the insider. “Heck, she has a whole lot to learn. And get some decent staff around her. Most of the mistakes since November are not people out to get her. They are 99 percent self-inflicted by her own staff who are simply not up to the job of effectively serving a national political figure, which is what she has become.”
As much as grassroots conservatives will thrill to the thought of her cold-shouldering D.C. double-dealers, she really will need some of these people for money and policy help down the line if she’s thinking about higher office. There are two ways she can get them: Either make nice, which is probably pointless since they seem to think of her as a hick who’s not worth taking seriously, or put on a show of fundraising prowess so spectacular that they’ll beat a path to her door. SarahPAC is the obvious vehicle but I’m disappointed with how low-key she’s been about it so far; compare the quality of her site, for example, to Mitt’s. Granted, Romney and Huckabee don’t have day jobs as governors now and can devote more time to their PACs than she can, but she’s far more the darling of the base than either of them. She should find some cause she wants to raise money for and then start pushing the site to talk radio in hopes of drawing the sort of repeated small donations that made Obama’s fundraising so mind-blowing. If she can do that, the Beltway will take her seriously whether they want to or not. Can she do it? Does she want to?
FYI, here’s the extended web clip of her interview with Hannity. The most eventful bit is the one Drudge quoted, but the last two minutes are worth watching just to see how chummy Hannity is with her. Say this for him: Unlike the modern-day Murrow at MSNBC, at least he makes no pretense whatsoever of objectivity.

LOVE. HER. – Palin keeps it simple, speaks the language of us tax paying hard working peasants, loves life, loves kids, has a HAWT hubby, is humbled by her love of country and gasp, offers NO APOLOGIES for America or any of her moral, sound views.
We are a great nation – a nation of exceptional free people. We should be represented by someone who is a patriot; a full on zealot full of admiration for America. Not a jealous angry radical whose disdain for the motherland rides on his sleeve. HATE. HIM.

I would be much more comfortable in my blue jeans and flannel shirt with Sarah Palin then any of the blue blood republicans. She has enough competence and confidence to walk away with her chin up than bending over with her ankles in her hands. God bless Sarah. I also never heard her engage in any back stabbing. John McCain got lucky picking her and he wasn’t good enough to close the deal.

This is precisely why the Repubs will lose again. They can’t see that the path to victory lies not with insider types but with people far removed from DC and its ills. How many times did we hear over the years that senators rarely get elected POTUS? Yet we’ve fallen back on that tried-and-failed formula, apparently believing their years in the Senate make them great thinkers and leaders. There are exceptions, of course (Thune), but the establishment is too content with its own power, even if that power is subservient to that of the Dems.
Elect someone like Palin or Daniels and perhaps we can return this party to its former greatness.

Palin is a real person. Honest, forthright and not a politician in the normal sense.
Her cred as a go-getter, mother, and her moxie to go after the establishment has won my heart.
I cannot remember a person that gives me the faith that it can all be turned around.

Love Sarah.
Who feels any loyalty toward the GOP any more? They can’t figure out where they stand on abortion, fiscal policy, immigration, or gay marriage. No moral compass.
The DNC, on the other hand, is essentially unified around its values: abortion, big gov’t, unions, socialism lite, European wannabe-ism, anti-Americanism, Chamberlainesque naivete about Islam, etc.
jazz_piano on June 9, 2009 at 6:28 PM
A couple of things: it’s worth noting that she came in with Fred Malek, a noted GOP contributor. I also suspect that she’s going to start stumping for Congresscritters. You’ll start seeing her campaign in the off-cycle elections against Obama’s spending, and you’ll see a less partisan Palin now that she doesn’t have to be McCain’s attack dog.
A lot of this snark has been coming from Beltway types who realize that their candidates, people like Mittens, couldn’t draw flies. Yes, Newt gave a substantive policy speech, but nobody will vote for the guy for President. Nobody. Hitler could beat Newt Gingrich in a contest for Mayor of Tel Aviv. He’s that bad a national candidate.
Palin is about to wrap up a deal between Exxon and TransCanada. Once that happens, I suspect a lot of the Pioneer money that went to Bush will go her way.
victor82 on June 9, 2009 at 6:29 PM
*sigh* Good point. We’ll have to figure out a way to boil our slogans down to the simplest, shortest words possible to fit on our government-mandated Obamamobiles and appeal to the moronic, brainwashed masses. Words like “Hope” or “Change.” Wait, those are already taken…
Back to the drawing board, I guess.

One problem, Allah.
The whole thing about Obama being supported by “little” donations? Sham. He got far more from big donors.
Read the proof online somewhere, maybe at hotair.com ?
Exit question: If Obamas’ support didn’t come from small donors, does that mean Palin’s dismissal of the DC elite more or less foolish?

I’m sorry, but that was comment serious? Were you actually serious? You’ve got to be kidding. I know for the sake of partisanship Republicans like to pay Lieberman compliments for bucking the Democratic Party on Iraq and supporting McCain, but seriously. A “truly great political leader”?
Get real. I might enjoy the fact that Specter jumped ship from the GOP and joined the Dems, and I might agree with him on most issues, but I’m not going to sit here and try to seriously claim that he is a “great political leader”. There’s a laugh.

Elitists. Don’t you know? Only college professors hate Sarah Palin.
This is what I find funny. You blindly accuse liberals of claiming that any and all criticism of Obama is “racist”, and then turn around and accuse any and all critics of Palin of being “elitists”. Grow up, really.
Seriously, one of these days conservatives are going to have to figure out how to defend Palin other than simply accusing everyone who refuses to vote for her of being a Black Studies professor at Yale.

Newt has great ideas. however I do not trust him to do what he says he will do. He had his chance to be president in 1994 with his contract for America. If he would have followed what he ran on instead of going partisian on Clinton he would have won in 1996 or 2000. He could have run last year but he was too chiccken (i.e. to political) to throw caution to the wind. He sat on the edege of the pool and dangled his toe in for months. I will bet you that most of those people who turned out to see Palin in Seneca Falls and Auburn didn’t vote for Lazio back in 2K. Lazio did reasonably well upstate, but Hillary’s celebrity undid the young lad. Later, she built the foundation of a Lifetime Senate seat by building support in Upstate New York with oodles of pork.

Upstater85 on June 9, 2009 at 6:44 PM
Oh please, 3 years is forever in politics. You have no idea what the conditions on the ground will be in 2012. The Dems have the advantage in that they control just about everything now. That is also why they’re vulnerability. You see, people who post on political blogs rarely realize this, but most people are not hung up on parties and personalities. They vote for what works and against what doesn’t work.
The Republicans got tabbed for the economy in 2008 but in 2012 that issue will be laid at the feet of the Dems.
If in 2012 Obama’s economic plan is seen to be a disaster then the candidate who will rise to the top will be the one perceived as an outsider. Palin will admirably positioned in that respect.
As Lincoln said: “Only events can make a President”. It was true in the Spring of 1860 and it’s just as true now. You’d be wise to remember that.

another Fantasy of the MSM. The Black population thanks to abortion is getting smaller. It is about 10% of the population. the Hispanic population is growing but it is still only about 12-15% . About 5% for Asians and other non-whites. that leaves 70% of America a White Euorpean Western civilization nation. the MSM wants to push multiculturism but I think Obama will give rise to a more racist nation not less. Obama and his policies are overt racist to whites. It will not take long before the white population is faced with to close ranks inorder to protect themselves. Until Obmama I never thought about race. Now it seems like the MSM wants to put it front and center in every story. Just like the Fed easing is having the opposite effect the MSM trying to make race a nonissue will propel it to the forfront. IMO

But an enormous number of Whites, especially younger ones, are into multiculturalism, making history, etc. I’ll admit to wanting to see the nation elect its first female president, Black president, etc., based on the candidates’ merit and values.
Whites are into identity politics, too, maybe more than Blacks (most of whom would never vote for a Black Republican running against a White Democrat).

true but until Obama those policies where done by mostly whites to whites. No its a black person doing it to whites. For many that changes things in there minds. Why i have no idea but it does. Just like blacks would scream bloody murder if whites were the ones pushing th abortion clinics in their neighborshoods but since the majority black leaders are pro abortion they do not have a problem with it.
human nature is hard to understand. It always has been and always will be

Wasn’t referring to them. Conservatives claim that basically any liberal, moderate or voter who doesn’t like Palin at this point is simply being an “elitist”, because we supposedly don’t like her because she rides snowmobiles and hunts moose, as opposed to the reason that she never traveled outside of the United States prior to her presidential run, she couldn’t name five countries in Africa to save her life and didn’t know what NAFTA was.

No, I think you’re right that identity issues can’t be ignored at all anymore. I do think an outstanding older white guy could still sweep us off our collective feet, but he would have a much steeper hill to climb now than a few years ago. A less-qualified less-white guy with “swagga” would get lots more positive media attention and a freer ride than a guy like Newt these days, and I think that’s undeniably obvious at this point. Perhaps that will change if the first black president is perceived to have ruined the American economic engine beyond repair in less than a year, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Palin DOES need to develop a fundraising and volunteer network. If she plays her cards right, lots of folks will see her as the next Reagan, committed to restoring low taxes and free, if regulated, markets (no one is arguing for a return to unregulated markets, not even Palin).
I suspect her hookup with Fred Malek is the first step in that process.

Experience doing what? Running a state with less than 500k people in it, and spending half that time on the campaign trail? There’s more people in my home county in NJ than in all of Alaska. She’s one of the most ignorant politicians in the U.S. today.

I agree but IMO and history shows that only lasts until those policies start impacting your race to a negative degree. Once those whites that have embraced multiculturism find it more benificial to become connected to their race than to the idea of not being a racist that pardigam changes quickly.
look at the black population it was fashionable after the civil war for blacks to try to fit into society. to become more Americian but as Jim Crows laws and other policies forced the blacks to become connected to their race for political survival it become very unfashionable to intergrate into society (uncle Tom’s House slave etc where used to great effect on the black population.

It isn’t working for them these days is it??? Who is control of the house and senate???
Yes Sarah, distance yourself from those hacks, we, the people, are fed up with them, they are NOT speaking for us.

Look, one could argue that identity politics is natural for a human to embrace – be it right or wrong.
Your example though is flawed. Any black Republican is equated with Clarence Thomas (Uncle Tom). They are somehow a sell-out. Further the powerful blacks in the community will NOT support them and they will use their version of identity politics to smear his/her name.

when you have to balance an $11 billion budget come talk about ignorant. Obama still thinks $100MILLION is big money….lol

I’ve never made that claim. I assume that most of the animosity directed toward her is due to her values. The Left would love a snowmobile-riding, moose-hunting Democrat, I’d suppose.

Instead we got a VP who thinks FDR was on television in 1929, believes J-O-B-S is a three letter word, asks wheel-chair bound people to stand up, won’t take a train for fear of the swine flu, etc, etc.
Yeah, we really dodged a bullet there!
